Can anyone "authenticate" that this is actually Cam Newton? (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Yesterday we noted that Scott Moore, an Alabama entertainer, has been saying he has heard audio tapes of Cecil Newton talking about money in exchange for his famous son’s amateur services. We also noted that Moore has indicated the tapes could prove Cecil Newton’s famous son Cam had been privy to such discussions.
Today, via Sports Radio 97.7 The Zone in Huntsville, we learn that Moore isn’t sure of … well, of much of anything. From SportsByBrooks’ transcription of Moore’s appearance on Cole Cubelic’s morning show:
I’ve heard a voice on that tape that said there’s an offer for $180,000 from Auburn and this is Cecil Newton … This is what I’ve been told was Cecil Newton. I’ve never heard Cecil talk before … but I was told by those guys [Mississippi State boosters John Bond and Bill Bell] that this was Cecil talking and Kenny Rogers [another Mississippi State figure] is on these tapes as well. I’m going based on what I’ve heard.
Then this:
I’m going to play this [alleged Newton tape] on the air [of Moore's own radio show] and we’re going to talk about this on the air; then let’s get that voice authenticated.
I believe I can speak for all of us when I say: The man wants to put something on the air before having it authenticated? And he wants us to take him seriously?
Oh, and we should also note that SportsByBrooks, which does nice work, is reporting that a source “indicated that Bond and Bell have no audio file or tape containing the voice of Cecil Newton.”
Only in Alabama, kids. Only in Alabama.

In Alabama the Tide is king. I don’t believe for one minute that AU can win the NC, without cheating, by picking through the recruits that were rejected by the Tide

Is this Al from Dadeville. Al, in Alabama the Tide was king, 2 years ago. It only lasted a year. The Iron Bowl, SEC Championship, National Championship and Heisman belong to Auburn now. The same Auburn who has won 8 out of the last 11 Iron Bowls and the great Saban is only 50/50 in Iron Bowl wins btw.

What most of us in the Normal World do not understand is that the people in Alabama don’t care whether Auburn & Scam cheated or not. Not even the Tide fans. Not one.
That i-dont-care-how-i-do-it-monkey-on-crack approach is bad for all of us. In an era when the SEC is dominating, no one outside a cow-town in Alabama is taking this NC seriously. Nobody. Auburn is the Moamar Qadaffi of football. “I am King! I am still King! People love me!” Yeah, you’re a “I-Con” alright.

The John Bond/Cam/Cecil is small change for where this thing is going. The old drunk of a coach started up his buying players once Saban came to town. AU is going down and they damn sure deserve. The hire of the ghetto twins told you everything from day one. Cheezestaw was hired as a pawn and he’s not apart of the scheme but was hired so he would allow the others to handle the dirty work.

Let’s turn it around for fun. AU fans have been saying since this thing first broke “where’s your proof?”-I say, where’s YOUR proof money changing hands DIDN’T occur? I’m so sick and tired of this story at this point, I really could care less what happen to AU in the way of investigations, sanctions, or stripping of titles, but I will ask the AU fans to inform me as to why Cam would go to AU for absolutely NOTHING when it’s a far superior college football program to Mississippi State who (the NCAA agreed on this part) Cecil sold his son’s services to (despite Cam not knowing). That’s like saying I would work for McDonald’s for a salary relative to a Master’s Degree and full benefits, but I’d rather work for Apple as a CFO for minimum wage.

The NCAA is about as draconian as it gets when it comes to defending the false amateurism that they espouse.
Of course these tapes were bogus or not as revealing as this guy made out….
They’ve been over this with a fine toothed comb. Several government agencies were involved. It’s over. Auburn won… let it go. It has reached birther/truther status at this point.
If he were paid, there would be a paper trail somewhere, no one has uncovered one yet.
Let this boring lame tired story die.

For those who can’t quite figure out the Cam and MSU story try and think this through just a tad. I promise your brain won’t explode but if you need a bit of Georgia styled grade inflation I’ll spot you 70 points on the test. 80 points. Forgot you need a 3.0. Or wait… never mind, grade inflation ruined the hope.
1. Cam Newton was recruited by OU, UT, AUB and MSU. The poorest and lowest in historical terms when it comes to football of the 4, MSU. Keep that in mind because later we’ll find out that Kiffin and Stoops both deny anything abnormal with Cam’s recruitment. So does Auburn. Soon it will be 3 against 1.
2. Cam visited MSU in Nov 09 and Auburn the next month, that’s Dec 09 for those of you who prosper only with Georgia styled grade inflation. During the MSU visit thats when a booster and Cecil contacted other boosters about money. Not an Auburn booster or person there, all MSU.
3. Cam signed with Auburn on Dec 31, 2009.
4. SEC notifies Auburn of suspected impromper recruitment at MSU, not Auburn, MSU in… JULY of 2010. So I thought Bond ran this down to the NCAA as quick as he could? Turns out, they didn’t. They didn’t report anything until January which was after Cam signed with Auburn and then stonewalled information until the summer.
5. The NCAA found nothing to date. Auburn suspended Cam on Nov 29, he was reinstated by the NCAA on Dec 1. Now we all know, now at least, that the eligibility and enforcement process run independently of each other. According to the NCAA, the reinstatement process is dealing with the individual student-athlete and his or her eligibility. The enforcement process focuses on institutional involvement or culpability. At times, the student-athlete eligibility issues become ripe within the context of an enforcement investigation. When this occurs, the school and the enforcement staff agree upon facts that are then presented to the reinstatement staff specific to the student-athlete’s eligibility.
6. So to date, we know that MSU boosters were willing to pay or seek pay. Makes sense given where they are and that you know you can go to OU, UT and AUB and become a national sensation and lead the team far (possibly to the BCS NC) but not at MSU. So if you want me to go to sacrifice fame and go to MSU, pay up. To date nothing has turned up on OU, UT or AUB offering money to Cam.
7. Oh and the FBI and pay for play thing with casinos and so forth. Yeah, on Oct 12 2010 the judge in that McGregor case orders all future evidence in the case unsealed. Turns out from inside sources the wiretaps from that investigation do not implicate McGregor for a pay-for-play scheme and notice no news reports to date mention wiretaps having been used as a part of the investigation into recruitment violations.
So what you’re left with, is a bunch of nothing except a few things we know for sure – a MSU booster was willing to get money for Cecil and called other boosters to make it happen, Cecil participated in some manner, nothing credible has come out about Auburn or any other school offering Cam money, NCAA reinstated Cam and Auburn beat the hell out of Georgia on the way to the BCS National Championship and dawg fans are still crying about it.

Bradley is reporting what is an authentic story, this guy out of HSV says he has a tape that will prove, as he said on 680, that Cam ABSOLUTELY was a part of the pay-for-play at MSU. That’s a legit story. The fact that it’s being ridiculed all over the country, and with 680 today, as another example of the Alabama side of the Auburn-Alabama rivalry getting out of control. Kind of like Al from Dadeville.
