Live from UGA: Will we see a Cocktail Party hangover?

Coming down won't be easy. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)

Athens – Let’s stipulate that Georgia cannot possibly be as energized for this week’s game as it was seven days ago. Let’s also stipulate that Georgia has more talent than Ole Miss and is playing at home. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rebels took an early lead and held it awhile. It would, however, be positively stunning if Ole Miss led after four quarters.

It’s also worth noting that Florida, which lost to Georgia, trailed Missouri 7-0 at the half in Gainesville today. (Hey, wasn’t it just yesterday than even some Georgia fans considered Florida too good to lose?) But the Gators have since forged ahead 14-7. Which doesn’t mean they’ll hang on and win. It does, however, underscore the peril inherent in post-big-game blahs.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but motivation — especially the motivation of 20-year-old amateurs — is an ephemeral thing. The Bulldogs have had a week of being slapped on the back. (Surely some of those backslappers harbored private doubts pre-Jax.) It would be human nature to follow an impassioned performance with a lesser one. That said …

The longer games go, the less passion matters. Contrary to popular belief, games tend to be won by the team that plays better, as opposed to harder. Again we note that Georgia has better players, which leads us to predict: Georgia 31, Ole Miss 20.

But you know me. I’ve been wrong a time or two. I’ll be here to watch and report, and I’d appreciate your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

Not really much of a prediction to say Georgia will suck for at least half a ball game.

Looks like the Atlanta Braves are on the field masquerading as the DAWGS. Must be a GEORGIA “thang” to beat the good teams and lose to the “patsies”, or lose the games you should not and win the tough games. This is a common occurrence!

Nauseating. Between the offensive line (a dud), the “kicker,” and the repeated defensive secondary gaffes, this team just sucks.

clown on TV blaming the GA linebacker. Rambo blew that play, he was withing 5 yards of 2 other UGA defenders. What a joke

Watch BOBO start throwing more. Playing right into OM hands.

How do the dwag players feel when they’re playing against a team of scholar-athletes like Ole Miss, knowing that the Ole Miss players can read and write at college level, while the dwag players struggle through remedial reading?

I guess they feel embarrassed and humiliated, but it won’t matter after Richt discards them when their eligibility is up, and they begin their careers in custodial services, or pushing shopping carts around.

I wish grantham would let those guys just play. blitzing is so easy playing base and running some of the coverages he is doing is harder and takes better fundamentals.

@hotty toddy I agree about the no morals. I was rooting for this team until I had a run in with one of there “stars”. One thing I learned never tell them they are not entitled and they should get everything because they play for Georgia. But I’m sure they will straighten up in the second half.

@dawgnation1– Like I said I’m hoping ‘Dawgs win so we can have an exciting Auburn game next week where you Jawja fans will have all your hopes dashed as penance for the unholy luck they had against the Gators. But maybe they don’t have enough luck to last against Ole Miss today…
