Coming down won't be easy. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)
Athens – Let’s stipulate that Georgia cannot possibly be as energized for this week’s game as it was seven days ago. Let’s also stipulate that Georgia has more talent than Ole Miss and is playing at home. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rebels took an early lead and held it awhile. It would, however, be positively stunning if Ole Miss led after four quarters.
It’s also worth noting that Florida, which lost to Georgia, trailed Missouri 7-0 at the half in Gainesville today. (Hey, wasn’t it just yesterday than even some Georgia fans considered Florida too good to lose?) But the Gators have since forged ahead 14-7. Which doesn’t mean they’ll hang on and win. It does, however, underscore the peril inherent in post-big-game blahs.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but motivation — especially the motivation of 20-year-old amateurs — is an ephemeral thing. The Bulldogs have had a week of being slapped on the back. (Surely some of those backslappers harbored private doubts pre-Jax.) It would be human nature to follow an impassioned performance with a lesser one. That said …
The longer games go, the less passion matters. Contrary to popular belief, games tend to be won by the team that plays better, as opposed to harder. Again we note that Georgia has better players, which leads us to predict: Georgia 31, Ole Miss 20.
But you know me. I’ve been wrong a time or two. I’ll be here to watch and report, and I’d appreciate your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

Because trying to score generally involves throwing, and throwing carries some risk. You stop the clock with an incompletion, and an interception or sack/fumble gives the opponent life. Right now, Ole Miss has no reason to think it can win this game. But a gift touchdown off a turnover could change that.

And Georgia does not have to win this game by a certain number to impress anyone. If Georgia goes 13-1, it stands a very good chance of playing for the national championship.

IMHO UGA should be ranked below UF after this game since they allowed Ole Miss to score one point more than the Gators did last week. But still even though the ‘Dawgs beat the Gators they’re only one position higher which tells you something right there (*cough* fluke *cough*)

There’s no shame in the score of this game. Remember, Alabama actually had to stop playing around and work on Ole Miss earlier this year. As usual, it’s trying to maintain the intensity and focus for 4 quarters that kills UGA.

Florida-Well since we beat Mizzou worse than yall did it makes you stupid. U cant compare scores and to a conclusion one team is better than the other bc of an outcome of a game one team was not even involved in. Every game has different factors in it

Mark B, if that 13-1 somehow happened and Oregon and K-State went undefeated, I don’t think UGA could make it to #2 but maybe. Certainly things like Florida winning today and winning out would help with the computers. I love BCS chaos so I hope it happens!

It would be interesting to see if a 13-1 SEC champion with a victory over Alabama/LSU could be left out of the BCS tilt. Maybe it could. I doubt it.

@ Mark
Alabama does it now. LSU did it. Florida did it. Auburn did it.
These teams have rings for a reason. They dont play scared. They strike fear into their opponents even before they even play then. People are scared of Bama, because they try to blow through every team them they play. No one is scared of UGA cause every team they play know they have a chance.

Flo Rida,
Florida needed James Franklin to throw his 4th pick, in the endzone in the final seconds, to beat Missouri in Gainesville. Florida should be thankful to not drop in the polls.

Georgia will not play for the MNC.
Even if they beat Bama…they won’t play for it.
The way this team has looked in winning and losing, and given their weak schedule,
it is very doubtful they would get in the game.
It would take a total collapse by all the teams above them.
Seems like UGA had a chance to play in the big game a few years ago. They were higher in the rankings and LSU moved several spots up to pass them.
UGA gets no respect because are so inconsistent.

@dawgs01, wow I wasn’t comparing teams I was comparing rankings. Another braniac ‘Dawgs fan with impeccable logics, I see. The fact that both teams are now 8-1 despite Florida having a MUCH harder schedule alone should give them a higher ranking but the fluke win over the Gators is the only thing keeping them in #6 versus Gators’ #7
And both teams beat Mizzou. Both teams didn’t beat USC, chump.
