"You recruits: I'd better not see this picture posted on Facebook." (AJC photo by Curtis Compton)
As reported by esteemed colleague Chip Towers, three arrests have been made in the theft of iPhones and iPods from Georgia’s locker room. One of those arrested is a football recruits for the year 2012
A gentle suggestion: Were I Georgia, I would no longer recruit that player.
This isn’t to prejudge guilt or innocence as defined by our legal system. Due process will take care of that. But Towers quotes UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson as saying of his investigation: “Facebook is always a big help.”
(And this works … how? Jimmy Williamson sends a suspect a “friend” request?)
If I’m Mark Richt, my new list of guidelines for pursuing football talent would read thusly:
Rule No. 1: Do not recruit anyone who might have gotten arrested due to something posted on Facebook.
Rules No. 2-10: See Rule No. 1.

Wow – it boggles my mind to think that someone would take advantage of that situation knowing that they would potentially be attending UGA on a full scholarship. Not only have they undoubtedly blown their chance at UGA, I would be surprised if ANY D1 school would give them a chance if these charges pan out.

A shame for the kid Bonner. His life just took a turn. Big time.
Pardon the pun, I hope he and his posse is the only bad Apples from Carver. Regardless, puts a stain on The Annointed One II.
DwaginLex,
Not to worry, Fulmer points require that the alledged perp be in a current roster, correct?
Regardless, requires mention….a Georgia recruit, treamate of The Annointed One II, pilfering electronics from the Georgia locker room.

Did those idiots want an offer from UGA even though they stole from current players? Can you say beat down?
Obviously they were not interested in UGA and disrespected everybody with their actions.
Solution: Let them commit to Auburn or UT and then get the players on the field they stole from. Problem will probably be solved in 3 plays.
It is so sad that the majority of high profile athletes have such questionable character. These boys just happened to get caught.

NCAA Update: Recruits/Student Athletes shall require prook of purchase of IPhones, IPads and proof of purchase of monthly service bills to ensure such electronics are paid for by the families, not the institution, their boosters or affiliates.
Perhaps The Annointed One ( not tobe confused with The Annointed One II) could provide IPhones and IPads for all making less than $250,000.
Think of it. Tweets for all. Facebook for all. Apples stock price goes through the roof for the Rich, ATT and Verizon increase subscribers and thus the CWA Union continues to expand. Beautiful.

To answer your question. Nothing to fear other than our defense. You do have the better QB. Better running backs? I think not. I’ll take Demps and Rainey over King and Ealey any day of the week and twice on Sundays. If they’re not injured, they’re suspended or fumbling the ball. Our defensive front will stack up against anyone’s. Our OC has forgetten more than Bobo will ever know. He failed as a HC but no one can deny that he is one of the best OC’s in all of football. All in all, I’ll take UF’s situation with a first year HC over UGA’s lame duck situation. It’s only a matter of time before ya’ll are in the hunt for a new one and we all know it.

When has any of that mattered? UGA frequently has the better players, better coach, and/or better record… and UGA STILL loses to Florida like it’s going out of style. Florida stomps Georgia no matter who the coach is. Even Ron Zook went 2-1 against Richt and UGA. Richt didn’t finally beat Zook until the year Zook got fired, and even then it was only a 31-24 win.
You say you don’t see any domination? Try this: In the last decade, in the Big 3 sports of football, basketball, and baseball, Florida is 8-2 (football), 16-5 (basketball), and 21-11 (baseball), or 45-18 against Georgia. I don’t know about your definition of domination, but here in the real world, that’s it.

When you get Mark’s richt out of your mouth, maybe you will realize that no one expects every single player to be perfect, but UGA under Richt has a poor graduation rate, a high arrest rate, and in case you missed it, they’re losing a lot of games on the field, too. Headley, evidently so since I also haven’t heard anything about the NCAA investigating the fact that 2 gold pendant type things of football pants that are given to Ohio State players when they beat Michigan showed up on a brand new episode of Pawn Stars last week. They were marked with the year (2008), and the initials of the player they were given to; the guy that brought them in even named one of the players they had belonged to. They were said to have come from a “private collector.” Really NCAA, you can’t figure it out when it’s that straight forward?

Don’t worry about Georgia recruiting the “Carver Three” if they are found guilty (as seems likely). UGA has a history of quickly dismissing and/or dropping recruits or players who run afoul of the law.
Ex. Mettenberger, Dexter Moody, etc. It is not the AJC’s place to provide moral guidance in the first place; however, if granted the role, they should be more concerned with Tennessee or Auburn. Remember how UT players attacked a law enforcement officer last year? Remember Scam Newton and his day, and other Auburn players who recently alleged that they were paid to play.
Whatever you think of Mark Richt as a coach, and I think he’s one of the very best, no logical person can ever accuse him of consciously recruiting problem players. Moreover, when he has cases of player who show immaturity or get a ticket for riding a scooter without a license (e.g.), he and his staff always provide support until it becomes evident that further support is futile.
As to all the character assasination by association (Carver recruits steal iphones, therefore Isiah Crowell is guilty), consider the likely sources (think Alabama).

You never want to write a kid off but considering the fact that he was an invited guest in their home “locker room” and, stole form the team shows what type of person he is. It is a very sad affair that can and should not be ignored by anyone but the fact remains some one will. A division one scholarship is a privilage not a right because someone has a great 40 time. The team is filled with walk ons that have good 40 times that still have to pay for their education. I hope this young brother (thats right I said it) learns something about how you treat people from this experience and becomes a better person because of it.

The thing about this crap is that some SEC school, if any of these kids are good enough, will rationalize their behavior and enroll ‘em. I mean UF had had enough of Cam’s behavior – stealing, cheating, numerous traffic violations, and two seasons later he wins the Heisman and NC at Auburn…the Mettenburger kid sexually assaulted a Valdosta State coed, then lied about it to his coaches…and now he’s competing for the starting QB job at LSU.
I mean what good does it do to discipline these kids is if all they have to do is spend a quarter or two at some JC (wanna bet how many classes they actually attended) then enroll in a big-time SEC school/rival and all is forgiven? I say that the SEC itself needs get involved in these kinds of issues and, upon review of the case, say that any kid that is dismissed for crap like this, or even if it’s in high school, not only would have to have completed a year at a JC, but would have to sit out an additional year at any other SEC school. these kinds of acts needs to have some real penalties associated with it, particularly since the league is gaining the reputation of cutting corners, paying players and compromising standards when it comes to football.

Dirty Dawg, you’re right. It’s inevitable that some SEC school will take him and he will probably be a super star. However, at least, UGA can control what kind of institution it is going to be by not offering a scholly. Character and integrity is vanishing among SEC institutions. Hell, even Spurrier is over-signing and making excuses for it . The same Spurrier who used to say that you either cheat like other schools to stay competitive or you turn in cheaters to stay competitive. Things started changing for the worse when Saban returned to the league at Bama. He’s a pro coach at a college and he’s cut-throat. Other schools like Auburn are cheating to keep up and coaches like Spurrier are cutting corners. I don’t know of any cheating at Bama, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I do know that Saban over-signs at the least and cuts corners where he can. He’s a pro coach with no sympathy for the idea of the scholar athlete.

The report a couple of days ago said that the UGA police were after 2 adults and a juvenile from Columbus. Now we have 2 offenders named and an unnamed juvenile. Does this mean that Bonner (a HS JR) and Hawkins (a HS SO) are over 18? How the heck do you get to be an 18 year old sophomore in HS? It is hilarious how these Auburn fans and fans of other SEC teams with coaches of more than questionable character are reaching for straws with this kid and his stealing actions and trying to tie it to UGA, as though it is anything like what $cam Newton did while at Fla. Bonner is not a UGA recruit, he’s being recruited by many schools including UGA.
At this point he’s not a UGA recruit but he will still be on the boards at many SEC schools, with Auburn at the top of the list.
Bonners future’s well in hand, Cheezy Chizik will still offer Bonner and will perform the same miracle cure that he did with $cam Newton. When Bonner gets to Auburn, he will get paid and the local police will get a special hand$hake every time Bonner would get in trouble in a system that was not corrupt.
I see Bonner instantly becoming a model student athlete, all he needs to do is have a good senior year and make it to Auburn where they know how to coverup these kinds of things.

I love how UGA fans start off with facts…then as they continue their post they start going into gray area making it fact..and then finish on just making up stories about anything their fingers can think of…

So I take it Auburn will now be heavily pursuing these young men? Or maybe Florida? Oh wait, they didn’t threaten to kill anyone, so that may exclude florida from it.

the idiot quotient on this blog regarding this topic is at an all time high
FACTS for the idiots:
1.)The kids were there for an open house and only one of them is a recruit
2.)The recruit in question is being recruited by multiple schools
3.)Georgia will no longer be recruiting him
4.)Mark Richt didn’t know this kid was going to do this act
5.)Carver Columbus is a high school, not a breeding ground for thugs
6.)There are bad and good kids in every school in the state of Georgia
Now, if you idiots can read and comprehend what you read, read my list slowly and absorb what you can.((that means to LEARN)).
Now, go on back to your school, jobs etc and quit posting idiotic statements to make yourself laugh and to make yourself feel important.
In other words, get a life.

Funny how so many of you haters seem to ignore obvious facts. Read Carefully; This kid had numerous offers from lots of schools. He and the other two could have just as easily done the same thing if given the chance at any school they visited. He doesn’t represent UGA or for that fact, the majority of students at his high school. You all must feel really proud of yourselves, beating up on a bunch of high school students by bunching them up together and saying three kids that got into trouble doing a stupid act, represent their whole schools attitude. Tech fans: How many people from that school do you have on your athletic teams? How about all of you fans from other SEC schools? You offered this kid also. And Buckeye, lord knows you do not need to say anything about another college, given the recent events of your head coach, and his failure to tell the truth. You got a break from the NCAA with the Tatoo five but I think this mess might come back to bite you in your butt this time. For all of you perfect, schools out there; If you have never had any kind of violation and are perfect, I want to know what seminary you favor? He was not and will now ever be a DAWG. Get over it and post something objectively backed by facts, not opinions. You know what they say about opinions.

Ga’s recruiting criminals? Surely you can’t be serious! Richt doesn’t allow that in Athens! He wants honest men, with high character! Don’t bother him now–he’s working on a new endzone taunting scheme for the florida game, if they score.

It’s true that Georgia Tech can’t compete with UGA’s thugs and morons, but Tech players don’t end up pushing shopping carts or riding the back of garbage trucks like UGA players after Mark Richt dumps them when their eligibility is up.
That’s just one of those inconvenient truths for dawgtards.

Notinlex,
Man, you sure are orginal. I think you need to join the new club, that the AJC blogs made possible. It is called the “losers and babies crying” fan club. I think, if you checked, you might find out that a lot of these so called thugs are a product of the metro Atlanta area, so certainly, if you are so high and mighty at Tech. you should be able to straighten out what society is having a difficult time doing. They don’t choose tech. because they want to get away from Atlanta and therefore you don’t have a chance to recruit them. Don’t give me this bull about academics either, as I am sure Atlanta high schools are the best in the country. Lay off these kids until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Nobody is saying they are perfect but at least schools like UGA are willing to give them a chance. Not just throw them out in the streets. Try volunteering to help some of these kids change the course in their life, instead of always putting them down. Maybe they haven’t had as many chances as you have had in life, but they are part of society and putting them down all the times makes you appear to be a snob.

It appears that these kids had no plans of ever playing for UGA. This crap only poisons the water for them and the entire team ………….. especially the current UGA guys that invited them to come to Athens and hang out.
Since when do non players gain entrance to UGA’s locker rooms or any other school’s??
This has nothing to do with UGA ………………… or any CURRENT UGA player (s) I hope. It does have to do with thieves and they are everywhere …….. like at GT’s Ethel Street or in the US Congress and the White House.

There is a private, well known school in Buckhead and that school is not known for producing punks of thugs. They have extemely high academics and their students
( mostly ) are very, very well $$ off. They do however, lead the city of Atlanta and the metro area high schools for having kids in counseling. See? They just have different pressues on them and I am NO liberal. Regan and Cheney rule in my mind.
Economics drives the teen behavior, whether for issues like needed counseling or stealing. I am not saying give these thieves a pass but facts are facts. Kids do stupid things. I did, back in the day in the 60s.

Just because the girl is white, blond and her daddy is Dr So and So doesn’t mean she is not skipping class in the middle of the day and going to her empty house and getting banged and smoking and sniffing.
It’s everywhere folks. And the guy doing her is most likely going to a major college on a football scholly.

Just what is it that makes a great recruiting prospect want to steal things once he is inside the Puppies’ locker room??? Is it the water? Like the Old Ball Coach says — they get these great kids, and then what happens to them?? This is almost too funny and too good to pass up, even though it is unfair to the Puppie nation since the guy was being recruited by a lot of schools. But any BS about him not playing somewhere good because of this is just silly — and that includes Georgia. If Michael Vick can come back — a grown man who knew better – a felon – a prison inmate — then any one can — especially this high school kid. You can bet that out there some where is a coach at a big time school who covets his skills and abilities, and who will have no problem making the noble speech about how we should not ruin this young kid’s life, his whole career, and unfairly take away the millions he will help to bring me as his coach and this university, and then the millions he will one day make in the NFL once his indentured servitude in the NCAA-governed football program has ended. Everyone deserves another chance, especially a young kid like this who made a big mistake and who is very sorry for it (cue the tears and downcast remorseful countenance of the player in question). You can even see Richt making this kind of speech. Heck, maybe he will let bygones and bygones and even make it for Bonner. Not out of the question. The Puppies need all the help they can get from these recruits. I have two words for the Puppies to chew on over the summer – Boise State. First game – it’s gonna be UGA-ly.

Gravitate? Wrong word for invited guests who probably will never be invited back. You want to needle someone, try ?coach? McGee who doesn’t weem to know the meaning of “dismiss”. Bonner has demonstrated his below zero IQ on Twitter. Guess he could still qualify academically for uf?
