"Did you know my darn strong football team is 6-1?" (AP photo)
The surest sign that Mark Richt is miffed: He cites numbers. He did it back in 2006, when Georgia was 5-0 but coming off shaky victories over Colorado and Ole Miss. (Those Bulldogs would lose four of their next five games, FYI.) He did it at the end of the 2008 season, which began with Georgia ranked No. 1 but wound down with Richt trying to make 10-3 sound like a major achievement. He did it again Saturday night.
Responding to a question (mine, actually) about the possibility that the halting performance against Kentucky had been a function of focusing more on the Florida-South Carolina score than the opponent at hand, he stopped in mid-answer. “Know what?” he said, his voice rising. “I’m happy with the victory. We’re 6-1. That’s not bad.”
Know what? He’s right. Georgia is 6-1, and 6-1 isn’t at all bad. (It’s good enough for 10th place in the BCS standings.) But now comes Florida, and this game will do more than define the Bulldogs’ season — it will shape the remainder of Mark Richt’s tenure at Georgia.
Richt has been in place since January 2001. He has — here we cite numbers for him — taken Georgia to two conference championships and four SEC title games. He has presided over seven 10-or-more-win seasons and seen his team finish in the Associated Press top 10 five times. Twice the Bulldogs under Richt have come close (in 2002 and 2007) to playing for the BCS title.
That said, his greatest successes came early, and not since 2007 — Richt’s seventh season — have the Bulldogs given their fans reason to believe the long-sought national championship is within reach. Thus have significant achievements come to be taken with a grain of salt. Winning the SEC East in 2011 was nice, but how nice is a season that features losses to the four best teams on the schedule? Being ranked No. 10 in the BCS is not nothing, but 17 days ago the Bulldogs were ranked No. 5 in the land, and not much good has happened since.
The question for Georgia and Richt is no longer about winning mere games; it’s about winning games of consequence, the games this program has ceased to win. South Carolina has become such a game, and the Bulldogs were embarrassed in Columbia on Oct. 6. Florida is another such game, though technically Georgia beat the Gators last season. But now the repellant reptiles are roaring again, and the Bulldogs under Richt still haven’t whipped a first-rate Florida team. (Richt’s three victories in Jacksonville have come against Gators who would finish 7-5, 9-4 and 7-6.)
If Georgia loses Saturday, it won’t repeat as SEC East champs. Given that the Bulldogs were picked to win the division in preseason, that would be a major disappointment. It would make last year’s return to prominence seem an aberration, not the new normal. Even worse, it would fuel the loaded question: If the 2012 Bulldogs, who came equipped with a bunny schedule and a seasoned quarterback and what seemed a mighty defense, couldn’t play for a conference or a national title, what Georgia team will?
Mark Richt is 52, which is considerably younger than Nick Saban or Les Miles, but a 10-2 season that doesn’t yield at least a division title would not play well among the noisier precincts of his constituency. That doesn’t mean Richt would get fired: There’s no way those in power would move to dislodge a coach who’s again winning 10 games a year. Still, the quality of life for Richt’s remaining seasons as Georgia’s coach would surely be lessened. The emphasis wouldn’t be on the many games Georgia has won but on the magnitude of the games it hasn’t. (No victory over a Top 10 team since 2009, et cetera.)
That the Bulldogs looked awful against South Carolina and awfully unimpressive against Kentucky could benefit the cause. Richt’s biggest victory over Florida — the Gator Stomp of 2007 — came when Georgia wasn’t expected to do anything except its usual Jacksonville flop. Now Florida, picked No. 3 in the SEC East, is ranked No. 2 in the BCS standings. Now this is considered Florida’s game to win.
But make no mistake: This is a game these Bulldogs and their coach need in the worst way. There have been breakthrough victories for Richt over the past 11 1/2 years — Tennessee in 2001, Auburn in 2002, Auburn again when Georgia had lost those four of five in 2006, Florida in 2007, maybe Georgia Tech in 2009 — but none lately. If Georgia wins, Mark Richt won’t need to invoke the record to remind us how good his program is. The record will again speak for itself.

Transcript from this week’s UGA-UF Game-planning meeting with CMR, CMB and CTG:
CMR: Sorry I’m late. This whole singing-to-recruits thing is getting out of hand. I just finished singing “Call Me Maybe” to A. Kamara and “Forget You” to D. Henry. I’ve got 16 more requests today alone! Let me ask; do you guys see me as more of a Casey Kasem or a Cousin Brucey? Personally, I love the long-distance dedication….
CMB: Excuse me coach, can we talk about the WLOCP? What’s in the sack anyway?
CMR: Oh that…well, it’s my special “WLOCP Bag O Tricks”. It’s got stuff like end-zone choreography and Halloween-themed uniform gimmicks. I was thinking that this year we could go with the Invisible Man theme because the pollsters clearly don’t appreciate how good we are. What do you think?
CMB: I’ve got 2 names for you: Worley & Henderson!
CMR: Awesome! Who the heck are they?
CMB: 2 dynamic freshmen running backs who, many, many years ago, ran roughshod on then #1 UF, spoiling the Gators’ season.
CMR: Jackpot!! Are they available this weekend?
CMB: No, well, uh, I was drawing a parallel between them and Gurley/Marshall…
CMR: Gotta tell ya’ CMB, I don’t know what you’re talking about half the time, but I love That Thing You Do (CMR stands with air-microphone, begins singing, pointing at CMB) “You…Doing That Thing You Do….”
CTG: Excuse me! Can we talk defense now?
CMR: Oh, of course big fella, sorry bout that! I didn’t see you sitting there behind the Independence Bowl trophy. Fire away…
CTG: I’ve decided that this week, we’re going to just play our base defense, but with a wrinkle! Here’s the really big part…you ready??…I’m going to direct choking gestures at Jeff Driskel the entire game! He will become so un-nerved he will eventually wet himself!
CMR: Fantastic idea! I love Psy-ops, mind-games type stuff! I’ll add that to my “WLOCP Bag O Tricks”! (CMR grabs air-mic again, points at CTG, begins singing AC/DC’s Whole Lotta Rosie) “Let me tell you a story, ‘bout a DC I know, comes to coaching, he steals the show, he ain’t exactly pretty, ain’t exactly small. 35-7! You can’t say we’ve won ‘em all”……..
CTG: We done here??
CMR: Yes, sorry, got carried away. Gotta get to my weekly press briefing anyway. Instead of the usual boring Q&A, I’m going to sing, “Walking on Sunshine”! I’m thinking a little Katrina and the Waves will soothe those fourth-estate savages! See ya’ in Jax fellas!

I really like coach Richt, but I’m beginning to wonder if 10-2 in the regular season and a Capitol One/Outback bowl loss to an inferior team is our ceiling under him. That’s certainly nothing to sneeze at, and I don’t see any coach available at the moment that would be guaranteed to do better, but it just seems like we always slightly (and sometimes vastly) underachieve these days given the consistently excellent recruiting.

It takes a lot of testosterone to fire a coach who averages almost 10 wins a year and runs a clean program, but if we want to compete for championships we must win games like this as you have stated, Mark. Winning 10 games a year and losing the biggest games is not what a championship program does. Hopefully we win this week because if we don’t, I think McGarrity just may have enough testosterone to pull the trigger. And by the way, I like Richt but I am no longer convinced he and his staff can get supremely talented kids really to play when it matters most. Ugh, hate admitting that.

Win in J-ville and it returns to the potential of a special season. Lose and the wheels will fall off. Bottom line, do the players want it bad enough because the last time I checked CMR doesn’t take the snaps and CTG doesn’t rush the opposing QB. It’s up to the players.

I love the dawgs but I have come to believe that we simply don’t win games like this any more. I would love to see them play sound football free of horrible turnovers, inept special teams, and ill-timed penallties. These things have become the hallmark of UGA football and unfortunately they fall at the feet of the coaching staff. I hope I’m wring about this on Saturday, but I would be suprised to be celebrating a win.

It would be a mistake to let Richt go, just because you can’t beat the Gators is no reason to fire a coach who will probably go 10-2 for the second straight year. Keep Richt dogs, it ain’t that bad, there is always that CapitalOne bowl for you to look forward to.

We have too many (more that one is too many) players on the D worried about draft status and not about the importance of showing up every Sat and giving it all they have. I still don’t think UF is all that. They have 2 big wins (LSU and USCjr) both at home and one good road win (Texas A&M). They have struggled against some lesser opponents (Bowling Green and Vandy) I believe which team wins the turnover battle wins this game.
I am concerned though with how little “fire in the belly” our kids seem to have. At SC and at UK they looked like they didn’t give a rats butt.

I do like CMR as a coach but also sometimes a coach can run his course with a program. I feel that CMR has had the tools to bring home a National Championship but hasnt delivered. He has had a top 10 recruiting class every year since he has been at UGA. We cant continue to blame Bobo or Grantham for the team because the Head Dawg always takes the blame. I see poor angles on defense, unfinished blocks on offense, and undisciplined players on both sides of the ball. You can only blame that on the attitude that the head coach brings to a program.

When was the last time another college program tried to hire away any assistant coach?
Name a HC in the SEC that couldn’t win 10 games with the current UGA roster.
Richt is an average coach at best in a state with major talent.
There is no doubt the Admin at UGA don’t care ENOUGH to fix the HC position at UGA. Hell, Bama pays our strength coach more than UGA pays your OC.

I am starting to believe that is all about the mighty dollar! We all know UGA is ranked at the top of athletic programs bringing in the most revenue every season. I think they sell “hope”! Let’s see how high we can be ranked at the beginning of the season, that will sell tickets and t-shirts. Next, let’s schedule teams at home that are worthless and know the “Wal-mart” dog fans will attend, then we can build up huge games before we lose (0-10 vs ranked teams) and hope for next year.
The fan base is not going anywhere. UGA will have money. The fans are ready for championships. 10-2 is great, but 10 meaningless wins and loses to ranked teams is getting old. I want an AD that demands championships, not making money.

I am at a crossroads… I love UGA; I was born and raised in Athens. I graduated in 1999 and got my Masters in 2000. I have loved the Dawgs my entire life & I want good things to happen for Richt & this program! The only problem is that I do not believe in him any longer (I wanted him to be hired when Donnan was fired). I think, and have thought since he was hired, that Grantham is a complete idiot; I have nothing nice to say about him… This staff just makes me so angry. I get physically sick when I think about the results they have delivered to us & the amount of money they make. Yet here we are at 6-1 and if my some miracle or miracles we win on Saturday we can make a run at a National Title (I have no faith that happens, but it could)… Yet, if we lose we will most likely go 10-2 with no hope in sight of making staff changes that need to be made; we need a fresh voice! So, I am left to root hard for us to run the table or root hard for us to lose to Auburn/Ole Miss/ or Tech & our bowl game so we finally have the nerve to do what we should have done 3 years ago… Can you see what a miserable situation it is to be a UGA fan? I do not think we can beat Florida, but I also do not think we can lose any other game on our schedule (except the bowl game)… 10-3 won’t get Richt fired even though it should.

I am sick of hearing from UGA fans that Richt is a good christian man and that getting rid of him would be going back to the Goff and Donnan years. I don’t care if the coach is Christan, Muslim, Athiest, Satanist just win the big games! Every season under Richt this team loses the big games that it should win. The last two seasons have been the softest schedules ever, I don’t care if they win games against the easy teams, they should win those games. It is the tough games that the Richt teams never seem to be able to compete against anymore. As Spurrier said before, I don’t know what happens to these 5 start recruits that go to UGA, they never seem to develop!

I place any blame for the Bulldogs’ not meeting their goals this season squarely on the defense and Coach Grantham. They were supposed to be the strength of the team and have inexplicably not lived up to expectations for the most part. We knew we would have a young O-line and new kickers this year, but the D was supposed to carry the team. Something is wrong with the D, and Grantham needs to FIX IT!

However, when you take this horse on the road to face another of consequence, he seems to get this ‘deer in the headlight’ look and nuts up. This particular horse hasn’t won a game, er, race, against anybody that is ‘known’ to be good, and is something like 0-9 or 0-10 against good competition.
At what point do you tell yourself, ‘man, this horse ain’t gettin it done. Time to make a change or else I’m going to lose my job’. Or do you simply keep on riding this horse HOPING that one day he’ll come thru for you….

CMR, et al, have all but wiped out the “spirit” of most loyal dawg fans. ten win seasons “w/wins of no consequence” (well said MB) will not cut it anymore especially w/the so called talent he’s recruited but has yet materialized into an SECC and most noted NC back to Athens. While other SEC teams, AL, FL, AU, now add SC, have surpassed GA in fewer years then CMR has tenure at GA. IMO, GA just doesn’t have the coaching staff to take their players to the level needed to win the real big games routinely!! He either has to make drastic changes to their O and D schemes or change respective coaches and replace them w/guys that know immediately what changes to make in game situations or play to the strength of their respective players. this guy pease (OC) at FL has done it in one season. you just don’t know what’s coming at you w/that offense. the trend at GA is to fold in these games and look terrible doing it. the laundry list of GA’s woes are too numerous to get into and cmr apparently can’t or won’t fix them. that kind of mentality will get you axed at most schools. only hope will be when the dawgs lose it’ll be CMR’s waterloo. we want wins of consequence at ga once and for all!!!!

I want to win championships also, but there is too much emphasis put on the NC. Sure Alabama is there now but that is because Saban is an old school type coach (that kind wins consistently) and everybody else in the SEC is down. I liked it when you had a good year and then went to your bowl game and they meant something. Not fair to the kids when you are favored to compete for the NC and you lose game 1 or 2 and you are already out of the NC race. The way things are now that makes for a long season because you are right 10 and 2 doesn’t mean much anymore. If Coach Richt does not get discipline and find out who really wants it, it will not get any better against top ranked teams. I think of the Cotton Bowl when Dooley’s Dawgs beat top ranked Texas. That bunch wanted it and were disciplined and nobody gave them a chance. This Saturday UGA better go in with that same frame or mind or it could get ugly. Nodody gives them a chance and if that doesn’t fire you up nothing will. And this bunch seems to have trouble getting fired up. I like Coach Richt but his job is on the line Saturday. Once again let see if the players have his back. Go Dawgs.

If Richt loses to Florida I predict he steps down to keep from being fired. It’s Smart or Petrino in my eyes. Either would be upgrades and would do no worse than Richt. We have a coach in Athens who is a nice guy who uses the plentiful talent in this state to stream roll the weaker teams, but the mojo has been gone for about 4 years with this Head coach beating anyone with a pedigree. He has a chance Saturday night to shut the naysayers up………I just don’t see it…..So like Clemson was stuck with 9 win and a bowl Ken Hatfield, we are stuck with 10 win Richt and a bowl.

So let’s look at this from a long term perspective. No matter what happens, he ain’t going anywhere after this season. However, show up like we did in the past two games and get stomped and the watch begins. The good news is that we can’t hide behind a weak schedule next year so it will become very apparent if he still has it or not. However, the spotlight needs to be on our defensive coaching staff. Richt is an offensive mind and that seems to be performing as it should. Maybe Grantham wasn’t the saviour we thought he was.

I dont know about this team because of the defense. They did have an opportunity to be great, but clearly had major offseason distractions. They got lucky with Gurley and Marshall offsetting Crowell’s antics and the dismissal of Carlton Thomas. They havent been so lucky with all the suspensions on defense. It’s clearly kept this unit from creating any kind of consistency and chemistry. Jarvis Jones has also been in and out of the lineup with injuries.

You are right Mark; loose this one and 10 wins means jack and CMR has got to go!
Florida looks good but not great. For gods sake can we play upto our ability? Boo looked liked he ran with something to prove. Our defensive front; well they look terrible. Why do we have to spot someone 14 to 21 before we make adjustments. These are professional coaches; isn’t that what film study to suppose to do. I never see Bama having to make major adjustments. I’m venting; hopefully I’m suprised Saturday but that is what I will be if we win!

RNB,
I said it in another post but what makes you think Smart is the answer? We will be getting yet another coordinator that has been under the umbrella of a great coach (like Richt was to Bowden) and won’t really know if he is capable for at least a few years. If he is a great choice, why isn’t coaching after all the interviews he has had over the last couple of years. As for Petrino, I know you are joking so no need to comment.

The only think Richt hasnt done is win a national title. They are only a year removed from a 6-7 season. The program had collapsed, and its just supposed to all the sudden dominate today’s SEC? 2012 SEC is a much tougher place than in 2002. The East was wide open for Richt. He handled Tennessee, South Carolina was a 6 win ballclub, and UF was in down years with Zook. He still lost twice to LSU in 2003 and Auburn in 2004, so its not like he was dominating national title contenders then either.

Hum…The filter got me. I’ve been waiting for Bradley to write this article. It sums up the last 2 years of post on here from most of the regulars. I’m sure some schools like NC State, Ole Miss etc look at us and say “Mark Richt, come on down”………. But Georgia wants to live in a better neighborhood. Drive a nicer car, a greener lawn……And 10 wins and a bowl in the SEC in really second class. The best football in the country is played in the SEC. We are mid tier, and yes we are because of WHO WE’VE LOST TO the last 4 years….Not who we have beat.

Big Crimson – Let’s say you are on a team that is preseason number one and picked to play for the NC. You stumble out of the blocks or have a key injury and lose 2 or your first three games. I don’t believe you are playing for the NC. I am saying it makes for a long season because many of these spoiled fans get pissed off because you are not going to the NC and they give up. Thank God the players and Coaches don’t give up. But to many fans that is there only hope. Sure I like Champions and I want to be one but I am realistic also.

There was a time in college football where a 10-win season could not be described as anything other than extremely successful. But we live in the days of 13 game schedules (factoring in the bowl invite every .500 or above team seems to get) and multiple cupcakes.
Let’s face it, Georgia and almost all major problems are effectively 2-0 and 3-0 before the season starts. So the path to 10 wins requires winning 7 or 8 of the remaining 10 games against legit competition.
Getting to 10 wins under this scenario isn’t too shabby, but it’s a far cry from say a 10-1 regular season playing the types of schedules teams use to play before scheduling multiple cupcakes became the norm. It use to be that someone could potentially beat you every week if you didn’t play well.
My point: A modern coach like Richt should be evaluated based on more than just raw numbers, like a W-L record.

I have been watching them before Dooley showed up so this negative stuff is not new. Dump Dooley stickers were everywhere in 1979 and then he learned how to coach again when some special guys were on the field. No program is strong every year. Check out all programs. Remember when Alabama had fallen so far changed coaches every few years and keep on losing. Now they are hot again and everybody thinks it has always been that way…..well no. How about pulling for your program and let people that know more than you make the coaching decisions. Go Dawgs!!

My earlier comment was not aimed so much at Bobo being ineffective as an OC (as he primarily is) but to the fact that when Richt relieved himself of that duty, that is the last time that he was effective. To me, that was an admission by CMR that the job was too much for him to handle. His choices for leadership roles have since been marginal at best. I feel CTG has been reigned it to a point that he too is now almost ineffective.

I think it would be a mistake to get rid of Richt. I think the issue has been recruiting from 2007-2009. We had a lot of high profile recruits do nothing or wash out of the program. You look at all the freshman last year and this year that have immediately made stand out contributions, and its clear they are doing a far better job recruiting and coaching them up. In just one year of Grantham, Justin Houston turned into the beast everyone thought he would be. The momentum is back in the program.

Look, I’m tired of the goody-two-shoes, positive-thinking morons arguing that true fans will never say negative things about the team.
Let’s be adults, here, ok? The team has played like garbage the past three games. Pointing this out is not being a “bandwagon fan” or any such nonsense. Those of you who are happy-clappy and think that just being positive about the team will translate into success on the field are idiots. Try that when it comes to any other arena – your finances, your personal health, etc. – and see how far it gets you.
“Gee, the doctor says I have a tumor on my liver, but he’s just being negative! He’s not a true fan of my physical health.”
“I know that the bank says my account is overdrawn, but they are just not true believers! I refuse to see that negative balance!”
The team is underperforming. The coaching staff has problems. Let’s not sugar coat this, and quit saying that those who point out the flaws are not “real fans.”
I want the Dawgs to win as bad as anybody else, but that doesn’t make me blind.

If we are going to get rid of Richt, please go out and hire a coach winning at another program with less talent. Please don’t go out and get an assistant like Smart to appease the fan base. You need to make a big splash, especially if you want to keep recruits. Spurrier to Carolina or Saban to Alabama should be the blueprint. Even Meyer to Fl. is a good example because he had shown he could win at a smaller school with nowhere near the talent he would have at Fl. Tenn getting rid of Fulmer to make a splashy hire is a perfect example of what not to do. They have been set back for years. Plus if it happens this year (which I don’t think it will), we might be in competition with Auburn and Tenn in the hiring dept.

Here we go again with the CMR talk that he will leave or get fired if we lose to the Gators. It will not happen! If he wins it just calls off the heat till next year.At the end of the 2013 season if he only wins 7 or 8 games they (Admin.)will plan a easy and correct way for CMR to leave. He will walk away and have new goals in life, not football. At this point in time, the Board likes him and he has strong support from several KEY people. Also forget the Kirby Smart talk.He will not come to UGA. Just waiting on Saban to leave or retire. He wants to be Head Coach at Bama.We can talk about the 2.8 million he makes in salary, but to CMR the reason he coaches is the love of the game and being around young men to be an influence too. I know it’s hard to support the DAWGS this year(I also have a problem with the support)but as I have said before, funny things can happen on any given Saturday. Go DAWGS and please play like the DAWGS of years past.

Needless to say, as a UGA alum, I was very disappointed with UGA’s performance against Kentucky on Saturday night…70-something yards rushing against UK. That’s disgustingly embarrassing!
However, one moment summed up to me the Mark Richt situation and why UGA will never compete at the most elite level of college football. At the end of the first half, the freshman place kicker, who had already missed a PAT, shanked a chip shot field goal that banged off the upright and through to give Georgia a slim two-point lead at the half over the worst team in the SEC. The camera caught CMR laughing as he left the field. I, as a UGA fan, saw absolutely funny about any part of the Dogs performance in the first half. I can’t imagine Nick Saban laughing in that situation. There would have been steam coming out of his ears as he sprinted to the locker room to raise he$$ with players and coaches.
There’s the difference…no fire, no passion! The players take on the personality of their coach…no sense of urgency.
Unfortunately, we are stuck in this rut. McGarity is not about to fire a coach who wins 9-10 games each year. UGA with CMR will always win at least that many because of scheduling and the fact that they will out-talent the lower level teams in the SEC. You might as well be satisfied Bulldog Nation because Richt’s job is safe until he decides to leave on his own. The game against the hated Gators this weekend will, in no way, have any effect on CMR’s employment status. Resignation is a pretty bitter taste to swallow.
Wow!…wish we had Will Muschamp. Watch his passion on the sidelines on Saturday.

I’m personally tired of whining UGA fans that think Nick Saban and Urban Meyer can be found around every corner. No one else is beating these teams, so you can stop lining up head coaches from other conferences. Mullen has yet to beat a single good SEC team. So much for him being a prodigy. Smart? Lets see him do something out from under Saban’s shadow. Muschamp looks good now as long as Brent Pease stays as OC. Driskel was a mess until they lured him in from Boise St. If they fire Richt, I hope Ray Goff Jr takes the job and Tech wears out UGA for 10 years straight.

I’m afraid our problems won’t be cured until the roster changes some. Some of these guys are more concerned with the name on the back of the jersey instead of the ‘G’ on the helmet. Unfortunately they are the players with the most talent. It becomes a double-edged sword: Give yourself a chance to win by playing the best talent you have or try to teach a lesson by playing the guys with the most desire.
Before you automatically say you would play the guys with the desire be careful. Ray Goff did that one year and we lost a homecoming game to Vanderbilt. He was right (there were discipline issues with some selfish starters) but it cost us in the won-loss department.
I suspect Richt and McGarity have already discussed this. Some NFL caliber talent will exit in the offseason with well wishes but no tears of sadness.

6-1 is not bad, but it’s not good either. 6-1 is not bad if you are happy with being 4th best in the SEC, happy with not contending for the SEC title (based on performance so far), happy with not being a national title contender, happy with being… average. If that’s you then 6-1 is not bad…. Now 7-1, THAT will be a significantly different stat than 6-1. 7-1 brings in a whole entirely different path for this program. So let’s review this post again in a week.

The overall production from the last two recruiting classes have been the best I’ve seen since the 2006-2007 classes. Unlike his early years, you have to win the national title to win the SEC right now. They need to wash some more of these entitled upperclassmen out, and keep the momentum going.

@Joey – Muschamp is also renting Brent Pease as OC. He lured him there from Boise St. which is why his offense isnt a mess like last year. Pease took a lateral move likely to get noticed for a HC job. Who saw UGA winning the East last year? The 4 games they lost were to teams that finished in the top 11. Thats a year later from losing to the likes of Miss St., Colorado, and UCF.

A few things going into this game to give the Dawgs their best chance at winning. First, Bobo doesn’t need to worry about establishing the running game. Run when you think you can break one but other than that — spread the field and throw, throw, throw! Let’s do this Texas Tech style. UGA seems to move the ball best when they open things wide open. Put some new sets in. Use a lot of trick plays. On the defensive side of the ball — scheme a lot and blitz a lot. Put your fastest linebacker on Driskell and tell him to key on him the whole game and hit him every play. Special teams — practice for a change.

Consistency must be the hallmark of any football team. Richt has been a consistent winner. Richt’s wins have consistently come against inferior talent. Richt has consistently had this team underperforming. Here are your other consistencies.
1.) This team is inconsistent.
2.) The defense sans one year has woefully underperformed
3.) Special teams have been a consistent source of trouble
4.) The offense has been consistently predictable
5.) The offensive line has been consistently offensive.
Now, just for s&g, here are a few names of coaches you could toss around should the Georgia job ever become available.
1. Charlie Strong (defensive minded coach with great ties to the SEC)
2. David Cutcliffe (great offensive mind, currently doing good things with Duke)
3. Skip Holtz (it may mean Lou may be around, but make no mistake, he can coach)
4. Kirby Smart (D.C. at ALABAMA, gotta figure if Alabama wins another title, Smart is looking to become a H.C. —- just don’t like bringing in another person with no H.C. experience, but Saban has taught him well)

The fact that they had two weeks to prepare for the worst team in the SEC and looked that bad from start to finish sums up what’s going to happen Saturday. TWO WEEKS!
The defense in particular looked like they hadn’t played a snap all year starting with the first play of the game, nor had even prepared one lick, It baffles me to no end.

Why had the been no piece criticizing CSS for not being able to “win the big ones” for two years in a row and calling for his head at SC. He lost two last year at LSU and ARKY and the two this year LSU and FLA that wouod have put him in the SECCG had he come away with one win either year but he could not come thru either year. Why arent the writers calling for his head?.

How many stud seniors has UGA had since the 2005 team? Seems to me that UGA is nothing but an NFL feeder program. Perhaps the reason that the defense cannot stop anyone is because most players are auditioning for the NFL and trying to stay healthy instead of going all out to try to shutdown opponents.
The same can be said for Murray. Didn’t he come to UGA as a dual threat QB who could pass? How many times have we seen Murray hold the ball and look at covered WRs when there’s plenty of running room to pickup a 1st down yet he doesn’t take off like he used to? How many times have we seen other SEC QBs running to pick up 1st downs and TDs to give their team a chance to win?
I think UGA players are all about the money.

Gators play tough. They have obvious weaknesses but play relentless, physical football which overcomes a lot of shortcomings. The Dawgs have as much talent as ever but what weaknesses they have (and all teams have them) seem to get exposed and become glaring problems.
The Dawgs can absolutely win this game but similarly they can easily lose by 4 touchdowns. I’ll say that we are definetly due for a signature win and if it all comes together Saturday, it could be a beautiful thing for the program and for CMR.

South Carolina did not play LSU in 2011. They actually lost their other SEC game to Auburn! LMAO! The same Auburn team UGA smoked 45-3.
The reason SC fans aren’t calling for CSS’s head is because SC is playing the best football in their history right now. It’s never been better for this sustained period of relevance. Spurrier has them respected year-to-year now as an SEC contender. Most didn’t think SC would ever be this successful.

There is only one candidate that could even remotely come in here and do better than Richt that doesnt already have a big name job…Chris Peterson. Petrino isnt an option. No one wants his baggage. Peterson, like Meyer, has proven he can win huge, consistently at the mid-major level. All these other pipe dreams are Derek Dooley’s in the making…solid coaches that have had no real success that will translate to the SEC.

If UGA will change it up a little this weekend, they can win this game. I’m talking put two running backs in the backfield. Like Samuals and Gurley. Then Fla. can’t key on one, opens up the passing game. Florida can be beat, but they make most teams beat themselves.

UGA is either out-coached or the coaches cannot get the players fired up to play every weekend because they play just well enough to win against medicore teams and badly against good teams. Which ever it is – if that doesn’t call for a new coach, what does? As an alum of 1969 I’m tired of losing to the Gators 17 times out of 21 years. And I expect the Dogs to lose again this weekend.

Mark you stated the obvious. Most programs would give their first born to be 6-1. However, we expect more and maybe we got too involved in the hype. I think we have multiple problems on this team. First warning sign was when players were supportive of the ones that were suspended. They should have been mad as hell at them for letting the team down. Richt is hugging Rambo after the 4th game. We do not know what goes on behind the scenes but it seems like discipline of these players should set an example and the fellow players would let them know about it. Second thing I see is a lack of leadership on defense by the players. I do not see that Junkyard Dawg enthusiam. This past Saturday I did not see much emotion till the 4th quarter and that was from Shawn Williams. Senior leadership should be set by example and the team rallies behind it. I do not see this at all. The offense scores 29 points and that should win against any team. Malcom Mitchell was the only offensive player showing that enthusiam as well. Third, our defense is terrible.
Grantham should know what is going on. Players over pursue and do not stay in their lanes. Blown assignments, poor alignment. How many times you see players confused on where they should be lined up? Fourth, special teams are horrible. We can not boom a punt. Barber punts consistantly 35-40 yards every punt. We need him to boom a few. No matter who is on punt return does not know when to catch the ball, let it go or when to call a fair catch. Every extra point is and adventure. Kickoffs have been the only decent part of special teams. Fifth, Mark needs to show some fire. He needs to kick some of these players and coaches ass. He needs to be in their face and let them know there is only one way and that is his way. Get on the bus or get the hell off. Mark looked like a man without a purpose Saturday night. He looked like he was going thru the motions and lost. Perhaps he has lost his drive? Don’t get me wrong. I am a 100 percent Dawg. It is my school and I have passion for it that has consumed a lot of my life. I hate to lose but what I hate the most is seeing half effort. Maybe these players are not good as they are susposed to be or perhaps they are not coached properly. Maybe a combination of both? All I know it is time to step up and man up. They want to play grown up football, well this week is their chance to show the world what they got. If not, then as much as I like Mark, it will be time for a change at the end of the season. I see passion from our coaches as Grantham and Bobo, Richt needs to show some as well and maybe this team will benefit from it.
See you in Jacksonville.

I believe it and that’s another knock against Bobo right there. Murray should be a Heisman candidate but he seems to be forcing too many passes. Nothing wrong with calling a pass play then pulling it down for a rush when the entire defense is dropping into coverage. SC’s QB killed us doing that and Murray looked pretty good doing it the past 2 seasons.

@DarthDawg – Murray himself might also be concentrating on the reads and not just letting his ability take over. He’s still growing as a QB and definitely looks a lot better this year than last. Bobo seems to be a bit better this year, but I dont like how they still cant run the ball effectively against good teams. They are also scoring way too quickly…as quick as going 3 and out which hasn’t given the D as much rest as they need.

@Joey – they were losing to teams with worse talent regularly in 2009 and 2010, so yeah, i would call beating those teams a step up. They got wore out by OSU and a 7 win UT squad in 2009. Lost to Kentucky that year too. No Tech did not have better talent than UGA in 2009, so that win is suspect. Just a make up for losing in 2008 as much as anything. They lost to Colorado, Miss St., a bad UF team, and UCF in 2010. Now they are beating those teams regularly = momentum. THey now need to take the next step which is beating top 10 ball clubs again.

Reading all these comments is pretty entertaining but also very sad. I am a Bulldog fan(I graduated from UGA in ‘89) and I want the team to win. However, I don’t let the way that these kids (remember, they are just kids) perform on a football field effect my mood or my outlook on life. Some of you really need to examine what your priorities are if you get physically sick over the outcome of a college football game – you need some serious help if it effects you that much. After a win or a loss by UGA, does your day-to-day life really change that much? Would a National Championship really improve your life as a person not directly involved with the team (player or coach)? Mark Richt is a man of character who is not perfect by any means, but I would much rather have him as my coach than a Nick Saban, who will lie to your face – I don’t care how many titles are won or lost. There are more important things in life than to be totally consumed by college football.

To MB, and all you UGA fans out there…let’s be absolutely clear on one major prediction and point: Unless and until the following coaches retire or leave the SEC: Saban, Miles, Spurrier, and after Sat you can probably add Muschamp and Mullen at Miss State, UGA will NEVER when the SEC or BCS title under CMR. Until Urban Myers left, he would have been at the top of this list along with Saban (anybody notice what’s he’s doing at OSU, even on probation?). CMR is what he is and always will be..an ok, middle of the road coach who will usually win 8, 9, or even 10 games, just enough NOT to get fired, but incapable of beating any of the better championship winning coaches in the SEC or even a few in other conferences. Every year, UGA has top ten talent. And every year, CMR and his coaches coach that same talent DOWN, not up. Overall, he’s just a slighty better version of Ray Goff and Donnan.
So get used to it Bulldog nation. Until you get serious and ring the phone of Bill Snyder, Kirby Smart, or Chris Peterson, or the Oregon coach…there will be NO additional championship hardware in the athletic department trophy case. CMR is what he is.

We have a great record against bad teams…..but a lousy one against good teams. Its not JUST the record….its hard fighting, etc. Even w/Dooley a UGA team did come(in most cases) ready to play. If they got beat it was not due to over-powering or lack of hustle…..at the end of a loss we AT LEAST looked like we fought hard and were just bested. This team now cannot line up in the trenches. They cannot hold their own against an aggressive defense, ‘coz they are too weak in the trenches. We have been out-recruited up front, and it has told on us. Muschamp has re-tooled down there way ahead of us, and we are fixin’ to find out Saturday. I am not a fair-weather friend, but we REFUSE to bring in the line necessary to win big games. The better teams figure it out…..line up mano y mano and slap us around. I do not want to hear about how many yards we had against the Sisters of Mercy…..we keep fooling ourselves so badly after victories over inferior teams. South Carolina stuffed our noses into the dirt and laughed while they did it. Boise State figured out last year (as did LSU and Michigan State in the bowl-game) that we were weak up front. Folks, until we address that, all is for naught. You ain’t winin’ the SEC without an o-line!

It’s all about the trends. We don’t win big games anymore. In big games and close games Bobo seems to just flat out disappear. Grantham has not been able to build on last years momentum. Don’t forget we kept LSU to 12 yards in one half of the SECCG game last year. We have players that can play. We come out flat or play down to competition more times than any other big time program. I think a bigger problem for our program as a whole is our national perception now. Big IF’S here but IF we beat Florida and IF we beat an undefeated ALA in the SECCG, I bet there would be a pretty good chance that we would still not get a shot at the NC game based on our national perception. Another one loss team would be voted in ahead of us, because we have lost a lot of respect over the last couple of years based on our performances in bigger games.

Reasons why UGA isn’t able to beat an elite program and will never be able to do so unless these deficiencies are eliminated:
1. We never seem to play with passion, i.e., we don’t want it bad enough. Oh, I’m sure that we want to win in our heads but not in our hearts.
2. We always sell the players on our past glory and legacy and we just seem to think that we are entitled to greatness. Well, we can’t cash that check anymore.
3. Special teams excellence is not emphasized and it shows in our performance.
4. Our strength and endurance, especially in the OL and DL, does not match up with an Alabama, L.S.U., S.C. or Florida. It probably wouldn’t against Miss. St. and it almost didn’t against Tennessee and Kentucky.
The bottom line is, even with great coaches, players and fans, we live too much in the past and we don’t truly and completely commit to what must be done to built an outstanding program and team. Fix these 4 things and win championships.

Way, Way, Way past time for Richt and his clown cronies/assistants to go. I don’t care if we do win this coming game. We won’t, but just say we do. There has been no coaching up of recruits, they’re playing like they don’t care, and I don’t blame them. Murray is a junior and possibly back next year, but who succeeds him? And why isn’t that guy given any playing time? And the defense just sux and that’s with some supposed studs, whom we lose next year. Who replaces them? This program is a disaster from top to bottom. Time to make some hard changes.

The problem isn’t beating Florida this weekend. I think the Dawgs win an ugly game since Florida’s offense isn’t good at all (UGA’s defense will make them look better than they really are just like against SC).
The problem is after UGA wins out, they stand to get embarrassed in the GA Dome again unless they get their act together.
Before the SC game I honestly felt that UGA was the only team on this side of the country that could threaten Bama simply because of the balanced offense. I don’t care about the Kentucky performance, I’m still stuck on one night in Columbia. UGA has a track record of not always playing 4 quarters in a big game. Yeah, Florida is a big game but they are fool’s gold. I think this game looks a lot like last year’s where Florida’s offense was also pretty bad but looked great against UGA for a good portion of the game.

We’ve lost 16 of the last 18 games against teams making the top 25
We’ve lost 14 of the last 17 games against teams making the top 10
Mark Richt for 7 consecutive seasons’ now has not beat a single SEC team who put-up a winning SEC Record
UGA hasnt beaten a top 20 team in 4 yrs
UGA is 0-10 vs the top 10 in 4 yrs
UGA is 2-14 vs the top 25 in 4 yrs
UGA cant beat its main rival FL unless they are just a bad team
Losing the last 2 bowl games to subpar teams
And having yet another top 10 recruiting class
oh
And did I mention putting more players in the NFL than any other SEC team
I didnt realize being a “”"”"”"”"”"TRUE UGA FAN”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”" meant supporting a coaching staff instead of supporting the program

Ok I will not claim to being a professional arm-chair coach, I wont even claim to be a well versed College Football fan….I am a Dawg fan and thats about it. I have watched the Dawgs since getting my diapers changed. I love Football and I have noticed a trend lately that I am sure many other have. A consistently dominant football team doesn’t normally dominate one phase of the game. They don’t have an all-star running back and run the ball the entire game, the best Football teams use every player on the roster. They have a serviceable QB, talented receivers, talented OL, talented RB and usually not a single ball hog on the team (or maybe 1). They are so unpredictable that they could run a 5 yard slant pattern on 1st down in the 4th quarter, or a QB sneak on 2nd down and 30. They are an unpredictable team, and it almost always seems they are running a quick screen to the right on a WR blitz, and a 90 yard handoff up the middle in a protect defense. And they have 4th team receivers that make plays like they could be 1st team on any other team in the league. I would like to see this same unpredictability in the UF game. IF we spread the ball around and successfully run 5 yard handoffs up the middle, and short passes to the corners AND DONT TURNOVER the ball, we should have a chance in the 4th to put another W up and fight our way back to the top 5. I dont see us in the National Championship picture, we had that chance and we handed South Carolina a victory (get it handed, turnovers). We are fighting for the East now, and a chance to catch Alabama on a bad day. Dawgs CAN win this one, as long as we are not predictable, if it seems we cant run the ball on a 4th and 1, or if it looks like Richt handed the Florida Sports Drinks a copy of our game plan then we are done. But if our Defense plays all 4 quarters, our coaching staff dust off that play book that won us the first 5 games with 40 points plus, and we wear super glue on our hands WE WILL WIN 45 to 38 in a close but high energy game. Our guys have to play with heart and I think its time for a little swagger to get back in our step….we need a Gator Stomp, we need a Black Out (both of which I know aren’t even possible). We need something to breathe fire in these boys veins. Our coaching staff cant walk in here conceding Florida is a better team, and hoping they suddenly forget how to play football. We MUST TAKE THIS WIN, or else the Dawgs will be considered a bigger bust than the 2012 LSU tigers.

Here’s the record of our opponents to date read it and still tell me I’m crazy for being concerned about the state of our program. I’m sorry we’ve built a resume the past two years on fool’s gold wins take a look:
Result – team – (their record)
W – Buffalo (1-6)
W-Missouri (3-4)
W- Florida Atl (1-6)
W- Vandy (3-4)
W- Tenn (3-4)
L- SC (6-2)
W – Kentucky (1-7)
? – Florida (7-0)
?- Ole Miss (4-3)
?- Auburn (1-6)
? Ga So (6-1) * Subdivision
? Ga Tech (3-4)
So take out UF and SC – two toughest games on the schedule, and Ga So – subdivision team, the combined record to date of the rest of the FOOL’S GOLD SCHEDULE IS: 20-44!!!
TWO VERY FAIR QUESTIONS TO ASK:
1. Does M.Richt deserve to keep his job if he loses both of the only games he needed to win on the schedule?
2. Can we call 10-2 in the regular season a success with THAT schedule?

Dawgs? Motivated? Win a game against a ranked opponent? Yeah, right!
Realistic fans are embarrased by this “well, we won 10 in a row last year” and “we will be 10-2 at the end of the season”. ESPN’s difficulty of schedule has us at number 114! That means only 6 D-1 teams have easier schedules… and we are 6-1 so far! Will AU get its first conference win against UGA? Not too unlikely.

Dear William C. Hartman Fund members,
Georgia Tech recently returned a limited quantity of tickets priced at $75 each. Contractual agreements stipulate that, for home events, schools may charge visiting teams the ticket price our patrons pay at the visiting team’s stadium. The visiting school may return unsold tickets to the home school. Those tickets are to be sold at the face value that is charged to the visiting team.
The returned tickets that are available will be located in the 600 level of Sanford Stadium.

What is wrong with GA fans
October 22nd, 2012

I have diagnosed what is wrong with UGA fans. They suffer from the extreme fat-hunger known as “bunny rabbit-schedule” starvation.
Without an occasional meal of Gator meat, Gamecock stew, Bama beef or Tiger tenderlions, bunny rabbit schedule eaters, who exist only on a “Bunny Rabbit football Schedule” diet will develop diarrhea (of the mouth) in about a week after a loss to another top 10 team, with headache, lassitude, and a vague discomfort. If there are enough bunny rabbits on the schedule, the people eat till their stomachs are distended; but no matter how much they eat they feel unsatisfied.
This perfectly describes the current state of the bulldog nation, I believe.

Of course the record doesn’t mean anything. Who has Georgia beaten to deserve the 10th spot in the BCS? The only team they have played wiped the floor with them. Georgia wins against Florida, then they are deserving, but another loss to another ranked opponent discredits the entire program and some butts will be getting warm within the staff. Remember, this is the second year of having the easiest schedule in the SEC and Georgia has still put their destiny in other team’s hands instead of doing it on their own.

We’ll see how Saban does in his 12th year at Bama, in 2018.”
Nick Saban has already won two National Championships and is in line for his third. I’m still trying to figure the logic behind your post, but National Championships trump the percentages you’re throwing out there, because to win the big one you eventually beat the best and are in place to even win the title. Two titles in five years is something I will take over the statistic you threw out hoss.

This is why you don’t fire Mark Richt. Remember how Tennessee fired Phillip Fulmer after one bad year. Auburn thought it was time to get rid of Tommy Tuberville. Now the programs are in a lot worse shape than they were with the two coaches. Firing Mark Richt doesn’t mean who you bring in will be any better. I would rather go to the national championship than the outback bowl too. But at the same time, I would rather go to the outback bowl than no bowl at all.

Fred, you’re the reason so many people hate Georgia fans. The delusion and BS you throw out there is so far from reality that it damages an entire fan base. Everyone with any college football sense knows Nick Saban is the best coach in college football, and I would put my life on it that Georgia would take him in a second if they got the opportunity. The guy is a proven winner and has his best years ahead of him in Tuscaloosa where he is conducted a well oiled machine. Keep having to defend your fairy tale thoughts and I’ll continue to watch Nick Saban win Championships and watch Mark Richt settle for mediocrity. In golf terms, Saban will win your argument 4 and 3. Look it up if you don’t know what that means.

LSU is 11th all-time in wins. The reason most teams hire a new HC is because the previous one retired, moved on to something bigger and better, or couldn’t get the job done. Guess why LSU needed to hire Saban? Same goes for Bama. Bama is one of the best programs ever when they aren’t hindered by probation and that’s not meant to be a jab, just the truth.

It’s amazing how much the season so far, the coach, the quotes, etc. of the DAWGS parallels that of the Braves. Almost daily I see something out of their situation that reminds me of the Braves. What is really ironic though is that none of the writers would never even think about calling for Fredi G’s head, but won’t hesitate to “lower the boom” on one Mr. Richt at every opportunity. Wonder if UGA was in Atlanta that would make a difference, or if at least one of them was a “Hog-Rider Buddy” with MR? As for the DAWGS and the BRAVES, it’s SOSDS (same old story, different sport).

Only a few teams have won a MNC with just solid overall team play. Most champions have featured a Heisman caliber player (i.e. someone finishing in the Top 5 in voting if not out right winning it). Main problem with Richt’s teams last few years, is that they have underachieved. Cannot win the big games against top-ranked opponents. Does Mark Richt have control of his program?
Does Mark Richt have the discipline in his players to keep them out of trouble and keep them off the newspapers, ESPN headlines?
Are the Coordinators and assistant coaches doing enough to get the team to the next level?
Does Mark Richt have what it takes to get his team to play at a championship level for an entire year?

Here’s a Win Win situation for Georgia fans. Georgia goes 10-2 this year which allows Richt to go out on a positive note. He retires to missionary work with no pay out from UGA. Georgia hires Kirby Smart and McGarity gives him the option of retaining or replacing all coaches. K. Smart keeps Grantham & Bobo for one year but they are on notice to perform or else. He keeps them in order to allow for a smoothe transition and to keep as many recruits as possible. Richt does missionary work for a year or two and then looks for a mid size college to coach or A.D. at. Everybody lives happy ever after. No I haven’t been smoking anything, but’s it’s a great daydream.

No offensive line, special teams with clueless player back to receive punts, kick offs to the 15 yard line and AVERAGE returns of 15-25 yards on top of the short kick, pats that are always an adventure, pitiful tackling, no pressure on qb, db’s who are looking and pointing at each other after long gain or td, so predictable play calling my wife has it figured out and she hates football, and a coach who seems to think everything is either funny or says “its o.k. boys” its just a game. I am not a UGA fan (NC State Alum – Is O’Brien better than Amato?), but it seems to me UGA needs to establish an identity on both offense and defense.

On defense: are we going to be junk yard dawgs or read and react?

There is no way UGA loses this game unless florida gets some cheap turnovers. If UGA wisn the turnover battle, UGA wins it. I think it might be somewhat close at the end, as Florida tries to come back from 10 down, but they will come up short, like they did last year. Florida just has no offense.

Flash back to the year 2008… UGA is undefeated and I believe ranked #1 in the country going into the 5th game of the season against Saban led Alabama. UGA is loaded with NFL talent including the top 12 picks of the NFL draft. Saturday night in Athens and one of the most electric atmospheres I can remember. Richt has called for a blackout to try and motivate his team and the fans…
Well I think you know the rest of the story… Heres the real kicker Fred, similar situations happened in 2007 at UT, 2011 in the SEC champioship game, WVU sugar bowl, etc, etc.. When have you ever seen a Saban coached team not be competitive in big games..

When your defense sets you up with a short field for three of your possessions in a half, and you convert each time, you won’t have a ton of offensive yards that half. In the third half, I think UF had 135 yards against Carolina. In the fourth quarter, it was garbage time. Not saying that FL tore it up on offense, but stats can be deceiving.

Oy. I knew not to read this article but I did anyway. There’s no purpose to articles like this except to complain, though I guess that’s a sports writer’s job any time of year.
What do you want Georgia to do? Fire Richt? I’m sorry, but that’d be a HUUUUGE mistake. Look at Tennessee since they got rid of Fulmer. That’s what awaits UGA if they run Richt out right now.
Besides, if the idiots on these boards got their wish and got Richt fired this year, you do realize that there are around 4 other teams in the conference that’ll ALSO be looking for new head coaches? How dumb a move would that be?
Also, who would we get to replace him? Seriously, the only person that I think could do as well as Richt is Chris Peterson at Boise. Even then, I think that might be a stretch. And no, I don’t want Kirby Smart back: he burned his bridge when he didn’t grab the DC job a couple years back (not that I wanted him THEN, either).
Also, what makes me sick is that everyone’s given this game to Florida, and if the fans (and local sports writers) have given up on the team, why should they even try?
Also, Mark, what the devil are you trying to intimate here:
“Florida is another such game, though technically Georgia beat the Gators last season.”
“Technically” isn’t needed here, and it’s clear that you put that term there to try and diminish that win, which we NEEDED to get to the SECCG. WE FLAT-OUT BEAT FLORIDA LAST YEAR. No qualifiers necessary.
Go Dawgs!

I’m tired of being a Mark Richt apologist…I don’t know specifically where our problems lie but I do know this. We have had a minimum Top 10 recruiting class for, well forever it seems, but we can’t win championships (national or SEC) or beat Top ranked teams…we have been EMBARASSED more times in the past 5 years than I can ever recall since my days there from 72-75. No team in the country should EVER has us down 28-0 at half time anywhere or at anytime.
Mark Richt is a good man…a good Christian man…probably a great family man and he has done some very good things for UGA but it is TIME to get a GREAT football coach, one who can win with the talent we get year in and year out. We’re like the NY Yankees, as far as our talent base and their payroll…we get the best but don’t win! George Steinbrenner wouldn’t take losing and neither should we! God Bless you Mark Richt but it is time to make a change!

Oh, and someone else said that Richt, Bobo and Grantham don’t actually run the plays the players do. It’s up to the coaches to come up with the game plan. Sometimes a player might should be in zone and not man-to-man, that is the coach’s fault. Our D is broken and I would love for us to beat Fl but it ain’t happening and it’s not because we don’t have the right personnel, we don’t have the right coaching!

I think there is a long standing issue with strenght and conditioning on the line. Both sides of the ball. Even marginal teams seem to man handle our linemen; and we get beat in the trenches every game. Moreover, it was refreshing to see the Dawgs finally use the tight end some at KY, but there’s been woefully little of it this year…and although we used to break defenses backs by passing to the fullback roaming free in the middle, it just never gets called now. Serious lack of imagination with this group. Hope they can reach down and find some heart, or else we get massively butt-whipped Saturday.

The last time I remember UGA being a top team, they were known for a vicious defense that pounded their opponents into the ground. Sam Robards, UT will get rid of Dooley and probably get a good coach. You have to go through a few sometimes to get a good one. Let me ask you, UT isn’t performing right now where they would like to, so what if they get rid of Dooley after this year and then get a really good coach? Was it worth what they have been through? What if they replace Dooley with a really good coach and we keep Richt? What if the new coach gets more of our recruits? What if UT starts kicking our Butt? But of course we have a great guy running the ship.
You said there are 4 other teams looking for a coach; let me ask you again. If you were a coach looking and UGA was one of the 5 teams looking wouldn’t you take into account all of the intangibles? All the D1 talent in the State of GA, the money that UGA brings in thus a higher salary for you?

I do not understand why people want to compare the head coach of their school to Saban. Saban is the exception to the rule. He outworks others in every facet of the game and enjoys doing it. Football seems to be his life and his family knows how important it is to him.
A more realistic comparison in college football would be, say Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer( well maybe), Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly, Les Miles, they are coaches. Saban is a CEO and a Coach.

The “noisier precints” of his constituency are “young and dumb”. You like numbers too Bradley? It took Lord Saban 11 YEARS to win a NC. This is Richts 12th year.
If it took almighty Saban that many years why should you expect the same or more from other coaches particulary Richt? Dooley cant hold Richts jock. It took Dooley 18 years to win one and if not for Herschel we know that wouldnt have never happened nor did it happen the next 2 years with him….
Bottomline is…UGA IS due to win a big game and when you bring up stats that include 2009 & 2010, they are without merit. EVERY team has down years. If I were Richt I would have interrupted you also. People get TIRED of negativity. Richt knows that UGA HAS lost several games against highly ranked opponents and UGA was favored to lose them all. UGA is favored to lose this one too. SUPPOSED to lose. Was SUPPOSED to lose against SC. It is time to beat the odds and win one we arent supposed to. But to keep getting all over Richt just because you have the popwer to do so does not mean you should, that it is justified or that it is even warranted. FAct IS, is that if nto for Richt, UGA might be Auburn or Tenn. UGA has been along with LSU the most consistent team in the SEC since Richt has got there. Consistency UGA has not EVER had and certaninly not since Dooley retired and Dooley wasnt all that. He is a legent because of ONE season. Richt is MORE than ONE season. He is MORE then ONE NC. Saban took 11 years. Richt WILL have his and more than one. It took his mentor what 19 years to win one? BUT he won one. Took Bear Bryant 18 years to win one…BUT he DID. Richt WILL. But if ANY of us hoped for that this year with the young OL we have, we were reaching. Add to that a defense that is UNDERACHIEVING and you get close games and a loss walking into a HUGE buzzsaw in SC. Although UGA could have easily scored more against Kentucky but had a few big play misses that were open. RIcht doesnt have NOTHING to do with defense. He is an offensive coach. The offense is not bad even with the young inexperienced injured OL with guys playing out of position. You know what? Its not LIKE Richt has had ALL the pieces in place in ANY year and should have won big and didnt. EVEN when Stafford and Moreno rreturned and they were given the gift of being ranked #1, there were HUGE holes left from players that were no longer on the team….the year PRIOR UGA WAS the best team in the nation but didnt get the shot Bama got last year to win it. Richt is NOT the problem. CIRCUMSTANCES have been 90% of the issue. UGA had Cox at QB one year and a freshman the next and hadnt had any running backs since Moreno and no OL either….WAIT until UGA has the team to win big BEFORE wanting the coaches head and BLAMING him for not winning big. For not winning games that he is supposed to lose according to the experts. Its LOSING too many games you are FAVORED to win that is a problem and THAT is NOT a problem at UGA and therefore the foundation is very good and actually better than EVER at UGA. IS there another step to take? Yes. Are UGA content to win 10 games? No. We want it all and should. BUT there has to be some reasonable and intelligent thinking and perspective. And negativity instead of support for a team that is just one step away from the big dance is almost shameful. You GOT to see the light at the end of the tunnel. UGA’s defense is not playing as good as they could be. The OL is young and dumb and not as strong and experienced as severl teams defenses. NEITHER of those issues are a result of incompetent head coaching, NEITHER of them. What COULD be done THIS weekend is a game plan to help the OL against Fl defense. QUICK passes. Screens. Dump offs. Roll outs. A good mixture to get the backs some room. NOT coming out trying to air it out to open up room for the backs…because a sack, an interception, 3 and outs will demoralize you and hype them and give them momentum right away. So I do put some responsibility on Richt to help Bobo do a GREAT job in the play calling this week, IN the game planning. I want to see quick hitters over the middle by Murray. Move the ball slowly but steadily. Mix in the run. Be up tempo early. Quick hitters so the OL dont have to hold the defense long. That will get the defense thinking pass and open up some room without putting Murray in danger of losing yards, being sacked or fumbling AND it doesnt let the defense get confidence early. Its a war and MORAL is vital, especially in a game where you are the underdog. Got to KEEP control away from the opponent.
This is a winnable game for UGA. it is time for UGA to win a game they were supposed to lose. This game be more about the defensive players and if they have the heart to play as they should be. They were supposed to be the strength of the team and have not been. They should use this as motivation. They have given up far too many points. The team FEEDS off of a strong defense. it creates momentum and sadly to say, UGA defense hasnt created too much momentum or excitment this year. It IS TIME for them to redeem themselves and SHUT DOWN THE FLORIDA RUNNING GAME AND MAKE THEM THROW THE BALL ALL DAY. THEY WILL COMPLETE SOME BUT WE WILL PICK A FEW TOO! BUT STOP THE RUN AND STOP IT HARD AND HIT THAT QB HARD WHEN HE TAKES OFF….IF THE DEFENSE PLAYS LIKE THEY CAN AND SHOULD AND UGA HAS A GOOD PLAN TO COUNTER FLORIDAS DEFENSE….UGA WILL WIN EASILY. IF NOT, UGA WILL LOSE. DO ONE OF THOSE 2 THINGS AND ITS ANYONES GAME….I HOPE THEY DO BOTH AND UGA WHIPS THEM. ITS NOT IN GAINSVILLE WHICH WILL HELP. ITS TIME FOR AN UPSET! ITS TIME……

Sad to say but Georgia is the worst 6-1 team in the nation. And that’s coming from me & I’ve been a Dogfan since 1972 !
Bulldog born, Bulldog bred, and when I die, I’ll be Bulldog dead.
It really hurts to see the Dogs wallow in mediocrity at the hands of a washed-up 90s FSU/ACC head coach, who was hired from FSU off of St. Bowden’s win/loss record vs. Spurrier’s 90s UF teams. It was a poor decision by our former AD UGa legend Vince Dooley to pick an OC from an ACC team, with no head coaching experience to take over at UGA in the SEC.
UGA under Richt always get’s walloped in the big games and then the sports media finishes the job by bashing and burying us unmercifully. I can’t blame them because it’s true ……..and it’s a damn shame to back into the SECCG just to get your doors blown off annually. It’s BS, man and it’s got to stop !!
Our national prestige is lower now than the Goff and Donnan days. To Wit: On ESPN’s highly rated, nationally syndicated show, PTI both talking heads agreed UGA has no chance vs. UF ……and the SEC is good, but overrated because of overrated, middling teams like Georgia and South Carolina. Paul Finebaum on his highly rated radio show said today South Carolina was exposed by LSU & UF, because the Cocks haven’t played anybody all season. The 35-7 rout over UGA was nothing, because Georgia isn’t a good team and went into that game way overrated !!!…….OUCH !! This a very low period in time for UGA in the eyes of Dawgfans that were blessed to experience the National Championship season. Go Dogs !

Yea – CMR can crow about being “you know what” 6-1. But these wins were against panzi teams: Buffalo, Mizzu, Florida Atlantic, Vandy, Tenn, and KY Jelly (and remember – KY was starting a converted wide receiver at QB who was starting his 3rd game and KY had 3 true freshman starting in DS, and KY’s 2 best receivers were out.) Just like last year (and most recent years under CMR) UGA has NOT one the big games. With UGA having nearly all 4 and 5 star recruits starting – and a defense where 6 (yes, SIX) of the starters could be 1st round NFL material – UGA has the talent to blow nearly every team out. Sounds to me that CMR doesn’t know how to coach that talent.

Several things: Ok..it’s amazing how some of you idiots criticize the players we recruit and blame it on them….if they are so terrible, why is Bama, USC, UF, etc. recruiting them? 2nd: for those of you who get pissed off at us for criticizing the coaches, get a life. They get paid a lot more money than most of us to coach these guys. Yet when they do not perform, do you see their salaries getting decreased? No. Finally, some of us UGA grads do not expect perfection but what do do expect is for the AD at UGA to hire the best staff to make UGA competitive in ALL sports at ALL levels. When Athletes at UGA step on the field, we expect them to give their best. If giving their best means sometimes they lose, that is Ok. So can you really tell me after watching the UGA football play 7-8 games that they as well as their coaches are giving their best? The answer is clear…unless you are just a fool.

Surely Richt knows Georgia is no longer relevant among top D1 programs. Georgia record does not bode well among ranked opponents in recent years. How is it that Georgia recruits so effectively but performs so poorly? The only way a person can claim
Georgia’s football program is successful is in income revenue generated based on percentage invested. I think that is what the administration bases it success.

DAWGS have the talent to win big, but CMR and his coaching staff cannot win the big game anymore! CMR has lost the mojo that he had, when he first came to UGA!!!!!! Got waxed and were not ready to play South Carolina two weeks ago just as SC wasn’t ready to play Fla last week. It happens when you play a game with 18 – 21 yr old young men. If we get hammered in Jacksonville , I’ll still be a Fan of the Team and Coach Richt. Bradley, your opinion doesn’t matter to me at all……………….just saying!

#1: There’s no way those in power would move to dislodge a coach who’s again winning 10 games a year.
This precisely the problem. Either the powers that be have low goals, such as focusing on only winning the SEC East (yes, it is a low goal, because that’s Vanderbilt’s and Kentucky’s goal also, not Florida).
#2. “…it’s about winning games of consequence, the games this program has ceased to win…”
This statement represents a contradiction from what the writer stated in quote #1. Why was Mike Shula, Ron Zook, Tommy Tuberville, Phillip Fulmer, etc. fired? Not because they sucked, but because ” “…it’s about winning games of consequence.”
#3. And finally..”Richt’s three victories in Jacksonville have come against Gators who would finish 7-5, 9-4 and 7-6.”
Florida is the biggest rival next to Tech, right? I mean, we have agreed to play them in Jacksonville every year just to give that s__t hole town some revenue, so it’s not like it’s exactly a tough road game. The answer is simple: If you want to be on the path to winning championships, then you have to force him to resign or fire him. If hoping to back door your way into the SEC Championship game when other teams have down years, then keep him and don’t be so upset with all of the blow outs against teams who actually care about winning.

holding teams to top 15 best in nation in second half and 4th quarter scoring.
None of the other stats matte ron defense except for;
scoring (1.9 more points than 2011)
2nd half scoring (8 points a game, better than 20110
4th quarter 4 pints a game (better than 2011)

When your defense sets you up with a short field for three of your possessions in a half, and you convert each time, you won’t have a ton of offensive yards that half. In the third half, I think UF had 135 yards against Carolina. In the fourth quarter, it was garbage time. Not saying that FL tore it up on offense, but stats can be deceiving.

Mr Bradley… I think you under estimate Mr McGarity. 10 wins and 2 losses of huge consequence will doom Coach Richt. This week is do or die for his staff and I hope someone tells them so. Lose to UF and you are gone. Why? Because the program has hit a juncture where it can not progress without the big win. Our recruiting will suffer because every rival will elude to the fact that they beat us every year. This program has a cap on it now and that, if you will remember, is what Mark Richt was brought in to do.. blow the cap off this program. The program cannot afford to lose Saturday. Period. Excellence is not about the number of wins. It is about the quality of wins. UGA can win 9-10 games and not break a sweat. Mr.McGarity has to be eying those losses to quality opponents and figuring up what toll those losses takes on the program…the whole athletic program that is under his authority. He gave Coach Richt a pass last year because there was measurable progress. This year will be a failure if we don’t return to the GA Dome. I am quite sure he has already set that as the bar and justifiably so.
If there had been a rash of injuries that had diminished the potential of this team then perhaps he could overlook it. But we have talent and it is noticeably under performing. There is no excuse this time. The dead weight was jettisoned. The team returned a ton of starters on defense. There can be NO excuse at all for continuing to lose to quality programs.
The long and the short of it is simply… beat UF or it is time for a regime change.

I think you have missed the point of all these vents: It IS TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THEM since the Dalai Lama of the SEC can’t, won’t, and does not possess the ability to do it.
@George Stein and Loser Alert:
I admire that about him too; Winning is not the end all be all. But what is he coaching football for? To have fun and make $3 mil a year? Football is a competitive sport last I checked. The powers that be record wins and losses, not whether all the boys showed and had fun. Football is about trying to win and not trying to lose. It’s as simple as that. So, what if your boss, after continuous f’ ups and lost company money, said, “The sun rises in the east tomorrow. Don’t worry about it dude?” …lol. What if your coach gives off the attitude to the team that winning “this” game doesn’t matter, we have 6 more to play? C’mon fellas, being a pacifist is for non-competitive activities.

Assuming UGA loses to UF but wins out, 20-4 for regular season games is correct. Don’t count last year’s SECCG or bowl, or this year’s bowl. Including every game, worst case would be 20-7, possibly 21-6. JB is right.

20-4 and losses in the non-BCS bowls is for Arkansas. Is that what we want for Georgia? Stop looking at macro numbers and concentrate on the micro. One cannot continue to justify top 10 and sometimes top 5 recruiting classes and getting blown out by almost every ranked opponent you face. Mind you, not losing, but being blown out. If you asked Muschamp would he trade his top 25 players for Georgia’s, do you think he would flat out say no? I’m sure Muschamp could use Murray, Gurley, Jarvis Jones, Ogletree, King, M. Mitchell, Harvey-Clemons, Jordan Jenkins, and Theus. BTW, Florda offered every last one of those names I mentioned, and so did Alabama. ALL OF THEM. It is simply underachievement. The 20-4 “possible” record is simply a by product of recruiting and we all know it’s not coaching.

Fool me once same on you, Fool me twice shame on me. UGA keeps repeating the same mistakes.
Special teams remain a disaster year after year.
The roster management is horrible. Once again, UGA doesn’t have enough OL on scholarship. How can this keep happening? OL has had 5 of 22 starters for as long as the sport has existed. That means sign 4 to 5 EVERY year. The recruiting effort for 2013 as far as OL is iffy at best. We need to sign at least 6 and we have 3.
Mike Bobo offense isn’t performing close to the talent level he has at his disposal. Somebody needs to track the number of times Bobo calls the following play pattern:
1. 1st down try a low percentage 20+ yard pass
2. Run up the middle on second and 10 and lose 2-3 yards
3. On third and 12-13 try another low percentage 20+ yard pass
4. Punt
The guys all around where we have our season tickets can call Bobo’s plays and if a bunch of guys in the stands can figure out the Bobo plan, the top DC in the conference surely can also.

Richt for President
October 23rd, 2012
2:31 am
Yes, everyone is tired of not winning when it counts. But Mark Richt is good for Georgia and should remain at UGA for a long time. Just take a look at TN and Aub, etc. Do we really want that? And the ones who are winning just haven’t got smacked on hand yet like USC, Ohio State, SMU, etc. Saban is a good coach, but you think he’s really that good? If he was so good, he would have made it in the NFL. It usually comes to light eventually why the ones who are dominating were able to do so at the college level. Coaches like Mark Richt are from a bygone era where winning was important, but character and pride in your University were more important than a National Championship. Yes, Georgia fans would like to win a National Championship again and I am sure we will again. However, UGA is unlike any other University in the SEC. With its rich history and Athens, GA being the best college town in America, Who could ask for more? I’ll admit I have been blaming and been down on Richt too, but just like the old Milwaukie beer commercial used to say sitting around the campfire “It doesn’t get any better than this”. So stop focusing on every win or loss and have some pride by supporting your team and university. Get off your rear ends this weekend and cheer the bulldogs on to a victory. This is what the dawgs need the most at this time and that is support from their fan base. Mark Richt is good for Georgia and yes he is also going to win a National Championship. Go Dawgs!

They’re gonna beat us by 28 points.
What will our record vs ranked teams over the past three years be then Mr. Richt?
And we could’ve had Muschamp as HC a couple of years ago.

Richt is too hard headed for his own good and it shows. His decision to keep Martinez as D coordinator, his decision to let special teams be run by committee so that no one is accountable for the awful results, keeping Bobo who is at best adequate as an O coordinator, recruiting blunders, etc. McGarity will probably wait until the new President is in place to make any kind of move. He did not have all that success at UF by being stupid.

There is something seriously wrong with the program in Athens. Best talent in the country, most money in the country and the best facilities and fan base and we struggle against Kentucky. Our scout team has more talent than Kentucky. They play with no focus, no emotion, no edge, no passion, no nothing. The fact that CMR was laughing going to the locker room at half time tells you something. If you were on a Saban team that played like Ga. did you would be looking for a place to hide during halftime. Saban would not be laughing. It’s been this way since mid nineties and it’s not going to change. If you take your money to Jacksonville this weekend your a fool.

Grantham is a wind bag. He makes the loudest noise as do all empty barrels. Do the math. Talent, talent, talent on defense. Slow linebackers who can’t get to the edge. gut runs up the middle. If the talent is there on the field, we must not have any talent on the sidelines–meaning Grantham.

Well written.
I think Richt has an image in his head of how a winning football team is supposed to play and act. It has a lot of the old FSU and Miami in it. The rules are loose the players are thugs intimidating, not much brain work, that is saved for recruiting, the respect of the game they play is not found on the field.
Now Richt is taking that disrespect and bundling it into the brand he came here to clean up. In the Dooley days this team would come out for warm up and you could hear a buzz in the crowd only reserved for the Alabama’s and LSU’s., Southern Cals and Notre Dames. There is something about seeing a great college football team warm up in a visitor’s stadium, it is like watching Secretariat being lead out of the stable before a Kentucky Derby, almost godly. These guys don’t have that magic, they are all about themselves, instead of building something they can come back to for years they hang their hats on the temporary self. They become a common football team.

Wally Butts averaged not quite 7 wins a year, Vince Dooley a little over 8 and Mark Richt about 9.5. Since 1939, Richt is demonstrably the best coach UGA has had. Vince won one national title because of the presence of one once-in-a-lifetime player. There’s only one Saban and one Meyer and last I checked they both had jobs. Appreciate what you have and shut up.

Bottom Line: Coaching! From top to bottom. Ga. has the talent but likes the the coaching that young men need. I am sad to say that it will stay this way as long as we have the current staff. And it is not going to change. What school fires a coaching staff that wins 10 games a year? Even if they are only beating teams with losing records. MR is a very nice guy. But he does not have the fire to compete in the SEC. Nice guys finish last.
Yes, the biggest problem is the Swiss Cheese Defense. But, MR is to nice a guy to fire the whole defense coaching staff. It needs to be done.
I will watch the game Saturday for a while but when Fla. get up by 3 touchdowns I may have to turn it off. I hate to say it but here`s the score: Fla. 44 Ga. 9

What is the difference between Richt and Spurrier/Saban? Richt doesn’t seem to be equipped to make hard personnel decisions. I think this reflects his attempts to define himself by his religion…That’s his business, but what does Spurrier do with coaches he thinks can’t bring out the best in his players? And Saban, too. Richt/Garner are lazy. Bobo is like a kid with cerebral palsy playing skee ball, Grantham is the cartoon character, Tasmanian Devil. But as bad as it is, it is nowhere near the circus in Auburn……..

Richt is a good man and a good coach. That being said, he’s always going to be one step behind coaches such as, Saban, Meyer, Miles, Kelly, and especially Steve Spurrier! I hate to say it but for UGA to ever become an elite school again, Richt will have to go.

Fellow Dawgs the problem starts at the top- when was the last time Mark Richt showed any emotion and when was the last time one of his teams played with fire in their bellys. Yes the 2008 Sugar Bowl was the last time; ever since all the criticism for the celebration on that first TD against the Gators he reverted to this emotionless person on the sidelines. He jumped all over Grantham for showing some fire and we see what that has led too a bunch of players with no fire in their bellys on Defense getting pushed around by a a bunch of nobodys. Just like the SC game when they failed to make adjustments to help out their OL with Mr. Clowney a little too little too late, every year since he has been here our special teams have been a liability and yet HE stubbornly refuses to make necessary changes to correct. As a Christian change of heart/attitude is a very BIG part and is ESSENTIAL in surrendering your life to GOD, so in this sense maybe Coach Richt isn’t as far along in HIS walk with JESUS as he pretends. It also goes along with being a GREAT Headcoach and getting the most out of your teams in realizing what changes have to be made and then having the strength of character to swallow that false pride and make those changes. Hopefully this team will play with some real intensity and fire in their bellys this Saturday and they will surprise us by living up to expectations.

Let me get things straight. Do we want championships or settle for 10 win seasons? CMR just does not possess the “fear factor” of the likes of Saban, Spurrier, Miles and many other coaches. Something big has gone wrong with this team. You just don’t go from the 5th best defense, lose one starter, and proceed to stink every game up since. Bust some ass or situm on the pines and play the backups. Looks to me the starters are only concerned about next years draft order. Mistakes negate talent. Give me a hungry youngster over an underachieving starter. CMR is one hell of a man but he is not the coach that can take us to a national championship

CMR and his even keel personality is exactly what BOBBY BOWDON alluded to when UGA first hired him. I recall Bowdon’s concerns and I now understand them, within Context of his overall record and the wasted talent.

Who wouldn’t want to see a nice guy like Richt retained at UGA as a combo Team Chaplain/Recruiting Coordinator? He could also get a job as a Youth Minister at a local Church. We need a HC that can coach-up talented HS prospects and one that is not afraid to get in their faces when they don’t execute. Again, Richt is a very decent man, but can you imagine coaches like Saban, Miles,SOS clapping and feeling relieved after a “tough road win” at Ky? What about his stoic stare when SC jumped out and took an early 21-0 lead? As much as I dislike Urban “The Cryer” Meyer, at least he took it personal when UGA embarrassed him in 2007. He responded with blowouts in 2008 and 2009. That’s how UGA should be motivated against USCe and UF every year!

Your column today was right on. Richt will never get UGA into a national championship game regardless as to whether or not they win this weekend. He’s a nice guy and possibly a better than average coach. But he doesn’t have whatever it is that the great coaches that play for NCs have and never will. He’ll will coach at GA at least 10 more years and we GA fans can at least enjoy watching other SEC teams play for the NC. It’s too bad so many of our fans have such low expectations for a coach making over $3 million/year.

A loss this week and in a bowl game and I think McGarity makes his move. He wants a young, defensive minded coach. Smart is the guy. He may stay at Bama as rumors over there have Saban going to Dallas… then look at Dooley and Chris Peterson who McGarity loves. Also, I would not be surprised if the UGA money men came together and offered Muschamp an insane deal to come back to UGA. It’s already going to cost UGA about $9,000,000 to part ways with this staff.

If UGA loses Saturday, the time for change is now. McGarrity has the opportunity to make a statement to the college football world that mediocrity will not be tolerated in Athens any longer. 10 win seasons are great when you play a murderous schedule, not the cupcake schedules we’ve enjoyed the past couple of seasons. Losses to Central Florida and Colorado would have cost most other SEC coaches their jobs already. On paper, the record looks nice but UGA has been beaten by EVERY good team they’ve played in recent history. Let it be know right now to the next coach that you better get your team ready to play every week and compete at the highest level or your tenure will be very short. What a crock of dwag squeeze. You call a program with 53 arrests in the last four years a clean program, especially when those arrests are for DUI, failure to appear in court, illegal drugs, and beating up women? And that doesn’t include the hordes of dwag players found by the coaches to be using illegal drugs – those punks don’t get arrested, but they’re certainly not clean.
The bottom line is that a clean program doesn’t have all this crap going on.

UGA, and the Falcons have some awfully persnickety fans but… more than that, they also have what is undoubtedly the worst local supporting(?) sports media.
Imagine IF the Dawgs were, say 4-3. Also, lets put a 3-3 tag on the Falcs. In this case, there should be questions about coaching and talent and play. But, the Dawgs are 6-1 and the Falcs 6-0. You’d think that someone, somewhere would have the decency to say something like… good work, guys! We’re your fan and media base and we appreciate the efforts!
But… not here. Not in Atlanta. You can find better press about rush hour traffic on I-285 than you can on either the 6-0 Falcons of the NFL or the 6-1 Dawgs of the SEC.

The UF team from ‘07 was a very good football team. Their season was bookended by two BCS titles and their QB won the Heisman that year. The actual best player in college football was also on their team, Percy Harvin. They lost to the eventual #1 and 2 teams in the country, LSU and UGA. Lost to Aub at Aub on a last second FG, and a meaningless bowl game to Michigan by 2 points or something. LSU beat them on a game ending drive that included three fourth down conversions. By the way, UGA was 9 point underdogs the day of the “celebration”.

Don’t let the score bother you, they have some real talent on that team.” Then I saw where Northern Illinois beat them a few weeks later 45-3. They are 1-6 in the MAC East! Suspensions or not, we are supposed to destroy teams like them but they ran it right down our throats about the same as KY did….KY almost beat us after losing to Western KY! We get tons of 4-star athletes but fail to coach them once they arrive. We don’t wrap-up, play special teams or block well – all football fundamentals.

Murray knows that he needs to leave UGA after thus year. Next year, UGA will open 0-3 and struggle to win maybe 5 games. We will have two green QBs, with some returning decent receivers and decently experienced O line and running backs.
The 2013 D will be simply horrible and maybe worse than this edition.
In 2013 and 2014, UGA fans will long for a 10-2 year and a return to the good old days of 10-2.
UGA class of 71&3

He has had 2 SEC Titles in last 10yrs. o since the 80’s. He has been to 4. 0 since the 80’s. he has brung us all to think we are going to be an Elite Team. WE didnt have that with GOFF or DONNAN. So before you go trashing someone on here. GET YOUR FACTS!!! Before CMR came we was going no where. 10 wins is better than any other coach we had in last 20 yrs. SO be happy no IGNORANT!!
