The SEC breaks down thusly: There’s Auburn, which is feeling good about itself, and there are fans of the 11 other schools who are convinced the Tigers’ BCS title was ill-gotten. For Auburn folks, shrugging off the latest report of wrongdoing has become standard operating procedure. For fans of those 11 other schools, any new nugget offers yet another reason to shout, “See? Told you!”
Fans of the other 11, here’s your latest cue.
SportsByBrooks reported Tuesday that former player Stanley McClover has told “HBO Real Sports” that he received money while enrolled at Auburn from a Tiger assistant coach. (SBB doesn’t name the assistant coach but says McClover will. SBB also notes the assistant coach no longer works at Auburn.)
This wouldn’t seem to endanger the 2010 BCS title, given that McClover left Auburn in January 2006. Cam Newton was in high school, and coach Gene Chizik had just helped Texas win the 2005 BCS title as defensive coordinator. And there’s ordinarily a four-year NCAA statute of limitations. But SBB believes a pay-for-play charge “may leave the door open for the NCAA to pursue an allegation made after the standard four-year period has expired.”
Then again, we were just given cause to see that the NCAA’s punitive power can be rather puny. Jim Calhoun, the winner of two national championships, was slapped by the NCAA for “failing to create an atmosphere of compliance.” Put more simply, the UConn Huskies broke various recruiting rules (regarding phone calls, text messages and inducements) and the Hall of Fame coach stood benignly by. This would seem a huge deal, would it not?
UConn’s penalty: Some lost scholarships, some recruiting restrictions, a three-game suspension for Calhoun in Big East play next season … but no ban on postseason play.
And get this: Calhoun was upset by the severity of the penalty.
Sometimes we regard the NCAA investigative crew as the Scotland Yard of sports, but something has to drop in its lap — the UConn investigation was spawned by a Yahoo! Sports report — for the hounds to be loosed. And even then the NCAA is often unable to find concrete evidence. (That’s because wrongdoers are pretty good at concealing their tracks, and the NCAA lacks subpoena power over private citizens.)
Bruce Pearl lied to NCAA investigators and is still coaching Tennessee basketball. Yes, he was suspended eight league games by the SEC — the conference-wide joke was that Mike Slive had to make somebody pay for Cecil Newton’s sins — but he’s still employed. Calhoun has to sit out three games, but he gets to keep coaching his program and taking it to NCAA tournaments.
For all the smoke in collegiate sports – has there ever been more smoke than there was surrounding Auburn in November? — the NCAA doesn’t often find a three-alarm fire. (Remember, Georgia received no postseason ban from the NCAA after its investigation into the Harricks and Tony Cole.) Even as they look forward to the day when something is made to stick against Auburn, fans of those 11 other schools need to know this:
There’s a chance nothing ever will stick. (There’s also the chance Auburn did nothing wrong.) There’s a chance — a pretty good one — that 2015 will arrive and the Tigers will still be 2010 national champs.

MikeP, you like many other *Aubies, really do need think before you spout. Maybe even probe for facts a little. You stated: “There is zero proof of any problems at Auburn, the NCAA investigated for five months (July through November of 2010) and at the end of their investigation declared Cam Newton “Eligible without condition”.” This is a “mistruth”. Read the following and you will see that the investigation continues.
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2010/12/ncaa-cam-newton-auburn-eligibility-ruling-defended/1
Here’s an interesting article about *Auburn paying players. Mr. McGreggor is the focal point and he has been indicted on corruption charges. In regards to a connection between McGreggor and Cam Newton, TMZ reports: “Newton remains academically and athletically eligible to play at Auburn, according to coaches. An NCAA investigation continues” This was written AFTER the NCAA “temporarily” cleared him to play in the *NC game. BTW, they had to clear him at the time because they knew the investigation wouldn’t be completed for quite some time, and it continues today despite what you would like to believe.
You can take that *Auburn’s squeaky clean stuff somewhere else. All you ever provide is your opinion or your hopes. FACT: *AU is still under investigation by the NCAA for pay-for-play, including Cam Newton and others. FACT: Milton McGreggor’s investigation and trial are ongoing. And, thus, the FBI has not released their findings, including information garnered from wiretaps, etc. FACT: College football fans all over the country, not just SEC fans, know that *AU pays players. Read the following written by an OSU fan.

*Aubies, we know what “All in” (all involved in paying players) and WDE (We Deny Everything) means. Take the dog-and-pony show elsewhere, if you can find a place where folks buy it.

Cobb Dawg, I don’t need to use assumed names, and I don’t post using other’s names. That stuff is for the middle-school set.
I’m still waiting for you to post one scrap of proof to substantiate your silly tales about Auburn paying players. Do you and Bull tell lies on purpose, or do you have daydreams about Auburn’s downfall and then post your fantasies as fact? It would be nice to know if I’m talking to liars or merely the delusional that should be committed.
If you tire of fantasizing about Auburn, maybe you should start to worry about why UGA had four top-ten recruiting classes on the squad last year and still ended up with a 6-7 record. Getting the fifth “Dream Team” in five years ain’t gonna’ fix what’s wrong in Athens.

Ever see the movie Sybil? We’ll, I’m the male version. You see, I can’t prove my point, and I don’t like to use facts, so I use my other personalities like “Ron Smith”, “DaMan”, “aualum87″, “Jimmyc”, etc. to make UGA fans think that there are many of us. Funny thing is that we all use the same “blah, blah, blah” lame attempts to make you all belive that *Auburn is clean, and the same punctuation, etc. I know that you all know our history, even our recent one. But we don’t do those kinds of things anymore, and that’s a fact. You see, in the *Aubie world, if we say it, then we proclaim it as fact. We don’t need silly references, court documents, sworn statements, etc. It’s called *Aubie fact. Some of you may call it fiction. Milt McGreggor, Bobby Lowder, Pat Dye, etc. are all deacons and should just be left alone. (Well, I don’t know whether or not they are deacons, but I said it so it is fact. I don’t want to bother looking it up).
Anyway, just remember that we *Aubies are as clean as the driven snow. And, although Cam was only at *AU for one semester, and said that “the money’s too much”, referring to the only program that he could possibly have been talking about since the conversation was about MSU vs. *AU, we didn’t pay him for his one semester of service. And God just provided that money to Cecil Newton’s church and, Uncle Miltie, (as the *AU players refer to him) had nothing to do with it. Case closed……………because I said it was.

You have said on this blog many times that the investigation of Cam Newton was over. I want you to read the published article below and tell me that the investigation is over. Yes or no. No more BS. Just answer “yes” of it’s over, or “no” if it’s not over. Can one *Aubie be honest? “Yes” or “no”.

According to people with reason to know, the NCAA is still conducting an active investigation into Auburn’s recruitment of Newton. There is an enforcement staff official assigned to the case, and that person is turning over every rock to make sure the NCAA doesn’t get blindsided down the road.
Auburn fans won’t like that information. Some of them won’t believe it.

If Carolina or anyone takes Newton in the first round, they’re idiots. The pick would be based on one great college year, and there have been plenty of one-year wonders who go high, then flame out.
To be fair, I think AJ Green is also a little overrated as a high draft pick. For all the talent he showed at Georgia, that talent rarely made the difference in tight games. I’m not sure I’d trust his desire and motivation after signing a mega-contract. But hey, I’d love him to prove me wrong. I’d be fine if Cam proves me right.

Cobb Dawg, here’s the important part of your quote from USA Today: “In the wake of the NCAA’s Wednesday decision that Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is eligible to play for now, the association Thursday defended the ruling, based on what is known in the case to this point.” That was December 2nd, nothing new has come up because…wait for it….they are no longer working on the case. But not to worry, ESPN and Fox Sports have each spent a fortune trying to save face because they wrote that Auburn was in trouble earlier. They couldn’t find anything either. There is nothing there, if there were somebody would have turned it up way before now.
From the article in the Bammerham News: “According to people with reason to know, the NCAA is still conducting an active investigation into Auburn’s recruitment of Newton.” In less than 24 hours, Scarb had to eat that. It turns out the investigators were in Auburn wrapping up the the false reports of Auburn doing bad things recruiting two Louisiana players. It seems the Corndogs don’t like it when Auburn comes into their state and gets two top players. Their tales turned out to be untrue. Gee, where have we heard that before?
I didn’t bother clicking the link to the Ohio State student’s blog. I’ve been told all he did was copy and paste something he read elsewhere. Anybody depending on a college blogger for information is sunk beforehand.
So no, the investigation to determine if Auburn had anything to do with money and Cam Newton’s recruitment is not on-going. It is over. Done. Finished. Mississippi State will have some tough questions to answer but Auburn’s end of it is over.
The investigation of the gamblers bribing legislators has been over for a long time too. Indictments were handed out between October 5th and 15th of last year. That means the investigation ended sometime in early September, maybe even earlier. Since then the FBI’s findings have been in the hands of dozens of prosecuting and defense attorneys, their clerks and secretaries and several judges. 75% of them are bammer grads and fans. If the word “Auburn” had been in there even once it would have been all over the Alabama talk shows, blogs and newspapers long before now.
That leaves as your only hope the deal that Bull said was an FBI investigation of Bobby Lowder and Colonial Bank. I don’t want to ruin all your dreams in one post, so I’ll wait until later in the evening to blow that one out of the water.
One more thing: I told you the other night how long Cam Newton was a student at Auburn and for how many terms he was in school there. When you post a lie like this: “although Cam was only at AU for one semester” it just weakens your already weak case and lying makes you look like, well, a liar.

Guess what? It’s not coming because it’s not there.
Scott Moore is a laughing stock around Alabama. He once called in to the Paul Finebaum radio show to diss Auburn from the Birmingham jail. He was in there for spousal abuse. Many were wondering if Moore used his “one call” to call F-bomb instead of a lawyer. Moore’s latest claim to fame was his “lead-pipe cinch” inside info that Cam Newton would be declared ineligible before the Auburn-UGA game.
There are so many holes in Moore’s latest fantasy that I won’t even bother listing them. That’s all this whole Cam Newton non-event has been, one jealous loser after another bellowing “gotcha’” and when it’s time to put up or shut up, they have nothing to put up. Moore thinks his absurd radio comments might get him a moment’s fame. All they have gotten him is more ridicule.

MikeP,
You, like many other *Aubies, never cease to amaze me with either your downright dishonesty, or stupidity, one or the other. You can be given proof of something and you just continue the WDE (We Deny Everything) defense. I sited an article from a BIRMINGHAM newspaper stating that the investigation is still ongoing as to Cam Newton’s recruitment by *AU, and you refute it without any evidence of your own, just what you’d like to believe. Then another article is presented by woebegong and all you do is attack the author. I seriously doubt you attended *AU, or any other college for that matter. Because, if you had, you would know that any time you have a debate, you should produce material to back up your point. The thing that amazes me is that you NEVER produce one shred of evidence backing up your opinions. Ane you refute all evidence presented to you with just your opinion.
This is a FACT (and FACTS are not influenced by your opinion):
*AU is still under investigation as to the Cam Newton recruitment.
You can WDE all you want, but that is a FACT. And you look like a fool for denying FACTS. Believe me, I will be thrilled when the investigation is finally over. I think the scope will surprise many, but not the close followers of the SEC. We’ve known for many years that *AU pays players. And to finally have the NCAA do something about it will be sweet.
I bet you won’t have the guts to come back when it happens. And if you do, you’ll still WDE. Your program’s dirty pal. Face it. Everybody knows it. You didn’t earn that trophy like UF, Bama, and LSU did. I wish we could all congratulate *AU for winning the *NC for the SEC. Heck, the roster is filled with GA players, because they like the pay. By woebegog: “Like I said, time will tell. The NCAA is so slow anything is possible. For sure his part of the article about Tenn. is not wrong” ~~~~It certainly is wrong. There was no mention of Cam Newton in the charges against Tennessee. Not one word. This is the only guy that’s said Tennessee offered to pay something. He’s an insane bammer fan and has been known as such for years. Now he concocts a story that looks bad for Auburn and…..Tennessee, bammers two most hated rivals. Surprise? How much did Oklahoma offer? Surely they were in the game too, since Cam visited there on a recruiting trip.
Cobb Dawg, you deny facts that are right on the same page, like after I posted Cam Newton’s academic terms at Auburn, then pointed that post out to you three times, you still said nobody would mention it.
I can’t paste a retraction by the B’ham news writer because he didn’t post one. Just like others, when he’s wrong he just moves on to something else. I do know that the investigators that were in Auburn came there from Louisiana. They weren’t investigating anything to do with the Newton case, it was the false allegations by Corndogs they were looking at.
Since you are so much in love with facts, provide ONE fact that Auburn paid Cam Newton, or any other player over the last 20 years. Waiting…..

MikeP, 2smartjones, Ron Smith, DaMan, Jimmyc, or whoever else you are today,
The following is what *AU does when they’re already in hot water with the NCAA. So when the NCAA is not watching, what do *AU “boosters” (aka “Uncle Milties) do?
Eric Ramsey was a defensive back for Auburn University’s football team in the early 1990s who used a tape recorder to secretly record conversations between his football coaches and Booster “Corky” Frost regarding an illicit player payment scheme. Ramsey’s allegations also included racist practices at Auburn, including disapproval of inter-racial dating in the community and segregation of black and white players in the resident athletic dorm. After his tapes were revealed, Auburn received strict penalties and probation for the sixth time in the schools history. This scandal prompted Coach Pat Dye’s resignation and preceded the hiring of Samford University football coach Terry Bowden.
Ramsey’s most specific allegations centered on Auburn booster Bill “Corky” Frost. Ramsey alleged that Frost had made at least two of Ramsey’s monthly car payments and given him steaks to help him gain weight. He also claimed Young had paid him $300 per month. The most damaging allegation, however, was pointed at Auburn coach and athletic director, Pat Dye, who he claimed had helped him receive an unsecured loan for over $9,000 in April 1990. On October 6, 1991, another former player, Vincent Harris, alleged in the Birmingham News that he had received payments from assistant coaches.
Just prior to the SEC match-up with Florida, Ramsey and Watkins released a tape that incriminated former Auburn track star and booster Corky Frost. The tape indicated that Frost, a wealthy man, had paid Ramsey a sum of money as well as given Ramsey steaks to help him gain weight as a freshman. It also indicated Frost had agreed to set up a payment plan for Ramsey to receive $100 for interceptions and $500 for touchdowns. The only question remaining in the drama was, “What did Pat Dye know and when did he know it?”
Controversy surrounded the audio tapes alleged to support Ramsey’s case. Eventually, 24 tapes were transcribed. All of the tapes were later authenticated by an audio tape specialist named Tom McDermott as the case went forward.
The specifically proven allegations [1] are documented from the NCAA published findings.
1. During a December 1989 visit by the student-athlete to the representative’s residence, the representative provided between $400 and $500 cash and four new tires (approximate value of $350) for the young man’s automobile.
2. During a February 1990 telephone conversation, the representative directed the student-athlete to mail his two delinquent car payment coupons to the representative. Subsequent to this telephone conversation, the young man mailed the coupons to the representative; and on February 20, 1990, the representative paid $299 and $278.88 to satisfy the debt utilizing money orders purchased near the representative’s business.
3. In February 1990, the representative visited the young man’s residence in Auburn where he provided between $100 and $200 cash to the student-athlete. In the spring of 1990, the representative [Page 9] provided $1,200 cash to a relative, who drove to the student-athlete’s residence where he provided $1,200 cash to the young man.
4. During a December 1990 visit by the student-athlete to the representative’s office, the representative provided $540 cash to the young man, of which $500 was a Christmas gift and $40 was to purchase gasoline.
5. Following the 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl game, the representative provided $100 cash to the student-athlete for the young man’s performance in the game. Subsequent to the Hall of Fame Bowl game and prior to the 1990 football season, the representative and the student-athlete discussed a bonus payment system based upon the young man’s performance in football games (e.g., big hits, touchdowns and interceptions). As a result of this agreement, the representative provided cash totaling at least $700 to the student-athlete after 1990 home football contests.
6. In the spring of 1991, following the completion of the young man’s eligibility, the representative visited the student-athlete’s trailer home and placed at least $250 in cash inside a trailer apartment sign. Thereafter, the representative telephoned the student-athlete and instructed the young man to look behind the trailer sign for the cash.
You’re going to do the WDE (We Deny Everything) and say, “that was several years ago”. But nothing’s changed at *AU and you know it. As a matter of fact, it’s gotten worse now that Bama is strong again. “The money’s too much” now. And Cam was paid for “one semester”, say it with me “one semester” of service at *AU. And the same players (McGreggor, Lowder, Dye, etc.) are still in charge. So you’re telling me that all of a sudden the system of paying players has cleaned itself up? Yea, right!!!!
We can keep this back-and-forth going all year. But until the NCAA and FBI compete their investigations, which they certainly haven’t according to every source but you’re own “opinion”, “wish”, “hope”, “whatever”, this won’t be resolved. And if *AU is not punished for this one, they’ll try something even more daring, if that’s possible.
*AU is dirty pal. And you know it, I know it, and every informed college football fan in the country knows it. I have a relative who went to U of Oregon and they were asking me why the NCAA was allowing *AU to play in the *NC game.
*AU’s reputation is national and that *NC trophy is extremely, extremely tarnished. I’ve even heard people say that they won’t watch college football as much anymore because of *AU. Congrats!

The Downfall of Athens!
It’s coming. Everybody knows about the schemes used at UGA. Every football player gets a special Mastercard the day he first enrolls in class over there.
Once a week the players go eat at Mama Ching’s Chinese Restaurant. When they pay their bill with the SPECIAL Mastercard with “RIP UGA V111” on it, they are given two special fortune cookies. They know not to open the fortune cookies until they are back outside in their cars.
Inside the fortune cookies , instead of the usual fortune thingy, are two pieces of paper. One says Get Out of Jail Free and is good at the Athens police dept. The other has a SECRET CODE NUMBER on it. They then take their UGA Mastercard to a special ATM located just outside Samford stadium. They put the card in, punch in the SECRET CODE numbers and lots of money comes out. Nobody is sure just how much, but it’s a LOT! They are supposed to only use the money thing once a week, but nobody is really counting.
The money to pay for all this comes from the string of cathouses that is run by Barbara Dooley. It has been going on for years but now the AXE is about to fall!
I know this because the FBI agent investigating the prostitution thing is a personal friend of mine and he tells me all about the inside details of FBI investigations. The NCAA knows all about this, but they have to wait until the FBI is done because it’s illegal for the NAA to question anybody that’s being investigated by the FBI. You can look that up.
Proof, you say? Proof? There is just as much proof in this post I’ve written as there is against Auburn in the whole Cam Newton saga, so who needs proof, I have DAYDREAMS!

MikeP, very weak attempt at deflection. You *Aubies have lots of practice at that.
1) UGA is not under investigation, *AU is. 2) UGA doesn’t have a storied history of paying players, *AU does.
UGA doesn’t have to pay players to come to Athens. First of all they are players from Georgia who want to attend their home school. The *Auburn attraction is “the money’s too much”. And Athens and *Auburn don’t even belong in the same sentence, and neither do the schools. Athens is widely regarded as one of the best college towns in the country. In *Auburn, you throw TP in your own treees (or did). UGA is ranked much higher than *AU in any university poll you’ll find. Most kids only go to *AU if they cannot get into *UGA.

And the only time in that period that you’ve managed to win was when you spent the extra $200k to get Newton, plus whatever you paid that thug, cheap-shot, brain-trust Fairley (he’ll get his in the NFL because refs try to protect QB’s there when idiots hit them in the back 4 second after the whistle. What a man, but typical *AU cheating!).
Just an FYI, it might be a little loud and rowdy in Athens this year. You might want to keep your mouth shut if you are able to afford tickets to the game, and can find your way Athens.
We’re looking forward to seeing you!

cod, Chizik is 1-1 vs athens scared pups. Chizk’s teams like to tackle and I know that upsets you and your ilk. We come to Athens this year and there is NOTHING you can do about it but dream that Auburn paid someone. How is that working for you? Hide under your covers, son! When you aren’t doing that, just stay on your knees and keep on praying. It’s not gonna help you, I promise you that!

“Combine Focus: Mallet melts, Newton shines: INDIANAPOLIS – In about an hour’s worth of interviews with the media, Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett saw his draft stock crumble and Auburn’s Cam Newton kept his soaring.
The contrast between how the two quarterbacks handled the media on Saturday at the NFL scouting combine couldn’t have been more stark.” Link

Another blow for the haters. Looks like Both Cam Newton and Nick Fairley will be top five draft picks. One GM’s comment on Cam Newton: ‘The NCAA did their due diligence. That’s good enough for me’.”
Cobb Dawg, Auburn is not under investigation. Auburn has not been under investigation in the Cam Newton case. Was UGA investigated over A.J. Greene? No, UGA was not. Similarly, Auburn was not investigated over the Cam Newton case. Both were player eligibility cases, NOT institutional investigations. bammer wasn’t investigated over Marcel Darious, Ohio State was not investigated in their eligibility cases, so….that ’s how those things work.
A few other points: Auburn leads the overall series over UGA. The last case of Auburn paying a player (Paid a married player’s apartment rent and gave him a box of food for his kid) was 20 years ago.
That was not an attempt at deflection, it was a clear demonstration of how little evidence there is against Auburn. There is every bit as much evidence that Georgia is passing out money as there is evidence that Auburn is. The talk about Auburn makes just as much sense as what I wrote about UGA. See how easy it is to lie?

You forgot to add in the $20,000 a week Cecil got for his “agent fee”. Hey, it’s just money and we got SEC and National Championships for it! Been paying players for decades and it finally paid off. Nick Fairley got 150,000 signing bonus too. All he had to do was promise to knock a UGA QB out of the game, which turned out to be easier than anyone expected. After watching that, the bammer QB left the field after he got hit by a 180 pound DB, just so he could get out of the game before Fairley got to him.
See, here’s the deal. Auburn is so much smarter than the rest of you dorks that we can’t be caught. If we could be caught it would have happened years ago. Know why we can’t be caught? Because Bobby Lowder and Milton McGregor have paid off the SEC, NCAA, FBI and for good measure the CIA and NCIS as well. Auburn has the world in it’s pocket and there’s nothing you lesser schools can do about it except whine, so go whine!
14-0, SEC Champs, National Champs, Heisman winner, Lombardi winner, Broyles award winner, Coach of the Year winner, WOW!

MONTGOMERY (AP) — An FBI agent says more than 12,000 phone calls were intercepted during more than a month of wiretaps on the phone lines of casino owners Milton McGregor and Ronnie Gilley and casino lobbyist Jarrod Massey.

FBI agent Douglas Carr testified Monday in a court hearing on the admissibility of phone calls recorded by the FBI in Alabama’s gambling probe.
Carr said McGregor and Gilley began to suspect their main phones were tapped and began using second phones they thought were secure, but were also tapped.
Carr said the casino developers “were more limited” in the things they said on their main phones. The hearing is expected to continue through Wednesday.
Massey has pleaded guilty. McGregor and Gilley go on trial June 6 on bribery and conspiracy charges.

When the FBI confirms the never losing, always a winner dog track tickets for Scam and his pappy and Scam’s 124 half brothers and sisters, they will throw the net round AU and the entire case. THEN and only then will the NCAA rule on AU and the gambling issues.

You know, I’m starting to put all of this together. And, if I’m right, this is going to be a nuclear bomb. The NCAA could not divulge their findings prior to this trial because it was evidence. The FBI basically had a gag order on the NCAA. Now that the evidence will come out in the trial, look out! This all makes sense to me now as to why the NCAA has had to drag their feet. Wow!

2Smart, MikeP, keep up the good work. If I’m not mistaken this original potty mouth column was about Auburn and Bradley trying to play homer and dab little sav on some wounded red neck dawg egos. These Dumb azz dogs are indeed really having a hard time with the whole thing Auburn NC thing. And who can blame them, the most underachieving team in the league, the team with one self proclaimed recruting dream team after another, the team with more talent and less to show for it than any other in the SEC. Auburn’s success is of course particularly galling. It simply just can’t be, there must be some other explanation other then we suck and Auburn does not, that Auburn plays like big boys and GA. has a really nice coach who just can’t get it done. After they fire him next year and the inevitable turmoil reigns for a year or two we will extend this series lead out a little bit further and remind them again about the natural order of things here. For the moment, in their envy and anger filled haze, they just don’t get it. They will soon enough.
