Another no-show for UGA’s Caleb King, who’s a bowl no-go

This remains the highlight of Caleb King's UGA career. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Caleb King won’t play in the Liberty Bowl due to academic concerns, which means the Georgia tailback will complete 2010 having missed five games three different ways — two with an injury, two more due to suspension for failing to appear in court regarding a speeding ticket and now this latest suspension, incurred for missing at least five “academic-related appointments.”

Caleb King, it would seem, isn’t particularly skilled at showing up. He needs to remedy that. Because it’s clear even the endless patience of Mark Richt is nearing its end. Speaking of King, Richt told reporters in Memphis on Sunday: “We’ve played some games without him before, and we’ll do it again.”

It’s not as if King has been indispensable: He has had two 100-yard rushing games in three seasons. The first was his 166-yard showing against Georgia Tech in 2009 on a night when Washaun Ealey gained 183. This season King gained 100 yards at Colorado on a night that will be remember for his strange spin-around fumble at game’s end.

It has been a while now since King caused a stir by leaving Parkview High to play his senior season at Greater Atlanta Christian. He was a big deal then — the No. 1 player in Georgia who was bound for UGA. He hasn’t been nearly as big a deal since, and his time’s almost up. He’ll turn 23 next month. He needs to start showing up.

Yu bet NFL teams will want Caleb King. He’ll go in the 1st round if he can go for 10 td’s and 1000 yards in 2011. He almost did that in 2009.

without Stephen Hill, no matter how bad he is, there will be ZERO emphasis of defending the “pass” (LOL coming from Tevin Washington) and will give Air Force a better opportunity to load the box.

I can’t think of another back, besides maybe Ingram, who can pass catch AND run as well as Caleb, AND Caleb can pass pro better than any SEC RB.

So Techies…..

If you do win this game today, will you celebrate it??

I seem to remember Techies making a LOT of fun of the Dawgs winning the Independence Bowl last year and being happy about it.

For a team that made fun of us because we were happy to beat YOU, because you said YOU were awful, I better not hear a WORD of excitement if your manboobs coach wins a bowl game tonight……. and thats a HUGE “if”.

—Just because it’s not a BCS bowl (like the 3(three) we played in the past handful of years) does not mean I scream for the head coach’s head and turn my head on the program—.

UGA has played in 3 BCS Bowls since 2002. It’s unusual for people to have 8 fingers on one hand and I hope people aren’t too offensive when they stare at you.

Sorry Caleb, special Ed students don’t get accommodations, IEPs, or para pros in college. I don’t think your big brother can bail you out if this one either. Transferring is out if the question too. If college coaches need any more proof that kIds that constantly transfer high schools are a problem they need to look no further than CK. The dawg nation will be glad when this project is complete.

John Kincade: “Athony, I bet you don’t have much free time playing for Tech, with the high academic standards on you there, do you?”

Anthony Allen: “Uh, no sir. When I am not on the practice field, I am almost always studying films or the playbooks.”

I will make this statement for our friend DSUTY, Nesbitt will make an NFL squad. Caleb King will not.

Nesbitt will definitely be a project, but wasn’t he a pretty good DB in high school? Maybe his future is on that side of the ball.

This thread is EXACTLY why the dogs recruiting classes have been suB par the last two years (last year and so far this year). What recruit would want to be micromanaged and publicly humiliated almost daily if he didn’t turn out to be the next Hershal Walker or Lindale Scott? Why don’t you AH’s pick on someone your own size?

I’d like to see Caleb (and Ealey) get 20 runs a game. That’s a 100 yards a game, per back, as both average over 5 ypc. I’d expect Caleb and Ealey to both score around 10-15 td’s each, and rush for 1200-1500 yards each. Pretty amazing, with that kind of talent at RB, that Bobo continues to throw the football.

Especially when you consider the last 3 SEC Champs have averaged 215-278 yards a game rushing.
