Another New Year's resolution, sure to be broken.
I have a problem. (Many problems, but let’s stick to one.) I’m terrible at taking time off. I never use my entire vacation allotment, and the past two years I’ve hit December having taken exactly one week off in the calendar year.
So I wind up trying to play catch-up ball. Or catch-up rest. I took a week off earlier this month, and I’m sitting out until Jan. 3, 2011. (Which means I’ll miss the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which I’m sure is fine with the folks who run the thing. They hate me.) But I wanted to take this final opportunity to say thanks.
This dumb little blog keeps growing: From 1.976 million page views in 2008 to to 6.8 million last year to 8.954 million so far in 2010. Every time I think we’ve topped out, y’all prove me wrong. And for that I’m hugely grateful to one and all, even the 8.953 million of you who’ve called me an idiot.
Because I pretty much am an idiot. But my New Year’s resolution is to be a rested idiot, so I won’t be posting again until Monday. I’m going into hibernation for a few days. But I plan to return, sillier than ever, and I hope you’ll look me up in Twenty Eleven.
The AJC sports columnist is a blogging fool. But you knew that already

Enoy your time away.
Me? I will enjoy knowing that GT and CPJ are well aware that the bloom if off the rose and that is record lately is 7-9 over two years and two bowls. This proves that GT is a downtrending program and the KING of the Triple Option just got shown how you do it, by mighty AF.
bwwwwwwwwwwAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
PS FOX news caster Harris Faulkner two nights ago mentioned in her 6PM FOX broadcast that the AF mascot falcon got lost for awhile but that “it did not stop AF from BEATING GT”, she said. AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

Mark: Good for you! From all the way up here in North Carolina, I hope you get some rest and enjoy time with friends and family. We hyperactive/workaholic Americans need to learn to relax more often. I always look forward to your column and I think the ajc has the best sports page in the south.

Overall, a pretty good sports column/blog. I am not surprised that you draw a lot of interest. I certainly enjoy reading your column. The only really big goof this year, in my book, was your opinion that Auburn should sit Cam Newton down during the investigation. I was amazed that you, and many sports writers, could not see the mischief that would ensue if a player had no knowledge and was not in on the “deal” being brokered by Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister, Uncle, etc. with less than credible loose talk to the wrong type of people . . . . despite your plausible (but unjust) interpretation of SEC rules. The rules need to be changed. The kid has to have knowledge – it’s that simple. One guy came up with the “wink-nod” doctrine, which says, in effect, if a kid’s parent, uncle, brother, etc. is doing something, the kid is presumed by the rules to know about it – no credible evidence the the kid knew anything being necessary. Wow. What a great rule that would be. One school could wreak havoc on an opponent by sending out a squad of loose talkerst to contact the right relatives of the best players — and then claim there was talk aboult a deal — and the investigation would begin — and the player would sit, regardless. Luckily, the SEC came out with the right decision after the investigation since there was no evidence that Cam had knowledge. If they do find credible evidence that he was in on it, then he and Auburn will, and should, burn for it. Looking forward to reading your column/blog next year.

“Ticket sales lag………..Georgia has sold slightly less than 5,000 tickets for the Liberty Bowl, about half of the school’s 10,000-seat allotment. Another 1,000 or so will be used for players, staff and guests. The SEC covers the cost of up to 3,000 unsold tickets from a member school’s bowl allotment, leaving Georgia on the hook for about 1,000 unneeded tickets at $50 apiece.
“It just kind of is what it is,” UGA athletic director Greg McGarity said. “Yeah, you wish you could sell more.” He thinks sales were hurt by the late date on which Georgia became bowl-eligible. The Bulldogs weren’t assured of a bowl until a Nov. 27 victory over Georgia Tech evened their record at 6-6. Clinching bowl eligibility so late delayed promoting ticket sales, McGarity noted”.
Talk about 4 tickets, 4 hot dawgs and 4 cokes!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Actually for anybody to stay relevant and keep his job in the same town for so long is quite an accomplishment, congratulations. You have been a fixture in this town for decades, like the Big Chicken or White Water’s empty parking lot. Have a good sleep because we will all be here when you wake up, like little Freddy Kruegers. p.s…I really like the new A.D. Pres Adams could not have made a better choice, IMO.
However, the reality is, ticket sales lag because the team had a lousy season, and the staff has us on a run from the Sugar Bowl in the second year to the Liberty Bowl in the tenth. That should be the other way around. I think they can turn it around, but the fans have come to expect more than Memphis (no offense to Memphisto’s) in December. Which is, btw, an improvement over Shreveport. (no offense Yellow Fuzz, and how’d the vaunted CPJ offense look against a service academy? I thought so.)
Happy New Year y’all

Let’s hope by the time you get back:
* Dan Uggla has signed an extension.
* The SEC has won six bowl games.
* The Thrashers and Hawks are still in the playoff hunt.
* Jeff Schultz has stopped obsessing over Tucker Carlson.
* College basketball gets interesting.
* The Falcons have Dome field advantage.

“Enjoy time off and Happy New Year” and “Yellow Fuzz”,
You are two very miserable human beings. Try to find a life outside of hating a team. Here’s a novel idea: why don’t you try posting something positive for the school you DO support and become a FAN instead of a HATER/FLAMER on these blogs?
You two are losers on this blog and probably in life in general. For the others on the blogs, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Make it a great but safe night everyone!
Enjoy your time off Mark, you deserve it.

Well, I was doing pretty good down here in Savannah, roaming around Seiler’s yard and licking my b__s now and then. And yesterday comes the call that I’m being brought back. Seems this kid they put in as Russ has come down with a case of the runs. So here comes the white paint can again and I’m headed to the Liberty Bowl. Hey, it’s cold over there and I don’t need no ice cushion. After they use me like a 2-buck w___re,
I’ll be back to Savannah and trying to figure out how to get the paint off.
Anyway, most of us will miss Bradley. He ain’t bad. He gets about 90% of the words spelled right and he’s a good deal smarter than most of the bloggers on here. Happy New Year everybody.

Mark, tell me that I was asleep as well in hibernation and I woke up to find that the Georgia-UCF game was just a dream, kinda like the wizard of oz, accept Richt was the heartless lion that didn’t go for the touchdown in the first quarter, and the NCAA was the Oz behind that danged curtain, and Janet whatsherface was the wicked witch, oh tell me, please tell me, there is no place like home, oh toto, it was all a dream, oh please, please! There is no place like New Orleans, There is no place like New Orleans, There is no place like New orleans – are we there yet – there is no place like New Orleans and an SEC championship, its all a dream, right UGA fans, all a dream!
