Live from Tech-UGA: Dogs are doomed (because I pick them)

For the record, I also picked Georgia in 2008. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Just for the record: I also picked Georgia back in 2008. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

I’ve seen Georgia Tech play five times in person; I’ve seen Georgia six times. Of the teams’ five losses, I’ve covered them all. (Which I guess makes me bad luck. But you knew that already.) I’m not claiming this season’s worth of close observation makes me an expert — you all know better, don’t you? — but it does render me duty-bound to offer this:

I wouldn’t be shocked if Tech wins today. But I would be surprised.

The two best units in this game — Tech’s offense and Georgia’s defense — will deploy against one another. I don’t think Georgia’s D will shut down Paul Johnson’s O, but I don’t see Tech gaining 500 yards again. Say Tech gets 20 points. Will that be enough to win?

Don’t think so. Georgia’s offense isn’t the smoothest-running assemblage, but I don’t see Tech’s defense holding the Bulldogs under 20 points. (Even though Kentucky just did.) If the Bulldogs can find a tailback — a big “if,” I’ll concede — they should be able to keep the ball and keep Johnson’s offense off the field long enough to matter.

Then again, I’m often wrong. But let me note that I picked Georgia to go 10-2 and Tech to finish 8-4 … and both things would happen if the Bulldogs win. I’m saying they will. But maybe you disagree.

And that, as luck would have it, is why we have these live chats. Feel free to disagree. Or agree. Or abstain. I’ll be here until one team or the other actually wins, and I welcome your company. But let me also say this: I’m not inclined to let extraneous issues derail this exercise. So let’s try to keep this installment of Old-Fashioned Hate somewhat clean, OK?

As ever, I thank you in advance.

Coach Johnson needs to plan to win one game and one game only next year. He needs to understand that its okay to be crummy enough to lose to one of the nations worst 10 teams ( Miami). He will only hear murmurs. Continuing to blow the UGA game will not be tolerated. He can go 1-11 next year and it will be okay. The one win must be against GUESS WHO COACH ??? Smell the coffee and get to work now ! Game preparation and defensive planning for this game was nonexistent. Radakovich has work to do too. He needs to get involved and get this stinkbomb fixed ! Its okay to spend all of next season just planning for the UGA game. As it seems now no one thought 10 minutes about it.

GT looked horrible today……that defense was pathetic….UGA without its best RB……You techies are pitiful……the ACC is a horrible football conference. Why do we have to debate this each year.

Up yours, supersize. Anonymously threatening to kick anonymous butts on a blog because you’re a sore loser is about as lame as it gets. If you’re so intent on fighting, look for some tailgating Georgia fans and start running your mouth. I’m sure you’ll find a taker or two, big shot.

All the pressure has been on LSU since the 4th week of the season. They have been ranked #1 almost the entire season and have yet to fold. UGA has NO chance to win the game next week. I expect the SECCG to be simlar to the game LSU had against the hogs yesterday. It will be close for a half and then LSU will pull away. 38-13 LSU wins

Where is GT Jose when you need him?
1 UGA hasn’t beaten anyone.
2 SEC is overrated and Georgia loses by three TDs against Tech.
3 ACC defenses are much tougher than UGA’s
4 Tech beat Clemson and they were ahead of V Tech several times.
5 Georgia only beats terrible teams.
6 GT 38-10

Let’s see…

UGA ended the regular season with a better overall record and conference record than Tech.

UGA won their division, Tech didn’t win theirs.

UGA will end the regular season ranked higher than Tech.

UGA soundly defeated Tech at Grant Field.

But according to the meathead Tech fans, they STILL have the better team.

I guess all they have to cling to now is that SOME OTHER TEAM might beat UGA.

“Real Life” Tech fans are actually pretty classy. But the morons who post here are ignorant clowns.

Go Dawgs!

To UGA fans, I also will say that CMR did the best job he’s ever done this year. You guys should be thrilled. He deserves many compliments. And Murray will obviously do more for UGA than Stafford ever did. Murray will play for 4 years and will only get better. UGA dosen’t really need an ace running back. It only needs adequate backs to go with Murray. The best addition for UGA will be a group of great receivers.

The experiment is over, time to stop believing the this offense can consistently beat good teams. Johnson has had 4 years to make this offense have the ability to be multi-facted and it is clear that cannot compete week in and week out to beat quality teams. I feel no better about the program now then I did when Gailey was fired. One great season gets quickly lost when you can’t complete a 10 yard pass in major college football. Our defense has not improved, but I dont expect DRad to do anything about it, he doesnt have the guts to make a tough decision. Just look at how he handle the Hewitt mess…

How long will the real Tech fans…the ones who contribute to the program–not the ones who stay on a computer during the entire game–put up with the embarassment Paul Johnson is to their institution? He tells Tech fans to punch Georgia fans in the nose and calls people who work at Walmart retards–contsantly berates his players using atrocious language and never takes responsibility for any shortcomings….Personally, I hope they keep him forever, because he will never be able to recruit enough good players to win big.
We will always run this state!

After Johnson figures out that he needs a defensive coach he then needs to figure out that he needs a special teams coach. Kickoff return yardage given up by Tech this year must be a record. The second half kickoff return was the second straw that broke the camels back after giving Walsh the second chance at a field goal. The game was lost in the last 5 seconds of the first half and the first 5 seconds of the second half.

The look on the dawg fans faces will be comical next weekend. I certainly understand cheering for your team (you should) but I seriously don’t get where all the confidence and chest pounding comes from. UGA is not even in the same stratosphere as LSU. Bet the house on LSU and take the points

*** BREAKING NEWS ***

St. Simon’s was just seen crawling under the mattress of his single-wide, as he just watched Georgia extended its winning streak of 9 out of the last 10.

Paul Johnson had this to say after the game, “I don’t think my High School offense is working real well against UGA’s defense and BTW who put Reggie Ball into the game?”

Tech does not deserve a bowl bid!!!!

hey supersize, I’m a tech fan…please shut up. We suck. That’s all there is to it. When we get a win over UGA it’s a miracle. 1/4 the student body, less talented athletes and an awful defense. UGA fans are correct in the assessment that we will always be an 8-4 team. We will probably never return to national prominence. We do need a gimmick offense to be successful but we probably need a Texas Tech or Hawaii style passing gimmick as opposed to the triple option. We couldn’t even beat Navy.

JB

I not bashing Tech, but with those Gaily players gone, and you guys can deny all you want to, but they were STUDS, this will be as good as it gets for Tech…It’s not bad, 8-4, 9-3, but you are not going to beat ranked, BCS type teams with that offense and a poor defense. Just won’t happen.
