Update: Live from almost-sunny Jax, and here’s Brantley!

Jacksonville – It was cloudy and windy and chilly when I arrived this morning. The sun is trying to peek through, but as we speak it has been a losing battle. Take that, Florida Chamber of Commerce!

A few minutes ago, Greg McGarity noted a singer at midfield practicing Our National Anthem. He asked me who it was. I didn’t know. Someone said, “It’s the guy from Hall & Oates.”

I said, “Daryl Hall?”

Nope. The other one. The lesser half. The short guy with dark hair, not the tall one with the blond flip.

Your anthem singer: John Oates. I have no idea why.

A Wikipedia check indicates he was born in New York, went to Temple and lives in Aspen. If he has a connection to Georgia, Florida or Jacksonville, I’m unaware of it. But enough about him.

Georgia needs to win today. Georgia has lost 18 of the past 21 to Florida. Florida hasn’t been very impressive under Will Muschamp, but Florida wasn’t very impressive under Ron Zook and it beat Georgia twice. But you know all that already.

Something you didn’t know: Florida quarterback John Brantley, who was injured against Alabama three weeks ago but who’s listed as the starter on the flip card, is not warming up. Media members say he was out earlier, but he’s not there now. Florida writers are incredulous.

Further ado: Brantley starts at quarterback after not partaking of warmups. Weird.

At this moment, I have nothing of consequence — or inconsequence — to add. I invite you to join the pregame festivities, such as they are, and stick around for the game itself. And if I find anyone who knows why John Oates is here today, I’ll let you know.

Do your research. . . Ga still has a nice lead in the series.
Meyer saw the writing on the wall and the Gators are just starting to realize it.
Uh oh. . .Brantley will be gone along with Rainey AND Demps. . .uh oh.

As a Gator, I’m sad to have lost this game. But I am happy that this will likely buy Mark Richt another 2–3 years at the helm at UGA. I’ll take his 30% win percentage over UF for a few more years. :)

BigDaddyGator – I really believe you are a good ole fellow. I agree I enjoy getting on here and talking smack. The SEC is tough and getting tougher. When Auburn comes to the East it is really going to be tougher. You may have a 2 or 3 loss team in the SEC that is better than a team playing in the BCS Championship Game. Not sure all this expansion is good for college football unless you have a 4 or 8 game playoff.

Ahhhh, the glorious, glorious golden years. How much would give to relive them over agin, considering it ain’t happening any time in the near future, bucko. Top recruits are stying in GA, others going to UT SC/Clem and UA/AU, but UF not so much anymore. Also, FL recruiting will be watered down the next few years as FSU and UM pick off some cats up.

Have fun as you see the fair weather UF necks jump ship, and there are less and less UF tshirts and UF license plstes on Jeep Wranglers. Then you wil know you have hit the bottom of the slide/curve you just beginning.

Ha ha ha…love it! Couldn’t happen to more arrogent, egocentric, group of transplanted yankees from NY/NJ,and N. FL redncks. WHta a mix!

Isnt that the first thing fans do when they lose. Blame the ref’s. Maybe if you hadnt let Murray throw two 4th down TD passes you might won. Refs had nothing to do with that.

Agreed. . .without a playoff no SEC team will ever make the BCS CG. How in the world do you go undefeated in this league??? I am afraid the expansion will hurt our conference.

@ Gator Pride: the REFS beat you? Really?

Your team had 34 yards TOTAL OFFENSE in the second half. Our abysmal special teams play gift-wrapped 16 points for you (KOR for TD, KOR to set up field goal, two missed chip shot FGs from a former All-American kicker who has now become a head case). And we ended the game on your one-yard-line, declining the opportunity to rub it in your faces. We tried to give you the game and you could not take it, and you blame the refs?

Fact: It is indeed pass interference when you grab the receiver before the ball gets there and pull him to the ground. No “phantom calls” there.

Face it: you lost. And we return almost everyone next year.

Your little run is over. We’ve restored the order of the universe.

Losers blame the refs. Winners accept the result as it is.

Deal with it, loser.

Black Sheep. Going into the game against Florida, UGA’s “win streak” was accomplished against Coastal Carolina and 4 SEC teams that had ZERO conference wins between them. The Gators upped that slightly, with UGA now beating 5 SEC teams with a combined SEC record of 2-18. Your dawgs are in 2nd place in a division that is the weakest that it has been since divisional play began.

The only 3 wins for Richt against the Gators came with: 1) Zook’s firing being announced the same week, 2) Tebow being injured and completely restricted from running the ball, and 3) A 1st year head coach at UF combined with a team decimated with injuries and only 65 players on scholarship. And in EACH of those, UGA BARELY won the game.

I’m a big fan of UGA keeping Mark Richt around, because he’s pretty easy for any Gators team that isn’t severely handicapped to beat. I figured with the Gators as bad as they are this year, that even UGA should have beaten them by 20 points or so. But it didn’t happen, not because UF is better than anyone thought this year, but because UGA is just THAT bad.

Good game all
