‎51 years living in Atlanta. This is what you come to expect from all the sports teams that have ever played here. Atlanta Flames-13 years in Atlanta. 11 years made the playoffs. 11 years lost in the first round. Braves, whatever. Hawks are probably the biggest embarrassment. Thrashers following the same pattern. Where is the Mike Mularkey who was in Pittsburgh? That Mularkey seemd to have a lot of surprises or trick plays. This Mularkey is boring.

The Falcons offense are second to last in the league (in the regular season) for passing plays over 20 yards. And we were last overall in plays over 20 yards.

Is it the OC? is it the QB? Whatever it is, change is needed.

Our defense was horrible tonight. If we get those sacks on Rodgers, maybe the game is closer.

More moves are needed. We need a speed back (Norwood needs to go), we need another receiver (Jenkins is too inconsistent), I think Sam Baker has disappointed, and Matt Ryan still has room to grow.

What will TD do this summer?

Just a bad night all the way around. The Falcons didn’t seem like the team that we’ve seen all season, and the defense especially didn’t. I’m afriad this year will be hard to top, unless they win the NFC next season. I think we’ve seen pretty much what they’re capable of, which is good enough for me, at least they made it this far.

We need a QB that executes like Rodgers. Standing in the pocket and letting it collaspe is not the answer. Funny how the Packers got to our QB and Rodgers went virtually untouched. Did we even have a secondary tonight? Yea I know we had one forced turnover but other than that nothing. Where do we go? We need to look at personnel and coaching…sad game plan or execution ended our run!

What a miserable and disappointing end to what was otherwise a solid season. Will the Falcons front office work to continue improving the defense? Who knows. I’m inclined to think it will be a repeat of the ‘80 Falcons team’s playoff disappointment and subsequent 18 years until the Falcons made it to the Super Bowl. Unless some serious improvements are made to the Falcons this team will remain a playoff contender at best. Think another eighteen years passing before the Falcons next SB appearance is fantasy? I said that back in early 1981 after the Birds were eliminated by Dallas.

His arm is weak and he has know escape ability at all. This is the second time he has looked totally different in the playoffs than he did in the regular season. How do you miss a wide open guy in the end zone? And then throw behind him from the 12 yard line, where is all this leadership and preparation now??? If tonight’s game didn’t prove without a doubt that he is totally over his head and out of his league then nothing is going to convince you.

His bend over and spread him philosophy set the tone for the entire game and not only destroyed the defense’s chances but it infected the offense, special teams, cheerleaders, fans, you name it. GREAT teams beat good teams with consistency! The Falcons are not a great team. They are missing several pieces. Signing one free agent CB was not the answer to “defense.” The pass defense looked pathetic! Aaron Rogers probably has a tougher time practicing against his own defense.

Tony Gonzalez – and top some extent Roddy White were not factors. We made the Packers wide outs and tight ends look like they were All World.

At least we were spared the Arthur (Jock Sniffer) Blank post game smirk.

Football coaches gameplan to try and create mismatches and key advantages that lead to yards. How can a coaching staff with 10 seconds left in the first half call a play that everyone in the stadium knows will be called? That was insanity. I told the tv to kick the field goal, but the tv didn’t listen.

Wow, that was embarrassing. To end the season in that manner is a shame. The zone D got burned repeatedly yet did they change to man coverage, not that I could tell. Ryan choked in the postseason again. His record is officially 0-2. The Falcons got lucky all season and now need to return to the chalkboard and come up with something new. Need reliable secondary. Need the ability to put consistent pressure on the QB. Need a new gameplan. Glad I was able to turn this one off after half. Got a head start on my taxes. That’s how bad this was.

The defense collapsed especially in the 2nd half, no doubt about it. I don’t agree, though, that he had “no chance” to prove he is great.

With 2:30 to go, the Falcons were tied 14-14 and were in the red zone. Matt Ryan tried to make a play down the field, floated the pass, and got picked in the end zone.

One TD later, the Falcons are down 21-14, Ryan tried to hit Roddy on the sideline (to be fair it was a bad play call), telegraphed his pass, threw with slow ball speed, and got picked for a TD.

Then, in the 4th quarter on basically the last drive on which the Falcons have a chance to do anything, Ryan floats an incompletion on a 15 yard out route, floats an incompletion on a deep pass down the left sideline, hits a couple of short passes, and then Jenkins fumbles his 4th down completion.

The fumble is obviously Jenkins’ fault. The incompletions on the earlier long passes (both of which were single coverage) are a result of Ryan’s inability to make plays down the field. Ryan’s strength is completing short passes quickly and accurately, which is fine when you are winning the turnover battle and controlling the clock with the running game, like the Falcons usually do. But when the team starts losing the turnover battle and time of possession battle and fall behind, that’s when a star quarterback starts making plays down the field.

In any sport, the real stars erase mistakes with their extraordinary ability. The Falcons are coached well and usually play mistake-free football, so they don’t really need stars to make extraordinary plays to erase mistakes. Aaron Rodgers in this game was able to rebound from sacks and stuffed runs by completing passes down the field on 3rd and long. That’s what stars do. Matt Ryan couldn’t erase the Falcons’ mistakes by making big plays. He’s still a good player who fits what the offense wants to do. But he is not a star. It’s time to stop pretending like he is one.

First things first… Brian Van Gorder was outclassed, outcoached and I’m tired of his “smoke & mirrors” approach to defense.

2nd: Do we not have a single CB that can play up on the line? Why in the world is Dunta Robinson making $11 million per season and giving a 9-13 yard cushion on EVERY play? I thought he was a “shutdown” #1 corner; I say FAR, FAR, FAR from it.

3rd: Our LB’s simply CANNOT tackle and it is sad. Lofton looked slow, Nicholas looked loss, and Weatherspoon is a rookie so I begrudgingly give him a pass.

Every single one of our players needs to spend time watching film on every missed sack opportunity and learn how to actually wrap up instead of going for the kill shot. The missed tackles for loss that became first downs were murder in this game, the Saints game, etc…

And now to the offense…

Mike Mularkey, you wanna interview for Head Coaching jobs, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. The offense was predictable and again unable to produce anything over 20 yards; we’re simply not built to be anything other than a “3 yards and a cloud of dust” team.

Matt Ryan in the playoffs scares me. Granted, the body of work is not extensive, but in his 2 playoff games he’s been downright dreadful. That pick before the half was a throw that I wouldn’t expect to see a 3rd grade rec-team QB make, but “Matty Ice” just had to get those extra 2 yards and stare down Roddy White the entire time. He needs to watch game film on the great QB’s like Peyton and Brady, maybe he’ll learn how to actually look off a safety for once in his career.

The O-Line was garbage tonight. Dahl committed 2 ridiculous penalties, Blalock was beaten numerous times, McClure needs to ride off into the sunset, Sam “T-Rex Arms” Baker played like he usually does (poorly), and Clabo let Clay Matthews in on the QB multiple times… Overall this unit needs major upgrades.

13 wins means absolutely nothing when you come out and P!$$ YOUR PANTS in the playoffs.

I expect Dimitroff to make some moves starting now; one name I need to hear coming our way is Nnamdi Asomughua. I’d also like to hear an explanation as to why either of our coordinators believe they deserve to remain gainfully employed by this organization.

Simple, the D never showed up, and the answers are simple…..Fire the D Coordinator who planned the strategy for the first half and wasn’t sharp enough to make the correct adjustments for the 2nd half. Let the D Backfield coach go, I don’t believe there was a 3rd down where we stopped them and often it was a long pass completion that kept GB alive. Get another defensive end, Abraham can’t do it all without help from the other side. Someone needs to teach them how to tackle, Rogers is good but not that swift on his feet, how many times was the play keep alive even though the D was there but they missed on him. Wow, a great year destroyed by a lousy defensive plan and execution. Also hope Mularkey gets a head coaching job.

I still say thanks to Mr. Blank and his team for a great regualr season, there will be many more if the right changes are made quickly.

Whew. Glad it is over. Biggest letdown I can remember as an Atlanta fan. We won some close games this year and were overrated. I’m more worried about next year now. How do we close the gap between us and the elite teams. Next year we probably will have to win on the road in the playoffs. But I have faith in the management. The upside is that there are clearly holes that need to be plugged in our D. Tough offseason to figure it out.

First we need an OC and a DC that plays aggressive and to win ……………. rather than “not to lose” conservative schemes we have…………..second Williams means that much………..Owens didn’t rise up and was terrible…………………third we need another receiver for our number two…………..Jenkins can’t jumb against these tiny cornerbacks and doesn’t go after the ball, and slipping in the end zone is not acceptable………………..fourth we need to learn to teach our defensive guys how to tackle a quarterback………………………….It was apparent our players were not ready to play……………….

Don’t take this loss so hard. The Falcons are one of the top teams in the NFL. The fans should have stayed to the end in respect to a good season. I’m probably halfway drunk, but I don’t care. This is the one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen from our sports team (I wasn’t born in 1980) This is damn pathetic. Sorry Mark for the words. Where was the offense, where was the defense? The only thing we had was special teams. This. Hurts. Bad. On the national stage. Something needs to be done about execution (key word as Smitty says). How do you come in and stink up the joint? PICK 6 to end the half? Falling in the end zone? No pressure? Missed sacks? Even when we stripped Jennings, it didn’t look good because it was a long third down conversion. WE never stopped them. PATHETIC.

Defenders were in position to make plays all night long and didn’t make them. All the chances for sacks on Rogers would have been plays that altered the course of the game, UGA “fans” will say it was VanGorders fault. No matter that players were in position, just didn’t do what they get paid to do.

Most disappointing were that the “face” of the offense, Ryan, and the defense, Abraham, played so poorly and did not make the plays they are capable of making.

What the columnist fails to see is that no defense in the league could have stopped Rogers tonight; it was a career performance. His great mobility constantly gave him extra time and he zinged the ball like he knew there was no possibility of missing; I’m betting he would have beat New England’s defense to heck this night!

ThisAintKoolAid: Slow your roll. The Saints loss their game with 3 defensive starters out hurt. An athletic tight end who was out hurt. Two running backs on IR the Monday before the game and then 2 other running backs hurt during the game. I won’t make up excuses because we got beat. Just remember you loss with a fully healthy team on the field. It just goes to show you what I have been saying all season. The Falcons are a good team, but they cannot perform with high scoring offenses.

Yes, this was devastating, crushing, embarrassing etc., etc. But this still was a good season for an up and coming team. The 1980 Falcons werer sold out by the ownership who did not want to commit to a longer term winning tradition. A. Blank, M. Smith and T. Dimitrioff are putting the pieces of the puzzle together. I think the Falcons are in the third year of a five year plan to win a championship. If anything, being the #1 seed in the NFC was ahead of schedule and a bit unexpected this year just like going to the playoffs in 2008. Now it is up to the Falcons to take the next step, which they will. The coaching staff will remain going into next year, which is good. A big part of today’s loss goes on the players. Van Groder had people on Rodgers in the backfield, but they didn’t close the deal. The first two drives on offense were productive. Looking forward to a good draft, a star free agent signing, another NFC South crown and playoff victories next season.

I sympathize with the Atlanta fans, but I really don’t think this is a problem with the Falcons. The Packers have simply hit an incredible stride of coming together at the absolute right time. I suspect other great team, the Chicago Bears, and quite possibly the NE Patriots will see the same thing. Yes the Patriots beat the Packers earlier this year – when Aaron Rodgers was not playing – and it was still a close game for the Patriots. With Aaron Rodgers coming back, it is like someone flipped the “ON” switch on the Packers, and they have made a determined drive for the Super Bowl. I think the Packers are the definite odds-on favorites for the Super Bowl now, even with the power of the Patriots. The Packers and Patriots are playing at a level above the other very good NFL teams. That is just the way it is. That takes NOTHING away from the accomplishments of the Falcons this year. Sometimes you just face teams that are on a historic “roll,” and that is all I think happened tonight.

Same old Falcons. Even when they’re good, they suck. They were pretenders in the end. Several wins in photo finish fashion that easily could have been losses. No way Matt Ryan should be a Pro Bowl QB and Rodgers isn’t. Bottom line is, Ryan has slightly above average talent. He can’t get it done in the money games. The defensive line is an abortion. A complete do-over. Secondary still has weaknesses that were exposed again tonight. Running game showed declining productivity in the second half of the season, particularly against better teams. All in all, this team is about like every other pro team in this city. Not ready for prime time.

After reading a lot of these comments, I realize one reason why the Atlanta sports teams struggle so much…..they, for the most part, have horrible fans. I bunch of people who don’t really care about the teams…and only support them when they’re doing good, and then trash on them win they don’t win a championship. Some cities have it just as bad or worse than Atlanta does…and their fans still stick through. Most Atlanta fans are a joke. Not saying all are, I’m very thankful and appreciative for all those true Atlanta fans out there. Bad and disappointing loss tonight, but don’t worry, Falcons will be back. Atlanta will have its time to shine.

Falcons have improved each of the last 3 years and will continue but some changes have to be made. Been a fan for over 40 years and seen the good and the bad. But all year my complaints have been the same and they were highlighted tonight. 1 Defensive coordinator not being more efficient. Heck even Troy aikmen pointed that out. 2 Falcons offense is reason defense was able to be more efficient by eating up most of the time. Not tonight. 3 Turner is good this offensive line requires a faster back. and Matt ryan needs to learn to move to the side and get out of that damn pocket.

The Packers had no running game. Why not blitz every play, and mix them up while playing tight press to the WR’s? If you are going to get beat, do it by using an agressive and attacking defense, not a “prevent” defense which does what is says, i.e. prevents defense!

Bradley, I am not shocked at all. I have watched this team all season luck up and win many games. They beat the Packers and the Ravens early in the season when both teams were missing many starters and both games were close games the NFC south is a weak Division and a team with a 13-3 record on this side of the NFC is the best of the worst teams. Tonight we saw the Falcons fall to that BIG BOY BANGING Real Champions Win WHEN it MATTERS the 6th seed beat down the well rested homefield 1st seed. Champions Win at home or on the raod. The Falcons lost to the Packers tonight and that Ravens team that I saw Playing the STEELERS today would kill the Falcons in a rematch also!!!

Like I said this whole year, the Falcons just aren’t that impressive… Hartley missing a gimme FG, 49ers fumble when they had the game in hand, getting manhandled by the Eagles, barely beating the Bucs twice, getting beatdown by the Saints on national TV on Monday Night Football. This team just seem to have too many flaws, you guys have a good core but you really need to upgrade the offense with some playmakers. Matt Ryan’s YPA is too low and if teams roll coverage towards Roddy White, you can’t really move the ball. Being dead last in plays of 20 yards or more didn’t help matters as well.

Guys, it is simple: the Packers were just more dynamic tonight. The defense speaks for itself and Aaron Rodgers had one of the best all time performances as a quarterback in the playoffs. Matt Ryan is a great quarterback; do not throw him under the bus. You could use a number two wide out and a tight end under the age of 35. Defensively speaking, it is just hard to match up with the Packers. There was virtually no pressure on Rodgers tonight, and when there was he just avoided them…

Brian VanGorder has NEVER won anything.

Brian VanGorder has had 2 games at Georgia where he won a big game against a great opponent. Those 2 years, however, he LOST 4 games one of the 2 years and he LOST 3 games the other year he actually beat a team who finished in the Top 10 AP Poll.

Brian VanGorder certainly hasn’t won anything with the Falcons either, who by the way still have never won a play-off game in consecutive seasons.

Venting frustration everyone? Things are never as bad as they seem (for the Falcons), or as good (for the Pack). Falcons ran into a sound football team with a hot, talented quarterback. Their defense got exposed, and then the pick-6 turned the game ugly (10-point swing right there). The Packers opening drive in the second half sealed the deal, and the rest of the second half was quite irrelevant. Last year it was Brees and the Saints who got hot. But the Pack isn’t out of the woods yet – that passing game might look a bit different outdoors in Chicago.

The Falcons have been to some extent victims of their own success in their two playoff appearances under this regime. Two years ago the 11-5 record was padded by a very weak schedule, and team wasn’t really ready for a playoff run (think Kansas City this year). When you go 13-3 and get the #1 seed expectations go through the roof. This was a very good 10-6 quality football team which parlayed toughness, character, and some plain luck (NO missed field goal) into a near-perfect regular season record. But this is still a work-in-progress, a young up-and-coming bunch, with a third year QB and a young, retooled defense. This team will get better where it counts – on the field. Hard to improve on 13-3, but the team can and will get better even if the record doesn’t.

This is not the time to cry in our beers. This is a moment to be thankful for the Falcons great regular season run, for the third winning season in a row, and for having a team with a future.

I said this even before the game… as a Packer fan I’m looking forward to good GB-ATL games in the playoffs for at least the next few years. The talent on both teams reminds me a bit of the GB-DAL rivalry of the 90’s, where they matched up often in the regular season and playoffs and the result was some incredible games.

A lot of Packer fans were complaining about Ted Thompson when he got rid of Favre. A lot of Packer fans were complaining about McCarthy over the past two seasons. And a lot of Packer fans were questioning our quarterback and defense after our playoff loss last year. Your owner won’t overreact and your team will be stronger next year. 2-3 key players is all you guys really need. We’ll see you in next year’s playoffs, ATL.

I’m 48. Been a Falcons fan since the 70s when I grew up listening to the Falcons on radio w/ my dad. Tonight proved once and for all what a doomed franchhise this is and what a complete waste of time it is to invest any passion into this enterprise.

What a sepctacular failure this team is, was and will always be. All the pundits were right and all the die-hard fans were proved to be foolish and naive. The big stage only means the biggest flop for this team.

This team can change owners, GMs, coaches and players but the net result is complete inemptitude and failure.

Honestly, what did any of us expect from believing in these losers one more time.

At least now I know why Ryan selected #2 as his number. He is complete $hit

I can’t believe this. This must be some sort of setup by the League for this to happen. We have pro bowlers on offense that were hardly used in this game. Gonzolez was only thrown to 3 times, Dam man. Snelling, Muhailey, and Roddy were hardly used. Smith and Murlarky, where were the adjustments. This is still a great team, but coaches u must do better. We did not blitz this guy man? A 3 man rush, what is that. Attack man! This “had” to be some sort of setup. It was too strange of a game. Hell im still mad about losing to the saints. Dam!

RB’s

Turner – F. He looked overwhelmed on every carry except the TD run, and that was more of the O-Line as he went a good five yards before pinballing off a tackler, and then the line push him into the end zone. The rest of his carries were horrendous jitterbug affairs. Worse yet, he is an absolute waste of a bdy on the field in the passing game. He only had 12 receptions all year according to the announcers. TWELVE? That’s probably twice the amount of blitzers he picked up all year. He certainly didn’t block a single blitzer tonight. In fact, I think other teams have figured it out. If Turner is on the … BLITZ. You likely stop the run with an interior blitz anyway, and if the Falcons do pass you don’t have to worry about wasting a man covering Turner.

Snelling – Incomplete. Where was Snelling when it was obvious Turner would be useless during the comeback? He was the tougher runner and better receiver all year. I think the Falcons need to look into a true 3rd down type of back. Norwood is not really that guy and he is too injury prone (and I think his contract is up). Time to get a real scatterback who can catch screens and tear up defenses that don’t respect him in the passing game.

QB – Ryan – D+. He rarely had time to throw under normal rush packages. When Green Bay blitzed they actually broke down and tackled Ryan instead of flying by him five yards like our blitzers did every time (a ton of credit to Rodgers for being the more nifty QB). Ryan has to learn to be more nifty in the pocket, but on most of those sacks and rushes it was not just one guy breaking free but half the defensive line. The Falcons O-Line and RB’s got dismantled tonight. The pass before half was a horrible play call and Ryan was to slow in getting the ball out. The pick in the end zone Ryan took too long to get airborn, but at least he knew it was his fault (had Jenkins not slipped it probably would have just been an incompletion). Green Bay just dominated the possession clock so Ryan really didn’t put up bad stats for the few number of snaps the Falcons had (especially considering the running game was non-existent). That being said, he made two costly plays and didn’t make the plays he needed to. The difference between his grade and Turner is that Turner actually hurt Ryan’s cause and not vice versa.

WR’s – Incomplete. They actually played well I thought. Hard to tell for sure because they had to get open in 1.5 seconds before Green Bay smothered Ryan every play. Even so, they got open enough for Ryan to complete a few nice passes. I would say B for this group as a whole.

OLine – F-minus minus minus. Flase starts, poor run blocking, horrendous pass blocking. You name it, they did it. This group of overachievers got annihilated tonight. Of course, some of the sacks weren’t their fault, as they were taking the inside rush. That being said .. at some point the line has to wisen up. When one or two DL’s drop back into a short zone coverage you can’t have the other 5 offensive lineman blocking two frickin guys while a corner runs in untouched 5 or 6 straight times or an OLB comes thru untouched every other play. Forget a TE. Falcons need to seriously think about using a continual three receiver set to keep the DB’s from blitzing.

DLine – C. They rarely got any pressure on Rodgers. Only when the LB’s or CB’s blitzed did we get pressure. One or twice they broke through, but they were outmanned by a far superior line in the passing game. They did a decent job against the run, but most of that came when the Falcons were selling out in run defense in the 4th so they had help from the LB’s.

LB’s – F. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. Gave up crucial pass plays to slot and 4th receivers the entire game. The middle of the field was an absolute playground for Rodgers. When the LB’s dropped back too far, Rodgers threw underneath and took the 8-10 yard catch and runs. They were beaten all over the field. And let’s not give too big of a pat on the back to Nicholas for the fumble he caused, as he was the one who got destroyed in his zone and gave up the big play. So I give him an even on that one play just because he had to hustle.

CB’s – C. Only because Rodgers had a ton of time. Grimes was actually in great coverage most of the night, but GB exploited his height. Robinson was ok, but not stellar.

Safeties – F. Once again, the middle of the field got torched. Then when the safeties stayed home in the middle it left far too much 1on1 on the outside. They missed 4 or 5 clean runs on Rodgers early in the game on blitzes. You just can come thru clean on blitzes and miss that badly and expect to win.

Defensive game plan – C. Blitzing – F. Don’t blame BVG too much for this. His blitz packages were doing what they were supposed to do. They were getting amazing pressure on Rodgers. The problem was, they weren’t making the tackle. Rodgers looked like Barry Sanders back there. LB’s couldn’t tackle him, Safeties couldn’t tackle him, Nickle and Dime Corner blitzers couldn’t tackle him. So, if you want to blame BVG, it’s for not teachign proper blitz rushing techniques. As for the rest of his defensive gameplan, it went up in smoke when the blitzing failed. He was forced to play a soft zone and Rodgers tore it up. Had the blitzing been effective like it was the first time we played them, then things might have turned out differently.

Offensive gameplan – F. What game plan? We were thoroughly confused on the VERY FIRST PLAY. That should have been a scripted play with no mistakes. We made no corrections for the corner blitzes. We made no corrections for the LB blitzes. We had nothing in the short game to even attempt to offset the blitzing. If Ryan were more agile like Rodgers it might have been a different story, but he obviously isn’t.

NEEDS – DE as Abraham cannot be expected to get there every single play. LB’s are solid, but just seemed confused the whole game. Safeties who are average against the run, poor against the pass, and who can’t tackle a QB on a wide open run are not NFL caliber. O-Line that is not pieced together from non-drafted and cast-offs. Running back who is a threat in the passing game. Slot receiver that runs crisp routes (not just a burner).

If you can just get to 3rd down on ‘em though…..that is an automatic 1st down for your team. Its a given. The city is apparently snakebit. Same old crap year in year out. I am through.

They can be fixed but Blank will CERTAINLY NOT do what it takes to fix them. Could the young up and coming NFC Champs need a major overhaul already? YES!!!

1. Either Mularky or Matty Ice (lol) or both need to GO! The ultra-conservative play calling will never get you past the FIRST ROUND of the playoffs.
These plays are called either because the Mularky knows no other way and cannot adapt or because he knows that Ryan is very very iffy on long balls and tough reads.

Given that Mularky HAD a rep for offensive innovation before coming to the Falcons; I would say that he knows Ryan’s limitations and has been trying to prevent the type of interception fest that went on last night.

The third rather intriguing option is that Mularky has been INSTRUCTED by Mike Smith to call the plays that way to protect Ryan, in which case I can’t really blame Mularky.

2.Van Gorder has got to go. It quickly became obvious in this game, as in several recent ones that the only way the birds can stop a high powered O, or a hot QB is to Blitz, Blitz, Blitz! Everyone watching, including the announcers could see that we needed to blitz except BVG. Unless once again he was following Smith’s orders.

3. We obviously need personnel upgrades ALL OVER THE FIELD!

I could go on and on. But without the first two changes, other changes, including player personnel would be futile. Mr. Blank is enamored with his coaching staff and QB due to the moderate success that they have had. So this NEW FALCONS DEBACLE will continue for at least another three years. Then we will start all over again.

Rise Up! Go Birds! Blah, blah…..blah.

Wow falcons fans. Listening to you makes me remember what kind of fans are in this city – fairweather fans. As soon as they play one terrible game, you are all ready to fire Ryan an blow up the team. Come on! This is a young team with some excellent players. The regime under Smith is still early on and Dimitroff is still putting things together. Rather than focus on how terrible they are and making yourselves look like the foolish fans you might be, focus on the future. This team has lots more winning ahead of it. Ryan and company will learn from this and will never forget this embarrassment. Bet on that.

What you Falcon fans are oblivious to is that, although the Saints did lose to a Seattle team with a losing record on the road by five points in one of the most hostile environments in the NFL – the Saints entered that game completely decimated in their offensive backfield. They had their top five running backs on injured reserve including their two starters – Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory. This same Seattle team that will play Chicago for the right to face the Green Bay team that wiped the floor with you in your dome, also defeated the Bears earlier this season. Their record is very deceiving.
Though it’s true that winning on the road and injuries are a part of the game, sometimes a team can’t overcome a plethora of injuries at one position. Sometimes, teams in the midst of a dynasty can’t overcome a single injury which was exemplified three years ago when Tom Brady went down early in the year and was lost for the season and the Patriots didn’t make the playoffs.
But what’s your excuse? You’re completely healthy, playing at home and Las Vegas has your game against Green Bay as a pick-em. Then you come out and score two touchdowns – one of which was a kickoff return. Then you stand by helplessly as the Packers scored 35 unanswered points. And you should have lost by more had the Packers not doinked a field goal off an upright.
FOX television focuses on both sidelines with 10 minutes left. On one side we see Arthur Blank and some of your players moping and shell-shocked; others simply have their heads in their hands with expressions on their faces as if they’re a bunch of drunks that can barely stumble out of a tavern.
What a pitiful exhibition that was. And you Falcon fans have the gall to sit here insulting the Saints? These same Saints that lost the last three games of their regular season last year and came out in this same round of the playoffs last year and trounced future Hall-of-Famer Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals? These same Saints who the following week defeated another future Hall-of-Famer Brett Farve and the Vikings? These same Saints that then defeated another future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning and the Colts by 14 points in the Super Bowl?
If you Falcon fans can digest all of this and can still consider yourself on the same playing field as Drew Brees and the Saints, then you’re not only idiots on the playing field as you demonstrated last night, but also mental retards.

I’m sorry the Falcons won’t make the playoffs next year. The top teams in the NFC will be Philly, Dallas, New York, Tampa Bay, New Orleans and Green Bay in no certain order. You have to think where will their players come from? TD will have to earn his money this off season. This is not a slam of the Falcons, I’m just thinking ahead. Look the Falcons were pretty much healthy all year. I look at the Eagles who had a make-shift defensive secondary and O-line and still was one play from beating Green Bay last week. I mean you have to look at that if you want something to compare. The reason the Falcons are last in big plays is because Matty Ice can’t throw the long ball and Mike Turner don’t have breakaway speed. I said that when Matt came out of college. Don’t blame this D unit for this loss. The A unit deserves at great deal of the blame too.

Would everbody take a deep breath, Please don’t make comments based on emotion. Being that said, I knew that the Falcons defense would come back to haunt them. Chris Owens belongs on special teams he’s not a starting nichol corner. If an old vet Brain Williams takes your job what does that say about you. Dion Sanders has called the secondary out all season. They simply can’t get it done. It was mask by turn overs and ball control from the offense. I never seen a team who has a chance to sack the Quarterback, that can’t finish. Remember the Saints game and this one tonight that really sticks out. The offense doesn’t play all the field, you can’t do it without a speed back who can challenge the sidelines. Turner and Snelling need a speed partner to compliment their down hill style of running. I don’t think an eight year vet Jerious Norwood is the answer. He’s been injured the last two years. Kroy Bierman has a high motor but he’s not consistent and a compliment to John Abraham. You simply have to have a top defense to go to the superbowl. My wish list – Speed back, wideout that’s faster than Roddy White who can help stretch the field. A pass rusher, a linebacker and several corners who can challenge these guys for there starting position.

No D. No O. Can’t tackle. Can’t punt. Can’t run. Can’t throw. The center pass blocks on a sneak. The nickel back was not worth a nickel. Who the hell are these guys and what did they do with the Falcons? At least we didn’t make any mistakes on punt returns … the Pack never had to punt. The only guy I recognized was Brian Finneran, who almost made a heroic play with the on-side … that was just a tough break, but he played his heart out from my angle. Kudos to Weems. Good night.

Dude, I’ve been a Fan since 1966 and I will NEVER HATE ON THE FALCONS ! They need to make BIG changes on both side of the ball i.e Defense and THAT OL !

I think the Falcons was next to last in defense this year. I know Matt could have gone to Tony G and Roddy (Big play makers). Granted Jenkins did a great job (the fumble didn’t matter, the game was lost at that point !

Matt need to spend time with D Marino or he need to study D Brees films ! I’m serious. They are pocket passer……..

WOW. What a bunch of whiny assed fans. Great team, great season, ran into a buzz saw and most of you are carping like it’s the end of the world. Rogers hung up 45 points on a poor (’cept Kurt Warner) Arizona team and lost last year.
Sometimes you have to walk before you can run. GB has been playing for its life for the last 5 weeks and Atl. took a week off and it showed. Get over it, you’ll have more chances, so will GB by the way. But what ever happens, you ain’t going to win it every year (as that idiot from NO can’t seem to figure out).

Well what did I tell you, we never really beat a team this year. We never blew out anyone except Arizonia. We still have that mentally that the Falcons have always had. Just because we were a number 1 seed, we thought we could have gone all the way. Our defense never showed up. Ryan thought he could be the wonder boy. Not taking anything away from Green Bay, they are a excellent team and only excellent teams make it to the superbowl. Hopefully The Falcons will pick some decent Defense players with the draft or do some trades. We also need a running back that has speed and has a good cutback. Turner is good for North to South but other than that he can’t catch or cutback.

Yes, Owens looked like Dimry & BVG made no adjustments to stop Rodgers, but big picture concern to me is Matty Ice’s arm strength. I know arm strength doesn’t make you a HoF, but i sense huge problems in the future due to his lack of zip on deep routes.

The Falcons have a good team but GB’s record was deceiving. Even though they were only 10-6, GB had not even been BEHIND by more than 7 points in any game all year. All their losses were close and they were dealing with 15 players lost to IR. Now the injuries are kind of behind them and the QB is hot. What is even scarier than their performance tonight is how good GB would be with all their starters back. Can you imagine that offense with Grant and Finley added to the mix?

The fans were never sold on this team. The sport talk show guys,sports writers, and the NFL hype machine tried to sell us how great this team was; however we dumb no nothing fans could see that they were good but not great. SEC games in the dome still have a better atmosphere.

That panel on Fox before the game all picked GB ( except Bradshaw)and those are pretty insightful guys. They looked at this game with their head, not their heart. This was beat down. Falcons are about 4 players away on D and 2-3 on offense…..Had to believe this team won 13 in the NFL. Say’s a lot about the league this year.

The old saying….DEFENSES win championships is one of the truest statements of all time. Having said that, the Falcons are not any different really than their baseball counterparts. The Braves likewise build teams for the regular season and then are complete duds once they get to the play offs.

16 games of good exciting football this year – obviously not ready for 19 games.

Last night was an embarrassment for the program & the city.

Ryan lost the game – fumble. Hesitant, throwing too late resulted in picks, bad decisions on audibles, throwing underneath too much – get the damn ball down field and get a vertical game! Mularky deserves equal credit on offensive side – he obviously was too busy surfing the net for houses in other cities to bother with a game plan this week.

Biggest decision for Dimetri is replacing Mularky with a coach with a vertical game!

Defense – VanGorter – what the hell happens to the stunts & rush we saw against NO? There are way to many needs for talent on D.- need backs, DE, young rushers. I’m a 55 year old white man and I could have covered better than our backs did last night (BTW VG – I’m available at NFL minimum salary – if you’re going to fold, save yourself some cash). I think VG is capable but there absolutely no creativity or adjustments last night – he phoned it in.

It will be interesting to watch draft & OC replacement in off season.

After suffering thru the Clampetts for so many years – I’m still a fan because I think Blank is committed to improving this team and getting the right personnel.

Growing pains. Green Bay looked like it was in our defensive huddle. Rogers is not only smart he is street wise. I bet their is a test score somewhere on quarterbacks that will back that up, I can’t imagine too many any smarter, maybe Brady, University of Michigan.

Green Bay lost to us once before in this same place, this season. The losing teams seem to garner more, if they have a winner’s pride, than winners do in those contest. When you say no one saw this coming I guess you mean the size of the loss. I can’t remember if it was Jeff or Mark but one of them drew up this exact picture.

Author Blank and Thomas Dimitroff will figure it out. I think the recent history of championship caliber pro teams will show a growth similar to ours. New Orleans kind of screwed the logic last year, but this year showed how winning can mess with a team’s head. I dealt Green Bay stuck around to have their picture taken or to water down our field. My real concern is who is going to be the offensive coordinator next year and is our defensive coordinator a one trick pony. Thomas Dimitroff will earn his pay this off season it will be a joy to watch him work.

WRONG again Bradley…Offense could not follow the game plan. Your Defense CANNOT be expected to stop that offense, and everyone knew it going in…plan was: RUN RUN EEAT UP CLOCK KEEP ROGERS ON SIDELINE GIVE YOUR DEFENSE REST.
Ryan and Mularkey are NOT up to this level of play, clearly.

The shoe finally and inevidentably dropped..The score should have been 60 to 7.”no run..one and done” Falks have three true “all pro players” Tony G..Roddy W..and Mr. E Weems… The rest of the team are are all hard working, well coached B or C plus grade folks..with the exception of an aging Abe….Mr. Ryan IS the face of the Falcons: pretty good but limited and will never lead the team to a superbowl victory..At 13 and 3, the record looked good on paper, but along with being well coached and hard working, they were very lucky..Green Bay wasn t just better last night…They were the better team period and showed it in a big way last nite…Next year draft smarter, trade better and we Atlantans should not be embarrased like this again..Hopefully..

The Falcons should have went after Julius Peppers when he was out there. You will never beat the elite quarterbacks with no pressure. Matt Ryan is as good now as he will ever be. Too many physical limitations. This team was more of 9-7 team that got lucky and then got embarrassed on national t.v.

Ryan plays bad only when hes not comfortable with the play called.He couldnt get it together with all the CHAOS the coaching staff stirred up.Adjustments couldve been made like they were all year and we wouldve been fine.Adjustments have to come from the staff. In post game interviews,every player was thinking the same thing,they just couldnt say it. Mike Smith will not rest until he does whats necessary to reach the next level. Even if it means changes in the personell around him.

I said a few blogs ago that the Falcons would be one and done. They have no winning tradition. They just recently put two winning seasons back to back. Now the need to put playoff seasons back to back. Tradition’s a progression, not just one season. Give them a break. All in all, it was a great season. Next season(if they have one) they need to repeat…then the seeds will have been planted..Good season Falcons!

I don’t understand why people make excuses for Matt Ryan. It’s not his arm strength, it’s his decision making when he has to throw the ball down field. He is scared to stay in the pocket and make plays, and when he does go down field he is not accurate, and tends to throw interceptions (i.e. can’t read defenses). I know people think reading defenses is only a problem for “running QB’s”, but the truth is Ryan is just an average player. The only reason his completion percentage is above 60% is because his average yards per attempt is only 5 yards.
