No longer at Tech, Paul Hewitt is aiming really, really high

One Paul to another: "Good luck in future endeavors." (AJC photo by Johnny Crawford)

Faithful correspondent Wayne Brown of Tuskegee, Ala., passed along this nugget, and I must admit it made me laugh. The third paragraph of a Rivals post by Jeff Eisenberg contains this quote:

“There’s only one thing left for me to do in college basketball, and that’s try to win a national championship.”

The speaker? Paul Hewitt, formerly of Georgia Tech, now of George Mason.

I could be snide and say something like, “Well, you could also try to beat Georgia in Athens,” but I’ll let you read the article for yourselves. But I warn you in advance: There’s another quote that will give you pause.

Hewitt: “We had a pretty good run there at Georgia Tech in terms of player development.”

OK, enough from me. Read the article. You’ll enjoy it.

Paul Hewitt is gone. Your personal issues with him should go with it. Let the man coach in peace. You lose your credibility when you take jabs at someone which everyone around Atlanta knows are personal.

I didn’t know Mr Bradley had ANY credibility?? Seems every article is “Let me throw a meaty headline out followed with some fluff and see how many comments I can get in the blog” No real reporting ever in this sports section.

Paul Hewitt is the lowest of lowest. He sat on his fat cat a$$ after getting his ridiculous contract and did nothing expect recruit one-and-doners and he couldn’t even win with them.

He didn’t give a rat’s A$$ about GT and road out his 1.3 million each year to GT finally fired him, which was about 4 years too late. He didn’t care. He knew he was going to get fired 2 years before he did and was OK with it because he knew he had 7 million coming to him.

He Hijacked GT Basketball and destroyed a once powerful program.

Now he’s off to George Mason which has most of the returning starters from a very deep tourney team last year. He’ll choke in the tourney and 2 years from know we’ll never hear about GM again.

We’ll have to endure this moron “Hewitt Fan” talking how great Phewitt is cause GM is in the tourney and GT isn’t.

If Blewitt was an honorable man, he’d pay back some of the season tickets owners with his millions for having to endure the worst display of fundamental basketball ever seen in NCAA history.

Get ready GM, Coach Excuses will destroy your program.

“There’s only one thing left for me to do in college basketball, and that’s try to win a national championship.”

I don’t think that’s a bad goal for a head coach.
Also we really don’t care about your issues with Paul Hewitt, leave him be, just write about sports, not your personal problems

Must be a slow day today – what’s the point of this? Yea – Hewitt was bad right at the end of his GT tenure, and the contract (don’t even get me started). But, he did represent Tech well, his players didn’t get into trouble (While they were at Tech), and he was a class guy. People that followed Tech ball – knew tht he was SUPER optimistic. What’s he supposed to say, can’t wait to get fired again?

Actually, he did a great job with player development. if the point of Georgia Tech is getting a good-paying job when you graduate, which is nothing if not the ethos of Georgia Tech, he was aces. he got them great jobs after one year and had more pros than anyone in the ACC other than Duke or UNC.

In that measure, he was hugely successful. By other measures, not so much……

Hmmm….as a former season ticket holder, I found it hard to watch his teams play. Frustrating. Wasn’t a great coach, but projected a great image.

But when I was at Tech, people complained that Cremins couldn’t coach, only recruit. It’s hard to find someone that can do both!

I had a nice rant that didn’t get published.

To sum it up. He sucks, and destroyed our Basketball program.

I wish him no good will and George Mason has destroyed their BB program. Yes they will go to the tourney this year due to all the starters returning but will eventually lose early because they can’t in bound the ball and make any free throws.

He ripped GT off and has been laughing his way to the bank.

Not sure which is a bigger laugh – Hewitt and his ‘aim’ or Bradley and his unprofessional ’stick it in’ style.
But then, one is a jock chaser and the other is a jock writer (of sorts).
Remember too, that MB had his little court, judge and jury act going for the execution of one Cam Newton. Had the kid laid out and buried. Now he’s laying out TD passes in Charlotte. And where is MB? Still churning out the effluvient fluff.

“I’ve played football and been around football all my life,” said Robert Geathers Sr., who played in the NFL for 13 seasons has has two other sons playing professionally, “and if you watch it you see this kid speed up while everybody else is slowing down and he’s locked in on my son’s leg. If you look closely you can see the guy give a thumbs up to the sideline and the coach telling him ‘good job.’ I was, like, ‘Wow!’ I could be sitting here today telling you how my son’s surgery went.”

And the AJC spun that into Grantham and a UGA scandal.

I am still lmao that Gt fans ran away the best coach in Gt history due to Mark Bradley!…He complained and complained and thought Gt was going to get a good coach..But Gt was only able to get a coach who had been to the NCAA’s twice in 8 years and was on the hot seat!.i think after Hewitt wins big at GM, now that he no longer has to deal with the ACC refs, and CBG is fired after 3 years, GT fans will never listen to Bradley again!

Glad to see Hewitt fan is still around. I forgot it was the ACC officials fault that Tech couldn’t run an in-bounds play, shoot a free throw, develop an offensive set, or use the enormous amount of talent to put together a successful run of seasons. I liked Hewitt as a person, but it was past time for the two to part ways. I wish him the best in the future.

KBP

I am a Dawg fan who likes Hewitt and his record against the Dawgs has nothing to do with it. Now, I do not agree with his player development statement because with the exception of Schumpert, who else stayed long enough to actually get better? Maybe Jack? Bosh and Favors were going pro if I had been there Coach. Also who did Calipari develop? Tyreke Evans, Derrick Rose, and John Wall were going pro if I had been there Coach also.(I am not a coach) Neither of them could shoot when they signed on with Calipari and they could not shoot when they left. Most every kid that is one and done has enough talent to go pro without collegiate experience. So Hewitt, Calipari, Donovan, Williams and the rest STOP IT with your I’ll get you to the pros. Now Tyler Hansbrough, developed into an NBA player, so did Matt Harpring. The had raw talent but actually stayed in college long enough to develop the necessary skill to play NBA ball and I will say coaching played a big part in that. By the way, I am one of those rare Dawg fans who root for Tech except when they play the Dawgs.

GOOD POST!…Gt fans don’t have to worry about landing top talent any more, thats over..Hewitt players all were drafted high and all are having good careers in the NBA!…Gt fans trust Bradley over anything, and that trust landed them coach after coach turning down the GT job and then CBG was hired even though he was on the hot seat at Dayton!
