Bulldog Nation -- at least a portion of it -- gathers in anticipation. (Photo by M. Bradley)
Athens — Here we are at Butts-Mehre, sometimes known as Dawg Mahal, and you can cut the tension with a … well, you know. It’s Signing Day, and the biggest undecided name in Georgia’s sights is about to pledge his troth. (Or, to use a more contemporary image, don some school’s baseball cap.)
And Josh Harvey-Clemons, the linebacker from Lowndes, picked …
Georgia.
For the record, Harvey-Clemons did not do the now-tiresome hat trick. Instead he allowed his younger sister to take off one sweatshirt to reveal a red Georgia shirt underneath. Style points!
And that, you’d have to think, would ease the doubt some Bulldog fans had over this class not being ranked as highly — at least not by Rivals and Scout — as last season’s. Harvey-Clemons gives Georgia the No. 1 player (at least in somebody’s ratings) in four different states.
UPDATE: As of 3:07 p.m., Georgia hasn’t received Harvey-Clemons’ signed letter of intent. Which means he isn’t officially a Bulldog yet. Asked about the holdup, recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner said an hour ago: “Sometimes you have to wait.”

I’ve had some surgery and there will be a big surprise for everybody when next you see me. I think we finally can put this “temporary” thing to rest. I’ll spend my time today helping Coach Richt with this recruiting class. I was able to talk with Lesophagus Gilmore’s grandmother a few minutes ago and if we can come up with an Escalade I am pretty sure he’ll be coming to Athens.

I said before the start of last season that the dawgs would have a top 5 defense……this season the dawgs will have the #1 defense in the country……thanks to Todd Grantham.
Five seasons ago the fanbase were screaming and hollerin to replace Willie Martinez until stubborn Mr Richt gave in and replaced him. The fanbase have been screaming and hollering for a quality OC but stubborn Mr Richt refuse to hire one. I don’t think the man know what the hell he is doing.

@Contractor Ok..well first, Our OC hasn’t kept us in games as much over this past year…his schemes aren’t new anymore..many schools around the country do it. AU has the #1 QB in the 2010 recruiting “draft”..he was a freshie now he is a soph. Plus we got Zeke Pike who has a cannon of an arm. Michael dyer hurts but we are always stacked at RB and we proved that in the CFA bowl. RB has and never will be an issue at AU. Look at our roster in 2011..review all the starters..freshmen and sophs…

Speaking of crap, how many ranked teams will UGAG lose to this year?
Answer: 2 because UGAG only plays two ranked teams this year.
Good luck in your next bowl game. Hope you guys pull it out against a Big 10 school.

Well, UGA usually brings in good/great football players who never seem to play well at UGA. How many have gone on to the NFL and done well? Many.
UGA fans never seem to understand that Mark Richt will NOT win them a national title. UGA is too busy trying to beat one team all year and forgets about the rest of their schedule.

DC,
A lot of unproven information in that post. You can’t expect me to hear about the what if’s and should do’s instead of proven facts. If that’s your case then you have no room to talk about Georgia fans that claim the SEC Title and National Championship every year.
Georgia on the other hand has the stats from 2010 to show that our skilled players are ready for another great year in 2012. I’m not claiming a National Title, because luck goes into that equation as well as talent, but I do think Georgia can make it to the SEC Championship game with the cake walk schedule we have this year.

He is jealous over the proud tradition of UGA. I bet he does not know that UGA has the 11th most wins of all time. Second in the SEC only to Bama and Tennessee. How about 4th all time in bowl wins as well?

I’d be every happier if the childish behavior on these blogs would stop. It’s truelly amazing that some of you AU, UA, UF, and even UGA fans have nothing better to do than carryon with an internet mud slinging contest of one upmanship on an exciting day such as this. DC,
You can’t expect me to actually take in the what if’s and should do’s scenario’s you threw in there. Those aren’t facts, those are assumptions of what your guys SHOULD or MAY do. If that is where you stand, then you have no room to comment against Georgia fans that claim an SEC Title and National Championship every year, because you are doing the same by saying Auburn is gonna be on track this year based on your assumptions of unproven talent.
Georgia on the other hand has statistics from 2011 that show a very good team coming back and that Georgia has a good chance to do well this year. I’m not saying a National Title, because that takes talent and a good bit of luck as well, but I think Georgia has a wonderful chance to play in the SEC Championship game with this cake walk schedule we have.
