Game by game: How UGA will go 11-1 and win the SEC East

Spoiler alert: This will be Georgia's lone regular-season loss. (Photo courtesy of The State)

Spoiler alert: This will be Georgia's lone regular-season loss. (Photo courtesy of The State)

Sept. 1, Buffalo, noon. Last year’s opener was against the Boise State Broncos, and for Georgia it didn’t go well. This year’s opener brings the Buffalo Bulls (not to be confused with the Buffalo Bills) to Sanford Stadium. This should work out rather better. The Bulls were 3-9 last season, 2-10 in 2010. They played Tennessee in October and lost by three touchdowns, and the Vols wound up 5-7. In sum, no sweat. Bulldogs win.

Sept. 8, at Missouri, 7:45 p.m. Sweat will be required in Week 2. This is the Tigers’ inaugural game in their new conference, and Memorial Stadium, forecasts coach Gary Pinkel, “will be pretty cramped.” Mizzou has lost only one home game the past two seasons, that to No. 4 Oklahoma State last year. In 2010 it beat No. 1 Oklahoma in Columbia. This is a very dangerous and losable game for the visitors. That said … Bulldogs win.

Sept. 15, Florida Atlantic, 7:30 p.m. A less dangerous game. The Owls were 1-11 last season. Their first three games were against Florida, Michigan State and Auburn — all of which Georgia would play, two of which it would beat. Florida Atlantic lost the three games by an aggregate 98 points. Not much else to say about this one except that FAU’s coach is Carl Pelini, whose older brother Bo coaches Nebraska. Bulldogs win.

Sept. 22, Vanderbilt, TBA. The lasting memory of last season’s Georgia-Vandy game was of Bulldogs defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s postgame squabble with Commodores coach James Franklin. The Bulldogs nearly squandered a 16-point lead, and Franklin wasn’t pleased with Georgia’s decorum. Franklin got mileage out of his we’re-nobody’s-doormat message, but now his team must play in Athens. Bulldogs win.

Sept. 29, Tennessee, TBA. Big year for the Volunteers. Bigger year for coach Derek Dooley, who’ s 11-14 at Tennessee, 4-12 in SEC play. The Vols already will have played North Carolina State at the Georgia Dome and Florida at Neyland Stadium, so there’s a chance they could be ranked when they arrive in Athens. There’s also a chance they could be 2-2 and playing to stay above .500. If so, the Dooley Watch will be on. Bulldogs win.

Oct. 6, at South Carolina, TBA. Both teams should exit September unbeaten. (South Carolina has a tricky Thursday night opener at Vanderbilt.) Both should be ranked in/near the top five. South Carolina beat Georgia in Columbia in 2010 and won the SEC East, beat Georgia in Athens last season and didn’t win the East. Gamecocks fans are convinced theirs was the better team in 2011. A big-time game in a big-time setting. Bulldogs lose.

Oct. 20, at Kentucky, TBA. With its front-loaded schedule, Georgia benefits from a week off. It also benefits from having to resume hostilities against Kentucky, which has stalled under Joker Phillips. The UK alum is 4-12 in SEC play, 11-14 overall. Coming off its loss to South Carolina, Georgia again is in the position of having to win out in SEC play and hope the Gamecocks stumble twice. They did last season. Bulldogs win.

Oct. 27, Florida (in Jacksonville), 3:30 p.m. Under Mark Richt, Georgia has never beaten Florida two years running. (Then again, Georgia under Richt has beaten the Gators only three times.) But he is 1-0 against Will Muschamp, which is semi-significant. Richt was 0-1 against former Florida coaches Steve Spurrier, Ron Zook and Urban Meyer. Muschamp might well get it going against his alma mater, but not just yet. Bulldogs win.

Nov. 3, Ole Miss, TBA. How bad were the Rebels in 2011? They were 2-10 overall, 0-8 in SEC play. They lost to LSU and Alabama by the collective score of 104-10. They lost to Vanderbilt, long the standard for SEC misery, by 23 points. They lost to Kentucky by 17. They lost to Mississippi State, itself a raging disappointment, by four touchdowns. But they have a new coach, having gone from a Nutt (Houston) to a Freeze (Hugh). Bulldogs win.

Nov. 10, at Auburn, TBA. In Gene Chizik’s first three seasons at Auburn, he won a BCS championship while compiling a losing record against Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and Georgia. The Tigers have new offensive and defensive coordinators, Scot Loeffler having replaced Gus Malzahn and Brian VanGorder (formerly of UGA, Georgia Southern and the Falcons) having succeeded Ted Roof. There is as yet no replacement for Cam Newton. Bulldogs win.

Nov. 17, Georgia Southern, TBA. This could either be a great or a grievous bit of scheduling. On the one hand, Georgia could have just clinched the SEC East title at Auburn and might be ripe for the picking, and the Eagles won’t bring anything short of maximum effort. On the other, playing Georgia Southern should help the Bulldogs prepare for their next game, coach Jeff Monken having apprenticed under Paul Johnson. Bulldogs win.

Nov. 24, Georgia Tech, TBA. The first three meetings between Georgia and the Johnson-coached Tech were ferocious. Last season was a relative snooze. Playing without its best backs, Georgia still won easily. That seemed an indication that a narrowed gap — before Johnson arrived, Georgia under Richt had never lost to Tech — has again begun to widen. We’ll see this year if that was the cold truth or a red herring. Bulldogs win.

Has anybody seen THEIR schedule? hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Everyone has and pretty much everyone agrees that it is tougher then UGA’s schedule. UGA might only play one ranked team this year.

They should go 12-0 because they are not playing anyone! I mean really! This team is playing the majority of the season with teams that are not even close in their league. It is imbarrissing!

Got UGA beating the 10 unranked teams, losing the 2 games to the ranked teams like they do every year, so 10-2. 10 meaningless wins.

9 Losses in a Row to teams making any top 25 poll - after Georgie tek # 13 in 2009. 7 Losses in a Row to teams making any Top 10 - not since beating Auburn # 9 in 2006. 9 Losses in a row to SEC teams who put up a winning SEC Record - starting with Kentuc

“If you go undefeated in the SEC you will play in the national title game regardless.”
__________________________________________________________________

No, if you are given a soft SEC schedule, and do not play any elite teams out-of-conference either, the voters all will be saying that we did not beat anyone, like you always did every year about Boise State, and as everyone did in 2002 with us winning a Down SEC 2002 with only 1 other SEC team ranked in the Coaches’ Poll 2002 a 4-Loss Auburn.

No matter what we do with this schedule, we will not be playing in the national championship game. We have no business in the national championship game. We do not belong in the national championship game. To be the best, you have to beat the best. 2008 we played LSU and Alabama ? Excuse me. LSU was no stinking good in 2008, not making any top 25 poll. LSU put up in 2008 a 3-5 SEC Record. That is supposed to be great that we beat a 3-5 SEC team ? Instead, 2008 is marked by us winning the Fulmer Cup National Championship, despite being ranked # 1 pre-season by every single solitary poll. Then, we lost on National TV to every single team 2008 we played who beat any team who made any top 25. We did not have a great season 2008. In fact, to many the Downward Spiral of this Football Program actually began with the Alabama 0-31 at halftime game, when we lost. Then, we Lost to Florida. Then, we Lost to Georgie tek. We played 3 teams in 2008, a 14-game season in which we only got to play 13 games. 3 of the 13 games were against opponents who beat a top 25 team. In those 3 games, we gave up consecutive points of 31, 42 and 29. When we got ranked pre-season # 1 by the AP Poll, 22 of our players went out to celebrate on the town, and 1 even beat up a hospital.

If it is a 14-game season, and it is, and you go 9-4, you didn’t earn the berth to play in your conference’s championship game, or play in a weak conference who cannot even muster such a game while the top teams are vying for berths in the national championship game.

I have read all these posts. DISNEYdawgs.com even attempting to come in here and make such a Lame Excuse for 11 games this season against teams who average 4.8 wins and 1 game only against any team who made any top 25 poll, and that 1 team has to play LSU, Arkansas, Georgia and Clemson while we play only them, a 9-4 team or 10-3 at best South Carolina team who has never ever won anything in football. Loud ? Who cares how loud you are at Williams-Brice Stadium voted the # 55 Stadium in the Nation this weekend, while Sanford Stadium is ranked # 4 best college football stadium this weekend, and while Bobby Dodd Stadium – named for a college-drop-out – is ranked the # 45 college football stadium.

Vince Lombardi, Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” most certainly are not. Leaving in your QB to throw 5 TD passes vs nearly defunct WAC 4-9 New Mexico State, does not impress me. In fact, it is a problem. An issue. You know ? Like the 22 transfers-out we discussed all 2011, at which point you told me it was a 1-year window. A bubble. A cleaning of the house. That all is well now, you said, bragging of 10 wins in a row 2011 against not 1 team who made any top 25 poll, not 1 team who made any top 10 and not 1 SEC team who put up a winning SEC record.

30 Transfers-out now who should be playing 2012 for Mark Richt and what did I just read ? Replay of all your comments all last season. That we got rid of the bad apples. Really ? Think there are not 10 more – just gone – from the 34 in 2013 ? How many Suspensions will there be actually Saturday, who will not play Saturday and then will play ? You may have forgotten 5 failed the NCAA Drug Test Spring Practice. I did not. We all know the answer is not 4 Suspensions Saturday. And, what’s with Mark Richt not calling the Police on the over $ 500 cash and other valuables stolen from their own teammates this off-season ? Those are 3 more Felony Arrests this off-season too.

Who’d we beat ?

9 Losses in a Row to teams making any top 25 poll - after Georgie tek # 13 in 2009. 7 Losses in a Row to teams making any Top 10 - not since beating Auburn # 9 in 2006. 9 Losses in a row to SEC teams who put up a winning SEC Record - starting with KY 200

I am so pleased to read all these glowing comments about a team who doesn’t even play any top football teams 2012, and how we’re going to do so well that we can all book our hotels in Miami to eat the great Cuban food in Miami. Yuk, besides the Cuban Sandwich. You act as if having the bad press about Branden Smith being arrested in Alabama, serving his sentence and paying his fine somehow never happened because what was found in his vehicle was not his own personal but just the guy whom he was driving to Panama Beach. Yeah, it happened and he paid a fine for it.

Bad Press about beating up a girl, you first tried to say he did not hit, who plead guilty and who hit her in front of many witnesses. Now Sanders Commings is Suspended. Suspended for 2 games, Buffalo bulls and Mizzou.

Bad Press with Chase Vasser, a linebacker who hasn’t played much, arrested on DUI. A DUI I point out to you again which happened in May 2012, and was held back from the press who did not find out about until now, August 2012.

Chris Sanders, since kicked-off his next team too, Sanford Seay and Nick Marshall were kicked-off the team in February for stealing over $ 500 cash and other valuable; but the Police Chief stated that no one at The University of Georgia even so much as called the Police to report the crime. More bad press this off-season.

Then, the home games are not even sold out for Buffalo bulls or Florida Atlantic, our first 2 home games for our seasons’ tickets – thank you Greg McGarity for that, sir. Not 1 game all season at home to look forward to. This bad press will continue throughout the season, no matter what Excuses you attempt to cover up this schedule with all of 2012. This will be an issue December 1 after the 4 pm SEC Championship Game this season. This Bad Press will Never go away, not even in 2013, when we have none of the defense back and then play Alabama when they are good. Playing LSU when they put up a 3-5 Record in-conference is not a measure of this football program. We’re Top 10 All-Time in 1-A Wins. We are supposed to beat those cruddy teams. You get no extra credit for beating them 2008. You earn a demerit for even attempting to claim how great we are 2008 for beating such a lousy 3-5 SEC team.

5 of our players failed The NCAA Drug Test During Spring Practice. Those names are not going to be released. We have to scour the Participation Charts for Buffalo bulls and determine who did and who did not play against Buffalo who then plays after that. This bad press will continue on game-day when we should be getting all hyped-up about our prospects for 2012. A 1-year window of us starting # 6 pre-season. We will not start 2013 # 6.

Cootie Harrow, whom Mark Richt should never have given a scholarship to, flunked out this off-season. This Bad Press, too, shall continue for Years and Years when no other coach offered Isaiah Crowell’s running mate # 136 Safety in the nation a scholarship to college but Mark Richt.

30. A total of 30 players have transferred-out of this program whom Mark Richt signed to play here 2012. We’re down to 67 scholarship recruits plus 1 transfer-in in our best chance 2012, starting # 6 and playing no one.

Isaiah Crowell, this off-season, was named Co # 1 Starter at Tailback by Mark Richt after the Spring Practice G-Day Game. Then, he is arrested as well. He states 5 were in his vehicle and that the reason the vehicle wreaked of drugs according to the Police, was because they had just returned from a bar in downtown Athens whom Red & Black Writers should not have named. This Bad Press shall Never End. And, what of the other 5 under-age kids whose excuse for all This Bad Press is that others at the Athens Bar were the ones doing the drugs. Were drug tests and alcohol tests run on all 5 of them, football players on the team mind you, when they returned to The University of Georgia with this Bad Press ?

9 Losses in a Row to teams making any top 25 poll - after Georgie tek # 13 in 2009. 7 Losses in Row to teams making any Top 10 - not since beating Auburn # 9 in 2006. 9 Losses in a row to SEC teams who put up a winning SEC Record - starting with KY 2007

August 27th, 2012
3:39 am

The football players in Isaiah Crowell’s vehicle were under-age, and their excuse for reeking of drugs is that they were at a bar in downtown Athens.

How many games are these 5 suspended for ?

The only anticipation about Buffalo bulls game is who is and who is not suspended of the remaining 67 scholarship recruits plus 1 transfer-in, because it would be 68 scholarship recruits plus a transfer-in but the NCAA has still declared that Kolton Houston cannot play 2012 either for performance enhancing drugs which remain in his blood, like no one knows how to get it out of his blood.

The actual number is probably about 59 scholarship recruits are going to suit-up in Game 1, our best chance starting # 6 and playing 1 opponent who made any top 25 poll and 11 opponents who average 4.8 wins, then having to face the nation’s top teams worn out, hoping for no injuries obviously which isn’t going to happen and you know it, when those opponents will be at full strength less their injured heroes.

______________________________________________________
THE BAD PRESS IS ALL BEHIND US NOW MARK RICHT, RIGHT.
______________________________________________________

Aaron Murray will be left in to play all but maybe the 4th quarter so he can run up stats for a drop NFL Draft Pick. The whole entire team is totally wiped-out from the Bad Press this entire off-season from Hell. Our Starting Fullback is not our 1st FB signed in 6 seasons despite 200 FB signed every year by our opponents, ranked the # 3 FB in the nation. Our Starting TE is not the TE and is lousy Mark Richt just said this week because he wants to play basketball too, according to Buck Belue. Our OL is going to be much better this season because 3 of the starters last season left to play in the NFL. Our leading WR per game average is playing defense now. We’ve lost the starting running backs several years in a row now, amid the usual BS about not being able to block for 56 sacks and counting little Aaron Murray, as to why neither of the Freshmen Phenoms are not starting, and instead a guy who quit the team in September and transferred-out and then cancelled that transfer-out, who then Failed the NCAA Drug Test according to Mark Richt who now has a new contract for no raise which states that he will be terminated on the spot if he announces any other football players who fail NCAA Drug Tests Thursday before we play Florida, a guy who fumbled against Kentucky and put up but 4.1 yards a carry.

Not an issue in the world with this football team. Nah. Such solidarity on Defense that all this bad news except for Isaiah Crowell, all off-season is on the Defense ONLY. Best news all off-season Mark Richt says is that they show such solidarity coming back for this 2012 season. Could have all done us a favor and LEFT. Would have been better news this off-season. Every time they play good teams, they kill us with their passing game. Obliterate us. Then, while their teams drive the field for the scores, our own offense settling for field goals, cannot.

But, that’s not Aaron Murray’s fault.

Now 3.35 average recruit 2013 and well over the 25 limit you whined about for every other coach, and now you suddenly quiet about that too – like you’ve become about Cootie Harrow whom you bragged so much that you trust that Mark Richt knows what he’s doing and well, Mark Richt is a fine Christian and last won The SEC in 2005 when 2005 was now Eight (8) seasons’ ago, when we made the actually # 3 team in The SEC in every poll.

the only game that matters is Ga-South Carolina. SC is way overrated–Grantham’s D will shut down Spurrier’s QB and the Dawgs win by 13. GA blows out Tenn and Fla, beats missouri by 7 and wins the east. Ga will play alabama and can pull the upset, since alabama lost a ton of talent. This is the year for the dawg.

Da Dawgs had the elite team when Stafford and Moreno were there but laying in the tanning bed and not running your team as say Saban does equals failed chances. Richt may never see a team loaded with that much talent again but he did get a few Ford commercals – anging my head against the wall.

What ?

No National Championship Prediction for us ? Nothing about Heisman Trophy Winner Aaron Murray at Quarterback ? No complaining about the Offensive Line is to blame ? No Excuses about how Alabama beat 2 and LSU 3 teams who made the Top 10 ? No Statements that Mark Richt is a fine Christian and you want your son to play for Him, despite the fact that he has to Punish his players every game ? What ? No whining about how much harsher our punishment is, since Mark Richt has no Discipline ? Shouldn’t you be saying how great Mizzou is and you’re worried about the # 42 team in the polls with a QB who had shoulder surgery on this throwing shoulder, having lost everyone off his big xii 8-5 team without any defense and no special teams ? Shouldn’t you be saying that Florida is going to be great ? Shouldn’t you try to paint South Carolina as national championship contenders 2012 ? Shouldn’t you be saying that the vols are great ? Or, that we played LSU and Alabama 5 years ago ?

I am not making any predictions on UF this season because the offense was horrible last year. If it does not improve this year, Muschamp will be in trouble which is too bad because I like him. If the Gators loose to TAMU and UT, they will spiral downward which is reality. I hope not.
Everyone who is high on South Carolina’s defense should factor in the reality that Ellis Johnson who was the brains behind their defense is now the head coach at Southern MS. A lot of Kool Aid is being consumed in Columbia, SC these days.
Good luck to all.

I’ll explain it to you one more time, simpleton. You can’t finish 9-4 in a 14-game season. If you finish 9-4, then you didn’t play a 14-game season; i.e., the championship game was not a part of your season. How hard is that for even a mindless boo* such as yourself to understand?

As for “no home game to look forward to,” there’s the win over Tech in the home finale. You would be one of very few not to look forward to that one. Like I said, you can screw up a blog, but that’s about all you’re worth.

We have buckeye bushes on our hunting property. It is amazing how much a buckeye resembles a butthole. There is actually a buckeye on an SEC football blog running his mouth to one of several SEC teams that have crushed your little joke of a program. I’ll bet you think that p.o.s. you have hired for a coach is going to change that. Georgia has played the Buckeyes, the over rated Wisconsin Badgers, (Ron Dayne was a joke), and Michigan State a couple of times, and yeah we gave it to them in the meaningless bowl the last time around, but they play with more heart than your little team, and will more than likely beat your Buckeyes in 2012.

1- Mark Richt will only win 9 games in 2012
There are 2 ways we can be confident this is true.
a) Richt has always won less games the next year all 4 times he has won the SEC East.
b) 9 out of 11 UGA Olines with this little experience won less games than previous season

2- 9-3, losses to whom?
a) Florida, Coach Richt has never won 2 games in a row vs. UF
b) South Car, Coach Richt is 0-2 vs. Lattimore, and Spurrier hired a Special Teams Coach. Connor Shaw is 7-1 as starter and has beaten a 9. 10, and 11 qin team. Murray has never beaten a 9, 10 or 11 win team.
c) Auburn. Van Gorder & Willie get revenge, they know the offense, they’ll show all the flaws.

# 7 Georgia Bulldogs 2004 wiped-out 24-6
# 10 Virginia Tech 2004
# 13 vols SEC Championship Game too 38-28
# 16 LSU

And, of course, with Southern Cal vacating # 1 Auburn who is ranked # 2 for 2004 is the only team who can be considered the top team 2004 for winning these 5 games 2004 over teams who made the top 16.

There was not a 6th win. What win did I miss ?

Georgia Bulldogs on the other hand, have not beat 1 team who made the Top 10 after # 9 Auburn way back in 2006 (same season we lost to 2-win Vandie whose only 2 wins were over 0-12 Duke and 1-11 Temple 2006 but Vandie 2006 beat Mark Richt.) while Auburn beat 2 teams 2004 alone who made the Top 10.

You’ve got to be kidding me that I should be happy about spending $ 10,000 a year following this football team every year because I get to pay to sit and watch us play Georgie tek. That is your ONLY statement as to why I pay all these monies to for seasons’ tickets. Georgie tek.

Good Lord, son.

And, as for 2012 again a 14-game season, if South Carolina goes 10-3 or 9-4, they did not win enough games (compared to our cupcake schedule) to play the 14th game because they play instead of just them for us : Arkansas, Clemson, LSU and Georgia while we play only them.

“Georgie tek, no one looks forward to playing that crappy team….”

Sure they do, you imbecile. True UGA fans get great pleasure from squashing the bugs every year. Most also look forward to playing Tenn, another game on this year’s home schedule.

“You’ve got to be kidding me that I should be happy about spending $ 10,000 a year following this football team every year because I get to pay to sit and watch us play Georgie tek. That is your ONLY statement as to why I pay all these monies to for seasons’ tickets. Georgie tek.”

If you’re stupid enough to pay $10,000 a year for season tickets with all the crap teams on this year’s home schedule, then you’re even dumber than I thought. It’s your problem; don’t whine to me about it.

“And, as for 2012 again a 14-game season, if South Carolina goes 10-3 or 9-4, they did not win enough games (compared to our cupcake schedule) to play the 14th game because they play instead of just them for us : Arkansas, Clemson, LSU and Georgia while we play only them.”

This makes even less sense than your previous idiotic remarks on the topic–if that’s possible. I told you I would not explain it to you again, and I won’t. Suffice it to say, someone who adds 9 + 4 and comes up with 14 wouldn’t have the ability to understand it anyway.

Shoo fly.

Maybe you derive pleasure by us playing cupcake city. I do not. I know that we will never get any national pub until we start beating some teams who make the Top 10. Until then, take your pitifully sorry excuses about why you don’t even go the games and chat-up someone like yourself who doesn’t go to the games, to be unconcerned about us having not one home game worth driving to Athens to see.

I won’t believe that we can line up and pound an opposing SEC defensive line until I see it. So I see a rattled offense unable to get into a rhythm, leading to turnovers, leading to 2 or 3 losses this season. And everyone will once again start blaming Bobo’s playcalling, not understanding that SEC football is won or lost in the trenches.

Sure hope I’m wrong. Our defense should keep us close in every game, so maybe old lady luck will be on our side.

UGA ALL THE WAY.

Did I say anything whatsoever about taking pleasure from our cupcake schedule? Absolutely not. Did I offer any excuse at all about why I don’t “go the games”? Absolutely not. I do go to games. I’m simply not brainless enough to spend $10,000 for season tickets and then whine on a blog about how I got cheated by the soft home schedule.

You’re sinking fast, Thomas. Looking more ridiculous with every post. Why is no one surprised?

You did state that the Georgie tek and the vols’ game should be enough for the season ticket holders.

9 losses/thomas brown:

You still on here trying to get in the last word? You’ve failed–yet again.

And yes, I admit I don’t spend $10,000 on season tickets and then whine on a blog about how I’m getting cheated. I’m proud that I don’t, and you should be ashamed that you do. Whiner.

I never said that “Georgie tek and the vols’ game should be enough for season ticket holders.” Go back and look at what I wrote–and quit making things up. Liar.

OK, you can quit gritting your teeth and stomping your feet now. Loser.

Hey 9 losses I would suggest not buying season tickets, especially for ten grand. Since UGA has sucked according to you since 2007 or more precisely forever in your eyes I think after five years you would have learned. If I were you I would burn all my UGA gear and sell the season tickets. Then you wouldn’t have to come here and whine. Poor freaking baby with 10,000.00 to spend on football tickets there are a lot of people who wish they had that problem.

[...] Good team + bunny schedule = SEC East title. If you’re looking for a team that has a real chance to do something, you start with one that has either a seasoned quarterback or a shutdown defense. Georgia has both. And it did win its division last season, and with an even easier schedule I see no reason why it can’t again. [...]

I think you are really overlooking the GSU game. Don’t write that off as an easy win. This UGA team had lots of issues in the offseason and doesn’t look that improved over last year. GSU on the other hand is another year wiser, stronger and coming off a season where they were played Alabama very well and actually scored the most points of any team who played them last year. This game could be really interesting to say the least.
