Live from UGA: Will we see a Cocktail Party hangover?

Athens – Let’s stipulate that Georgia cannot possibly be as energized for this week’s game as it was seven days ago. Let’s also stipulate that Georgia has more talent than Ole Miss and is playing at home. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rebels took an early lead and held it awhile. It would, however, be positively stunning if Ole Miss led after four quarters.
It’s also worth noting that Florida, which lost to Georgia, trailed Missouri 7-0 at the half in Gainesville today. (Hey, wasn’t it just yesterday than even some Georgia fans considered Florida too good to lose?) But the Gators have since forged ahead 14-7. Which doesn’t mean they’ll hang on and win. It does, however, underscore the peril inherent in post-big-game blahs.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but motivation — especially the motivation of 20-year-old amateurs — is an ephemeral thing. The Bulldogs have had a week of being slapped on the back. (Surely some of those backslappers harbored private doubts pre-Jax.) It would be human nature to follow an impassioned performance with a lesser one. That said …
The longer games go, the less passion matters. Contrary to popular belief, games tend to be won by the team that plays better, as opposed to harder. Again we note that Georgia has better players, which leads us to predict: Georgia 31, Ole Miss 20.
But you know me. I’ve been wrong a time or two. I’ll be here to watch and report, and I’d appreciate your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

I don’t know why everyone thinks Ole Miss is going to give UGA a scare. I just don’t think so. UGA has got their mojo back on defense and Murray will improve on offense and we’ll win this game. We have a goal in mind and we won’t stop now to get it.

@ No means NO, teams always say that when they turn the ball over and lose the game. “We gave the game away” is a favorite of theirs. Fact is, they hadn’t turned the ball over but 4 times heading into the game vs. UGA and turned the ball over 6 times against Georgia. What does that tell you? We took that game and didn’t give it back. Domination!

We got to get our plays in quicker on defense. we are not getting set on most plays. We better get our head out of our butt bc ole miss came here to win and nothing else. I know a position coach for ole miss and he said they feel like they can get this win. Freeze was a great hire. When i heard that pregame speech i was ready to play. Ole Miss is not intimidated by us one bit. Just watch Florida half arse through a game with mizzou due to fatigue and let down from that big game last weekend. we can not afford to go thru this game half awake. This is a very hungry and young team we are playing and i am telling you dawgs this team really feels like they can get out of athens with the W. Our routes are taking to long to develop which sucks bc on the three sacks they have sent at least two second and third level defenders which means we are getting one on ones and some open guys. They are thinking murray cant make a fast decision which is correct so far. Put Marshall in there and screen their butts off and it will end this crap

On the snap of the ball ogletree was walking backward with his legs crossed( the rt leg was crossed behind the left leg which tells me he is not fully focused at all) that is horrible fundamentals and that is why i think Grantham is the biggest disappointment on this coaching staff. Last week we were sending guys from everywhere and had basic cover principles which grantham hates to do bc he wants exotic and complicated cover responsiblities.

Grantham is the biggest disappointment on this staff. i want you to know he is not calling or running the same defense as last week. We blow way to many coverages he has got to lay off the cover packages i feel like there is to many bc you always see our second and third level defenders questioning each other like do you got it or me and neither one of them knows. He has them thinking instead of just playing. Last week we blitzed which is so easy bc you just go get it and your cover responsibilities are more basic. When he runs a base we almost always have two or three defenders covering the same zone and our linebackers get caught in the wash on running plays. Got to coach fundamentals better if your gonna run all those base packages.

WOW! Murray takes two sacks, lets all the time run off the clock and then throws a beautiful pass for a touchdown for the lead as time expires. What a wild ride! The pass on the first touchdown was beautiful touch. He threw it with touch and let the wide open receiver run under it. When he’s on, he’s on and when he’s off, he’s terrible. I guess that’s all you can say. I hope he’s on more than he’s off in the second half.

Please dont feed us that crap. UGA has no chance vs Bama. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nunca. The Alabama football team is light years better than UGA. They have a strong coach who doesnt take any BS. Alabama is ready to play vs any opponent (no matter their strength). Alabama comes out and steps on the throats of good and bad teams alike. That football program is one that I, as a UGA fan, envy.
While I normally keep some hope for every game, beating Alabama is a lost cause for the Dawgs this year. It aint happenin no matter how much we want it too.

Ole Miss is a pesky team and just will not go away and just play the part. Just shows what coaching can do with average talent at best. This bunch gave Alabama all we wanted and made us all stay up late as well. UGA doesn’t have on their gameface and it’s hard to just turn it own when needed. You saw today that the Gators weren’t in sync either due to last week.The best matchup for UGA is LSU in the Dome and not Alabama. I got a bad feeling tonight will be an out of sync game for Bama and LSU will get enough breaks to win. Hope I just have gas. With the way A&M is playing we could see Bama lose 2 in a row. Expect the unexpected.

Marshall appears to be a more reliable blocker than Gurley IMO. Seems like a couple of those early sacks were at least partly due to Gurley. Gurley is a much better runner at this point, tho, again, IMO.

Branden Smith can be a little frustrating. On the previous play, he was looking around after the ball had been snapped. Then, on the safety, he’s flying to the ball and making a big play with Ogletree. I think his potential gets overshadowed by his tendency to take plays off here and there.

WE got the talent to hang with anyone dont know about all the coaching but we will see once we get confidence then who knows what will happen in atlanta or who we will play. Bama is gonna have their hands full tonight i think bama is more talented and better coached but LSU has centered their entire offseason strength and conditioning program around losing to Bama in the Sugardome. LSU wants revenge and that is why i think they are going to be a very tough out for bama tonight. I am telling you but the one things is LSU is one dimensional unless they fixed that over the off week. Bama will stack the tackle box and they are talented enough to go one on one against LSU’s underperforming recievers. What is all four teams lose tonight. Our line is just so lacking of a push. The pass block ok, and they do pretty good when we can trap, but we rarely get any push. So why do we run a 180lb Qb behind a line that gets little to no push. And this Ole Miss line is tiny.

I was born 4 years after you bought your season tickets, so I missed Dooley. Richt is the only UGA coach that I have had the pleasure of watching.
With that said, I understand where you are coming from. We need to take the starters out at some point. But my problem is not with the personell on the field at the end of the games, its with the play calling at the end of the games. Why go ultra conservative? Why not try to score every drive, regardless of whos on the field and what the score is?

Because trying to score generally involves throwing, and throwing carries some risk. You stop the clock with an incompletion, and an interception or sack/fumble gives the opponent life. Right now, Ole Miss has no reason to think it can win this game. But a gift touchdown off a turnover could change that.

Even if they beat Bama…they won’t play for it.
The way this team has looked in winning and losing, and given their weak schedule,
it is very doubtful they would get in the game.
It would take a total collapse by all the teams above them.
Seems like UGA had a chance to play in the big game a few years ago. They were higher in the rankings and LSU moved several spots up to pass them.

See the TD drive against #2 FL. Rarely does someone throw for 300+ against a legit top 10 defense. That is why they are legit top 10.
Murray played well against FL in the 2nd half. He had 2 15+ yard passes dropped. But I remember 1 pass that wasn’t dropped by Mitchell.
Murry doesn’t play behind a line as good as Alabama’s.

@Swami Sez – Auburn might be competitive in the lower-half of the Sun Belt Conference this year. Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech have better shots of beating Georgia than they do. Georgia will win the SEC East and probably play in the Capital One Bowl or Outback Bowl, unless one of my two teams pulls a shocker.
