The next article should be an interview with Coach Bobo to have him justify his ultra-conservative and totally UNSUCCESSFUL strategy of crawling into a turtle shell, instead of taking the game to Michigan State in the 4th quarter. We BLEW the game due to player mistakes AND terrible play-calling decisions. Did Georgia call more than 2 different tailback plays during the game? There were no toss sweeps, almost no attempts to get outside. We ran 39 times for 51 yards, so what does Bobo do? He continues to call the same running plays, and we lose…………Michigan St’s strength on defense was its LINE, so that is where Bobo chose to run over and over and over.

We may be “stacked” going into 2012, but with the same “play not to lose” offensive strategy, I don’t see how it would be possible to contend for a national title. Our offensive play-calling is NOT national championship caliber. GO DAWGS!

The play-not-to-lose attitude costs this team in big games. Did LSU go into conservative mode when they took a 14-10 lead over UGA in the SEC Championship? The final score says no.

I believe he should have said we were lucky to not have lost a couple of more. I love the Dawgs, always will. But what I saw yesterday was more of the same that I’ve seen for the past few years. No strength and great execution by the O line. It’s horrible, has been and will be and no one seems to want to acknowledge it. Time and time again when Ga plays a good to really good team the weakness and inability of the O line to move the line forward and to pass block shows and it hurts the play. UGA’s O line was manhandled by a smaller Boise D line in the first game and it was manhandled by the equally sized D line of Michigan St yesterday. There really no excuse for it other than coaching. If people don’t believe that the O line doesn’t make a huge difference. Look back over Bama’s and LSU’s O line and watch the push they get to move the line forward and also look at the average time they’re lines give the QB to make a good throw. Murray’s two interceptions came from poor blocking and having to hurry his throws. A Highschool coach should be able to see that if Ga’s O line was better, it would be a completely different team.

Bobo, God bless him, has wore out his welcome as OC. QB coach would be fine but OC he ain’t. Get a proven OC who is innovative and can make good adjustments on the fly. Then we will blow the lid off this thing.

Richt says Murray is one of the best in the country, but with the game on the line and after 3 turnovers, he and Bobo were obviously keeping the ball out of Murray’s hands. Look at their actions, not their words, it speaks volumes. Not that Richt and Bobo are going to improve the situation though. Next season will be more of the same crap. Time for a big change, not an extension of what we’ve put up with for 3-4 seasons.

Herschel Talker and others who want to lay everything at the feet of Mike Bobo, do you really think Bobo was the one who decided to run it into the line 3 times late in the 4th quarter and sit on the ball for a 42 yard field goal into the wind in OT? Any head coach other than a figurehead like Paterno in his later years dictates the strategy to the OC in those type of late game situations. Bobo told Bradley he thought about throwing it on that late 4th quarter possession but it was decided on the sideline (i.e. by Richt) to run the ball and make Michigan State use their timeouts. After all, it’s not like 2 minutes is enough time to move the ball down the field without timeouts in the college game where the clock is stopped on every first down.

@Send’em – Murray is just a Sophomore and many of their offensive playmakers are freshman. Mistakes will happen. The line is veteran, but its also the underachieving leftovers from Stacy Searles. MSU is a team full of senior playmakers. That and Bobo’s typically inept second half gameplan was the difference.

I know a lot of UGA fans are upset at Bobo, but what about your defense. You gave up 27 points in the second half. Just like the Boise and the LSU games, once the other team hits a little stride, UGA defense just has no answers and gives up…

UGA defense looked good because they played a bunch of crappy offensive teams. Brantley was terrible and hurt when UGA played. TN, Ole Miss, MIss St, and KY have absolutely no offense at all this year. They played a joke SEC schedule with Florida and TN probably having their worst teams in 20+ years.

Jarvis Jones is an absolute beast, but outside of him, UGA defense isn’t that good…Boise, LSU, South Carolina all proved it. When they needed a BIG stop, UGA defense failed every time in those games…just go back and watch them and tell me if you can dispute that

IMHO, Bobo is the worse OC in football, including little league. Seriously, running up the middle 3 times in a row when you haven’t run the ball on that D ALL GAME. Same nonsense in the LSU game. There is a reason MSU and LSU have top defenses. Same reason UGA did! You can’t run the ball on them. OT was even worse. Give the guys a chance. The drive with Boykin’s TD showed what could happen so why stop doing it? Ok, enough venting on Bobo, the worse OC in football.

OL recruits – Positions are available! Hope Friend can make the jump in the OL that Grantham made in the D in his 2nd year. OL is going to be pretty young next year so that’s going to be asking a lot.

QB – LeMay and Mason should be given a shot at Murray’s job. Doubt it but too many critical mistakes. I know he’s in his 2nd year and I think Stafford made a huge jump his 3rd year so hope the same happens for Murray. Has to or will never make the next step needed with this team.

Hope the freshman kicker and punter are ready to go next fall. Nothing ahead of them so they better be.

Is there ANYONE out there that will take Bobo? Hope McGarity forces Coach Richt’s hand on this one.

Michigan State has a goog team and deserved to win. We had opportunities to win but didn’t produce in a few key instances. Folks are being too hard on the team. We improved but aren’t there yet. I feel it’s rediculous to look at next year and proclaim ourselves SEC champions or contenders for NC. Where does this come from? The media? Fair weather fans? Not from most real Georgia fans!

The disapointing lose yesterday may be something that helps our team and coaches get to where they need to to position ourselves as an upper tier SEC team and perennial top 10 team.

Hopefully, McGarity will require Richt to make some more coaching changes. It may not be fair, because Richt may be directing what Bobo calls, but I think we need a top notch experienced OC that agrees in concept with Richt but that can improve our offense and fully take advantage of our talent and not be so predictable and come up with some plays when we need to make a first down. Yesterday was terrible. Maybe qb coach and recruitibg coordinator. I know Bobo is a great human being he just got promoted ahead of his time and is being outcoached by the great teams we face.

Richt and Bobo need to take a look around the SEC. Putting the entire offense on the shoulders of your QB is not what is winning games these days. LSU played 2 QBs this year and neither one of them are all that great. McCarron has been solid but unspectacular for Bama. Those two teams are a combined 25-1 because they have a physical offense that pushes the other team back and grinds out tough yards. They aren’t winning games with a couple of 60 yard bombs every game.

I don’t blame Murray for anything. Too much is put on him in this offense. Ever since Bobo took over turnovers have gone through the roof. Look it up if you don’t believe me. During the Greene-Shockley years we were known for a boring offense that protected the football. Now we’re known for big flashy plays and turnovers at critical times. I prefer the Greene-Shockley way of doing things my self. Richt needs to go back to square one and demote Bobo.

@UGA Insider- I don’t see why Peterson would go to Georgia when he turned down Penn St. He would have a better chance of being successful in the Big 1G than the SEC.

It’s kind of late now anyway to be looking for a coach as all 25, except for Penn St, of the openings have been filled.

Who out there that is proven would really come to Georgia? I can’t think of anyone.

Pick any college football game on Sat and you will invariably see two teams playing up to or beyond their abilities. The Peach Bowl is an example of this. It was an entertaining, fast paced game. Both Auburn and Virgina played hard …. the entire way. Auburn prevailed because their OC’s game plan kept the other team off balance the whole way. By way of contrast, UGA games seem bland, plodding and ugly. They struggle and underachieve. For three years now, they have been frustrating to watch.

If you look at the whold picture Aaron Murray is not a winning quarterback. He pads his stats in meaningless games and I think is 0-whatever in games when teams are in the top 25. BUT HE STUDYS HARD. The sad part is that we have some great youn receivers coming back and if we had an OC with have a brain ( BOBO HAS GOT TO GOGO ) we we hire an OC that knows how to run the spread offense and utilize the receivers potential. The sad part is that Mark Ritch thinks Murray is a star QB. We have Hutson that broke passing records in GA and the kid from NC that broke passing records there and all Murray has done in high school is break a leg but he studys hard. Let’s face it Murray is too slow getting rid of the ball and makes poor decisions in big games and cannot hold onto the ball, but he studys hard. Maybe McGarity will do what we brought him in for and fire ( BOBO HAS GOT TO GOGO ) cause CMR will not. Please hire a top OC like we did with Grantham ( who saved CMR’s @#$ ) so we can compete with Alabama and LSU. Just let Murry keep studying but please keep him off the football field.

For me, more than the interceptions and missed/blocked field goals, the most painful failure was the inability of the Dawgs to run out the clock toward the end. They never should have had to give MSU the ball again. Very, very frustrating. I agree with some folks, that Richt/Bobo were way to conservative and uncreative with those running plays toward the end. Surely some kind of simple play-action there on second or third down would have been effective. Or heck, bring in Samuel and Ogletree to block, and take another shot down field. An interception in that case would not have been too painful. It seemed clear to me and probably most folks that MSU was going to march down the field if we had to punt it back to them, no matter how deeply Butler might bury them. Our D was tired, and Cousins was starting to click. But in spite of it all, Go Dawgs in 2012. One final note: I wanted to strangle Jon Gruden after he mentioned “bubble screens” for about the 100th time!

bruce mac you related to Murray. Bobo gotta gogo calls the plays. CMR even stated that he wanted to pass on the last series but got over ruled. Murray has never won a big game and never will but he studys hard. We have two better passers on the bench and now probably one or both may transfer. If we keep Murray and Bobo gotta gogo another year we are doomed. CTG bailed out the hold team this year.

Murray is a good quarterback, but not a great one. He is a turnover machine in big games. He has proven that he is not a big game quarterback.

As for Bobo, will Richt step up and replace him? Probably not. He waited two years too long to replace Martinez.

As for recruiting, LSU and Alabama are oversigning stars. UGA awarded 7 to 8 scholarships to walk-ons this year. UGA and Richt have not even signed the limit for the past two years and it does not appear we will this year. This speaks to DEPTH, which we do not have.

Biggest offensive line in all of football (NCAA or NFL) but we cannot run successfully between the tackles. Bobo has got to go. His playcalling was terrible, especially in 4th quarter. And thank goodness Walsh is leaving. He had a terrible year and a terrible game.

We need a new OC if we want to go the “the next level”. Forget competing for NC unless we do this. We were lucky to win those 10 in a row…..none currently ranked in top 25. In reality, we are not that good right now.

I think my nephew in Michigan, who I doubt has seen UGA play before yesterday, said it all when he asked me ‘What was with that play calling late in the game?’ My only answer was ‘Bobo Ball’ – we see it every game. Don’t know why Orson would return next year when they only TRIED to get the ball to him one time on an inside shovel pass. Especially after Richt recently said that he isn’t a traditional blocking TE but is so much more of a threat – and then we don’t even try to get him the ball.
And why Bobo thinks long developing sideline passes are the best way to beat a smothering pass rush is beyond me. Someone needs to take him down on the field and introduce him to the space BETWEEN the hash marks and disabuse him of the belief that you never THROW it there but always try to RUN it there. MSU figured that out and hurt us in the second half with passes over the middle. Did you hear their QB on the sideline telling his receivers that after their first TD and conversion? Must be nice to have an OC that makes adjustments. My God – even Herbstreit said there was no way MSU was going to come back at halftime. Bobo seems to be the ‘Rainman’ of OCs – ‘definitely, definitely run it between the tackles – definitely between the tackles.’ Like the segment on ESPN – ‘C’mon Man!’

I get so pissed at him during the games as well, but then I think that the OC is so bad, that I shouldn’t be blaming him. Bad moves for 2011. Signing IC after Calhoun H.S. made him submit, moving Bruce Figgins to Fullback was a disaster. Can anyone remember seeing our fullbacks block the way we did in Coach Richt’s first 7 years. Not changing fieldgoal kickers when things went south. Covering Punts with off. and def. lineman. Not getting Hudson Mason more reps at QB. Kicking the ball to LSU

why is it that SEC homers never seem to realize that there is another team on the other side of the ball?

In their mind, an SEC team can never lose, they can only beat themselves. When GA turns the ball over, they are giving the game away. When MSU does it, it is becuase of the great SEC defense, and all that speed, which of course, no other player in any other conference has.

When GA’s running attack is stuffed all day, it is becuase of coaching. When MSU’s running attack is stuffed, it is becuase of that superior SEC defense. Pathetic.

How can Murray say the Bull dog nation is excited about next year? After that debacle of a game yesterday, we can only be filled with dread and foreboding about next year. Even the Florida quarterback played better than he did. If changes are not made in the coaching staff, we are doomed for another mediocre year.

Looks like the players are clearly as delusional as the most delusional fan base in college football- the UGA fan base.

Georgia simply wilted. MSU was less talented but was tougher, meaner, and got stronger as the game went on. They just flat out wore Georgia out. When the game went into OT the spartans were dancing and jumping all around while the exhausted dawg players just sulked. It was as if Sparty knew they owned the dawgs. And the dawgs knew it too.

Richt? Playing not to lose will always get you a loss. This man has no guts and certainly no faith in his offense to get the additional 5 yards that would have kept that kick inside the uprights. It faded right at the very end of the kick. The man is WEAK.

All I hear announcers say is how great Murray is.

I’m sorry but I all give him good but he makes way too many mistakes to be called great. There was some major miscommunication going on yesterday and where was Mr. Orson “I’m going Pro” Charles?

We GAVE the game away and that’s frustrating. A very good year that had potential to be great. But open with and close with 2 loses and it stings a bit.

Two changes need to take place. First, Bobo needs to be HC of a smaller college so we can go hire another OC that will use this offense wisely. Bobo has too many play calls that costs us negative yardage. These are known as “drive killer plays”. Second, McGarity needs to insist that CMR hire a special teams coach. As Kevin Butler pointed out, Walsh has not missed from the left hash mark all year. Instead Bobo tells Murray to center the ball in the middle of the field and Walsh misses right. All kicks from the left hash mark were made by Walsh in 2011! A special teams coach would know these details and make the needed calls on the field. CMR nor Bobo knew this and instead centered the ball which contributed to the miss.

As for the second point, we wouldnt need a special teams coach if Bobo could have gotten a first down at the end of the 4th quarter. If he would have called the right plays to run out the clock then UGA would have won by 7. Fix problem # 1 and then we will be fine.

I am definitely worried about next season. We have to rebuild our line, replacing two tackles and a center (the three hardest positions to fill). We also have to rebuild our secondary, losing our two best players there. I think that we can land ourselves in the SEC championship game, but it will be a couple years before we are ‘poised for great things.’ Despite all that, I hope they prove me wrong and have a great season. Go Dawgs!

I don’t agree that we need another head coach . Even though Peterson seem’s to be a great coach he wouldn’t have the record he has if he played an SEC schedule. I think he is unproven as just how good he is until he get’s into a big time conference with serious competition every week. What CMR need’s to accept is the same thing he was FORCED to admit about Martinez, that Bobo is not coordinator material. If McGarity will hire a big time offensive coordinator at 1 million a year or what ever it take’s and raise Grantham to at least a million with a three year extension Georgia will win all the close game’s against ranked opponent’s. Then CMR can delegate the offensive coordinator job and feel the play calling is in capable hand’s. Then he can concentrate on recruiting and turning immature kid’s into mature men.

I was saying the same thing but after yesterday Mark Richt did nothing about the run plays up the middle, did nothing about the conservative play calling, did not even question why not one pass was thrown to 2 of the best TE’s in the nation.

All year we have been unsuccessful running up the middle against decent teams and yet it continues. All year we have been successful when we have utilized our TE, We drew up the same playbook from the Boise game and we got beat again and again no halftime adjustments

To get an interception in over time and not win is ridiculous.

The only way you should play to play as conservatively (appear to not be concerned about gaining yards past the 25 yd line) is if you have an automatic kicker which obviously UGA does not this year.

Bruce Sagarin does include the lsu game. That’s why you see the 10-3 record. It doesn’t include yesterday’s game which probably moves it to around 25-26th. But it also means uga was 0-4 against top 30 teams.

I’d love to know why Richt and Bobo thought inside draws and counters would succeed, especially after 3 quarters of failing. Why?!? I realize I am not a football coach, but it’s not that complicated a game. Our OL was beat consistently the entire day and it seemed unlikely that it would change. So why have slow developing plays?? I expected more bubble screens, TB screens, and other quick slants, etc. What am I not understanding?

What is a “full disclosure” article? Interesting? Murray and Richt? What a duo. Special teams [in particular the FG unit], run blocking [thanks Searels, we all know why you left], and a two year starter at QB [how long does it take to get to the future with him]. Murray and Richt, stars of the twi-light zone. Another bowl loss, same result.

There is a saying by the “best coaches”. The saying, “Look stupid, if you keep making the same mistake, guess what? You get the same mistake”. That would be Murray and Richt. I’d like to think there is hope with Richt. None for Murray. Richt lives in the twi-light zone. Unless he cuts Bobo, UGA alums should expect the same results. History does not lie. It foretells the future. And for the past 3 years history has been very bad for us alums.
Murray…we could have won a couple more. Well, mama’s boy some of us look at those 10 wins as just maybe half could have been lost. So what kind of answer is that two year starter QB. How many QBs throw as many pick 6s as you did.

This team is like a tale of two cities, except is a tale of two schemes. On defense you can see the improvement. That roll up in the 4 QTR to force the quick out pass and then have the DB overplay to get the INT was a thing of beauty.

On offense different story. It was more of the same. Hide and hope not to lose. WTF where we running Carlton Thomas and Samuels on slow developing run plays. They have 8 in the BOX! Where was the pass in the short middle of the field. Where was the drag routes? Where was the tight end pass. Where was the screens? All we saw was deep throws and runs for no gain. Why when you are 3rd and long and in obvious 4 down territory do you throw deep/ Why not try to get something more short and something the offense can manage? Kick coverage still a joke.

No improvement in this offense. Especially in the play calling. Like someone said earlier, They crawl into a turtle shell and hope not to lose but running the ball to our midget backs.

Cannot wait for next season. Because this one is a disappointment. We could have been so much more with better play calling and decision making in at least 2 maybe 3 of the 4 losses.

Murray can see all he needs about an NFL evaluation by watching game film of the Michigan State game. Making all the trrows in pratice and in camps are a far cry from preforming under the pressure of a game. Richt needs to make some staff changes and the AD should let him finish out his contract while he lines us up a real coach.

I honestly think UGA will be a force to be reckoned with next year, but the whole “we could have won more games” argument always bothers me. UGA also could have easily lost any number of the Vandy, Kentucky, Florida, or Tennessee games. I think the final record was about right.

After this game it is a safe bet that Mason is gone. Not putting him into the game even for a series or two should speak load and clear that the coaching staff don’t think he’s needed. Same goes for Charles, plus when everybody knows murray is going to pass the ball why haven’t we put two fullbacks in to block. Do we still have a tight end???? Don’t recall throwing to one all night. Grantham’s blood pressure had to be off the charts last night!

Sometimes, I thing the “golly gee” personality of the HC rubs off on the players. Notice the fire and intensity was with the ‘D’ this year. CTG instilled his personality on them. CMR is sooooo laid back and cool, his QB and OC adapt the same attitude.

Despite a great turn around, the Defense did collapse in the second half of the last two games. Not sure if was the other team’s adjustments or just lack of depth. But when Richt decided to punt instead of at least trying for 1st down with 2 minutes to go[3rd and 8], we all knew the “D” would fail like the had the whole second half. Seriously, with about a 50% chance of icing the game you decided not to try.

CMR if Bobo is so great then you must ask yourself this question with total honesty. Would Alabama and/or LSU hire him as the OC for those 2 teams? Heck maybe other schools like South Carolina and you’d get a resounding NO!
You have at very least……………..caused the Bulldog Nation to suffer and watch the most outrageous calls by an OC in football; history. I can provide you a list but i dont have 5 years to waste.
If you are who you say you are and lead by example, get rid of that OB’s Coach Mike Bobo and like your friend we got rid of 3 years ago as DC then we’d have a chance to improve.
Take a poll and ask these Georgia Fans if you should get rid of Mike Bobo and im sure it’ll be around 70% but you cannot allow anyone to destroy this program to fill an ego at the hands of your fans.

Remember that tornado that blew through Rincon, causing $7,000,000 in improvements? Well, it needs to blow through Butts-Mehr.

Whoever is responsible for the “3 runs up the gut and out” strategery to ice the lead needs to be demoted or fired. Can Bobo be demoted to QB coach with his current salary? Is there a realistic option out there for a new OC? Is Richt immediately responsible? Why Samuel and not Malcome? Granted, the run up the middle worked ONCE (so it was a gutsy call…), but the players were so ill-served by it at the end of the game that it’s just heartbreaking.

Where was Orson Charles? Aron White? Short crossing routes? Was there clear evidence in practice that Walsh had his head screwed on straight? Is it female trouble? Is there a sports media out there that might demand answers to these questions? Do any work for AJC?

I for one will take a 10 and 4 season compared with 6 and 7 last year. It could be worse. UGA could be UT, UF, GT or Auburn. I like UGA’s chances at getting back to Atlanta next year so I am still on the bus for 2012.

What do some of you expect, CMR going to blast Murray in the Media? Y’all don’t know him too well after 11 years. Rumblings in at UGA is that Bobo is on the cusp of being demoted and CMR taking over OC.
They want Bobo to be the recruiting guy so they will not fire him. Looking at QB coach. Notice, CMR has yet to sign his extention yet…… This will depend on the changes being made on the coaching staff. It’s CMR’s last shot.

There was huge improvement on the defensive side of the ball which we needed to get to 10 wins. Can’t fault the Defense for getting tired in the 2nd half when our offense goes 3 and out for the entire 2nd half. That will tire any defense out.
Open the QB race. Murray is not the answer. he made no adjustments to get better this year. Did the same thing in all 4 losses. Fumble, pix 6, gift INT. Given the opponent anywhere from 7 to 21 gift points.
Not blaming Bobo on his decisions. However, the play caling was horific. It was the same 6 to 8 plays in the entire 2nd half. I agree with the non-factor on our awesome TE’s… What gives with that!
Peterson rumored to be heading out to Penn State to speak with them.

Bring in Okie State OC pay him whatever it takes. Insert Lemay as the QB-1. Spread out the SEC defenses. No one thought it could haappen in ‘90 w/ Spurrier b/c of the defenses and look where we are now. UGA doing a piss poor job of trying to be like Bama and LSU. Let me have Lemay. Mason is the flavor of the day. Remember he was not a big time recruit. Lemay was a consensus Top 5 Recruit coming out.

I can’t say enough that in 1990 SEC football was a good running game and strong defense. Look what is winning in the SEC twenty years later?

If you cannot win like LSU or Bama which Richt is proving again and again then we have to switch things up alah UF with the Spurrier hirer.

Now McGarity has to really have a gut check moment and ask himself is a 10-4 season where the only accomplishment was beating a disaster of a UF team and backing into a SEC East Title worth extending Richt?

A few years ago, we had another very young, highly talented, often mistake-prone QB, who seemed just as often to orchestrate a 90-yd TD drive in under 2 minutes as to throw a pick-6. He ended up a #1 pick and has led an historically woeful Detroit Lions team to a 10-6 record and its first appearance in the playoffs in almost three decades.

Don’t be surprised if Aaron Murray winds up being a franchise NFL QB.

The most popular player on any football team is the backup QB. I didn’t make this old football proverb up. Mason is the flavor of the day. Lemay was a True Freshman last year. He did not get the number of reps in practice to even remotely show what he is capable of. Give him reps with the 1st team in the Spring open it up and let the chips fall where they may.

Win, lose, or draw I thought it was a very entertaining and well played game..both teams left nothing on the field…it’s why we love college football…and after this game…the unreal Rose Bowl and then to top it off the Fiesta Bowl…it was a great New Years Day of football…ugh…the day after. Please Dog fans get over yourself with all this blabber about horrible loss this and inexcusable that. You just saw a bunch of 18-22 year old kids play there guts out while you sat back with cocktail in hand.

Did not realize only an inch difference. However, you have to admit that the arm strength is not comparable. Stafford’s arm is much stronger.
Tough for me to give Murray kudo’s right now after the year long of bad decisions. Need time to get over it I guess.

So we had good loses in 3 of the 4 games? Up at the half against LSU…Up 16-0 against MSU….never even showed up against BSU….SC? Well they had a 280lb DL run a fake Punt for a TD. So blowing leads and giving games away is a improvement?

Time for changes to be made in Athens. If Richt gets an extension he must let Bobo go.

Mark: Could you write up an article comparing other running games to the one employed by UGA? Why does the UGA qb have to point the ball toward the running back as the qb runs back toward the running back? Why is every running play a draw? Why does UGA run 160 lb running back up the middle?

Could you write an article on Mike Bobo’s inability to have any idea on how to manage a game?

UGA’s offensive game plan stinks and it seems it will never change.

I read an interesting post about the oversigning that the WEST has been doing for years, eventually leveling out with the rest of the SEC. case in point, how does LSU have 10 DL they can rotate and we don;t even have 10 DL on the roster.

And come on, they werew about ready to biuy Miles a ticket to Ann Arbor a couple of years ago, and Richt HAS had team in his days here that can and did compete with them. I do think they both have exceptionally great teams this year, but it’s depth@talent, pure and simple.

Lack of depth is totally ON Richt’s watch, but that can be fixed, and it lookes like we are getting back to full force . Keep in mind , UGA started the year with 70 scholarship players…..thats why we are playing so many freshmen and walk-ons. Lets not pretend that Miles/Saban just know something that nobody else does.

I’m not arguing that Murray is a finished product – far from it. But do we forget that he is only in his second year playing? How many sophomores have almost 3200 yds passing and 35 TDs?

And how do you bench a guy with now 6300 yds and 59 TDs in just his first two years? I don’t see any BCS coach replacing a guy with these accomplishments. More coaching, yes. Higher expectations, absolutely. But benching him in favor of either of two unknowns? Only someone who has been living off a bong for the past year (Isaiah Crowell?) would even consider this.

What you saw yesterday was the clear definition as to why stars like Matt Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, AJ Green, and so many more in history declare early. None of these guys believed in the coaching staff. None of these guys believed this coaching staff was competent enough to take them to the next level – any better than they were already at…so they left early. Don’t you think in today’s money hungry days that if they truly believed they would be better staying their senior years, they would have stayed so the NFL could give them a better paycheck? Perception is reality in this case. If you’re recruited by UGA, do everything you can to succeed your first few years, because there’s nothing added to your senior year. It’s like the 2004 rerun of presidential debates, where John Kerry says – “what you’ll get is more of the same”. Hail to Grantham for saving Richt’s job. But who would have thought that would come back to bite him? If you’re a Mark Richt fan, great? If you’re not, great? Just know that after making a hefty $2-$3 Million per year, he doesn’t care what you think. He believes that a.) he’s better than you; b.) he’s holier than you; c.) he’ll continue receiving his over-rated paycheck if you continue letting him; and d.) he’s all set to go to a better after-life than the rest of us. Do you really think he genuinely cares what we think? It’s a business. How does one sell? They make business personal. The head coach at Georgia has snowed everyone with the nice guy act; and now everyone’s paying for it…because at the end of the day, you care; he doesn’t; because football is not his priority.

IMHO, the season was a product of having an excellent defense and a very good passing offense, but inconsistent special teams and a weak running game. Getting Keith Marshall may help, and Walsh may be addition by subtraction, but losing Boykin and Butler will hurt bad.

A few simple adjustments and it’s NC’s from now until the second coming.

A new OC and scheme, a head coach with a sack and some fire, replace an nfl caliber TE, a defense that can play against elite level offenses, not just tomato cans, a tailback that can exit the tunnel without hurting himself, a qb that can see over the line of scrimmage and can identify what his own teams uniforms look like when passing, a kicker that can get his average up to 50%+ on fg’s, an overall sense of urgency, desire and pride from the whole team.

Let me think, did I forget anything? Oh yes, Herschel Walker to be 19 again.

Make these few “adjustments” and all will be well.

This game really showed that Bobo is totally inept as a offensive coordinator. I have always been an Aaron Murray fan, but it is obvious he cannot play in the big games. He goes to pieces. Why did we not utilize the abilities of Orson Chares, Chris Connely, and Aron White? Why did Carlton Thomas not make an apperance until the overtimes? Why did our defense quit rushing the passer? Our kicker has self destructed this year. Why did we not try to win in the last few seconds instead of taking a knee. There are many unaswered questions, bu it is most definite that dodo Bobo needs to gogo.

I read that post, AD, and was just giving my opinion that those teams also do more than just conservative plays.

And really it’s not just “top 5″ teams that display aggressive offense – as we have seen up close and personal. SC, Ole Miss, and others in other lower-level bowls the past week are fearless with fake FGs and punts. Not us though. We go for the 10-15 point lead and hope the D holds. I despise that philosophy, but hey, we only have it for 5 more years, thanks to our “premature-negotiating”-AD.

Hey, we may not be a “Top 5 Team,” but our own Mark Richt said the Dawgs “are knocking on the door of greatness.”

Don’t hold your breath, UGA fans.

Joey, My point is that when you can’t even run the ball for any positive yards, or protect the QB, or any number of things………not having the confidence to run a trick play for a first down (which I see no reason to believe would have worked for the same reasons listed) is way down the list of things seperating us from being a top ( top 2 in your example) team. You are right that they CAN do those things, but only because they have teams than can run, and block, and stop, etc. Calling a trick play didn’t make better teams though.

Agian if you were pointing out we are not there yet, I would wholeheartedly agree.

Lowcountry, absolutely not Murray’s best game. And very fair to hang the loss on him as a starting QB. For those Int’s. The second one seemed to be on him (although I see reports it was tiped), the first one was King’s fault I believe. But there were other things that would have changed the game, including failed sideline decisions. I think that might be as “collective” of a loss as we have had in a while, though.

Not sure we are in that Bowl without Murray this year though. Not sure he is really the legend we are waiting for at that position either.

If you did not you are lying. 2012 is nine months away, The game I would like to see Georgia win most next year is the one in Columbia, Right now I am predicting a loss. Steve Spurrier is a better coach, he has always out coached CMR, they will have Lattimore back their QB will be better than Murray. It is scary, but I would not be surprised at an 8-4 season. a lot of returnees, but let us admit it the Dogs are not a winning football team. We beat a lot of softies this year, but common sense tells me they cannot do that every year. As bad as I hate to admit it the Division will go to USC.

@wally: you may be right, but I think there is an equal chance that we run the table and end up top of the East. Lattimore coming back from an ACL is not an insignificant thing – and not many running backs have done that successfully. And although Shaw had an impressive run there at the end of the season, I’m not sure anyone would say he’s better than Murray.

The game never should have went to OT. All UGA needed ws 1 more first down and they would have run the clock out. But, what do they do? They go ultra conservative and get 2 yards on 3 plays and punt the ball. As soon as they did that I told my buddy they were going to lose the game. Why go so conservative with almost 2 minutes on the clock? It was a BOWL game for crying out loud! That’s the time to stay aggressive and run the clock out. It’s not a regular season game… Frustrating!!!

As far as talent Goes at UGA. I hope they have some OL recruits coming. The OL ’s performance against MSU was pitiful. They whiffed on more blocks than Alex Gonzales whiffed on 0-2 sliders in the dirt .
Re-assign Bobo ,let CMR call the plays like he used to do when he first came to UGA. Hire a first class OL coach and get back to running the damn ball. That 3rd and 1 that turned into a 4th and 1and wound up being a turnover on downs in the 1st quarter yesterday shows the true weakness of the UGA offense.

McGarity will show us how stupid or smart he is by the length of the contract extension he gives Richt. Richt does not deserve one, but McGarity or somebody up the chain seems hell bent to give him one in spite of his weak coaching performance. No contract extension would be best, but 2 years would be bearable. With only two years added, it wouldn’t be too great a hardship for a program that took in $64 million dollars to buy Richt out and get rid of him in a couple of years when things don’t improve. Notice the use of “when” and not “if”. Anything more then two years would indicate that McGarity is as stupid as the UT athletic director that extended Fullmer’s contract only to buy him out the next year for $6 million. And one thing you got to say for Fullmer. He had a national championship ring. Something Richt will never have as a head coach.

Richt has recruited all the top RB, and about 2 dozen linemen recently, but they have not worked out. (or havent yet and some WILL) and PLENTY have in the past. Just not at this point. They know what they need, they talk about it all the time. You are telling me that Grantham recruited ONE player and that is some stark difference. sure.

Sorry man, the problem with us is that I find it more interesting to look at a bigger broader over time concepts.But that’s just me. I’ve never seen you say a thing in here that doest start and end with “this (name) co-ordinator” That bores me.
