Live from Tech-UGA: Dogs are doomed (because I pick them)

For the record, I also picked Georgia in 2008. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Just for the record: I also picked Georgia back in 2008. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

I’ve seen Georgia Tech play five times in person; I’ve seen Georgia six times. Of the teams’ five losses, I’ve covered them all. (Which I guess makes me bad luck. But you knew that already.) I’m not claiming this season’s worth of close observation makes me an expert — you all know better, don’t you? — but it does render me duty-bound to offer this:

I wouldn’t be shocked if Tech wins today. But I would be surprised.

The two best units in this game — Tech’s offense and Georgia’s defense — will deploy against one another. I don’t think Georgia’s D will shut down Paul Johnson’s O, but I don’t see Tech gaining 500 yards again. Say Tech gets 20 points. Will that be enough to win?

Don’t think so. Georgia’s offense isn’t the smoothest-running assemblage, but I don’t see Tech’s defense holding the Bulldogs under 20 points. (Even though Kentucky just did.) If the Bulldogs can find a tailback — a big “if,” I’ll concede — they should be able to keep the ball and keep Johnson’s offense off the field long enough to matter.

Then again, I’m often wrong. But let me note that I picked Georgia to go 10-2 and Tech to finish 8-4 … and both things would happen if the Bulldogs win. I’m saying they will. But maybe you disagree.

And that, as luck would have it, is why we have these live chats. Feel free to disagree. Or agree. Or abstain. I’ll be here until one team or the other actually wins, and I welcome your company. But let me also say this: I’m not inclined to let extraneous issues derail this exercise. So let’s try to keep this installment of Old-Fashioned Hate somewhat clean, OK?

As ever, I thank you in advance.

We are gloating because your fanbase continues year after year to come on our blogs and run their stupid mouths about our program. So suck it up and deal with it.

1 4 GT,

You would be the first idiot on this board running your mouth if it had gone the other way. I have lived in GA my whole life and my family is split between UGA/Tech. Yes UGA has a large following of rednecks who never went there but run their mouth. However, for a school that has done so little, the Tech group is the biggest bunch of arrogant whiney fans I have ever come across. They seem to forget that winning for their program is the exception not the rule

Well one tech win with chan’s players for CPJ, not good. Alumni must be pissed, once they get behind its over. This offense works in small ball not in big boys world. GO DAWGS SIC UM
one more thing, tell the PA dept it makes u look stupid sounding that horn after every first down, especially down 21

I knew that Georgie was making a good hire when Richt took the job. I was totally dumbfounded at all of the talk after last year and the start of this season calling for Richt to be fired. Ya’ll would have so regretted it, although I would have liked it. I knew life had gotten harder for GT when he was hired, just not how hard.

Teklosa—-1st I am not an idiot, but you sir are of the mutts I was talking about and you don’t even know it. I probably would have made 1 smart azz comment, but I can assure you it would not have been mean spirited like you and a lot of others.

GT Bob and GTJoe: PLEASE come home. I think it’s time to do an Amber Alert for these two.

Rumor has it they were headed South on 75 in a late 80’s model Volkswagen, but it broke down, much like Tech’s offense.

SlimG—-Actually I enjoy “Clean Old Fashioned Hate” and all that implies. What I don’t enjoy are the mean spirited posts from what I think are mostly Georgie “sidewalk” fans that likely never went to Georgie, but they represent the school anyway. We have some too. I will admit to replying in kind sometimes when I know better. I don’t believe the folks I.m referring to care or don’t even know how they are perceived.

Auburn is playing a good game. Unfortunately, they’re playing it against one of the two best teams in the nation.

1 4 gt is right ..we have alot bigger fish to fry than gt. With that said Georgia fans can say whatever they want and if you don’t like it then leave. I remember all the crap tech fans have said all weak about how bad they would beat us. I remember the very classless munson jokes and jeff shultz having to kick out a few tech fans during the week. If Georgia fans are bothering you then write pj and tell him to beat Georgia every once in a while. But until then you will have to take it in the rear another year.

The real problem with GT continues to be the offense. It’s so 1 dimensional that when they get behind their passing game is badly exposed.

GT needs some receivers and a QB who can throw if they want to keep the option. But not many good HS receivers want to go to GT with the option.

@Tech QB
Hell Troy and Arky State run pretty good offenses, maybe Tech was Washington’s only div 1 offer. You know that CPJ is smarter than all the other 127 coaches in Div 1.

I am pleading and begging the bulldawg nation NOT to become hopeful for your chance against LSU. To be objective as possible, there is not a SINGLE team in your 10 wins that can compare to LSU second team. Hell you STRUGGLED against KENTURKY.
