Borrowing a Mississippi custom, the winner of tonight's game gets a handsome egg trophy. (AP photo)
By now, you’ve heard that some workers at Hartsfield-Jackson greeted the arrival of the New Orleans Saints by pelting a team bus with eggs. What the humorless Saints apparently failed to grasp was that the throwing of eggs is an Atlanta welcoming tradition. Like draping a lei around an arriving tourist is in Hawaii. Or like tossing beads is during Mardi Gras.
Wait a second. Scratch that last one.
As if this rivalry of Big Ben Right and Drew Brees rubbing it in needed more fuel, the egg toss surely supplied it. These teams, as you know, despise one another. The Falcons hate the Saints because the Saints keep beating them and laughing about it. The Saints hate the Falcons because the Falcons never seem to get the yolk … er, joke. (And also because of Roddy White. Don’t forget Roddy White.)
Cold numbers in a heated series: The Saints have won 11 of the past 13 games against the Falcons and seven of nine since the advent of Dimitroff/Smith/Ryan. Yes, it’s getting old. Yes, it’s time for the Falcons to beat this team, which on the record isn’t all that good. Yes, I believe it will happen tonight.
And with that, the figurative floor is again open. I’ll be here to watch, comment and toss out the ceremonial first egg. I invite you to join me, and I promise to do my best to see that all of y’all have an eggcellent time.

Ryan goes back to pass and is lucky to find a guy 5 yards down field before he is under pressure. Brees stands for about 3-4 secs before any pressure for the Falcons.

Exactly seymour. Media is 100% spot on on this team. Beat up on bad teams. Then looks like garbage against good ones.

Falcons secondary is awful. Either faked out and not there, or unwilling to tackle. Trying to body bum or strip the ball. Go shopping in the off season; start from scratch.

Falcons are just not a very talented team, which is why they are not respected or feared. No credible sports person thinks the Falcons will be a factor. Home field is irrelevant when you are a bad team.

Remember: the Saints are a desperate team. This is their last gasp if they lose… you have to expect their offense to do this to some degree. But their defense? It’s like 12 ways of awful and yet the Falcons O is making them look like world-beaters.

Have we even run a play action pass? Especially when we were running so effective.

Ya know what? I can’t put the blame on this defense. They have held the Saints to only 10 points. This one is on the offense. They have done nothing. If they really want respect, you have to take it. Barely beating teams gets you no respect. Regular season resepct is what the Falcons get. None in the playoffs.

Good teams would have put them away. Not the falcons. They let them back in with sloppy covering. Same old falcons. Now here comes a vintage ryan pic and the saints take the lead.

17-13 and with better time management the Saints could be up 21-17 right now as we speak. Maybe more if Lance Moore doesn’t drop that TD pass. Falcons offense has got to step up on this drive.

When will the OLine give Ryan time to throw? Saints getting pressure rushing 4. Sometimes 5. Just too bad the line can’t pass protect. Even worse is the pressure comes right up the middle, so Ryan can’t step up to avoid it.

Something is missing with our offense. When you have weapons like we do, this many games shouldn’t be a struggle. Koetter was a weird hire, but I wonder if Ryan just isn’t good enough to unlock this offense’s full potential. Can you imagine what Brees or Rodgers would do with Roddy, Julio and Tony?
