Live from UGA: Will we see a Cocktail Party hangover?

Coming down won't be easy. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)

Athens – Let’s stipulate that Georgia cannot possibly be as energized for this week’s game as it was seven days ago. Let’s also stipulate that Georgia has more talent than Ole Miss and is playing at home. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Rebels took an early lead and held it awhile. It would, however, be positively stunning if Ole Miss led after four quarters.

It’s also worth noting that Florida, which lost to Georgia, trailed Missouri 7-0 at the half in Gainesville today. (Hey, wasn’t it just yesterday than even some Georgia fans considered Florida too good to lose?) But the Gators have since forged ahead 14-7. Which doesn’t mean they’ll hang on and win. It does, however, underscore the peril inherent in post-big-game blahs.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but motivation — especially the motivation of 20-year-old amateurs — is an ephemeral thing. The Bulldogs have had a week of being slapped on the back. (Surely some of those backslappers harbored private doubts pre-Jax.) It would be human nature to follow an impassioned performance with a lesser one. That said …

The longer games go, the less passion matters. Contrary to popular belief, games tend to be won by the team that plays better, as opposed to harder. Again we note that Georgia has better players, which leads us to predict: Georgia 31, Ole Miss 20.

But you know me. I’ve been wrong a time or two. I’ll be here to watch and report, and I’d appreciate your company. And I thank you, as ever, in advance.

All week we hear about how OM is undersize and how GA should be able to run the ball. We keep running with 3 receiver sets. I wish we would try going with 2 TE’s and a FB. Ole Miss will get tired.

Ole Miss will be crying “momma” in the 4th if we keep it up.

That was picture perfect by Murray. Anytime you see him step up in the pocket like that and throw with authority, it’s almost always a right-on-the-money throw.

If Murray settles in and gets protection he can pick anyone apart. You just have to wait and see id he settles down.

When murray settles in he is really good. i know most of yall think he is garbage and i dont want to try to defend myself but i think he is really good and i know all yall have already broken yalls universities passing records but if murray stays he will shatter uga’s and i think he will win some more against top teams. i am sure someone will attack me for no reason whatsoever bc we are not face to face. some things i dont understand like going on others blogs and making fun of a team during their entire game and then people who go after people on the blogs.

Bless my grits…….UGA dawgs up by double digits. Should be more but maybe-just maybe–they can make a rout of this if they can minimize the turnovers.

Murray leads the nation in yards and passing efficiency according to the CBS announcers. When he’s on, he’s really, really good.

Really?
http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/collegeQuarterbackRating

Murray is not in the top ten in QB rating. Murray is definintely not leading anything in yards.

He could be that good. Got a long way to go.

Sure, he doesn’t have anything close to a good record against top competition. But it’s never been Aaron Murray v. the 11 defenders. I’ve seen enough dropped passes, fumbles and missed blocking assignments to keep me from placing that blame on him.

“2-2 in the SEC is bottom feeders?! Strange definition of bottom feeders.”

Ole Miss has beaten Auburn and Arky. Both of these teams are in disarray. Yes, Ole Miss is a bottom feeder who has beaten other bottom feeders.

kingdaddy–some of idiots are still here and are thinking the Dawgs should have had this many points long before the half against Ole Miss. But we just hang on hoping the mediocre play by a good team will end up with a ‘W’ at the end of the game.
