I think we may have seen the Mark Richt era come to an end tonight. We played much better than last week, but you can’t turn the ball over to a Top 15 team and expect to win. This is the second worst offensive line of the Mark Richt era and the one that’s going to send him into retirement.

Tough loss to swallow. Dawgs played with tons of hear today with the lone exception being when Boykin did his Deon Sanders imitation on the fake punt. I’d bench that wuss for the rest of his career. No heart, no playing time.

Disappointing loss, credit USC on turning turnovers to 21 points. Maybe one day UGA gets back on track, I at least liked the effort. I am hoping it does turn out to wins when it is all said and done when December rolls around.

The Dawgs made mistakes and SC capitalized, but for it to be worth 4 TDs, is absolutely terrible luck. And all 4 were needed to make the difference because our O outscored their O 42 to 17. Munson used to talk about Old Lady Luck, and she took a dump on our face tonight.

Unlike last week, I am proud of the way the Dawgs played tonight. They played with heart and never quit on the game or CMR. I hate to lose but tonight’s loss was much different than last week. If a few very young players had not made mistakes we would of won big. To all of the SC fans that is not trying to take anything from your team, you bet us because your team was better. I’m just saying true freshmen are going to make mistakes. They are improving and that is what I ask for.

Richt is not going to resign before season’s end. The two teams Georgia have played are the toughest two on the schedule. There is going to be some de facto winning whether you like Richt or not, starting next week. Clearly Mississippi State is not as good as we feared, and Auburn has no where to go but down. Tennessee and Florida have much to prove as well. And Tech… love Richt or hate him, nine out of ten says a lot.

Athens Dog: Those wins won’t mean a thing unless we beat Tennessee, Florida, Auburn and Miss State.
I’ll take any win…but the circus won’t die down until we beat our tough SEC opponents and rivals.
And yeah…those field goals hurt. The offense was improved with IC…but they wouldn’t play him in the first half.

Last week’s loss was due to the coaches. I’m afraid to say that this loss was due to the players. The coaches made some great calls…aggressive calls. The mistakes came from the players two of them coming from Arron Murray…interception and fumble.

Sitting in a restaurant next to a Florida Fan. He was rooting for the bulldogs. He didn’t want Richt to get fired because he knew Florida could dominate him.
Georgia was within a touchdown in the fourth quarter of all seven losses last year but they lost. Same old story again. Outcoached, surprised on trick plays, no discipline, can’t finish the drill. Close enough maybe to prolong the agony longer.

The truth is that two of AM’s mistakes cost us dearly too. The offensive line cost us…dropped passes cost us. It was a team loss that resides mostly with the O tonight.

They will improve if the pressure on Richt doesn’t bring them down.

Richt did not fumble for a touchdown or throw an interception for a touchdown nor did he drop an int with the game the game 13-7 which would have went for six. Nor did he fumble for s. carolina to pick it up and take to the 5. This was players. But the players also fought through it to the end. They will be a fine team indeed.

@ Dawg in SC – I don’t think anyone would say anything to the contrary. Unfortunately, Richt does seem to be more concerned with keeping Bobo in place rather than fixing what has obviously been broken (which is in fact Bobo).

Personally, I’d like to know what Richt has done with all this “freed up time” he’s supposed to have been given back by McGarity. I hope it hasn’t been spent planning his next mission trip.

Mark Richt should ask for his offensive & defensive coordinators to find gainful employment elsewhere (of course, that’s been said since UGA started slipping). I know he is their friends but they need to put friendship aside at this point. The thing that is disappointing (and I’m not even a Georgia fan) is there were times during the game that showed Georgia was serious and would win. Georgia was just out-coached.

They need to fire the whole bunch. We will lose to Auburn, Tennessee, Miss State, Florida and more than likely Georgia Tech and end up with a 5 and 7 record. The sad part is to have someone come into your hose and beat you like a red headed step child. As god is my witness I will be wearing a “ROLL TIDE” hat by the end of the week, at least they are coached right and know how to win ball games. My wife mentioned having a garage sale and I will sell everything that has Georgia on it, and when it comes time to renew my tag, which is Georgia, I will be replacing it with an Alabama tag and drive with pride.

I played college FB and am a Dogs fan- don’t care if Richt stays or goes. Facts: Murray-4 big Td tosses and largely great game. BUT, terrible interception for near TD and careless with ball that led to fumble/TD. Crowell- huge coming out and horrendous fumble that cost the team the game. Walsh- best PK in US but cost the team the game with Crowell and Murray with a 25 yd miss (actually nearly missed the field). Richt did not wrongly coach these miscues. Players need to take responsibility and be accountable.

Big improvement from last week…but in the end it’s the little things that make the difference in big games. To me the worst play by far was the fake punt: how do you call a timeout before they punt and let them run a fake on you???? Especially with it being Spurrier. I don’t really fault the Crowell fumble…you’re gonna have mistakes like that with a freshman and he scored two TDs…even the Murray INT wasn’t backbreaking…him not just going down and holding onto the ball and the defense not being able to stop Lattimore were.

What i saw was a team thet played hard for there coach in which they should.If they play every week like that we will be ok.With that said AM still has some growin to do,IC is the real deal,C.Washington has no football IQ,Coaching was good(still to much shotgun),SC did a lot of holding that was not called.For the first time in a long time it wasnt coaching that lost this game.Have a good night dawgnation

I am proud of Mark Richt and the Dawgs. Isaiah Crowell ran well, Murray passed well, and the Defense was great except in the red zone. We are a good team and we will finish well. I am sick of the fair weathered fans who are so quick to turn on the team who are young players and very impressionable. Do you think we are going to sign anyone with fans so unrealistic and bratty.

Mark Richt has spoiled us and UGA fans need to grow up and know that not every game is going to be won and not every season is going to be a championship. Where in the world do we have a team that has done that. Please go cheer and boo for another team. Go Dogs!

Still support the DAWGS…Players gave great effort…..They may have been pressing too much..

In the 1st quarter—we had opportunity to a 21 -0 lead…Our QB was not playing well in beginning–not accurate with his throws…Our QB missed Boykin wide open in flat when he threw to Brown deep near SC goal line….Our DB missed a pick six deep in SC territory…Our reliable field goal kicker missed a very makeable field goal….We had the opporutnities–but did not put them away.

Cardinal Sin on punt team for fake punt TD…then INT, fumble, fumble….Ball security—will usually always beat you in close games….Just think players were pressing too hard…appreciated the great effort..

Big think for UGA for here on out—is relax and just play good discipled football…..They can’t worry about so much—just go out each week and continue to give their all…..

As far as our coaching—think that I would just tweak the offense and add some of the Boise offensive plays–just to cut down on predictability and make it a lot harder for opposing defensive coordinators to call blitzes….the last blitz hurt today pretty good.

Consider this: Georgia has only won 6 out of the last 15 games, and two of those wins were against Louisiana-Lafayette and Idaho State. One of the losses was against UCF. This program is in big time trouble under Richt right now.

In my opinion, he’s been exposed since Shockley, Green, Pollack and Van Gorder left. And maybe Neil Calloway meant more to his early success than we know. But Richt’s been sucking wind since the ‘06 Sugar Bowl, the last half of the ‘07 season notwithstanding (the first half was mediocre).

It’s time for Richt to leave. Letting him coach 10 more games won’t change anything. Maybe an interim coach can spark something in this team.

The positive outcome of this loss is the fans got to see the potential of this team. The negatives are too many to count and ideally, going forward it will depend on which team shows on whether we finish the season with 2 losses or 4. The poorly designed and poorly coached team or the poorly executed, too vanilla schemed team. Richt is a fine man but not all fine men have the ability to execute and manage. How many of us have excellent, wonderful bosses terminated because sales or numbers just weren’t met. Sadly, a GOOD guy will be cut loose if these issues don’t get fixed. Otherwise, this will be a lame duck team playing for a lame duck coach.

I’m not saying we are perfect but everyone seems to be caught up in the here and now. Chill folks. Our coach has had his current tenure longer than any other coach in the SEC. He has SEC titles, he wins. We will bounce back. Teams go through phases. We will return. Quit being a bunch of NFL type ‘immediate success’ clown a**es. We can’t buy success, we will earn it. If this team finishes 9-3 in the reg season and wins a bowl game, Richt will be back and rightfully so. The last 2 years we have not had the caliber of players we had from 2001-08. That’s the primary reason for the losses. Yes, high ranking recruits but not big-time players. Look at the number of NFL prospects within the first 8 years as compared to the last 2( quality, not sheer numbers). Now, we have more NFL caliber players than in 09-10. The future looks good and finishing 10-3 or at worst 9-4 is a significant step in the right direction.The SEC dominates the BCS Championship games because we have more NFL caliber players(depth) per team(upper level teams, Bama, LSU, Gators,) than other conferences. Take a breath, my fellow dawgs and let’s see how this year finishes before we fire Richt.

I am more disappointed than mad at this point. Yeah mistakes are made, and Murray made more than he should have but also made some great plays too. The Dawgs played hard all 4 quarters and I am proud of their effort. So many young guys out there that will continue to get better each week. Mistakes have to be made so that they learn from them. I feel good about the future with these guys. I am impressed with Crowell. He held his own against the more experienced Lattimore in yardage. He is going to be great. I support Richt and this team and hope that we can start racking up some W’s. GO DAWGS!

Even though Richt is a bufoon, I don’t blame him for today’s lost. They look prepared and much more motivated than last week. The turnovers killed us. Bobo even did much better today. They finally figured out that you have to get Crowell to the corners and let him use his speed and agility to bust loose.

Richt not calling timeout on the 2nd down play didn’t matter, he would have called timeout on the 3rd and 4th downs to stop the clock. You only have 3 timeouts, not 4. So the clock would have ended up the same anyway. So Bradley is wrong about that.

Better coaching this week but it’s still been atrocious for the last several years. We need a change just to break this horrible slide we are in.

Well, it stinks, but since this 0-2 start was expected, Don’t get too discouraged. The basic question UGA has to answer is about intelligence and character. It isn’t just about athletic ability, but do they understand that? Can Georgia build a program where the players care so much about game-intelligence and character that they become a smarter, better team?
Coach Richt is a GOOD man, and reportedly good with players. That is what makes this so perplexing. He is supposed to be the one who would take young athletes to the next level of their personal character development. Not just a star here and there, but the whole team. You sort of knew this was a problem when you saw all the off-field misadventures.
The hope here is that he figures it out. This won’t be the year (sorry, but it won’t.) Richt should now go “all in” on building team character for this season. It won’t hurt his W’s and L’s. If he survives to next year (he will) all these talented young kids will be better young men and UGA will have a team it can really be proud of. Win or lose. Imagine that.

If the effort present tonight was there last Saturday, dawgs win against BSU. I think that the coaches focussed on tonights game prior to last Saturday. Team played very well…so well in fact that we are in no man’s land with respect to Richt.

Losing is acceptable when the effort–and preparedness is there. 6 inches on the onside kick–6! This would have been a totally different game. That was an inspired play call. Inspired. That level of inspiration is infectious–and was totally lacking in game one.

The players played hard tonight–it is a shame that they weren’t rewarded. I hate to say it but I think Richt stays–so long as the effort tonight is there from here on out and provided he brings in a similarly talented recruiting class.

UGA just does not know how to win a football game.

South Carolina made the plays to win – made the playes to overcome their mistakes.

UGA did not.

Consider the early opportunities turned into only 2 field goals and 1 missed 29 yeard field goal.
Consider the PATHETIC play calling on those drived – two of them 3RD and 2 – and throwing into either double coveraged or locked on a receiver 15 – 20 yards down the field. Why call these plays when your O-Line is getting push and the running game is clicking! At least you put yourself in 4th and inches if desired to go for first down.

Details and mistakes – Rambo offsides – DETAILS STUPID!!!!
Murray not hanging onto the ball on the sack – he should ahve gone down – STUPID!!!!
Punt Fake – STUPID STUPID STUPID – they had numbers for the play – my wife said – hey look for the fake – and boom 6 points for South Carolina.

I went to the game and noticed the score board showing all the former players that are now in the NFL. We have had the talent to win every year. We spend as much money as Fla, LSU, and the other teams that win. We pay our coaches just as much, but it seems we have regressed. Before we say Richt has to go, lets fire Bobo and hire a real OC and see what happens. After that, well coaches are paid to deliver wins and that is why they are paid so much.

You know after today one has to feel for CMR. One has to also be disgusted with CMR. On the otherhand one has to be mad at CMR. You know he worked as hard this past week as he has in over 3 years to get a win. CMR also made this bed that UGA is in. I got UGA finishing 8-5 or 9-4, I had them losing the first two, as we were the underdogs, and also losses to MSU and Florida. We should win the other 8, and the Bowl game. Even if we trip up and lose 1 more to Tenn, that’s 8-5, a 30% improvement in wins. Or 9-4 would be a 50% improvement.

We ALL knew going in the first 2 games were the toughest on the schedule and YES we all wanted to win them. Unlike last week. The DAWGS were fighting and giving there all. SC simply capatilized on mistakes. Take any one of them back and we win.

I hope this is not another “if only” year. I don’t think so. We have learned alot in 2 weeks and I think we need to stick with them and stick this out. Last years VT all over again. 10-2!

Last week I was first in line to blame the coaches. Not this week. The coach cannot hold onto the ball for the player. The coach cannot choose to make a bad cut and run into traffic when there is a mile of open green in the other direction. The coach cannot tuck the ball in close when you are obviously under extreme pressure. I know they have emphasized all of these things repeatedly in practice. But it is up to players to actually do it.

Young players made 6 critical mistakes at 6 critical times and that cost us the game.

Lastly, there was some bad officiating as usual. The SEC and their officials hate us. That onsides kick was a beautiful thing and was executed perfectly. There was no offsides. Nobody else in the SEC has to get that kind of BS call except us.

There were two BLATANT facemasks by SC O-linemen that would have ended drives and were totally ignored. Boykin was blatantly clipped in front of an official on that long Lattimore run. Of course the official pretended not to see it.

These did not cost us the game as bad as the mistakes. But it really hurt us.

And yes last week was unspeakable despite it being a very good #5 team. But this was a great game where we outplayed SC most of the game but simply lost we call that college football. Please dont fuel this ridiculous “fire Richt ” crap. He is easily the best chance we have to win and has been for a long time in what is the toughest conference in college football. He’s been an excellent coach and will remain one. I bet Penn State is glad they didnt listen to this kind of crap when Paterno was struggling. The same with Bowden, Holtz , etc. Richt is our man and needs our support now more than ever. Maybe this sissy fair weather crap is what should lead to some job turnovers Mr. Bradely!

fluke td’s? Allen’s pick 6 was tremendous play. Spurrier’s fake punt was a brilliant coaching move to parry the onside kick attempt by UGA. Clowney’s sack was from amazing athletic ability and quickness.

Crowell’s fumble – well, that was pretty lucky, but Gilmore’s return was strong for sure.

Georgia should have won this game going away. The mistakes, turnovers and untimely penelties killed them. That reflects back on the coaching or lack there of. These coaches as a whole just aren’t getting it done. As a lifelong Bulldog fan I will always root for my Dawgs, but changes are coming. If Georgia loses to Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State and they should be underdogs in those games and the Tennessee game isn’t automatic like most believe it is. Vandy and Kentucky have been known to jump up and beat Georgia on occasion. I can see 6-6 happening easily and that means goodbye Mark Richt and hello new coach. Probably Kirby Smart. Maybe Urban Meyer since he has a connection to the A.D. Win out and they are 10-2 and probably going to a Jan 1st bowl game.

Dog in SC and sarfdawg I agree. I was deeply hurt and downright upset last week. I think I was calling for my own Mom’s head for giving birth to me in Georgia thus making me a lifelong UGA fan. Seriously….. I Love our Coach. He made us a program again. I’m disappointed with the losses, but I think that if given a chance to coach HIS “Dream Team,” Mark Richt will be back on top in 2012. I think this year will end GREAT for us as well. CMT is a good man and he’ll be fine no matter where he coaches, but I want to step out there and say right now that he SHOULD be back next season and Bobo should be offered the QB Coaching position……and that’s IT.

Richt admitted years ago that he waited too long to play Verron Haynes. He said he underestimated his talent. I’ve heard him say things like that over the years about a lot of players. “Guess I should have given him some more playing time.” I knew then he didn’t know how to evaluate players. This is why Samuel starts at tailback and not Crowell. It’s another example of why Richt has become a loser.

First I have to say that this was a crushing loss. I also have to say that CMR shocked me by coming out in the I and playing smashmouth football. I think Bobo called an outstanding game. Why we didn’t do this against Boise boggles the mind. The players played with great passion and never let up. Even after several mistakes that might have psychologically killed other teams. So kudos to CMR and Bobo for the huge turn around and great game plan.

Having said that though, CMR is running out of mulligans. You only get so many chances to win a critical game that can turn the program around before a team forgets how to win. UGA might already be at this point. This game is like last years game in Jacksonville. Great effort, but in the end just another loss. To play so well and GIVE AWAY 28 pts. is devastating. The season isn’t over and UGA can still have a good season that saves CMR’s job if the team plays to their potential. But that means that UGA can’t have a slip up and lose to one of the following:Ole Miss, MS. ST., TENN., KEN., VANDY, or GT. And that leaves UF and AU. Can UGA win one of these games or will they play great and lose anyway? I think the odds are against CMR not slipping up against one of the teams UGA should beat and I don’t know if he can win a game of consequence against AU or UF. CMR’s margin of error is slim to none, but tonight earned him the right to finish out the season with the full support of the Dawg nation. I wish him luck. GO DAWGS!

Assuming Richt is gone, McGarity needs to devote a lot of time, starting now, pondering the question of who is going to replace Richt. If he’s smart he will go after a proven head coach, not some assistant who has never had head coaching experience…i.e. Kirby Smart and the like. He will also have to realize to get a first class coach, it’s going to cost around $4 million bucks, give or take. Another thing to consider, never offer a contract lasting more then 5 years. You can always extend it. One big mistake was offering Richt a ten year contract. Entirely too long, because, as GA fans now know, circumstances can change. Good luck McGarity.

I remember being a sophomore at UGA after a freshman season of only 5 wins back in 95. Goff was fired, Donnan came in. Things were still pretty dismal in Athens until that Auburn game..it seemed to change everything. From that point on, we entered every game with the belief we could win it. Now we seem to be back to that dismal feeling of loss. Last 3 games..Central Florida, Boise St, and South Carolina.

I have been down on Richt probably more than anybody, but I agree with the decision to try the onside kick. Chances are they were not going to stop Lattimore from getting a first down even if they had kicked it deep. You know they would have ran him 3 straight plays. So at least with the onside kick we have a chance to get that ball back. Kicking it deep would have only meant they get their first down from their side of the field rather than ours. Game over either way.

I was one of the most vocal people calling for Mark Richt and the coaching staffs job after the Boise State game b/c it was evident they were not ready………………..but they were today and played a hell of game while missing Alec Olgetree…………….if Alec was playing maybe we don’t give up as many yards on the ground………………….I was proud of all our players…………………..they are kids and everyone is going to make mistakes just seemed like they all happened to us in the second half. I wish i could be p*ssed @ Murray but he was spot on the second half minus the fumble…………….wish he had thrown it away or tucked it but he didn’t………………….people this is a very young team

A lot of you folks know nothing about football. We scored 42 points and missed a field goal we should have made! Can’t blame Bobo. Defense only gave up 17 points total ( fake punt, pick 6, fumble returned to the 5 yard line, fumble returned for a touchdown= 28 points) can’t blame Grantham.

Georgia was aggressive, played hard, and got beat. There is a great deal to build on from this game. Dawgs have lost to two top ten teams the first couple of weeks and the solution is fire the coach? We were prepared and did not take care of the ball and got beat. Not the staff’s fault.Blame the players! It’s there job to execute.

Most of ya’ll probably did not even play football past junior high school anyway, based on your comments.

Hey you little dawggies that like to say “we played a great game today – beat SC up and down the field” – remember – so did East Carolina – who hung 37points and 361 yards against the same SC defense. So – go ahead and make excuses. And this crap about “be we are so young and some of those starters were playing in only their 2nd game” – well crap – with UGA’s so called top recruiting classes – why is UGA EVEN IN THE POSITION THAT THEY HAVE TO START SO MANY FRESHMEN. And if that is the case for last year?? If so – why did UGA go 6-7 last year?? Did they start “so many youngsters” last year too?? Remember – SC beat UGA last year with a True Freshman making his first start – were there excuses for that too??

I love my Dawgs, but we’re in for a long year. We’ll definitely lose to some teams we expect to beat. Tennessee in Knoxville will be a loss. They might have the best offense in the SEC. Florida will be loss. And there’s surely more to come. It’s going to be a long year.

i called the fake punt 3 punts before they did it. our punt return team was turning tail and running and not staying home. This is poor coaching. how come no one in the press box said anything and did not get on to those guys the 3 times they did it before the fake punt.
every punt we do the same thing. anyone could run a fake on us. we are to preoccupied with trying to run one back. the first priority is defense. make sure they punt the ball. the bottom line was that was very poor coaching.

Nobody stops to think about how many leaders this team has lost the 3 prior years to graduation and people leaving early for the draft……………we got rid of some bad elements over the offseason and some of those bad elements were good players but as a team we will better without them in time. People have to realize that rebuilding does take some time, and I am as guilty as the rest, there are alot of young players and players with limited playing time on this team and they fought hard against
the 12th ranked team in the country and should have won but there will be some growing pains people these are kids………….they will make mistakes but we as fans should support them better
I am ashamed of how are fans have not shown the team respect but leaving early, do you sore *ss losers think they enjoy losing

Formula for winning for the next UGA coach…..go out and recruit a BUNCH of hardnosed, big lineman (offense and defense), redshirt ‘em all, put another 30-40 lb of muscle in the weight room, and start blowing the opponents off the line….

The dawgs just have lost the art of putting a game away when they have it won. Take away the 3 TD off T/O’s nand we win. Murray’s and IC’s fumbles killed us. Didn’t help coming away w/only 6 points when you’re down in the SC 20-30 yd line three times in 1st qtr. Then when you need the D to make the game winning stop thay cannot and SC scores.

Plenty of blame all the way around. A hair away from recovering an on sides and who knows what happens. At times, especially in 1st qtr play calling again wasn’t up to speed to get into the end zone. Instead have to settle for FG’s. This team cannot afford to settle for 3’s when it use to get 7’s in the good old days. Time management at end of game was horrible. CMR has lost his magic. He cannot count on his coordinators to pull games out anymore. We will lose to MSU, AU, TN, FL and possibly GT. Who knows, one of those other teams we play we could lose too very easily.

Regardless what happens the rest of this season if GA wants to get the most out of its current talent, and it is there, there needs to be new coaching staff.

The winner of the SEC East will be the winner of the Tennessee Florida game. UGA will finish ahead of Vandy but behind Kentucky. South Carolina doesn’t have a QB who is consistent enough. As long a CMR owns GT he can could until he’s older than Joe Paterno.

You guys gave it your all and I noticed that you ran a couple of our pass plays (Boise State) The diffrence is we have Kellen Moore and Coach Pete. I think Crowell is the real deal (he is bad !) Bobo needs to study the tape against us and really break it down. We (Boise State) only run a few plays,its the different formations that puts other teams to sleep and by the time the team figures that out…….The Game is Over !!!!!

wrong this team we saw tonight would have beat Boise St. This team we saw tonight played 100% better than last week. This team we saw tonight tackled, blocked, except for that one but a running game was established, caught, and faught to the end. Even the 4th quarter.
If any of you UGA fans think that Richt has lost his edge you’re wrong. The offensive line has a new coach, and they are doing one hell of a job with how thin they are at depth.
