Money doesn’t have to change hands. All you have to do is ask for money and your ineligible.

For those of you keeping track of the Auburn spin at home, I think this tracks the excuse-o-meter to date:

1) Story of pay for play breaks in early November: “It’s all b.s. Bunch of crap; everyone is jealous of our season.”

2) Kenny Rogers goes on the record about Cecil shopping Cam: “Cam and Cecil knew nothing about this. Rogers is a lowlife looking for a payday.”

3) Cecil then admits that he shopped Cam and NCAA concludes Cecil shopped Cam: “Cam knew nothing; no money changed hands. His sorry father made a mistake but Cam didn’t know.”

4) Continued rumors and now a set date that tapes will be released showing Cam had knowledge he was shopped: “No money changed hands; Scott Moore is a lowlife looking for a payday; we won it on the field.”

Keep spinning auburn fans; no one believes your story. Lying to the NCAA is a bad idea. Cam did not go to auburn for free.

Oh, and work on those excuses about the NCAA investigating your recruiting in Louisiana (see Fox sports story) and Arkansas.

If he has the tapes…prove it. Don’t drag this out for 2 weeks. I am calling bull on this. I’ve been hearing about this guy way too long. Everyone wants their 15min of fame.

As far as the combine goes…who cares he went 11 for whatever. Who were the receivers he was using? How fast are those kids…there are alot of intangibles while doing the combine..hence why so many top QBs dont do it…they wait till pro day at their school.

GTBob, review the hbo special coming out..you’re little off on what they are going to be talking about.

Also, how is AU the bad guy? Guy said nothing about AU giving money on those so called tapes…but if they are true and comes out then AU will have to forfeit the title b/c of what went on with Miss st. NOT AT AUBURN.

1. Auburn is NEVER mentioned in any way shape or form in the tapes.
2. In fact it is UT (vols)that is mentioned for offering Cecil $ 200,000 but he was willing to give state a 10 percent discount. Have you heard one single word about the Vols????? Me neither. SHOCKING.

John Bond has had these alleged tapes for over a year and could have released them at any time. Now they are going to be aired in 2 weeks on a radio show hosted by an obscure personality?
Way too much hearsay and personal agendas going on in this case.
The FBI has more important things to work on than this (like terrorism and Wall Street crime) but it would be nice if they put wiretapping charges on Bond (he claims he has phone tapes) and then started having people testify under oath in front of a grand jury.

The tape is BS. If the NCAA indeed reviewed the tape then it is of no consequence.

This whole issue is simply exaccerbated by the fact that the NCAA has a “compliance office” with about 3 individuals charged with keeping “amateur” sports “amateur” when the entire premise of thier job is flawed becuase anyone on athletic scholarship is infact paid a sum to play their sport.

The NCAA is the problem.

Go figure a fawned over athlete would be arrogant. He’s certainly got a right to be, nothing he said was incorrect.

We have an interview done by ANOTHER local Georgia newspaper, where the CFO of Cecil Newton’s church states for the record….that she has NO IDEA where the money came from to pay for the repairs. Really ???? The CFO has no idea…where the money came from ????

Well now, exactly HOW did the Contractors get paid? Cash, check, credit card ????

All this brings us to the MOST IMPORTANT Lesson of all:

NCAA slaps Auburn with probation, scholarship loss
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — The NCAA put Auburn’s basketball program on probation for two years on Tuesday, when the organization also announced it was cutting one scholarship but clearing the university of major rules violations.
Auburn was exonerated of accusations involving large sums of money and expensive cars given to high school prospects Chadd Moore and Jackie Butler. But the NCAA found that an AAU coach, Mark Komara, was acting as a representative of Auburn when arranged to wire $3,125 for Butler and get a 1996 Dodge Stratus for Moore.

Komara is believed to be the first summer league basketball coach designated a representative of a school, said Thomas Yeager, chairman of the NCAA’s Division I Committee on Infractions.

The university, which denied the major accusations, already had imposed its own penalties, including the loss of one scholarship for the 2004-05 season. The NCAA cut that scholarship for 2005-06, too, but did not ban postseason play or televised games.

The NCAA cleared Auburn assistant coach Shannon Weaver of offering $50,000 and a car to Moore’s mother. Auburn also was found innocent on charges of offering Butler $70,000 and a car worth more than $40,000.

Neither player made official visits to Auburn, and the university had maintained that neither was offered a scholarship. Both were sophomores at the time of the alleged offers.

Auburn provided records to the NCAA that the university maintains show Weaver was actually under the care of a dentist in Scottsboro when he allegedly made the offer to Moore’s mother, Clara Moore.

Coach Cliff Ellis, who was not implicated by the NCAA, was fired March 18 and replaced by former Chattanooga coach Jeff Lebo.

Auburn interim president Edward Richardson called the sanctions “reasonable, balanced and fair,” and added, “I’m confident that Coach (Jeff) Lebo and his excellent staff will build a successful program.”

Moore and Butler played summer ball for Komara, who the NCAA alleged was a representative of Auburn and was involved in improper recruitment.

Yeager said there was ample evidence to show Auburn coaches’ contact with Komara surpassed their relationships with others involved in recruiting. Among the examples he cited were telephone records showing Auburn coaches made more than 1,100 calls to Komara and fewer than 200 to others involved with recruiting. Yeager also said Auburn coaches helped make hotel and airline reservations that Komara paid for.

Although the NCAA acknowledges high school and summer league coaches play a special role in college recruiting, Yeager said, Komara’s actions exceeded that role.

Mike Walker, a Mississippi sports agent, made the initial allegations in March 2001.

Where’s the news here?? Cecil shopped Cam to MSU. That’s been pretty much acknowledged and confirmed by everyone from MSU to AU to the SEC to the NCAA. The NCAA stated that based on their review of information available back in November including an interview with Bell, Bond, and Rogers that there was no evidence of wrongdoing by Auburn or proof that Cam knew. Even Bond, the guy with the tapes, said he never talked to Cam or Cecil. If there was something there that implicated AU and not MSU, Bond would have had no reason to withhold it from the NCAA (there’s a hint there). Tapes in two weeks sounds a lot like an AJC article in three weeks. It’s easy to keep everybody in suspsense when you keep dangling the carrot out in front. Oh, and for the conspiracists out there, after all this time, do you think it would be really hard to fabricate a tape full of damning evidence with the aid of modern technology? I think not. Just more fun for all of us. Bottom line is until the NCAA tells AU they are under investigation and there are some findings by an official body, all this stuff does is motivate the Harvey Updykes of the world. Congratulations Mr Moore.

@TM, who is going to offer a defense? From either Newtons position now, it gains them nothing. They’re on to the NFL. What happened in college really means little to them now. Auburn?? What are they supposed to defend against? They’ve not been accused of wrongdoing. I’m sure universities aren’t in the business of trying to squelch every internet hack that has an opinion. This is an example of how the modern information age can be detrimental. It’s easy for someone to sit in their mother’s basement and sling accusations via rumor and innuendo all day long. Paul in RDU, and that is material to the discussion how? Like I said before, I don’t know what’s on the tapes and neither do you. And no one but the FBI knows what they’ve entered as evidence and what they haven’t. If these tapes are legit, they might have been made by a private party and not the FBI and, thus, open for public consumption.

Tell me Paul, do you think that AU’s innocent? Do you think that Cecil Newton was shopping Cam to the highest bidder, and they just dropped all of that for him to play at AU (for one semester) for free!?!? Do you really believe that?!?!!? And if they paid Cam Newton, do you really believe that they don’t pay the other players? Now consider this before you answer. AU has a history of paying players. If all of this was going on at Bama, do you think you’d be wanting the NCAA to “correct” the situation.

This is the week when the Alabama Federal Judge is hearing arguments as to whether the FBI wiretaps will be allowed in as evidence in the political bribery case against Uncle Milty McGregor, et.,al. That’s where the real skinny is on p-f-p…of course we don’t know when, or even if, the portions of the taps that involve AU and the ‘bots’, Trooper, and the rest will be made public, but it’ll, at least, be leaked and even tougher to explain away…of course everybody at AU is still ‘lawyered up’, so we won’t be hearing anything other than – ‘All we know is that Cam was declared eligible, and we won the National Championship…War Eagle’…right up until ‘The End’.

Auburn has had five successful coaches since 1955: Shug Jordan, Pat Dye, Terry Bowden, Tommy Tuberville and now Gene Chizik.

Every one of them has been investigated for, suspected of, admitted to or charged with possibly paying or buying football players at one time or another. All of these coaches except Shug Jordan have one thing in common: They were hired and/or fired during the reign of Auburn’s powerful Board of Trustees President, Bobby Lowder.

Money and success on the football field seem to go hand in hand at Auburn, and even some of Auburn’s recruiting practices insinuate there is money to be had at Auburn. Take, for example, the use of stretch limousines used by Auburn coaches when visiting recruits off campus.

Auburn has had seven major NCAA violations in its past, most involving paying and buying athletes.

This makes Auburn by far the worst NCAA violator in the SEC, yet Auburn fans bristle and act indignant if someone dares to suggest that Auburn could be involved in the Cam and Cecil Newton pay for play situation.

Auburn fans remind anyone who dares accuse Auburn of any wrongdoing involving Cecil Newton or anyone claiming that Cam Newton was aware of what his father was up to that there is no proof.

The NCAA did say, “Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity.”

Yet it is impossible to ignore these facts: On the one hand you have the Newtons actively soliciting money, and on the other hand you have Auburn, a school that has been involved in buying and paying football players for decades.

I know that Cecil Newton has only admitted soliciting money from Mississippi State, but it is hard to forget which team Cam Newton played for in 2010, and it is hard to forget Auburn’s history of paying players.

The NCAA investigation continues, and what they will find if anything is anyone’s guess, but those familiar with Auburn’s past know that anything is possible when you mix athletes with their hands out and wealthy men who love their college football and their school.

Was Cam Newton’s recruitment by Auburn legitimate, or is Auburn still willing to buy success at any price?

That is the $180,000 question.

Auburn folks know deep down that the program is dirty. But the obsession over watching Bama’s success over the years has really gotten to them. Could you imagine what it’s like being second best in the state for so long? (just ask Tech)

Auburn pays players…….duh! They paid Cam Newton $200,000 or so to play there. It’ll come out one day. Auburn may very well get to keep their trophy. But the *NC is not objective. It’s influenced by the opinions of college football fans, writers, coaches, etc. from all over the country.

I was in line at a store behind a guy with a Univ. of Oregon cap on the other day. We started talking football and the subject of AU cheating immediately came up. It’s all over the country!

If AU does get to keep the *NC trophy, it will always be a hollow victory. It is not deserved because it was won under mass cheating circumstances. Everyone knows it. And since the NC is “mythical” and thus subjective, AU’s has been erased in the court of public opinion. AU fans can deny, deny, deny, but everyone else knows it.

State of georgia (and ecspecially UGA fans) needs to realize this state sucks at football and will never win another natty title!! Get over it and stop trying to bring down schools that actually have a good football program. All schools cheat and the ones that win national titles are the ones that don’t get caught (ala AJ Green). All schools and booster give money to athletes. There called sluch funds ppl and you must be dumber than dirt to believe UGA doesn’t have any. Buckeye is a poster made up by a *UA fan. Why would any OSU fan have that kind of venom about this subject.

My brother-in-law is an Oregon grad. Even before *AU and Oregon were matched up, he was asking about the Cam Newton situation. Said that most folks out West have a very low opinion of *AU. He even knew about the Milt McGreggor slant.

If *AU’s not dirty, they sure have a huge public relations problem. But I think the problem stems from the dirt.

AnotherOpinion2- you probably believed that Mark McGwire didn’t take steroids either. He spoke under oath that he was not going to talk about the past… blah-blah-blah. But as soon as something could benefit him, he admitted taking Roids. I don’t know about you, but if i am accused of breaking rules and i did not. I am going to make sure everyone knows i did not.
The NCAA found Mr. Newton guilty of brokering money from MSU, which is a violation they ignored because they believed Cam “didn’t know” what was going on. I don’t buy it and I am not alone.

Like I said, i am for any evidence that proves either side. And i welcome it.

For the record, it’d taken a lot more than a scholarship to get me to go to Mississippi St. too.

but to go to Auburn? I’d pay to go there.

To go to Georgia? A lot of money, a lot of concubines, I never have to wear red, I get to spell dogs correctly, my degree can be put hidden from view and I might consider it. At least I know with all of the grade inflation it should be pretty easy.

Did anyone here the interview with Scott Moore today on 680 the Fan? It was hard to tell what to make of the guy. He says he is waiting two weeks to try and verify the authenticity of the tapes. He did not say how he was going to do that. He did make a point of saying that John Bond was one of the originators of the tapes, and that Buck Belue could vouch for his (Bond’s) integrity. He also said he knew the fact that he did impressions for a living would cause many to question whether it was him on the tapes. This will be interesting to see how it turns out. Both sides seem so questionable in this, it is impossible to tell.

Where you guys danced the Soulja Boy during the entire 4th quarter? Rubbing it in Auburn’s face the whole time while carrying on like a group of street thugs? Well payback is a b**** isn’t it? As far as AU fans are concerned this whole season was payback for getting left out in ‘04 after going undefeated. Do you think the Aubies really care what a bunch of jealous, biased, disgruntled UGA fans think about their NC? They won it on the field and no matter what comes out they will always have that to hang their hat on. The question is what do UGA fans have to hang their hat on? The other guy cheated? Ask yourself this: What if the shoe were on the other foot & Cam went to UGA instead of AU? Then let’s say there were allegations that his dad shopped him to the LSU Tigers or the Tenn. I used to have UGA as my second favorite team. Ever since Mark Richt came to UGA from FSU and brought the thugism that school is famous for with him, things have gone way downhill in Athens.

Dawgs, you used to be a good rival. These days all you are is a bunch of whining losers with a gang of jailbirds for players and a head coach that encourages hoodlums.

I see Ealey is back on the team. A real coach, like Gene Chizik, gives them one chance and then they are gone. I guess if Richt started kicking his criminals off the team after just two offenses he wouldn’t have enough to play.

Here’s a tip: Y’all sound like a bunch of second graders on a playground with all this “The FBI will get you” crap. Get something that at least sounds mature.

There is no FBI investigation that concerns Auburn. There is not now nor has there been a recent NCAA investigation of Auburn. There has not been one scrap of evidence that Auburn did anything wrong.

None of this matters. Even if there is an audio tape of Cecil Newton, and EVEN IF we hear “hi, this is Cam Newton”, it won’t matter. Sure Auburn will lose the National Title, sure there may be some kind of “fine” on Cam and/or Cecil. Again it won’t matter…why?? Because all Cam Newton cares about is Cam Newton. All Cecil Newton cares about is Cam Newton’s potential (and likely) money. Auburn losing the title does not effect Cam Newton. He may even have to give back the Heisman, so what. He still will make a freaky amount of money in the NFL. However, it’s only a matter of time for Cam’s arrogance and his father’s (and others) lack of guidance that will inevitably be the downfall. He’ll get his contract, freaky money, no one to tell him about saving for the future. He’ll give most to his dad, probably buy some rims, a few houses etc. His lack of maturity and ability to learn at the professional level will make for a short lived career. With no idea on how fiscal responsibility works, he’ll be at best a novelty.
