Live from Columbia: Georgia aims to bag the Big Chicken

I'm guessing this Gamecock fancies his team's chances, too. Other Gamecocks do. (AP photo)

Columbia, S.C. – Big game here. Maybe you’ve heard.

Listening to the pregame show on the radio riding in — and here let me note that it took Team AJC nearly 2 1/2 hours to negotiate the final five miles — was to hear a heaping helping of Gamecock bravado. Every interview (including one with the famous South Carolinian Darius “Hootie” Rucker) went thusly: Interviewee paid tribute to Georgia’s talent, then opined that there was no way the home side could lose.

I think the home side can lose. I picked South Carolina to win this game several months ago. (I also picked Georgia to finish 11-1 and still win the SEC East and the SEC title.) But Georgia has been the better team to date, and I say this largely because, as a Kentucky graduate, I’m leery of any team that trails the Wildcats by 10 points after two quarters.

Beyond that, I’ve got nothing that you don’t already know. Whoever wins will be in Position A to claim the East — yes, I realize Florida is again looming — and I’m fairly confident someone will win here. I invite you to join me as we ride along tonight, and I can only hope the game itself moves faster than the inbound traffic. And, as ever, I thank you in advance.

So Frank…..by your analogy, UGA’s stock has been down since ‘05….and now it’s 7 years later….Still holding onto that stock

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have money to throw away like that…..

Need the fans support. Not time to give up because of this beatdown. McGarity must react quickly. May be time for Hutson and some other backup Olinemen. Also want Malcome back in and TEs catching balls. Sure didn’t see them blocking Clowney tonight. Horrible effort tonight..

Heard It All, don’t be so fast on that call. Jerry Jones will be knocking on Saban’s door with a big fat checkbook in hand willing to pay him double what the inbred school is currently paying. Word is already out that Jones wants Saban for the Cowboys.

This team reminds me of last year’s Atlanta Falcons. What a difference a coordinator can make. And what scares me most about Coach Smith and CMR? Their stubborn resistance to make obvious change, to the detriment of the TEAM.

your team WAS dominated in every phase of the game tonight…can you correct me? Did the ‘water girls’ deliver Gin instead of g-ade? The dwagz were beaten in EVERY phase of the game…it was beautiful. THWG…they may drop out of the top 10…that means that anACC team may be rated ahead of ugag…never know…hey, you’llk probably play Iowa ina BCS game and get pounded there too….nothin but love…

cmr is playing you leghumpers like Madoff at an investment seminar. 3 year extension at 3 large a year. Too funny, After you pay cmr’s guaranteed contract you can’t even afford to get Goff to walk away from the used single wide lot.

I was in the UGA Football Program from 1984 to 1989. I was there from 1984 to 1989. I was there 4 yrs with Coach Dooley and 1 year with Coach Goff! I am the Prensident of the Coffe County Bulldog Club and a UGA Letterman!!! Coach Donnan Lived and DIED with Quiency Carter! Coach Ritch is going to live and DIE with Arron Murray. However, Hudson Mason is “THE BEST QB” !!! Coach Richt can not win the big game!!!

I just relived that God awful Alabama game back in 08!!!!!!

It was way worse than that, at least we did come out after the half against Bama and score 30,against their starters
and yes Saban told the sideline girl at the half he was NOT playing his subs in the second half.
This ranks as one of the worst losses ever by the Dawgs, and I’ve been watching them since Kirby Moore was QB in the mid sixties.

I thought that maybe Richt was getting the old magic back (like in the 2000’s) — but I was fooled. I like Richt, but unfortunately if we don’t replace him and Bobo we’ll never win a championship. Richt just doesn’t know how to get the team ready for the big games. And why does Murray always get so tight in the big games — the announcer said he couldn’t get any sleep running up to this game (not a good sign). Well, the only thing we can hope for the rest of the way is that we find a way to beat FLA, Auburn and GA Tech — there’s always satisfaction in beating those teams.

Full disclaimer, I’m an Alabama fan. So…

1. I’m glad Alabama doesn’t have to go to South Carolina this year. Seemed like an incredible atmosphere. It would take a great effort from a very good team to win a game against a team like that on a night like that.
2. There is NO WAY a very good team loses 35-7 with that kind of showing and, moreover, completely giving up half way through the third quarter.

At this point, UGA can’t claim to be a “very good team,” much less a great team.

At least we're not 2-4

Who is your team Spartacus? The fun of college football is that it is as almost as much fun to pull against your rivals as it is to pull for your team…..presumably that is why you are on the UGA blog….jackleg.

I swear I just want him to show some emotion some fire, show that he cares about us getting stomped!! You know the first words out of his mouth this week will be that we can still attain our goals of winning the SEC East with just two losses by South Carolina and us winning out. I’m tired of our coach saying that his goals are just winning the division. Does Saban think like this? No….he goes for the National Championship every year and isn’t satisfied with anything less…. But not us all we want to be is a top 25 team….well tonight we arn’t event that……Disgusted

@2-4….my team is UGA, despite these lean years. But I could care less whether the Trade School on North Ave or the $emi-Pro Auburn team wins or loses when my team gets totally disintegrated and embarrassed on national TV. It does not make me feel one iota better!!

Take care or your own house….and everything takes care of itself later. I have never understood UGA fans obsession with GT. It’s like comparing a high school team to a middle school team

I think the Dawg defense got exposed tonight. Even with the All American J Jones , Rambo and Jenkins. The Carolina Offense ran all over you and Shaw only attempted 10 passes and comp 6 for 2 tds. Latimore was more offense than Gurley and Marshal combined. Bad day for the dawgs.
