Live from Columbia: Georgia aims to bag the Big Chicken

Columbia, S.C. – Big game here. Maybe you’ve heard.
Listening to the pregame show on the radio riding in — and here let me note that it took Team AJC nearly 2 1/2 hours to negotiate the final five miles — was to hear a heaping helping of Gamecock bravado. Every interview (including one with the famous South Carolinian Darius “Hootie” Rucker) went thusly: Interviewee paid tribute to Georgia’s talent, then opined that there was no way the home side could lose.
I think the home side can lose. I picked South Carolina to win this game several months ago. (I also picked Georgia to finish 11-1 and still win the SEC East and the SEC title.) But Georgia has been the better team to date, and I say this largely because, as a Kentucky graduate, I’m leery of any team that trails the Wildcats by 10 points after two quarters.
Beyond that, I’ve got nothing that you don’t already know. Whoever wins will be in Position A to claim the East — yes, I realize Florida is again looming — and I’m fairly confident someone will win here. I invite you to join me as we ride along tonight, and I can only hope the game itself moves faster than the inbound traffic. And, as ever, I thank you in advance.

Jarvis jones has not done anything since he beat up on that mizzou tackle that probably won’t even be playing next yr. He did not do anything tonight or against tenn and vandy. Oh dear. It appears Aaron Murray’s chances of winning the Heisman Trophy have been seriously impaired. Whatever happened? That nasty Ole Ball Coach refused to let his team read the ajc and find out how good those fabulous Bulldogs are. Several of the ajc’s high power scribes said that there was something Mark Richt could teach Steve Spurrier. It appears there’s something Steve could teach Mark: How to win. Next week South Carolina will be ranked No 5 and UGA No. 6. Life just isn’t fair.

@ Bulldawg. I agree. Murray can be pretty good. The MAIN problem is we get beat in the trenches. We’re not physical enough, tough enough, not smooth in our assignments, get out done in technique. We’re just ate up everywhere. Talent and personnel are not lacking. It’s the crew running this show.

So, I cant help but notice all the loyal dawg fans taking digs at GT and claiming they are still so much better than Tech.
Ok, granted. You are better than Tech,
But, compare the NFL talent that comes through your door as compared to Tech.
Shouldn’t you be better? Is at really that consoling to you to be better than a team that barely has any players that could be recruited at your school?
Oh and, less we forget…..
Georgia Tech has a national championship a lot more recently than the Dawgs, and with Spurrier, Sabon, Miles etc. in the SEC now, I dont see that changing anytime soon.

We were 10 and 4 last year. SEC East winner. CMR loses 1 game and all the haters come out.

Another idiot who is spitting out the same drivel. This football program is 2nd/3rd tier as long as Mark Richt is the coach. This man has single-handedly allowed Florida and South Carolina to surpass his program. This man must be fired and fired soon. he should have been let go 2 seasons ago. All that talent and resources gone to waste. This football program has not even sniffed the title game (11-2 does not count, win all of your games). Yet they recruit the same talent as all of the other big boys. Losses to UCF and Boise St. within a short time frame should have been the clue. As if being 2-9 against Florida was a clue already.

@kerryb: Georgia rarely lost gams because the previous head coach loaded our program with top tier QBs that had leadership qualties. David Greene and DJ Shockley were different level players than this fraud from Florida that Richt has handed the program to. The guy will not last 12 months in the NFL.
