Update: After arrest, Crowell is dismissed from UGA squad

Feb. 2, 2011: Isaiah Crowell brings delight to Bulldog Nation. Alas, that was then. (AP photo)

At 5 p.m. Friday, Georgia coach Mark Richt announced that Isaiah Crowell has been dismissed from the squad. More to come.

Here they go again. Four summers after a team that would be ranked No. 1 in preseason saw its summer so roiled by player arrests that 16 of the first 20 questions asked of Mark Richt on Media Day involved discipline (or the lack thereof), the Georgia Bulldogs are about to embark on another season of great expectations, and again we’re talking less about football than foolishness.

Four defensive starters have managed to get themselves suspended for the start of the 2012 season, forcing the Bulldogs to move Malcolm Mitchell, their best wide receiver, to defensive back. That was bad. This is worse: Isaiah Crowell, the 2011 SEC freshman of the year, was arrested in Athens early Friday on three weapons charges, two of them felonies.

According to Athens-Clarke County Police, a Luger was found under the seat of the car Crowell was driving, a car from which an officer reported the smell of marijuana emanating. Crowell denied knowledge of the gun. Also in the car: Four other Georgia football players, three of whom are incoming freshmen. None of the four was charged.

This comes after a freshman season in which Crowell finished sixth among SEC backs in yards rushing but was suspended from the New Mexico State game after a failed drug test. He also limped off so often with a bad ankle that, by the SEC championship game and the Capital One Bowl, discontent among Georgia fans in the stands was aurally apparent.

On the one hand, Crowell is a superb player. On the other, he became a major distraction in no time flat. At halftime of the Vanderbilt game, Richt was asked by an interviewer why Crowell hadn’t played in the first quarter. “Because we love him,” was the coach’s answer. (Actually, the first-quarter holdout had been another suspension, this for “undisclosed disciplinary reasons.”)

And now he has been arrested, and not just for dinging a car in a parking garage or effecting an improper exit of an alley on a motor scooter. Crowell has been charged with felonies involving a firearm, and according to the UGA Student-Athlete handbook — perhaps the most-thumbed reference tome on campus — any felony arrest carries “immediate suspension from athletic competition.”

(Footnote: Crowell’s arrest came one day shy of the two-year anniversary of Damon Evans’ midnight ride through Buckhead, a misadventure that cost the Georgia athletic director his job.)

On Signing Day 2011, Crowell’s announcement for Georgia set off wild celebration. He was the capper atop the famous Dream Team, the latest in a long line of New Herschel Walkers. Only nine months later, Richt was quoted as saying, “There’s a tremendous opportunity for running backs in [the 2012] class to come to Georgia and make an impact.”

Sure enough, the Bulldogs landed the highly regarded Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley, though neither was quite so highly ranked as Crowell. Ordinarily you’d expect big-name recruits to avoid a program that had landed a big-name tailback the year before, but it had already become apparent that a team with Crowell as Plan A had better have workable Plans B and C.

There was a time when Georgia felt it needed this tailback so badly that it had 10 jersey-wearing incumbents array themselves in an offensive set and beckoned Crowell to dot the “I.” This became known as the “Missing Man” formation. It also became a self-reported secondary NCAA violation.

After Crowell’s second suspension, we posed the question: Was the famous recruit more trouble than he was worth? After this felony arrest, we have our answer. He has been the most-discussed Bulldog from the moment he unveiled that puppy at his signing ceremony, and in the swelter of summer we’re discussing him still, and not in a way that confers honor on the player or the school.

Yes, he’s a talent. Yes, he would have helped the Bulldogs win. (Heck, he already did.) In the grand scheme, however, the University of Georgia has no further need for Isaiah Crowell. He’s not worth this much aggravation. Nobody is.

No recognition of the opportunity that’s been placed in front of him.

No understanding of the fact that he is a public figure and that there are HUGE consequences to his bad choices (for himself, for the team and for the school).

It starts in the home. No one has ever told the kid that carrying a handgun is only an invitation for trouble.

Its just a damn shame that constantly repeats itself, particularly in the South :-(

I think its high time the RB coach took some heat for this. How many times does UGA have to recruit a RB only to see them wash out? Samuel is the only one left, but hes a converted LB. Something hasnt been right about UGA’s RB recruiting, coaching, and mentoring for a few years now. You can blame one bad egg on luck..maybe two. This would be the FOURTH in less than 3 years.

Samuel isnt the only RB left actually. THey do have two more with limited playing time. Hes just the only one left with any significant experience.

Mark Richt has been a great coach, but this is the 3rd time his team has had high expectations (along with 2004 and 2008). Here we are looking like it will be the 3rd time falling apart. With all the promise coming into this season, Crowell gone will be huge. The defensive arrests are huge. They will still likely win 10 games, but it could end up being another season of what ifs.

JB, I have no idea. To be honest, UGA outside of the years with Thomas Brown and Moreno have never really had an elite running game under Richt. I’m not sure who’s been RB coach all those years, but its gotten a lot worse in recent years. RB coach may need to be Richts next tough decision.

Sure, dump him, I agree. By the same token I sincerely hope he’ll straighten out somewhere along the way. It won’t help UGA but that’s not the biggest deal here. It can happen – look at Vick. Whether or not he is sincere in his turnaround he is, at the least, now smart enough to realize it makes sense to appear to have changed (and maybe he has, I hope he has really changed). It’s trite to say but many of these young people come from environments so different from the middle class upbringing many of those commenting experienced that it would be impossible for any of them to picture. OK. I sound like a bleeding heart liberal (and weirdly I’m not). But I do think the future of the kid – even one so far misguided and maybe stupid – is more important than the win/loss record at UGA.

No raise after winning the SEC East, Dean of SEC coach’s making about 40 % of the highest paid SEC coach’s, the buy out portion cut to favor the University. Me thinks he has negotiated a 2 year exit plan. It was handled this way as to not damage recruiting and to give McGarity plenty of time and options to arrange for regime change. What needs to change in the NCAA-
- No offers until senior year of the senior year and SAt requirements passed. Too many players who want to be and would stay passed over
-At 18 you are supposed to be a man, most football freshman are near 20. Freshmen need to be ineligible since we have 20 year old boys on our campus.
This might save the players life.
And maybe coaches who put up with way too much will not completely kill our sport which seems inevitable.

Its official to Bradley but NOT UGA. Bradley you should be held LIBEL for this headline that is ALL OPINION and not reflective of UGA. Secondly NOONE knows how the gun got under the seat and it CERTAINLY was NOT used. it was ONLY UNDER A SEAT!

Crowell has a CLEAN record. Dont rush to judgement. The gun was there but not even pulled out, shot etc. Felony charges will be dropped. I assure you. IF Crowell knew the gun was there he probably would not have let the cops search the car, you know?

That being said…..Nothing good comes from being out that late and its bad influence on the other players. Bad decision making again and likely smoking weed again. IF Crowell gets another chance with UGA it will be his last.

This is not as bad as it seems and Bradley is blowing it out of proportion with his HIGHLY subjective opinion based on little info. Bradley likes to throw fuel on a fire and watch it burn. when are you people going to learn: It’s not the recruits Georgia is getting. It’s all about “control.” Nowhere else in the SEC are 5-10 of the most talented players (among those who we expect to receive a lot of playing time) on a single roster faced so many program killer discipline issues. It’s the man at the top. The players love him, but they don’t respect him or the university. Add the other attrition issues and you have “lack of program control.” Frankly, I’m surprised Georgia Football isn’t on probation. Some coaches know how to keep “borderline” and troublesome players in line, but CMR just can’t seem to do it, regardless of the punishments. You do the math. As long as CMR is in place, lack of discipline and bone-headed decisions will be the norm. That is why signing players like Nkemdiche and Foster are so important. You must have very talented players on the second and third line to make up for idiots with bad decision-making ability. After the first 22, where exactly is the game-busters at? With 6 weeks to go before camp, this team should have been on lock down. Let’s move past Crowell and focus on a bigger issue: What the heck are FIVE players doing riding in a Mercury (hint to black men:red flag. Rodney Garner, where are you?) at 3:00 am on Thursday night in Athens? It was a bone-headed decision to make in the first place. Especially when you [forgot] that the pistol was in the car….lol. IF Crowell and the 4 idiots weren’t smoking in the car, AND IF Crowell would not have had 4 other passengers, this would be a non-issue. Simple as that. Cause I know there are people on here leaving negative, racist, prejudiced comments, who have pistols under their seats as well, loaded, and no concealed weapons permit at all. Hypocrits!!!

Here is my question. Almost all teams in the ACC and SEC recruit the most talented players and give them offers. Why is it that UGA only gets the ones who get into trouble? You never hear about these problems at SC, UT (not anymore), UF (not anymore), LSU, Bama, UK, etc yet they are all recruiting the same players for the most part. Why does UGA always end up with the bad ones?

And I’m sorry, so what if he’s got a gun. These gun laws are borderline unconstitutional to begin with IMO. Unless he was using it in the act of committing a real crime, I don’t care and it should be noone else’s business. Maybe if the cops were out you know, doing there jobs and protecting people, instead of creeping around trying to pull over whoever they think they can make some money off of on the streets, then maybe people wouldn’t feel the need to pack. But they do.

Is he a distraction? YES. Is he a dumb—? Apparently. Is he the first college kid to ever smoke weed and have a weapon in his car? Probably not. I could care less what CMR does with IC. He is the coach. I do think some of the UGA fans are way out of touch with what is going on in our society. A huge percentage of young men are being raised with no father figure in the home and they have a lack of discipline and respect in their lives. I know becasue I have coached them and mentored them. Our society has become a whiny, pansy, take no responsibilty society. UGA is not the only school taking these kids. Alabama was waiting in line on IC’s signature also. UT of Knoxville had kids beat the crap out of someone on the sidewalk and they are still playing. Not good but kind of makes you wonder how many things going on at other SEC schools would be treated differently if the spotlight of the Atlanta media were shining on their campus.

This is just a sad story more than anything else. I don’t know if Crowell is a bad kid. I do know he’s young and stupid. He’s blown a great opportunity, and I just hope he can use this to learn from and become a better person. I feel bad for him in a way, but he must be responsible for his actions.

Apparently he’s destined to become the latest in a growing list of UGA running backs who, for one reason or another, were never able to live up to their advanced billing. King, Ealey, Lumpkin, Hollis, Sanks…I could continue, but I’d rather not. That’s why it’s hard for me to get really excited about Marshall and Gurley. Been let down too many times.

He was never the “next” Hershel Walker. I never hear any Georgia zealots say that. I only hear media call our running backs “next”. Zealots like me hope he can be the next Rodney Hampton, Garrison Hearst, Robert Edwards. Please quit this “next Hershel” business. Hershel (like Bo and Tebow) are once in a lifetime players. All-American type, not all-World is what unrealistic zealots like me are happy with. If we are lucky enough to get another once in a lifetime player again I’m sure they will be different than Hershel, Bo, or Tebow.

His signing topped off the Dream Team last February, and his first appearance against Boise State was greeted with a mighty cheer. Clearly Crowell has tried his coaches’ patience: He was disciplined twice this season, and Saturday he drew an unsportsmanlike penalty from the bench.”

I’m with Columbus. IC gets stopped at a roadblock, not for any moving violation, and the car is searched because a cop “smells” marijuana, but stangely enough, doesn’t find any. Gimme a break. If you “randomly” searched the pick-ups in the various student lots on campus you’d find more than a few guns. Surely many “smell” like alcohol. Football programs begin and end at the top. ie: the head coach! Case in point, Duron Carter. Saban has worked with his father, Chris Carter for over a year to right this boy’s attitude, with no success. Because Duron wouldn’t comply with UA’s expectations, he never played a down in Tuscaloosa. Had Crowell gone to Bama, he’d have shaped up or he’d never see the field. We call it “processed”. CMR could learn from the following exchange…
Question: “Coach, will Duron Carter play this fall?”
Saban: “You know, I’ve been talking here for about 45 minutes about leadership, accountability, and all of the good things we expect out of our players, and here you are, with the very first question, asking me about a guy that refuses to buy in to any of those things and refuses to buy in to what we teach and what we value to be successful. He will not play for this football team. Period. Anybody else got a question?”

RECRUIT CHARACTER GUYS!!! Recruit players who are just as high CHARACTER as they are high TALENT. Keith Marshall, for all I’ve heard, fits this description, and so does Todd Gurley. And Ray Drew.
No, there aren’t as many CHARACTER 4* and 5* guys, but GET A TEAM FULL OF 3* CHARACTER GUYS YEAR AFTER YEAR WHO CARE ABOUT TEAM AND EACH OTHER and you’ll wind up way ahead of the team that doesn’t care about character, just *****’s.

Maybe UGA is where Jesus Christ sends all the projects for love and grace. Is that in CMR contract, that he can give grace and love to his players, and that representing JC is his highest calling? Driving while stoned on pot is no more impairing than driving while on ritalin or driving while on any number of cold medications.

Pot is far less dangerous than alcohol. You want to bring back prohibition, though? I guess you don’t learn, huh? Our real biggest problem is people like you, who hear something from an authority figure (pot is bad!) and believe it and never change their view or truly educate themselves despite all the evidence in the world that the authority figure was full of self-serving %(*()$%.

Jimmy62

Oh, and the reason marijuana is illegal is because it’s illegal. It’s got nothing to do with the substance, and everything to do with it being illegal for so long that entire industries (pharma, prisons, police drug units, and a lot of politicians) would be devastated were we to apply science to drug laws. There’s no scientific reason for it to be illegal, no moral reason, just a lot of people who will be out of jobs, and other people who don’t want to admit to being wrong.

What exactly is the Georgia law on this?

I know if you carry a concealed gun on you without a license it is a crime and if you carry it strapped to your leg out in the open it is legal in most places.

So if drive with a gun out of site it is a crime. If it is laying in plain view is it a crime?

If I borrow my neighbor’s truck and he has a gun stashed behind the seat and I don’t know about it is it a crime?

Does the gun have to be loaded for it to be a crime?

If my house is in a school zone and I have a gun in my car either in plain view or under the seat is that a crime?

And isn’t it the court’s responsiblity to determine from some expert if the serial number was altered or not?

I’m just saying that we are all innocent until proven guilty in a court of law by a jury of our peers and that includes IC. If I were IC I would get a lawyer and start asking questions.

I would also ask if the traffic stop was stopping all cars or just certain cars, ie profiling. If so the search may be ruled illegal and thrown out.

IC is stupid if he knew the gun was there. He was unfortunate if he did not. Either way, IC get a good attorney that knows the law and let him ask the right questions.

“Every rule we have is for the benefit of these guys and for the team,” Richt said. “The discipline that we give does involve playing time, and that’s the thing guys covet the most. I am so tired of writing, “I really like Richt as a man, but he’s just not a great coach.”

Why not cut ties with this guy, who can’t control his players, and who can, not only win big games, but gets blown out or gets embarrassings comebacks put on his teams, because of his cautious, FG-loving style. Since about ‘08, UGA’s football program has been in the news 20-times more for arrests, suspensions, arrests, suspensions, etc, than for our prowness on the field (which has sucked too, in big games).

I’m not a Richt-hater – just sick of this never-ending mess.

With all of these players suspended and kicked off the past 12 months – destractions galore, get ready for another ‘08 disapointment.

I think there are so many other factors than just coach Richt being the problem. Its the players life and if they wanna make poor decisions time after time then see you later. No wonder CROWELL’S Mother liked SABAN and wanted him to go there.

CMR has lost control of the program. McGarity is probably having 2nd thoughts about keeping him on board now,

Rivals did a survey in order to find out what recruits thought about the recruiting process once they signed. The results were pretty interesting. What was most interesting was that Nick Saban was voted the most intimidating coach in all of college football.

Saban’s name came up most often when players mentioned which coach intimidated them. His name often came up as soon as the question was asked. And the players often said the exact same thing about him.

Saban came in at 30 votes for most intimidating coach with Lane Kiffin and Will Muschamp came in with 5 and 4 votes respectively. Alabama was voted the school with the best facilities as well.

The players said Nick Saban didn’t smile at all. He didn’t attempt to make small talk and was strictly business. Non of the recruits mentioned Saban laughing once.

The study also mentioned that Nick Saban would sit each player down and tell them what he liked and what he didn’t like about them. After winning the BCS National Championships in 2009 and 2011 at Alabama, the recruits said they considered him to be elite and some were awestruck. Obviously, a lot of recruits were intimated as well.

Now Crowell and his mother Debbie may be left with years of wondering what may have been if Crowell had signed with Saban, who has always been seen as a coach who can keep players with a tendency to stray over the line in check.

That is exactly why Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram ended up in Tuscaloosa over a team nearer his home state of Michigan. Ingram’s mother knew how a younger Coach Saban had kept Mark’s father in line during his time at Michigan State and knew her son would be in good hands with Nick Saban.

Her faith in Saban was well justified as Mark went on to stay clean, become a role model athlete, student and man as well as picking up a national championship, a Heisman Trophy and a first round pick in the NFL and signing a life changing contract.

Had the Crowell’s made the same decision, would things be different on this sunny Friday afternoon in June?

The truth is, nobody will ever know. Some people are just bound to have troubles as they just can’t find a way to make good decisions in life. The question lying on the table is, could Crowell have been saved by a stronger disciplinarian like Saban?

Bad news for all of us… there’s a solution that can be put into play instantly. Simply, as one previous poster suggested, require that athletes be real college students. How many of these problem children would have ever come near a college campus if they didn’t play ball? This isn’t just a comment on UGA’s problems, but on those of college sports in general.

If we want student-athletes to behave like real college students, we have to start with kids who can be real students. If we aren’t willing to do that because we’d rather win the game on Saturday and make millions of dollars for the university, then we’re fooling ourselves when we expect that behavior.

Yes, I know that there’s always someone willing to take the problem children and win, but I’d like just once for some university to be honest about what they want. Oh yeah… I forgot, that happens sometimes! You just don’t see many Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Navy, etc. fans on these forums!

I am as white as they come…no race card here by any means…and this totally sucks for both the team and the kid. ACPD sets up a road block at 2am on the road back from downtown to athlete/fraternity row. Five black kids pull up to the road block and the officer says “hmm i think i smell marijuana, can i search ya’ll and the vehicle?” Is that REALLY all that’s needed to create probable cause?? IC was probably scared to death and knowing there was no marijuana, consented to the search. Where was the marijuana? Were they drinking? Driving Impaired? Did the officer say “Hmm, I smell Luger under the drivers seat?” Unless he admits to knowing the gun was there, any lawyer worth anything will get him off of these charges faster than Malcolm Mitchell can run the 40 whether or not the gun was really his. What really sucks is we are back to Boo and Samuel in the backfield and IC will probably play JC ball next year and then be taking hand offs from “He made me kiss him” Zach Mettenberger for LSU. This totally sucks for both the Team and the Kid…and it seems to be nothing other than the notion “if you see a pile of black kids in a car late at night, there’s a blunt in there somewhere”…which may be true some of the time, but obviously was NOT the case here.

Didn’t Richt keep Dave Van Halanger and move him to “Director of Player Welfare”? Now, we certainly can’t keep up with all these knuckleheads 24/7, but this is ridiculous. underage minor, goes to a club, smells like weed (why not charged with DUI and tested?) I know one must have the manifestations of impairment, but with those circumstances, any officer with half a brian could articulate that on an arrest report? I would bet a paycheck that THC was in his bloodstream (heck, it stays there for up to 28 days, and given his history, likely it was there). Way too many people falling down on the job on this one. The problem starts with recruiting. More emphasis needs to be placed on character, academic responsibility, etc. High School coaches need to get tougher. If the kids lag in behavior or academics they need to sit even if it is a big game. Richt needs to get tough and stop being a baby sitter. These kids need to know what the consequences for their acts will be when they come to school. Unfortunately these kids have no appreciation for the opportunity they are given.

There’s a FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM with thinking Nick Saban could’ve kept Crowell in line with his discipline: If an 18-21 year old doesn’t already have it within himself to be a man of character, yes a MAN BECAUSE 18-YEAR OLDS ARE MEN, then they have no business trying to handle the REWARD and RESPONSIBILITY of an athletic scholarship.
The only person who could keep Crowell in line is Crowell. Same goes for EVERY person, even those already in prison. PRISONERS have the daily decision to do the right thing or the wrong thing.

KerryB…..

I don’t think most people in Dawgnation hate Crowell (obviously, you seem to hate the kid). I think they are very disappointed in him and feel he has let them and the program down….which he has. With all that has happened with Georgia in recent months….all the suspensions and the disappointing losses to LSU and Mich. St…….and the hopes for this year…..I think a lot of Dawg fans are fed up with this type of behavior….especially right now when things have been so possible for Georgia in the last few weeks. More important, Crowell has disappointed his family and the hopes and dreams for him have been diminished….but I don’t think they hate him either. It is a good thing, however, that Crowell will no longer be associated with the Georgia program. He has been not so good an influence on the sidelines, in the locker room, at practice…..and now with young and impressionable recruits just arriving on campus. This could be a real good deal for the rest of the team, bringing them closer together and more committed to doing things the right way. So don’t hate. Be thankful.

Ben, you’re absolutely right, and it doesn’t necessarily turn you into Vanderbilt. Boise St. whipped UGA last year with recruits NOBODY in the SEC would’ve wanted. I’m not saying all of BSU’s players were character guys, but a team doesn’t have to be made up of 4* and 5* guys to be championship caliber. Sure, it helps, BUT NOT WHEN YOU CAN’T KEEP THEM ON THE TEAM B/C OF GRADES OR ACTIONS. UGA needs to recruit character. Period. See Keith Marshall.

GIve Richt credit……he acted quickly and decisively on the Crowell issue. He tried very hard to get Crowell to do the right things….but he chose differently and then took out new recruits and could have possibly brought trouble to them as well. I think that probably really got into Richt’s thoughts….the bad influence Crowell was on the team and the embarrassment he brought to the Georgia program today. Unforgivable at this time. See ya. Good decision. The right decision.

Now….Mr. Crowell. You screwed up big time. It seems to be a bad habit of yours. This is your opportunity to accept your bad behavior and go somewhere small where you will not be such a big head……and go get your self fixed and do something with the given talents (physical) you have been given. Don’t waste this once in a lifetime opportunity to do something really good with your life. This will probably be your last chance. Someone will give you the opportunity to come in and become a better person. Make the best of it. I would suggest South Alabama. Janoris Jenkins went their….”got fixed”….and became a #1 pick again. You can too. Good luck, young man. Make the most of this to make yourself a better man first…..and an athlete second. Then go have a career in the NFL because you did.

How is this and any other arrest CMR’s fault? Bad recruiting? Really? Every SEC school recruited Crowell, Ealy, King, and most of the others who have been arrested. This is on Crowell. These kids get in trouble and CMR responds. Do you expect him to control their behavior? These kids have free wills and no one can control their behavior but themselves and that includes their parents.

I’m as disappointed as any UGA fan, and I’m glad the University dismissed Crowell. Move on, nothing to see here. I hope he gets his life in order, but he’s just too much of a bonehead right now. Georgia a disgrace, please. At least the UGA Athletic Department openly deals with student issues and moves forward. I’m not concerned with what another SEC school does or does not do with discipline. The football team doesn’t dictate everything about The University Of Georgia. Maybe in Alabama or South Carolina this is the case, but there is sure a lot more to UGA than just football. Let’s just hope the young man can go somewhere, get a degree, and maybe play some football.

To all the people saying finger print the gun or maybe its not his and it’ll just blow over, possession is 9/10ths of the law. Doesn’t matter if it’s his or not. If you think that your 18 yr old kids never break any rules at your Instituion, Then maybe you need to shut up about it like your shool does. I don’t like the fact that Crowell did this, But he probably thought he could get away with it like his buddies at other shools. UGA doesn’t “bend” the rules like other schools and that is why The haters will have plenty of more opportunities to bash the dawgs. UGA doesn’t have to set itself up for this garbage year after year. There’s a LOGICAL fix, but it’s not FLASHY and doesn’t put you in the ridiculous “top recruiting classes” each year.

Any school with a building named Butt Smear shouldn’t be looked to for good judgement.

So sorry to hear of this bad news for Georgia. These kids are out of control….and it’s everywhere not just in Athens, GA.

What is this world coming to? Please forgive me mentioning my faith, but as a devout Catholic, I believe we need to pray for our world, and somebody……A father, uncle, grandfather, or coach needs to whip somebody’s a** in shape. I think that is the root cause of all this crap……the lack of a strong, positive man in the home. That and the Army worked for me.

Sorry to preach.

BDK, JB, MB4h> and other UGA board trolls are the foolish individuals who make the Georgia faithful look plausible and meek with every vitriolic swipe.

Lewis Grizzard knew how to do it with a stinging, and yes lasting vengeance he also knew that he ‘Bama program was better but he could write articles where you would end up a ‘Dawg fan no matter what side of the fence you were on.

UGA has lost its sauce and step here of late… Time to throw a brick before its too late.

His time is up ! He had to go ! It’s not UGA ’s fault ! It’s a young man (boy) who hasn’t been taught the rights & wrongs in life.

People need to understand that our society has become one that absolves people of responsibility. Crowell and other athletes need to understand that there are a large number of people that wish they had the talent and opportunity to go to a University of GA. He needs to be prayed for and guided and shown how to be a responsible productive member of society

But, but

Richt is a good man.

Idiots. You too Bradley. You forget (yearly now) that the leader of this team will have the most influence on the outcome, whether directly or indirectly (coaches), of this season.

Over the balance of his tenure has he done what Spurrier (at FL), Fulmer, the FL, now OSU coach, Saban, Miles, the Auburn idiot. Not to mention his record against Zook. He is a 2nd or even 3rd tier coach and nobody will open their eyes to it. With Bowden FSU did what in NC games. won 2 lost 3 but had 14 (was it 10 or 11 win seasons) and could only win 2 NCs. Blah, blah, blah

The NCAA needs to get tough on college football players who break the law. Almost every
day I read about players being dismissed/suspended. It’s a problem nationally. These players
represent their respective schools and I for one am tired of all of their off field insanity.
Get tought, weed out the trouble makers and play ball!. Glad Crowell has been dismissed
from the team. He’s been a problem since day one. Appears he’s a low life who can run
with a football. He and he alone is responsible for his actions. I don’t believe you can dictate
personal responsiblilty.

Some how losing Crowell doesn’t bother me like I thought it would. We have some good ones on the way and maybe they will appreciate the opportunity to represent UGA on and off the field.

Word was from day one he was lazy, out of shape, didn’t follow rules, then the suspensions for drugs. Now hes caught with guns at 3 am on campus smelling of dope.limps off the field in the big games,Coach Ritch should have cut his losses before he made national head lines.Doesn’t look good for our dawgs heading into a season of promise to me.

This guy was not some angel that suddenly turned into a thug at UGA Georgia had to know he was a problem but they didn’t care and now he is gone. If UGA actually had standards they would not be constantly having problems with their players. Academic standards would weed out a lot of chaff too. SEC rule of thumb is 4.5 forty speed equals academic excellence and character. The University shouldn’t be embarassed when their players are interviewed on TV.
