Chattin’ live on the NCAA tourney, propped-up-feet and all

Charlotte — Welcome to our third annual live chat off the Thursday afternoon NCAA tournament games. The first two years weren’t without controversy. In 2009 you folks made fun of my TV. Last year the Milwaukee Hyatt impelled me to relocate to Major Goolsby, a sports bar across the street, by delivering the sobering news that it did not offer room service for lunch.

(For breakfast, yes. For dinner, yes. Just not for lunch. Are you kidding me?)

But I digress. And now I move to this year’s issue: Of the 65 channels available on the wide-screen TV here at the Civic Center Marriott, truTV isn’t among them. I confess that I’d never heard of truTV until it came a carrier of NCAA games, but now I know what it is. And it’s not here. So I’m going to miss those games today.

My life: Drama untold.

And here we are again. I’m pretty sure the Marriott offers at least a tuna sandwich if not truTV, so I should be OK. For early games we’ve got Clemson-West Virginia, Butler-Old Dominion (though I won’t see it), Louisville-Morehead State and Temple-Penn State. Those are pretty good games, you’ll have to concede. And I’ll try my best to offer semi-cogent commentary until around 4 p.m., at which time I need to head for the arena for Washington’s media availability.

Thanks to all who entered Bradley’s Bracket Fiasco. (Entries are closed.) Thanks to all who dare to hang with me this afternoon. And away, as the Great One would say, we go.

My fancy computer box just required me paying $12.95 for Internet access. My broadband card was working not so well.

I’ve got Clemson. bracket not busted yet. Final four of Ohio State, Florida, Lousiville, and S.D. State. Probably doomed.

Hey Mark – just expense the $12.95. Sounds like a genuine emergency to me.

I picked Ohio State and Florida and almost picked Louisville. I’m not sold on SDSU, chalkdawg4, although other people seem to be.

Can I touch them? I can already SMELL them from here…

Just kidding, Mark. As I am not a baseball or NBA fan, the NCAA tourney is the last hurrah for me until August kickoffs. Anyone else feel the same way? (about sports, not Mark’s feet.)

Clemson up eight. Looking good. Told you the Big East was overrated.

Actually, I’d say West Virginia is pretty close to being the least impressive Big East team in the NCAA.

I love Charles Barkley. I’ve known him for 30 years. I wrote the first feature on him by a non-Alabama paper in January 1981. I usually laugh at everything he says. But I’m not sure college basketball is the best use of his talents.

This Clemson game is one that if they upset, nobody gets hurt. I am pretty sure nobody picked West Virginia to advance past Kentucky.

So this game is virtually irrelevant.

Clemson wins, nobody gets points. W. Virginia wins, everybody gets points.

Those selfish Japanese really have a bad sense of timing: letting grief, heartbreak, death, desolation, and destruction distract from life’s bigger issues like the NCAA tournament and Mark’s feet. I am a bad man.

Do you feel that you have done any Georgia fans a disservice by jumping on board and picking us to win? No offense, I like your writing a lot, and you seem like a great guy, but you picking us is an unneccessary MOUNTAIN for this team to have to climb! Sports Illustrated has nothing on your jinx ability. I loved the way you sold us down the river late in the first half against Xavier in 08, and how you clinched the Tide’s comeback last week. You should go George Costanza on everyone and just do the opposite! Enjoy Charlotte. Hopefully you will have to stay through the weekend!
