Live from UGA: Will we see a Cocktail Party hangover?

It won't be easy coming down from this. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)

Coming down won't be easy. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)

Athens – Let’s stipulate that Georgia cannot possibly be as energized for this week’s game as it was seven days ago. Let’s also stipulate that Georgia has more talent than Ole Miss and is playing at home. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rebels took an early lead and held it awhile. It would, however, be positively stunning if Ole Miss led after four quarters.

It’s also worth noting that Florida, which lost to Georgia, trailed Missouri 7-0 at the half in Gainesville today. (Hey, wasn’t it just yesterday than even some Georgia fans considered Florida too good to lose?) But the Gators have since forged ahead 14-7. Which doesn’t mean they’ll hang on and win. It does, however, underscore the peril inherent in post-big-game blahs.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but motivation — especially the motivation of 20-year-old amateurs — is an ephemeral thing. The Bulldogs have had a week of being slapped on the back. (Surely some of those backslappers harbored private doubts pre-Jax.) It would be human nature to follow an impassioned performance with a lesser one. That said …

The longer games go, the less passion matters. Contrary to popular belief, games tend to be won by the team that plays better, as opposed to harder. Again we note that Georgia has better players, which leads us to predict: Georgia 31, Ole Miss 20.

But you know me. I’ve been wrong a time or two. I’ll be here to watch and report, and I’d appreciate your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

@dawgnation like I said I’m pulling for UGA but not expecting much since they rely on luck. I want to see them go down against Auburn in a spectacular blaze of fail after getting Jawja fans hopes up.

Although I believe I did sort of predict that Ole Miss would claim an early lead. Sort of.

Rambo was beat on 3 of those plays on a 5 play drive. He took a dive and avoided contact on the first play and got torched on 2 others. Too many brownies.

Great, Ole Miss is paying the refs, our place kicker is a spy planted by Ga Tech, and Rambo is playing like he’s _ _ _ _.

Offense needs to wake up here — if they’re not gonna score at least prevent a turnover. Momentum in this game is going 100% to Ole Miss.

Guess this team ran out of gimmicks to get themselves up for this week. Pitiful. UGA needed to make a statement today. Unfortunately that statement starts with a capital S.

Where's the rushing offense?

November 3rd, 2012

Rambo has not been the same player this year. I guess that discipline to start the year must have taken him out of his game???

Even if we do end up going to Atlanta Bama would be up on us 21-0 right now if the offense played like this. You can keep going three and out and leave your defense on the field the whole first half

On the snap of the ball ogletree was walking backward with his legs crossed( the rt leg was crossed behind the left leg which tells me he is not fully focused at all) that is horrible fundamentals and that is why i think Grantham is the biggest disappointment on this coaching staff. Last week we were sending guys from everywhere and had basic cover principles which grantham hates to do bc he wants exotic and complicated cover responsiblities.
