Live from Athens: UGA hooks Harvey-Clemons – or does it?

Athens — Here we are at Butts-Mehre, sometimes known as Dawg Mahal, and you can cut the tension with a … well, you know. It’s Signing Day, and the biggest undecided name in Georgia’s sights is about to pledge his troth. (Or, to use a more contemporary image, don some school’s baseball cap.)

And Josh Harvey-Clemons, the linebacker from Lowndes, picked …

Georgia.

For the record, Harvey-Clemons did not do the now-tiresome hat trick. Instead he allowed his younger sister to take off one sweatshirt to reveal a red Georgia shirt underneath. Style points!

And that, you’d have to think, would ease the doubt some Bulldog fans had over this class not being ranked as highly — at least not by Rivals and Scout — as last season’s. Harvey-Clemons gives Georgia the No. 1 player (at least in somebody’s ratings) in four different states.

UPDATE: As of 3:07 p.m., Georgia hasn’t received Harvey-Clemons’ signed letter of intent. Which means he isn’t officially a Bulldog yet. Asked about the holdup, recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner said an hour ago: “Sometimes you have to wait.”

2012 Preseason Fulmer Cup Champs,

Gee dude, it’s not that big of a deal that we didn’t get the guy. I personally think Georgia is already stacked at Wide Receiver, I was just being a little greedy and wanted all of the recruits we went after. You can have your one and continue down that slippery slope over there on The Plains. Congratulations to the kid for being able to go to college free and play some ball. Get a life to the chump that was laughing at my comment.

Cuz

AUBURN, Alabama — Four-star wide receiver JaQuay Williams was courted by Georgia to the very end, but stuck with his commitment and signed with Auburn today.

As for the hoopla of Signing Day: I’ll just say that I remember the time when nobody knew who signed where until the next morning’s paper.

That, too, was a while ago.

2012 Preseason Fulmer Cup Champs,

I for one am not a delusional fan that claims to be world beaters every year, so you may wanna understand who you’re commenting against before you peddle that same old tired gibberish on a blog. Auburn has no quarterback and no offense, y’all lost your offensive coordinator whom kept y’all in contention the past couple of years, and your best player just left the team in Michael Dyer. Auburn has nothing going for them and will fall right back into the shuffle of the SEC with Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky.

Buckeye, you can have the Urban Legend all to yourself. Just remember how fast he left town after Alex Smith (Utah) and then Tim Tebow (UF) graduated. You guys better have a one-trick pony for Urban to ride or else he will soon be gone for greener pastures. Mark it.

If the Dawgs can get the OL Avery Young, it’s been a really good class for meeting needs.

If they get Young and a few other surprises, especially one more O Lineman, it’s just icing on the cake.

Good work by the coaches and staff. Congrats and Go Dawgs!

“Just remember how fast he left town after Alex Smith (Utah) and then Tim Tebow (UF) graduated. ”

After Urban’s plan to sink Cam Newton failed, he bolted really fast from UF. Meyer is equal to Nick Saban as far as coaching goes. There isn’t a better coach in the country than those two.
