Live from Lexington: UGA’s back in the ol’ SEC East chase

The team in blue is on the mind of Georgia, which plays a different team in blue tonight. (AP photo)

Lexington, Ky. – Two weeks after Georgia lost by four touchdowns in Columbia, the Bulldogs again have the opening they need. Yes, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. But if Georgia is good enough to beat you-know-who you-know-where next Saturday, the Bulldogs will stand atop the SEC East with only two winnable conference games (Ole Miss and Auburn) remaining.

Dept. of details: Georgia does need to beat Kentucky here tonight.

Dept. of reality: Georgia should beat Kentucky by 30 points.

Even if Kentucky were any good, I can’t imagine the Wildcats could stand with a Georgia team that’s coming off a bye and is sure to be enthused by the news that is Florida whipping South Carolina in Gainesville. Kentucky, however, is not any good. Even by UK standards, this is an awful assemblage. Its four SEC losses have come by 38, 21, 13 and 42 points. The 42-point loss at Arkansas was shortened to three quarters by a merciful thunderstorm.

Yes, I know that the Gator-Gamecock tussle isn’t officially over, but I’ve seen enough. Florida’s not losing today. South Carolina, which looked so good against Georgia, hasn’t looked the same since, and now the Gamecocks are pondering a rather epic slide: Could the same Chickens who were ranked No. 3 in the land only eight days ago wind up in Chick-fil-A Bowl?

And now you’re asking: If South Carolina wasn’t half as good as it l0oked against Georgia, what does that say about Georgia? Feel free to discuss among yourselves, while we await the 7 p.m. (or thereabouts) kickoff. And I thank you for your patronage.

Whoever’s coaching our linebackers is doing a terrible job. On some of these running plays they’re not even there.

Unbelievable. There are high school teams that are better prepared than UGA.

I think the issue is the strength program, we are getting blown off the ball constantly.

UGA’s D is way too aggressive. Always looking to “blow up” someone, instead of containing them.

Jonathan Jenkins almost intercepted a throwback-to-the-QB but the QB caught it.

And now the Cats punch it in.

It’s the coaching and the quarterbacking. Georgia lacks leadership to say the least. This is actually hilarious. But. come to think of it, the defense has elements of the Marx brothers.

i have always been a mark richt supporter. I love his ethics but motivating his players and the coaches that work for him makes me believe that Georgia should get rid of him.

What’s going to take to get Richt fired? UGA is not up for this game after the complete A$$ whipping they took two weeks ago. How can that be. So frustrating to watch.

Grantham coaches the linebackers whoever was asking i know he is jarvis jones position coach. yea the lb’s are getting caught in the wash in the middle and the rb is just running four or five yards befor a safety comes up and makes the tackle bc the lb is running himself out of the play.

3 more pts for Kentucky and they’ll have matched their season high for pts scored in one game against an SEC opponent … and there’s plenty of game still left
