Live from UGA: Will we see a Cocktail Party hangover?

Coming down won't be easy. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)

Athens – Let’s stipulate that Georgia cannot possibly be as energized for this week’s game as it was seven days ago. Let’s also stipulate that Georgia has more talent than Ole Miss and is playing at home. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rebels took an early lead and held it awhile. It would, however, be positively stunning if Ole Miss led after four quarters.

It’s also worth noting that Florida, which lost to Georgia, trailed Missouri 7-0 at the half in Gainesville today. (Hey, wasn’t it just yesterday than even some Georgia fans considered Florida too good to lose?) But the Gators have since forged ahead 14-7. Which doesn’t mean they’ll hang on and win. It does, however, underscore the peril inherent in post-big-game blahs.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but motivation — especially the motivation of 20-year-old amateurs — is an ephemeral thing. The Bulldogs have had a week of being slapped on the back. (Surely some of those backslappers harbored private doubts pre-Jax.) It would be human nature to follow an impassioned performance with a lesser one. That said …

The longer games go, the less passion matters. Contrary to popular belief, games tend to be won by the team that plays better, as opposed to harder. Again we note that Georgia has better players, which leads us to predict: Georgia 31, Ole Miss 20.

But you know me. I’ve been wrong a time or two. I’ll be here to watch and report, and I’d appreciate your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

Don’t start the negative spew just yet. Let it play out a little before you go postal. We got 4 quarters to play and Dawgs never start fast…

Theus is such a liability. If we make it to Atlanta, Nick saban will be drooling because of our right tackle. That was his miss on the 3rd down sack.

I don’t trust Murray. Whenever title hopes are on the line, or there’s a big game, he chokes. He just isn’t built to win the big games. He gets nervous, he presses and it causes us to lose. Huston Mason would be so much better IMO.

BOBO NEEDS TO BE SELLING SHOES.

Your offensive line averages 30 more than their D line, your first play from scrimmage is a run which is an easy jaunt for 12 yards. WHAT DOES BOOBOO DO? He goes to the pass. IDIOT.

Georgia always plays to the level of their opponent. We may win today, but it’s gonna be a scary ride.

Did I just watch Theus block his own teammate? Tired of seeing guys looking confused on the field. At what point do we stop looking at coaching and start looking at execution…jeez, do we really need to coach guys not to block their own teammates?

Dawgs couldn’t manage one 3rd down conversion against FL, and people actually think UGA is better than FL? Ha. They got lucky, and their luck’s about to run out in about 2 hours… LOL. I don’t think they’ll get a lucky fumble in the endzone this time to avoid OT like they were handed against the (superior) Gators

Wallace is going to throw at least 3 INTs today…our defense may outscore our offense.

Defense will settle down. Murray just needs to get the offense going. Defense will do its job.

We got to get our plays in quicker on defense. we are not getting set on most plays. We better get our head out of our butt bc ole miss came here to win and nothing else. I know a position coach for ole miss and he said they feel like they can get this win. Freeze was a great hire. When i heard that pregame speech i was ready to play. Ole Miss is not intimidated by us one bit. Just watch Florida half arse through a game with mizzou due to fatigue and let down from that big game last weekend. we can not afford to go thru this game half awake. This is a very hungry and young team we are playing and i am telling you dawgs this team really feels like they can get out of athens with the W. We just need a big play and i think we smoke that arse.

Schadenfreude– UGA hasn’t been beating any decent teams all season long (see USC and the rest of their schedule) and one lucky win against FL is hardly a sign that they have a shot at the SEC title. Praise gawd, cuz Dawgs will need some serious divine intervention if you think UGA can avoid another L this season

O-line is big for no reason. Once again we have to rely on our defense to keep us in the game. Worst O-line in the SEC.

i picked pitt and oke state to give both their opponents a heck of a game and at least one will win but i think both win. We will not have more than two undefeated teams at the end of the yr might not have one.
