On Aaron Murray, the TO binge and those scoring Ogletrees

This post is an adjunct to the Georgia-Ole Miss game column, which can be found here.

1. Aaron Murray is pretty darn good. He was sacked five times in the first half, twice off play-action fakes. (Generally speaking, play-action should buy an extra second.) He wound up completing 21 of 28 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns. The second touchdown came three seconds before the half after Murray pumped left, ducked right and threw long to Tavarres King. The third was a deep throw to Malcolm Mitchell down the right sideline for the touchdown that put Georgia ahead 21-10. Murray completed 13 of 15 second-half passes, with no sacks. Update: Murray now ranks sixth nationally in passing efficiency.

2. Five plays, four turnovers: Has there ever been a wilder sequence? For posterity’s sake, we recap the dizzying minute midway through the second quarter. Georgia’s Keith Marshall fumbled, recovered by Ole Miss. The Rebels’ Vince Sanders fumbled after catching a pass, recovery by Damian Swann. Todd Gurley rushed for five yards. (No turnover here.) Gurley carried again and fumbled, recovered by the Rebels. Bo Wallace threw long, the pass being intercepted by Alec Ogletree. Five plays, four TOs. Holy Toledo.

3. Zander Ogletree outscored his twin brother Alec 6-2. A fullback, Zander scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 8-yard burst in the third quarter. Eight minutes later, linebacker Alec would dump Ole Miss running back Jeff Scott for a safety. (Safeties are technically scored by teams, not individuals, but who cares?) Said Alec: “I’m sure he’ll try to joke on me.” Said Zander, whose given name is Alexander, speaking of familial bragging rights: “I’m the older brother (albeit by minutes) — it felt great.” Georgia publicists believed this to be the first time siblings had scored, even unofficially, in a Georgia football game. Basketball would be another matter: Think of Jarvis and Jonas Hayes, not to mention Coco and Kelly Miller.

Not expecting a loss Saturday, but I’m not feeling real confident about our prospects against Auburn. Would sure like to see a strong showing. Losing Brown should force Bobo to have to utilize the tight ends and backs more.

Terrific punt by Bosher. Remember when everyone hated him, too?

@Mobile Dawg, your 2nd team could beat Auburn. They’ve mailed it in for 2012.

Hard to believe how far they’ve dropped..

I can’t believe people are STILL taking cheap shots at Murray. What more does the guy have to do to gain respect? We won, and he had an outstanding game.

You want fries with that?

At best, Murray may have a short career in arena football, but with his very limited skills and low IQ, it’s more likely we’ll be seeing him at a fast food drive-through.

Yes, son, you can supersize that order!

murray is better than mccarron—in the SEC title game, murray will light up the alabama secondary for big yards—book it. Dogs pull the upset!

Go back and read my post. I agree with you on the scheduling aspect as far as what I would prefer… Just for different reasons than you and I disagree that the people making the decisions are making them out of fear. I mean, that could be the case, but the point is you don’t know that for sure. Your just guessing. It’s easy to throw caution to the wind and make hasty scheduling decisions in the name of bravery. AD’s that do that don’t keep their jobs very long. Although I wish for a tougher schedule, I trust those making the decisions.
