Riddle of the UGA locker-room theft solved by … Facebook?

"We're looking for players who can steal the ball. Oops, wrong word." (AJC photo by Curtis Compton)

"You recruits: I'd better not see this picture posted on Facebook." (AJC photo by Curtis Compton)

As reported by esteemed colleague Chip Towers, three arrests have been made in the theft of iPhones and iPods from Georgia’s locker room. One of those arrested is a football recruits for the year 2012

A gentle suggestion: Were I Georgia, I would no longer recruit that player.

This isn’t to prejudge guilt or innocence as defined by our legal system. Due process will take care of that. But Towers quotes UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson as saying of his investigation: “Facebook is always a big help.”

(And this works … how? Jimmy Williamson sends a suspect a “friend” request?)

If I’m Mark Richt, my new list of  guidelines for pursuing football talent would read thusly:

Rule No. 1: Do not recruit anyone who might have gotten arrested due to something posted on Facebook.

Rules No. 2-10: See Rule No. 1.

Dawglex, the truth hurts. Just another example of UGA recruiting not doing any due deligence on the quality of the kid. Time and time again this is proven. What’s the over & under on player arrests for the 2011 season?

Actually, this is not a bad recruiting test tool. They ought to leave out iPhones more often and see which recruits “can’t help themselves.” Then delete them from future consideration!

Worth noting that only one of the three arrested was a football prospect and UGA was far from the only school recruiting him. He was also listed by AJC as a top ten recruit for the state. The fact that he was at a UGA game day open house, and not on any type of official visit should tell you something. This kid will probably still play in DIV. 1 since Auburn has offered him also.

SSIgator,

Strong words from someone who’s school has 2 basketball players in the pokey for breaking into cars, with police car audio of the team manager (arrested with them) saying they wouldn’t just get away with it because they were out of town. I believe the exact quote was “We’re not in f’ing Gainseville, guys.”. And make sure to keep the little green herb away from Janoris Jenkins all season, we’d hate for him to miss any playing time.

You idiot gators call us delusional yet you believe the following:

1.)Lose a Hall of Fame coach
2.)Replace him with a coach with zero wins
3.)hire a OC who destroyed Notre Dame
4.)Scrap the spread for pro set
5.)Try and convince everyone that your players recruited for the spread are perfectly suited for the pro set
6.)Take a mediocre QB from 2010 and magically transform into Heisman material even though he was outplayed all spring by the backup

Somehow all of this equal a great season for Florida!!

LMAO

I always forget that Georgia Tech is the only team in the Nation to have background checks, credit checks, references, religious checks, and polygraphs for all POTENTIAL RECRUITS before they are allowed to step foot on campus .

Funny thing is, Georgia Tech would KILL for the chance to host a player like Bonner remotely consider their JOKE of a program.

Georgia Stein……

The article is about UGA, I am here to comment on it. Techies are here to get their demented fix on a young man who f’ed up, who so happens to have “UGA” associated with a lengthy recruiting process.

Techies want to argue that ONLY UGA was recruiting him, since they and every other school in the nation was able to see that he would have slip ups like this.

pathetic.

The kid was being recruited by a lot of other schools other than just UGA. He was not on an official visit. He was also listed by the AJC as a possible top ten recruit. I guess that means it is all UGA’s fault for sure. No problem though. He was recruited by Auburn so he will play div. 1 football.

George Stein

dawg88, I like your idea. Let’s go one better and plant a dye bomb in the thing like they have at the banks. Set it to go off when they leave the locker room. That way you don’t have to have them arrested and the bad apples can end up at Auburn for their future embarrassment.
