Live from Columbia: Georgia aims to bag the Big Chicken

Columbia, S.C. – Big game here. Maybe you’ve heard.

Listening to the pregame show on the radio riding in — and here let me note that it took Team AJC nearly 2 1/2 hours to negotiate the final five miles — was to hear a heaping helping of Gamecock bravado. Every interview (including one with the famous South Carolinian Darius “Hootie” Rucker) went thusly: Interviewee paid tribute to Georgia’s talent, then opined that there was no way the home side could lose.

I think the home side can lose. I picked South Carolina to win this game several months ago. (I also picked Georgia to finish 11-1 and still win the SEC East and the SEC title.) But Georgia has been the better team to date, and I say this largely because, as a Kentucky graduate, I’m leery of any team that trails the Wildcats by 10 points after two quarters.

Beyond that, I’ve got nothing that you don’t already know. Whoever wins will be in Position A to claim the East — yes, I realize Florida is again looming — and I’m fairly confident someone will win here. I invite you to join me as we ride along tonight, and I can only hope the game itself moves faster than the inbound traffic. And, as ever, I thank you in advance.

A few obvious conclusions to draw from this debacle:

1. Steve Spurrier really is a genius.

2. Mark Richt really is a 3rd rate coaching wannabe who will never win the big games.

3. Todd Grantham is a grotesque, overstuffed joke. Someone please remind me how much he’s getting paid.

4. When Richt recruits low class morons who have a penchant for booze and drugs, he’s never going to win.

5. Everything about UGA is a joke.

But hey… WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!!

Bravo!! But we at least scored!!

Really - # 5?

I guess there i no sense in piling on with the other comments. The reality is that Georgia needs a new coaching staff to see if they can do better than this bunch. A lot of us saw this 3-4 years ago but Georgia is slow to change and here we are… 35-0. Yea its just one game but this has happened before against better teams and not this bad. Guys its time for a new direction.

This is the first time in my 61 years I have heard the announcers say that Georgia fans should basically be ashamed of their football program, and I agree with them sadly.

Amen BigDave. Richt”s 1990s FSU heyday offense won’t work against the SEC Big Boys. It’s a Man’s game as Ray Lewis always says. If UGA are men they have been exposed as weaklings under Richt. Congrats Carolina beat LSU !

RNB… I want McGarity gone too. He is Mark’s best friend with this joke schedule he has left us with. We can win 9 or 10 games every year, but we will never beat the top teams in the SEC.

I’ve never seen such hair-pulling in a fan base. It’s just a stupid football game. No one in college history could beat SC tonight. A magnificent job by Spurrier. His players just steam-rollered UGA. But you guys deserve to lose. Wow, embarrassing.

Kirby Smart is the obvious choice. He’s a GA boy and he hopefully brings a physicality and toughness and emphasis on winning the war in the trenches and playing defense back to us. ENOUGH of the prima dona,” just hang out and party in Athens and wait for my NFL payday to get here, I could care less about Georgia” attitude.

I was wondering why Derrick Henry would come to Alabama with the log jam at running back, but I simply understand that now. He wants to win. He decommitted from Georgia, and did not select Tennessee simply because he wants to win. Nick Saban would be dead on the sideline had one of his teams came out like Georgia did tonight. He would never allow it, so it’s hard to say that, but Henry’s decision is looking smarter and smarter, so I feel ashamed for second guessing his decision.

I did not watch the game but instead went to a wedding and started watching at the beginning of the 4th quarter. I did make good money off of this game – it was an easy bet. Georgia is now 0-10 against ranked teams in the last two years. Georgia is the most penalized team in the SEC (I hope the whole game wasn’t like what I saw to start the 4th) Can anybody explain to me why Mark Richt is still coaching at UGA. Some things are so freakin obvious. No discipline, no organization great athletes but no coaching. What a continual embarrassment when they play anybody good.

Has anyone seen this movie before?
Same ole sh*t – and this is what we will continue to get as long CMR is in charge. The players do not fear him, so they do not respect him. Does anyone think a Saban coached team shows up and plays like this? Offer Kirby Smart the HC position tomorrow. Can’t wait to hear about how we still have a chance to win the east…..what a joke. This program is a joke and I for one am embarrassed.

If UGAly could only play unranked teams, they would be Natl Champs every year! At least tonite’s thumping, combined with the thumping FLA will give them, will prevent them from getting pounded by Alabama at the dome! The good news is that UGAly will only play 1 more ranked team so they will finish with 2 losses! Ps, granthem, like his players, is WAY OVERRATED!
