Whoa, Nellie. The skies are ominous above Philadelphia and Lincoln Financial Field. (Photo by M. Bradley)
Philadelphia — Nobody in the press box is discussing the game. Which does, you’d have to admit, look like a pretty good one. But the weather has superseded all.
It’s not raining at the moment. It’s cloudy, though, and the wind is picking up. The real heavy stuff from Miss Sandy isn’t scheduled — this assumes hurricanes hew to a schedule — to arrive until late tonight. Tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed to be the really rough days, and by that I mean really rough.
The forecast calls for intermittent rain throughout the day, which I guess is good for the Eagles. They have LeSean McCoy to run the ball against a Falcons defense that has trouble against the run, and the Falcons’ own running game remains mostly a memory.
Then again, Michael Vick does have trouble holding the ball on dry fields, and we shudder to think what might happen on a wet track. But what do I know?
Anyway, I’m happy to report that Team AJC — Mr. Ledbetter and I — are in the stadium, and we’ll endeavor to keep you apprised of all developments, meteorological and otherwise. I’d appreciate if you’d ride along, and I thank you, as ever, in advance.

If the Broncos send the Bounty Boys to 2-5, the division will be pretty much be locked up. The Caints and Panthers are pretty bad, but Tampa looks like a half way decent team. 7-0, sweet!
Go Falcons!

What’s with all the talk about the Falcons letting up?
Legitimate beef sometimes but not today. Did any of you chronically unhappy people actually see the rain falling? Discretion was the better part of valor today.

Phil you live in fantasy land. Who has scored the most points on the Eagles this year? Who is the only team that has ever beaten Andy Reid after a buy? Your argument is weak!

I remember the Falcons 62 – Saints 7 game in 1973, was at the Dallas playoff game in 1981, the infamous Colts game in mid 80’s. Been through a lot of highs and lows with the Birds, and I’m enjoying this season. Go to any team’s blog and you’ll find the cynics. I prefer to live as an optimist. 7-0 with a hope game coming up. 8-0 is within reach.

This weekend has been all about negativity for fans. Saw it on the UGA boards before the game and see it now after a good win. We held The Eagles to 17 points without any turnovers that’s stout. And the pass defense for the Falcons has been pretty good all year. Wasn’t that one of our big weaknesses in the playoffs the last few years?

Phil and St Simons….i get where you’re coming from. Been following them since the mid 70’s. I keep waiting for it to blow up. Winning in Philly was big…but they have to prove themselves in January. And Dallas just worries me. But the franchise is very stable now…..gotta win in Jan.

But your “sit back and wait for failure” attitude is the real “loser mentality”. I have enjoyed laughing at you….

No I just think the Falcons went into Philly and just did what no Falcons team has done since the 80’s. I think the Falcons just did what no team has “EVER” done to Andy Reid. I think the Falcons just did what no Falcons team has ever done (7-0). I think Mike Smith just placed himself alone for Falcons wins. That is something losers like you can’t comprehend, that is WINNING!

Constructive criticism doesn’t ever hurt, but some of the things you say are just dumb. But, God forbid, the day we lose a game, you and your sort will be on here ripping this team from one end to the other. What a joke

You haven’t stated any truth Phil. Your only living in the past this is 2012. I mean if your going to be negative at least be realistically negative. I mean your just like it was like this last year so it’s going to be like that this year. You know I can find negative things to. But I’m going to enjoy this win because it was a great one. I mean the Falcons could be in trouble if Weatherspoon is hurt bad. The running game needs to deliver more. But at the end of the day we are winning so I’m happy. And more importantly at the end of the day I could care less what happens because I’m going to love my team regardless whether they are 16-0 or 0-16. Plus, no matter what any team that I like does it doesn’t really matter to my life. It’s only a game and I don’t make any money on it either way.

Im with St Simon’s. The lack of putting away mediocre teams is frightening. We want them to do better and we hope that they will. But unless a run game develops, we could be one and done in the playoffs and that would be a perfect waste to a great season.
