On Aaron Murray, the TO binge and those scoring Ogletrees

This post is an adjunct to the Georgia-Ole Miss game column, which can be found here.

1. Aaron Murray is pretty darn good. He was sacked five times in the first half, twice off play-action fakes. (Generally speaking, play-action should buy an extra second.) He wound up completing 21 of 28 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns. The second touchdown came three seconds before the half after Murray pumped left, ducked right and threw long to Tavarres King. The third was a deep throw to Malcolm Mitchell down the right sideline for the touchdown that put Georgia ahead 21-10. Murray completed 13 of 15 second-half passes, with no sacks. Update: Murray now ranks sixth nationally in passing efficiency.

2. Five plays, four turnovers: Has there ever been a wilder sequence? For posterity’s sake, we recap the dizzying minute midway through the second quarter. Georgia’s Keith Marshall fumbled, recovered by Ole Miss. The Rebels’ Vince Sanders fumbled after catching a pass, recovery by Damian Swann. Todd Gurley rushed for five yards. (No turnover here.) Gurley carried again and fumbled, recovered by the Rebels. Bo Wallace threw long, the pass being intercepted by Alec Ogletree. Five plays, four TOs. Holy Toledo.

3. Zander Ogletree outscored his twin brother Alec 6-2. A fullback, Zander scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 8-yard burst in the third quarter. Eight minutes later, linebacker Alec would dump Ole Miss running back Jeff Scott for a safety. (Safeties are technically scored by teams, not individuals, but who cares?) Said Alec: “I’m sure he’ll try to joke on me.” Said Zander, whose given name is Alexander, speaking of familial bragging rights: “I’m the older brother (albeit by minutes) — it felt great.” Georgia publicists believed this to be the first time siblings had scored, even unofficially, in a Georgia football game. Basketball would be another matter: Think of Jarvis and Jonas Hayes, not to mention Coco and Kelly Miller.

I don’t think there is any question as to Murray being a good QB. The questions always arise when he plays with his head squarely up his tail. Mush like the did the first half of the FL and much of the first half yesterday. It would be nice to see the Dawgs come out and hit on all cylinders for once. Murray has a large play in that happening

The Brothers Ogletree were both beasts yesterday. Congrats to them both. Tree was all over the field making a difference. Along with Zander’s TD he was a blocking fool

Certainly not overlooking Auburn, but maybe if the Dawgs make it to the SECCG, Murray will have his deamons exercised enough to perform at a high level against Bama. We need him, and the train wreck that is our kicking, game to show up.

Good game for UGA player and coaches. I hope they have finally found what it takes to play to their potential. That being said, there are no excuses for games like SC and Kentucky.

Yeah he is special! Who didn’t know that… Your best coach is on the offensive side of the ball.(Bobo) Yet there are still clowns that want him fired… The clown you should fire is on the defensive side. (TG) But I guess it’s fun being a Dawg these days… I mean you could be a Jacket fan…:)

Game Changer, need a hug? Murray is average? He has more TD passes than anyone who has every played at UGA. He is #6 in the country in passing efficiency. His team is #6 in the country. Yea, real average. What a moron.

and then there was John…. I know John it’s hard to understand what I said…. Hmmmmm, Aaron Murray is a GREAT athlete and QB. Coach Bobo played a very important role in coaching Aaron. On the other hand you have TG who has the finest talent in the state or southeast and continues to coach them down… I wonder what part of those opinions you don’t understand…. But hey, for somebody who has probably NEVER worn a jock, it would be hard to comprehend… Good luck anyway…

It’s hard to have your head in the right location when you’re sacked 5 times in a half. He didn’t make mistakes as a result of the pressure and that tells me his head was in the right place for the whole game.

Les Miles made some major errors last night and those cost his team. UGA vs Bama will be a war no doubt. I still can’t believe Bama was able to recover and win last night. The week off showed LSU was much quicker than Bama and they were ready. The beatdown from the NC game was a huge factor and you could tell that had a mad! Roll Tide.

Murray is better than average but that is about it. The only way he gets into an NFL game is if he buys a ticket.

Good Luck to you for all except one… :)

23 for 55 260 total yards and 4 interceptions

Nope. Here is your dilemma UGA/SEC fans. If UGA wins the SEC championship then the SEC title run ends. If they lose the SEC championship then Alabama has a chance to carry on the crown. What are you rooting for?

I wouldn’t say bad, but if you can’t perform well against good teams then you don’t have much of an argument for being good. Maybe slightly above average.

Reasons auburn game worries me
-Our Dawgs haven’t played a full 60 minutes game yet!
-Our o-line is inconsistent…we have allowed alot of tough hits on murray.
- 5 turnovers in the last two games….please gurley and marshall hold onto the ball
- injuries to marlon brown and bennett….I still dream of the lineup of bennett….brown…king and micthell who should have been playing WR the whole year…..If we had that lineup….Right now we would have the most explosive offense in the nation….anybody disagree? Damn ol lady luck has not been with us when it comes to injuries at key positions!!
- game is at auburn
- we still don’t have a FG kicker
- Can the defense do it for third time in a row

Murray is much more of an NFL QB than Tajh Boyd or the VT QB Thomas. Those guys wilt under pressure in big games, and find it hard to spot secondary receivers. Murray may have a ball sail on him every now and then, but all the first quarter failures shouldn’t be blamed on Murray. Kentucky was stuffing the running game, and early on the Ole Miss line wasn’t being blocked.

“Hey, even Mettenberg played a good game, against the #1 defense and team in the nation..”

Mettenberger is a sex offender, which I’m sure doesn’t bother people like you, but UGA doesn’t let criminals lead their teams, unlike LSU, Auburn, etc.
