Richt says Georgia will be ‘knocking on the door’ of greatness

"Hot seat, huh? A little cold water will take care of that!" (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

"Hot seat, huh? A little cold water will take care of that!" (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Tampa – Back in July he was being asked if he could turn it around. On the first day of 2012, Mark Richt was asked if Georgia had turned it around. And he said …

“I think so. I don’t think there’s any doubt we’re in a good place. We won 10 games, and when you win 10 games you’ve done well.”

Here he smiled. “Though 11 is better.”

Richt’s team can win its 11th game of a rebounding season by defeating Michigan State in the Outback Bowl on Monday. It won’t be easy — the Spartans rank fifth nationally in total defense, two spots behind Georgia — but being paired against a ranked opponent here beats the heck out of spending the holidays in Memphis readying to lose to Central Florida, which is where Georgia was 366 days ago.

A year ago we wondered — and by “we,” I mean “me” — if Richt was still the man for Georgia. Calendar 2012 begins with Richt negotiating a contract extension, which tells us Georgia believes he is. (About which Richt said: “We haven’t said anything [publicly regarding his contract] since we said we love each other.”)

The Bulldogs have been saying that the Outback is really the first game of 2012 on more than just the calendar, that it could propel them to a Top 10 preseason ranking, that the season ahead could be bigger and brighter than the one about to conclude. And it just might. Seventeen starters are scheduled to return, and some key figures among the Dream Team recruiting class haven’t made their collegiate presence felt.

Said Richt, speaking at a Sunday news briefing: “Some people believe in momentum. We have good positive momentum. In the future, we’re going to be in good shape. We had a taste of playing in the SEC championship game. We need to be able to finish, but we got the taste.”

A bit later, Richt was asked how he handled the criticism that stemmed from Georgia finishing 8-5 in 2009 and 6-7 last season. “As the leader of the program, I can’t act like I’m fretting or I’m mad about something,” he said. Then this:

“We’re going to be knocking on the door of the greatest success you can have in college football, and if you knock long enough you’ll eventually break through.”

There was a time when a national championship seemed Richt’s manifest destiny. He came close in 2002, when his 12-1 Bulldogs missed the BCS title game only because Miami and Ohio State finished unbeaten, close again in 2007, when Georgia was excluded from the championship tilt but finished No. 2 in the Associated Press poll. The Bulldogs entered the next season ranked No. 1 but lasted only one week there, and the thrashing they were dealt by Alabama on Sept. 27, 2008, marked a watershed moment for both programs.

Alabama started playing for SEC and national championships again. Georgia went from the Sugar Bowl to the Capital One to the Independence to the Liberty, and Richt, once a hot young coach, was suddenly neither. He was on the far side of 50 and hadn’t won the SEC since 2005 and hadn’t taken his team to the BCS title game ever. The SEC is about to annex its sixth consecutive national championship, and Georgia has had no hand in any part of the run.

But that, too, could be changing. It’s true that Georgia didn’t play the most testing schedule — it won’t next year, either; is Richt living right or what? — but it’s also true that the Bulldogs began to win the sort of games they’d come to lose. They even gave LSU a go for a half. They weren’t quite ready to win such a game, but next year they might be. All things considered, you’d rather be Georgia than Florida or Tennessee or even South Carolina today.

“We’re in good shape going into the offseason,” Richt said, and Georgia undeniably is. But it wouldn’t hurt to beat a Top 25 team to round off this turnaround. (Though Georgia is favored by a field goal, Michigan State is ranked higher in the AP and USA Today polls.) Winning 10 games in a row was nice. Winning an 11th would be better still.

Also, if one part of our offense is dominating the Spartans, DON’T stop doing it UNTIL they stop us!!! (The Bobo way is to stop and seek “balance”.)

Don’t buy into the preseason hype again. Remember 2008. There is no point in speculating about “knocking on the door of greatness” until the season is played, because games are won on the field not on blogs or forums. Mark Richt certainly does have a great oppurtunity but will he seize it? He came up short in 07 and 08. We should all know this time next year whether or not UGA will be a real contender but until then please save dawg nation the embarrassment of claiming UGA preseason national champs again.

the thing that kills me about Bobo is how Georgia’ offense can look great for a half, then he will completely abandon what’s worked.

Part of leadership is letting those around you know that you expect greatness. The University of Georgia is on its way. A couple of thoughts on your article, Mark. First, we all must recognize the job Greg has done as AD. He has let the football program know what is expected of it. Second, Coach Richt has done an amazing job of turning around the personality of this team, limiting the off-season problems that let this turn-around happen. Other than our running backs doing their best to imitate Ricky Williams, the team has shown great internal leadership. 2012 will be a great year for the Dawgs so long as the Myan calendar doesn’t wreck our date with the BCS.

For those critics of UGA’s offense, it was the third best offense in the SEC this year. The defense was even better as the third best in the nation. Yes, the defense was better. But the offense really wasn’t too shabby either.

Exactly. They look at us scoring 10 on LSU, but that was a loaded defense and we could have scored more for sure. I have a feeling Murray will be much better next year with the added experience, people forget he’s only a sophomore.

If I even thought you knew one thing about football I would let your stupid remarks go but, defensive coaches do not sit in the same look all the time when the run is causing problems you might get 8 in the box to stop what is hurting you and the offensive coach would change to play action or whatever pass had been practiced for this situation. I know this should be understood by REC coaches so I hope the scenario is not too far over your head. Bobo is a very good O.C. I wish every thing Coach Richt said comes true, but I fail to see how the future is brighter when the trend of not being competitive with good teams remains. The variable determining the won-loss record is the strength of schedule. This year’s schedule had fewer good teams so reeling off 10 wins after losing to two good teams is just an illusion of progress. Since we play them one at a time, how about showing some real improvement and beat Michigan State. Then maybe Richt’s rosy words may have some basis.

The Dogs have had so many opportunities to be great and have not reached that plateu yet. I am really hoping next year is the year. It just seems that something goes wrong every year. You can put it all on paper that you want to, but doing it is another thing. I trust that a win tommorrow will plummet the Dogs into great things next year.

I hope the players show up tomorrow with the same enthusiasm and confidence that their head coach is showing in the media. Michigan State is the 2nd or 3rd best team the Dawgs will play this year,of course LSU was the best team and Boise St. was the next best team.A win by the Dawgs tomorrow will help their standing in the pre -season polls next year. This is imperative with the weak out of conference schedule in 2012.So take care of business and play a complete game on both sides of the ball and show the Big 10 that the SEC is still the dominant conference.

Gamecock rock worry about your own little chickens. You are on the verge of your first 11 win season. You will never reach the amount of 11 wins as a school that Richt has. I would be happy just to see Richt and company compete hard for four quarters and leave everything out on the field. A loss would be bad but I am hoping not to get embarrassed on the national stage a la the first and last games of the 2011 season. McGarity needs to bring respect back to UGA on the national level first. Then Richt needs to learn how to coach and prepare for the big games as well as the other staff members. Then build up some solid depth. A reporter should ask Richt when was the last time he beat a quality opponent and if he actually believes that 10 game winning streak was the result of a soft schedule.

Every year UGA fans always say the will win a national championship. UGA is not LSU, Bama, etc. They have not been even been in contention to play for a national championship since 1980. UGA is just a good team. No different from Arkansas, Texas A&M, Kansas State, etc. UGA played 2 good teams this year and lost them both just like they do every year

LogicalUS

January 1st, 2012

“Georgia gets stronger as the year goes and Carolina tends to fold”

What? This of course was the pleading that UGA made to the SEC office to get the game moved. But reality is that SC for the past two season has gotten stronger as the year progressed…didn’t they beat UF in the Swamp in Novembertwo years ago to win the East and this year again ran thru and over every team in the SEC East, usually by much larger scores than the mighty dawgs.

Funny thing is that the game was moved but looking at the schedule…it is the week after UGA plays UT and SC in reality plays five cupcakes then plays UK the week before…but as we all have learned UGA fans are the most gullible dupes around and will buy any meme thrown out so they will run with the we “always” get stronger so we are guaranteed to win spin.

Here is a solid predictioin…UGA fans will grow to HATE, HATE the cities of Columbia next year.

We will beat Michigan State 45-0, Grantham is the greatest defensive coach in college football. SEC Fact Finder

9:30 pm

There is no doubt that the defense was the key to UGA winning this year. The hiring of Coach Grantham was a good hire. I am not so sold on Coach T yet, but any improvement has to be lauded.
I want to note one major item on the schedule for 2012. Replacing the road game at Alabama for Missouri is much better for UGA, however, playing in Columbia Missouri is not going to be easy. Missouri is going to be a pretty good team with a heck of a young quarterback who can run, throw and escape a pass rush. Playing in Columbia South Carolina is going to be a tough game as it is USC and those games are always tough each year for both teams. The verdict is still out on Florida but one can expect Muschamp to pick it up a few notches in the off season to install his brand of smash mouth football. Those three games and the pressue on Derek Dooley at Tennessee will offer some very good football games that UGA will have to make it through next season.

We should all pat CMR on the back for winning 10 games, but he does need to get one of those wins against a good opponent when it counts so the full UGA nation will support that program as it did his first few years at UGA.

Good Luck to all my SEC Brothers, We need to finish out strong this week and show the nation how real college football is played.

1) Yes, we had a good year, but did we really beat anyone we weren’t supposed to? We still stink against top-15 teams under CMR.

2) Murray was not to blame against good teams nearly as much as our line. They folded like wet TP against top-tier defenses and Murray was all too frequently ended up with happy feet. Most QB’s would. Yes, Murray has to improve, but our line was a much bigger issue.

3) We still need an identity. Our we a running team, or a passing team. Our we a defense first team? What our we? Those kind of mentalities can win recruits. If you dont think the better defensive players aren’t hyped to play for a team like LSU or ‘Bama because of their identity you are missing it. That is why those teams are dominant on the field right now.

Also – even whimpy Missery State was “toe to toe” with LSU in the first half – it was 6-3. The ONLY reason UGA had the “10 game” winning streak was a simple fact of their panzi schedule. What is funny is that some of the people on this blog think they know anything about how schedule’s are made in college football. If you think UGA dropped Alabama for Missouri you need to do a little more research. The schedule is very favorable but the fans or coaches did not make the schedule. Go complain to McGarity and the AD at Alabama.

Murray is fine. EVERYBODY must keep improving. Murray cut out the turnovers early and there is NO shame losing to LSU.

That being said Bradley and many ignorant others looked at this black and white and not with ALL the facts and did not use wise logic is bashing Richt, TRYING to RUN Richt out of Athens! You ALMOSt DID! Schultz did too! The decline at UGA was understandable to anyone who took in ALL the facts. Richt is one of the best coaches in college football but also had to go through somethings to learn some things. This was his FIRST head coaching job! UGA lost so MANY players to the NFL early, INJURIES, leaving scool, getting kicked off the team, etc. and what was left explained the decline. It was NOT the coach, it was the ATTRITUTION! That and a damn good new DC! UGA lost so many OL it was crazy! NO QB after Stafford. Freshman QB, new DC in 2010 and NO RB”S or OL depth EITHER year! I mean ALL of you running off Richt and his HEAD COACHING ABILITY, LOL…..

You all showed your knowledge of college football. Especially Bradley and Schultz…..and 1000’s of young and dumb and ignorant UGA fans who have not been around enough to know what they are saying or doing or talking about! UGA fans who ran off recruits and stressed out and pressured the team in the first of the season and ALL of the off season! How about ALL of you just shutup and learn something in 2012 instead of making ignorant uncredible comments the media hype up? I PRAY you ALL learned something during the 2011 season and that was that you dont know jack!

Are you STILL hard-headed or can you grow up and admit you were wrong? You cant LEARN nothing if you are hard-headed or always doing the talking!

I told all of you igmos BEFORE this season started that UGA was about to go on a run starting in 2012 and that we MIGHT win the East this year which would be a bonus. UGA DID win the East which is going to play HUGE dividends in 2012 and beyond by getting that experience. SO…did you finally learn something Bradley? Are you onboard? Do you still need to learn more? Here let me tell you how things are going to go with UGA the next 5 years….they are going to be VERY GOOD! Richt is a GREAT coach…..He is about to have his BEST teams YET! How does a bad coach do that? Hmmmm…he dont! He runs the WHOLE chow and this show is going to be on the big stage and sold out for several years. I told yout this a year ago! But you are so much wiser than us fans who have been following the school for 30+ years arent you? And to all of you fans that have been around since Dooley coached and you wanted Richt gone…you should be ashamed like Bradley and Schultz and the rest of the young and dumb ones WHO wanted Richt out and who dont even know who Dooley is really much less seen him coach!

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU SO-CALLED DAWG FANS!

GO DAWGS!

p.s. I told you Bradley and Schultz that Richt would be coaching at UGA for the next 15 years unless he got fed up with taking crap from idiots…….!

Richt, you’ve fooled me more than than once with your inexplicable bravado talk. Just show at the end of the Michigan State game Richt, you can finally match results with words. Of course you haven’t been able to do that with Spurrier, Saban and Miles lusting to step on your tanning bed face if you met them on the field. Of course you were lucky, very lucky, in that your schedule only required you to meet one of these field proven coaches in 2011 and we know how that worked out. Saved your job as a result of that powder puff schedule with no Arkansas, Bama or LSU. Oh wait, there was LSU in that big championship game in Atlanta, to verify where both programs are.

Since your 2012 schedule is akin in difficulty, or lack there of, you are undoubtedly basing your puffing on that, knowing with your ability that you are not going to run the table. But you’re figuring since you’ve fooled the Nation before, why not again. After all, you figure people aren’t gonna know you couldn’t do it until another bombed, excuse ridden 2012 season is complete. I don’t think you can even hang with Michigan State, but there will be more excuses about that one from you and your defenders. Just keep on collecting the 3.2 mil annually Richt and leave most true UGA fans wondering WTH.

There are plenty of examples of Bobo’s playcalling incompetency but opening up the second half against LSU with two straight runs up the middle was the most recent. He goes in a shell and is going to protect a 3 point lead against the #` team in the country. Not an Alabama or LSU start to the second half. Snake Doc, did you get that name in your all male dorm? What a moron.

Anyway, moving on to what’s important, rumors are again kicking up about Crowell’s grades. I had an in the know booster tell me that the rumors are true, and that he will have to have a good winter and spring in the classroom in order to remain eligible for 2012. Richt gets Mike Davis and Todd Gurley, so this won’t be the problem everyone will make it out to be when the story hits about Crowell’s grades.

Coach Richt knows what he has developing in Athens for 2012. I do not know who will be the “starter” at the tailback position in 2012, but Richt will have a running game next season, you can bet on it. He will also have improved special teams play.

The same stupid, hating posters on these blogs will be one of two things in 2012, gone or will have changed their tunes about the Dawgs. The Tech folks will always post their B.S., but you will see the evaporation of these idiot , redneck Bama folks, and Florida is drying up on the vine with the “Mediocre Muschamp” at the helm. They probably win two or three more games in 2012, but will not be in the hunt. This will lead to hotseat talk for Muschamp going into 2013. Their comments will become tempered as well.

That is a very unclear crystal ball to me. Another easy schedule and returning talent for Georgia creates a much clearer crystal ball.

P.S. It is going to be in the 60s and very windy at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa today. Not good for passing…..or kicking FGs. Very good for a running game. This will help MSU in the game….and hurt Georgia.

Did you even WATCH the SEC Championship game, moron? UGA held LSU to it’s lowest yardage totals, 0 first downs, and Aaron Murray did his part to insure 21 first half points. The dropped passes were not Murray’s fault. The receiving corps that has seen the most playing time this year other than King, are first year players in the SEC. Looked to have some butterflies in the first half, this is what Coach Richt means by taste of the SEC Championship. Getting that experience was exactly what the doctor ordered for this group of freshmen. When they return to the Dome in December 2012, they will not have forgotten the drops, believe me. Yeah, Gator, the last time we saw your team n the Dome, Bama was having their way with you for four quarters.

And…yes….I watched Bama win the 2009 title 31-13 (Bama scored 13 unanswered points…..not 35…..in the second half….when SEC title games are won or lost). And it left a different kind of taste than the one Richt spoke about. I guess losing is easier to take when you are not used to winning….which the Gators and Gators fans are.

Gator, what you think about what the LSU football team was doing or thinking in the first half is of no consequence. My point is our receiving corps not playing up to the standards that it played with all season, coupled with the bogus punt return (if you watched you saw the two blocks in back that were not called by officials working for Slive who had way to much invested in an LSU win to call them), that drastically changed this game’s momentum. What would have been a 21-0 first half was negated by these events.

As far as LSU being better in 2012, LSU will have a first year starter at the QB position, no matter who they go with. Teams do not generally get better with first year QB’s, and LSU won’t either.

I know that having dropped to being an also-ran in the SEC, about like the Galen Hall years as a matter of fact, has you irritated Gator, Bobby Boucher’s mama says “Alligators are so honery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush”!

If we win THIS game, then I’ll agree with Coach Richt that the program has “turned around.” But winning 10 of 14 games is not that great, especially when you only win the games you are supposed to win. And according to the odds, we are supposed to win this game.

For me, it will take beating MSU to wash away that bad taste of UCF, Boise, and LSU.

I want to see Aaron Murray lead this team, and play mistake-free vs a really good team, for once. And I want to see some good blocking by the OL, along with some power running by our healthy RBs.

I read a quote from Rambo in an article from Seth Emerson that states “Coach Grantham is always telling us that this will be the last time our defense will be together, so we need to go out and have fun”.
So is Grantham sold on a mass exodus of D players to the draft? Tyson and Boykin will be out of eligibility. With the new rookie salary cap in place, you would think that an underclassman jumping to the NFL would have to be guaranteed a second round minimum pick to make the jump worthwhile. Grantham knows this, and this is why I am wondering what he meant by his statement. He has also got to know that Rambo and Washington will fall short of the second round minimum argument. Rambo had one play with the hit on the Auburn back as a freshman that got notice of the Bulldog Nation, but made no more impact until this season. It takes more than one decent season to get into the top rounds of the draft. Ditto for Washington, he has underachieved his whole career at UGA, and will need another good season to get a high pick in draft.

It makes me wonder if these guys just want out of UGA so badly that they are willing to take whatever they can get to get out of there. If that is the case, then good riddance, as the positive pruning continues. We need players at UGA that want to be at UGA. Just ask Jarvis Jones. If a player is not part of the solution, then he is part of the problem.

Columbus Dawg…….the score in football is after four quarters, not at half time. Also, LSU doesn’t have to get better next year with a new QB……just stay the same and I think they’ll be alright.

Gator, I have not referred to you as anything other than Gator. I do not know why that would bother you. Just as I thought, you really did not watch the events that took place at the SEC Championship Game. I did not even say that UGA would have won the game without the events that I described, only that it would have been a different game. Anyone who WATCHED, and actually saw what happened on the punt return, knows that there was a blatent block in the back behind the thirty yard line that would have negated that run back. Now I realize that a Gator watching a Georgia game is not going to be unbiased in the events as they unfold, but rather to put spin on the se said events as to how THEY think they actually happened. The problem with this is that it makes you look clueless about the game of football, and only seeing what is “Good for the Gator”, so to speak.

If you want to get to where the rubber meets the road, Gators everywhere are about to jump off the bridge down there because they know that their SEC East reign is ova! They also know that their A.D. Foley has really messed his pants with the Muschamp hire, and that they will have to live through it before it gets better, kind of like the Ray Goff situation at UGA. You all had better hope they don’t leave him in there as long as UGA held on to Goff!

Live with it Gators, UGA has reclaimed the East, and will hold on to it for a while this time!

So what is your team allegience evil? First of all I did not say that Bama and LSU would be down, I said in response to the post that LSU will be better in 2012 that teams generally do not improve with first year quarterbacks, and I stand behind that statement. Mett has a good chance to start next year, but I do think it will take him a year to make an impact there.

Besides a bunch of hating, ignorant people posting negatives about UGA football, it is hard to see any football knowledge in any posts. It is amazing to listen to (i.e read) the posts of people who criticise Aaron Murray for not having won against “top” opponents. I’ll bet Auburn ends up in the Top 25 this year and last I checked Aaron Murray and his teammates blew the doors off them. Last year our defense was still not good and Murray was a freshman. This year he is only a Sophomore and shattered/destroyed/crushed the all-time UGA TD passing record, held previously by the Number 1 overall NFL draft pick. If two receivers hadn’t dropped sure touchdown passes, Murray would have had three touchdowns in the first half alone against the number one team in the country. Why in the world is Mark Richt talking about knocking on the door of greatness?

We’re barely knocking on the door of mediocrity until we beat the good teams. I don’t mean the teams that are sometimes good – like Florida, like Tennessee – but aren’t good this year.

Beating the Little Sisters of the Blind is better than losing to them, and we did beat Auburn (which looked better considering Auburn’s bowl performance), and you do have to be in the SEC Championship Game to get your butt kicked in the second half and go on to a humbling loss, but – excuse me – isn’t it a bit premature to be celebrating our future greatness.

Mr. Richt has made some progress this year, I think. At least the sidelines don’t always look like a ghetto rap scene, and some of the players seem to have character structures better than the average Miami hoodlum of a few years ago. I said that’s progress.

Let’s beat Michigan State, and bring in an Offensive Coordinator, and figure out how to teach Special Teams play, and work more on Strength and Conditioning, and play every down for 60 minutes. Let’s do all that first.

Congratulations for mediocrity are bad enough, but celebrating future greatness just gets in the way of making it happen.

Go, Georgia Bulldogs!

Quite a few have, by the looks of what’s being said on their blogs.

You know, I thought PJ had scored, big time, when he hired Groh as DC. I don’t get it. Regardless
PJ’s gonna have to get that D back up to standard before he can challenge for the ACC again.

Sorry Mark and others incluiding the Tech fans who see the 2012 schedule as “easy”. Remember that we know nothing about how improved Florida, Tennessse and Auburn might be and add to that the following fact. Georgia must win on the road against Mizzou and South Carolina. South Carolina on the other hand gets the Dawgs and Mizzou at home. How we fare in the two Columbia’s will determine if we make a return trip to the SEC Championship. If we win the East, we will certainly deserve the honor. Each year is different and to base it on last year’s performance is foolish.

I didn’t see any improvement.

In the current AP Poll, we played three (3) teams this year:
Boise (Lost)
South Carolina (Lost)
LSU (Lost)

Beat a horrible Florida team with a bunch of coaches in the 1st year of installing their system.

Auburn isn’t ranked on the AP Poll, they wern’t good this year either without Cam Newton.

How long will Richt think going 0-3 vs ranked team show an improvement of going 0-5 the previous year against ranked teams?

1969 Grad, wow!

Could have written that myself (tried to @ 8:43).

All we’ve done this season is beat who we were supposed to beat. They just happened to come along in a row. I’m tickled that we won them, but we still lost 3 games.

To me, Murray has a lot to prove, still. When he LEADS the Bulldogs to a victory over a great, or even a really good, team, I will give him his due. Until he does THAT, he is only slightly better than Matthew Stafford, who couldn’t even lead UGA to win the East. They both put up big numbers, but tended to shrink in the big games.

I think you underestimated the improvement of your Dawgs……but a lot on here are overestimating how good the Dawgs are based on the schedule they played…….clearly ignoring the facts that you posted. Georgia’s performance today will make a clearer statement about this year’s Dawgs’ team….as MSU is a good team…..but nowhere near as good as LSU or Bama…..or Arkansas for that matter.

South Carolina was the best team in the SEC East this season. They’re ranked in the top 10 on the AP Poll and they beat UGA for the 2nd straight year. Should have the best 2 teams in the SEC playing each other in the SEC Championship, LSU/Bama, or Ark, but UGA? 42-10 loss was embarrassing.

2012 will be same ole stuff, no special teams coach, Murray melting down in big games, Bobo trying to win passing the ball, giving up 40 points against ranked teams. No changes have been made.

Be neat to see if UGA could find a QB who trusts their teammates, instead of trying to be the Brett Favre of the conference. Sort of like LSU does.

Murray tries to win the games by himself, he doesn’t trust his top 5 defense, or his All American special teams unit.

And Richt will stay with the kid. The 0-8 against ranked teams QB.

Georgia Tech was #25 ranked this year when they faced Georgia, and Auburn was #24 at the time of the game with Georgia. I know they’re both unranked now, but back when they played Georgia, both were ranked. And Murray played well in both of those games.

Hornbuckle, your posts show your lack of intelligence, and lack of football knowledge. SEC Division Champions are determined by the number of League losses a team has. Georgia had one SEC loss, and South Carolina had two. Simple math D.A. Now that I have educated you on what it takes to be named Division Champion, let’s move on. Now is it cowardice, or something else that causes you to hide behind your little keyboard and refuse to show your allegience? I’ll go with cowardice.

Now let’s look at this another way, UGA wins today, comes out and runs the table in 2012, returns to the Dome, and beats the West Champion. Then I believe that the door would then be , as they say, kicked in. I will not be foolish enough to say that I know the outcome in 2012, but I do believe that UGA will be better equipped for the challenge, and has a sporting chance. I do know that the more desperate Florida folks get, the more nonsense they will spew. The bridge jumping will not be far behind. Makes you wonder what Foley was thinking, does it not? Same could be said of Old man Dooley with his Goff and Evans hires.

One does wonder if there is anything to this Saban to Penn State rumor. man talking about folks jumping off of bridges…

I didn’t go to UGA but I root for them. I’ll have to say that was lame. Except for a couple bombs, the offense was nonexistent. What’s up with sitting on the ball at the 25 – horrible coaching. Good thing UGA had a cake schedule this year, or they would have gone 7-5 at best. Not so convincing wins against UT, UK, Vandy. Pretty unimpressive I hate to say. Long offseason.

After 11 years you’re still knocking on the door.

Review, how many years was Chizik at Auburn before they slammed the door open? 2. How about Saban? How many years at LSU before they won? 4. At Bama? 3, now year 5. How about Meyer? 2. Then came back in year 4. How about Miles? 3. Then repeated 4 years later.

How about UGA with CMR?

But I don’t mean to pick on the guy, he’s a great guy, probably the best coach you can get. After all you are UGA. You recruit a lot of thugs from Georgia and Florida and have an unrealistic fan base ready to commit hara-kiri at a missed FG or interception. I think the SEC knows this and that’s why it allowed some easing of UGA’s schedule in 2012 in the hopes of getting them to the BCS National Championship. But it’ll never happen, it’s UGA.

UGA: SEC please get us easier bowl games!

knocking on the door of greatness… and greatness opened the door, looked at UGA and it’s fans, thought it was a knock knock joke, laughed then slammed the door closed.

BTW, Alabama vs USC will be what ESPN and company will aim for for 2012. There will be no room at the inn for UGA and why should there be? UGA automatically will win the east? South Carolina has a better coach, QB, running back and defense and is ranked in the top 10 (and won their bowl game). South Carolina was ranked higher than UGA when UGA went to the dome.

Even if UGA won out, SEC fatigue will kick in and the pundits would say “but if UGA won out then it’s because the SEC is down, let’s have Oklahoma St vs Southern Cal or Oregon or something.” And they’d be right.

I am a northner who son went to UGA and loved it. I have gone to a few games, but cannot
understand all the hype about the head coach. His offensive co-ordinator is predictable which was
why they lost the bowl game. Here he has the runners going into the heart of Michigan State two
defensive tackles, their line coach did not have the offensive people talking to one another. They were beaten on the ends, because their tackles couldn’t handle the rush or picked up the inside man. Richt is overrated.
