"You recruits: I'd better not see this picture posted on Facebook." (AJC photo by Curtis Compton)
As reported by esteemed colleague Chip Towers, three arrests have been made in the theft of iPhones and iPods from Georgia’s locker room. One of those arrested is a football recruits for the year 2012
A gentle suggestion: Were I Georgia, I would no longer recruit that player.
This isn’t to prejudge guilt or innocence as defined by our legal system. Due process will take care of that. But Towers quotes UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson as saying of his investigation: “Facebook is always a big help.”
(And this works … how? Jimmy Williamson sends a suspect a “friend” request?)
If I’m Mark Richt, my new list of guidelines for pursuing football talent would read thusly:
Rule No. 1: Do not recruit anyone who might have gotten arrested due to something posted on Facebook.
Rules No. 2-10: See Rule No. 1.

Did they post pics of themselves holding the stolen items or what? That is sad you can’t even trust some guys you may be recruiting to go visit the locker room and not take anything.

UGA WANNA BE RECRUITS are now STEALING STUFF not just a weak college education. Keep up the GREAT work FLAGSHIP University of the STATE.
Be SCARED Cinco de Mayo is coming. Students, Teachers, and Administration will be drunk behind the wheel and walking the streets just like last year. LEEBURN keeps Athens WET to the waste-line.

Wow – it boggles my mind to think that someone would take advantage of that situation knowing that they would potentially be attending UGA on a full scholarship. Not only have they undoubtedly blown their chance at UGA, I would be surprised if ANY D1 school would give them a chance if these charges pan out.

A shame for the kid Bonner. His life just took a turn. Big time.
Pardon the pun, I hope he and his posse is the only bad Apples from Carver. Regardless, puts a stain on The Annointed One II.
DwaginLex,
Not to worry, Fulmer points require that the alledged perp be in a current roster, correct?
Regardless, requires mention….a Georgia recruit, treamate of The Annointed One II, pilfering electronics from the Georgia locker room.
Can’t make this crapola up.

Did those idiots want an offer from UGA even though they stole from current players? Can you say beat down?
Obviously they were not interested in UGA and disrespected everybody with their actions.
Solution: Let them commit to Auburn or UT and then get the players on the field they stole from. Problem will probably be solved in 3 plays.
It is so sad that the majority of high profile athletes have such questionable character. These boys just happened to get caught.

Mark,
Chip updated the article. Only one player (Bonner) was involved supposedly. The Hawkins that was arrested was actually the twin brother of the Carver quarterback. The arrested twin is not a potential recruit.

These kids are now Auburn bound. This is how we get them. Nobody wants to play for Auburn initially but when they are regarded as trouble we step in and scarf them up. We are the best team in the SEC and country.

NCAA Update: Recruits/Student Athletes shall require prook of purchase of IPhones, IPads and proof of purchase of monthly service bills to ensure such electronics are paid for by the families, not the institution, their boosters or affiliates.
Perhaps The Annointed One ( not tobe confused with The Annointed One II) could provide IPhones and IPads for all making less than $250,000.
Think of it. Tweets for all. Facebook for all. Apples stock price goes through the roof for the Rich, ATT and Verizon increase subscribers and thus the CWA Union continues to expand. Beautiful.

I guess these ummmm recruits (?) were only being recruited by UGA? Give it a break. There are bad apples in every corner of life. They just happened to find the store open (locker room), and went shopping while they were there. Since they were at best, possibly UGA DAWGS in the future, I doubt it had gotten to the stage where any background investigations had even been done on them.
5$ DAWG, I would bet you are right and most of the comments will be negative and without basis. Gives them something to do in thier life and they think it makes them important. Legends in thier own minds.

From The Columbus Ledger….
Bonner (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) is a highly recruited defensive back with scholarship offers from a long list of schools including Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina and Southern California. Bonner and the two others from Columbus were on a recruiting visit at Georgia on April 7 when the thefts took place, according to police

See, this is a sign from God that Lakatos was right. We should only be recruiting DBs who are 6′0″ and up. When you go after guys who are 5′11″, no matter how highly touted they are, this kind of stuff happens.

it doesn’t matter anymore (it matters to me, but not to the world). you can lie, cheat and steal and win the Heisman. you can mis-behave off the field to the point of being kicked off the Dogs but still start at QB for LSU. I personally think it all became ok when President Clinton looked us all in the eye on national tv and lied about having sex with his fat girlfriend. in the oval office.
