Live from Lexington: UGA’s back in the ol’ SEC East chase

The team in blue is on the mind of Georgia, which plays a different team in blue tonight. (AP photo)

Lexington, Ky. – Two weeks after Georgia lost by four touchdowns in Columbia, the Bulldogs again have the opening they need. Yes, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. But if Georgia is good enough to beat you-know-who you-know-where next Saturday, the Bulldogs will stand atop the SEC East with only two winnable conference games (Ole Miss and Auburn) remaining.

Dept. of details: Georgia does need to beat Kentucky here tonight.

Dept. of reality: Georgia should beat Kentucky by 30 points.

Even if Kentucky were any good, I can’t imagine the Wildcats could stand with a Georgia team that’s coming off a bye and is sure to be enthused by the news that is Florida whipping South Carolina in Gainesville. Kentucky, however, is not any good. Even by UK standards, this is an awful assemblage. Its four SEC losses have come by 38, 21, 13 and 42 points. The 42-point loss at Arkansas was shortened to three quarters by a merciful thunderstorm.

Yes, I know that the Gator-Gamecock tussle isn’t officially over, but I’ve seen enough. Florida’s not losing today. South Carolina, which looked so good against Georgia, hasn’t looked the same since, and now the Gamecocks are pondering a rather epic slide: Could the same Chickens who were ranked No. 3 in the land only eight days ago wind up in Chick-fil-A Bowl?

And now you’re asking: If South Carolina wasn’t half as good as it l0oked against Georgia, what does that say about Georgia? Feel free to discuss among yourselves, while we await the 7 p.m. (or thereabouts) kickoff. And I thank you for your patronage.

THis defense absolutely drives me crazy bc i know the talent is there but they are constantly out of position and are soft and weak minded. i thought grantham solved the problem this weak but i think this is the worse our defense has looked all yr. We got worse and this is not jarvis fault bc he would be on the edge anyway they are doing this right at you john jenkins and geathers right at yall

How many of those touchdowns against a Top 10 team? Murray has the most useless record in UGA history.

A touchdown, so what? Keep things in perspective. This is KY for God’s sake! The way GA played the 1st quarter, a team like FL will put the game out of reach in the 1st 15 minutes. We have not had a clutch, quality team in years…please, please, please change out the coaching staff.

What’s that? Morgan’s third pat miss? Good grief!! can’t remember a UGA kicker that missed that many In a career.

Funny. A UGA kickoff coverage guy is running down the field and a KY player has his jersey with both arms fully extended. How can an official not see that.

Did you notice how well LSU adjusted to A&M.? We could have had Chavous if CMR hadn’t kept Martinez for so long. This bunch of bozos couldn’t adjust during the game if their lives depended on it.

Actual quote from Richt on 790 the zone the wee of the South Carolina game. “Well I don’t really worry too much about motivating the players, I sorta let them do that themselves. I worry about getting them in position to make plays.” Mark, you validated with one sentence what we fans who understand football have known all along. That stoic, flatline demeanor of yours spreads like a cancer through the team and we end up with this.My God I can’t take any more.

What are our linebackers doing?

In the 3-4, linebackers must defend the run.

They don’t know what to expect from KY.

Richt must really not care about Special Teams
1. Mitchell constantly returns. Every time he messes something up
2. Punt Return never calls a fair catch. Guess nobody taught them they could
3. We have two kickers. One has a higher percentage on kicks over 50 yards than he does on PATs. Yet we always use him.

dawgs01

October 20th, 2012

THey tell them to fair catch bc that is easy coaching bc if you return it you got to coach the guy on when to return it when to faircatch it and how to hit the hole and which sideline to attack and how to make guys miss so we just have them fair catch it that the easy way out
