3 points regarding Georgia Tech, the first concerning Vad Lee

Vad Lee on Saturday's 79-yard non-scoring excursion. (AJC photo by Johnny Crawford)

1. Vad Lee might just be the top-end talent Georgia Tech otherwise lacks. Granted, it was one game against Presbyterian, but still: In the the third quarter alone, the redshirt freshman Lee authored the sixth-longest pass completion in Tech annals (82 yards to Jeff Greene) and the longest non-scoring run (79 yards) in school history. Lee isn’t apt to become the starting quarterback anytime soon — he’s still too raw — but he at least gives Paul Johnson a change-of-pace option.

2. For one night, the big plays were back. Tech’s longest gain from scrimmage at Virginia Tech was 22 yards. It had eight plays of 39 yards or longer Saturday night, four in the blowout third quarter. Again, this was against Presbyterian. But not since the record-setting Kansas game (66 points, 768 yards) of last September had the Jackets’ offense displayed such a separation gear (59 points, 712 yards). Johnson’s spread option is a different animal when the yards come in chunks.

3. The Jackets responded to the Virginia Tech loss in a mostly positive way. True, they fumbled four times (losing three), but you can’t have it all. Everything else was impressive enough to send this team into a key fortnight — home games against Coastal division brethren Virginia and Miami, both of whom beat Tech last season — feeling better about themselves. If the Jackets are to hang close enough to have a chance to catch Virginia Tech, they have to win these next two.

How do you get better? You play and practice with quality opponents. The PCs and Fla.Atlantics and eventually Sav.St., will one day become Louisiana Monroes. Sav.St. stadium holds @7,000-10,000 fans. They have to bleed for the money if they want to improve. No matter how you look at it, GT helped PC & Fla.St. helped Sav.St. Growing pains are ugly.

OJF….I remember all of them. Let’s not forget Aunt Fanny’s Cabin & Johnny Reb’s with Piano Red playing for Sunday lunch once in a while. Fried chicken & biscuits to die for, with strawberry preserves better that my GrandMa made in her kitchen. Lazy Susan tables loaded with gooooood food.

@ Tech Engineer……you are right, but neither should UGA be playing GA Southern

You just had to take a swipe a Georgia huh? You’re smart enough to know why schools schedule these games and ALL majors do it,not just Georgia and Tech…Tune ups for the big schools $$$$ for the smaller ones..

OJF….I know of 1 in Macon. Old Time Country Buffet on US129 out of Macon toward Gray. They even use fresh corn on the cob, no frozen cobettes. Okra frid in a black iron skillet. Every thing they serve is fresh, except for candied yams and they dress them up to their recipe. Delicious & reasonably priced.

How much fun is it going to be to watch Vad blossom as a top notch D1 QB and have the reins of this offense? 3 throws last night, all on the money. He’s a special talent!

Well, I have tried 4 stinking times to post a comment, rewording each time. Has NOT worked yet. Nothing vulgar or offensive. I will wait 5 minutes. If Nothing is cleared. I will do it one word at a time. The clock starts now.

glad to see Laskey break out but the speed is lacking at the BBack position, After seeing Dwyer, before him Tashard Choice..its a big difference now…

if TW is only going to have a couple of big games, I hope they are VA and Miami especially the Canes, to lose to them at home would be a disgrace

hope Vad can come around sooner than anyone expected, it won’t be Presbyterian defense up against our receivers the next two Saturdays

I would expect TW to get the starts against VA and Miami with Vad getting more playing time depending on how the games go. If things go as I would hope the MTSU game would be perfect for Vad’s 1st start.

Rejoice all you fellow jacket fans!!!! With Lee and Laskey , in our future , we are back! Remember this day , it marks the return of double digit winning seasons echoing back to Lil Joe Hamilton , ask Notre Dame (gator bowl). Next 2 , in the bag, Virginia looked horrible until 4 minutes to go , Miami is “thug u” with NO heart!

there is no reason why we cant run the table until we get to the dwags. we will be our own worst enemy.

they have some awesome talent on that team. no doubt. as with any rivalry game we will have a chance against the dwags but at this point it appears to be slim.

The problem right now is Tech does not have the triple option, they have the double option. Only A Back and B Back provide a threat – the QB does not offer any threat either on the ground or through the air. At least Vad would give a third threat for the defense to worry about.

VA should have lost yesterday and the U looked lost. The U lost so much talent with graduation and defections after all the info surfaced on the recruiting violations and it’s going to take Golden a few years to make up that talent drain. VA going to have to turn things way up if they don’t want to get run next Saturday.

You got it – TW was so little a threat on Saturday that he ran 9 times for 97 yards and 1 TD and went 7 of 11 for 146 yards and 1 TD, TW was so bad that CPJ pulled him half way through the 3rd quarter with GT only leading by 31 points.

Ol Jacket…I agree. Food is awsome. And there are many forums where you can blog about it and not look an idiot. After a football article is not one of them. Or do you not understand the concept of a blog? Like I could say tech runs a high school offense, which actually isn’t true because most of the high schools in the country have moved on from it. That would be an appropriate comment on this blog. Tech fans would all bash me for saying it, but at least i’m in the right forum. Why don’t you go on over to kens blog with 14 GT because apparently he’s never complained about it.

Hey smoption why don’t you stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Most of what I blog about relates to Tech and/or college football. Who are you to tell me or anyone else what to talk about? You are nothing but a troll and if you think this is a high school offense you know very little about the complexity of the offense. Like I said earlier, troll hard my friend
