It's no stretch to say he's the best Georgia receiver ever. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
If A.J. Green is indeed gone to the NFL, as two sources close to the Georgia program have told Zach Klein of Channel 2 Action News, he’ll leave a hollow legacy at Georgia. He’s the best-ever Bulldog receiver, and his surpassing has taken Georgia, in chronological order, to the Capital One Bowl, the Independence Bowl and the Liberty Bowl.
Part of this can blamed on circumstance: Green worked with three different starting quarterbacks in his three seasons. Part can be blamed on Green himself: At a time when his team needed him most, he got himself suspended for the silly sin of selling his jersey from a nondescript bowl for $1,000. On cue, the 2010 Bulldogs lost three of the four games he missed, thereby relegating them to yet another nondescript bowl.
There can be no complaints about Green the player. He made big plays, spectacular plays, winning plays. Had he arrived at the beginning of the decade and not its end, he might have been the difference between Georgia coming close to playing for a national championship and actually seizing one. But his first season was 2008, which was the beginning of the slide that has seen the Bulldogs go from 11-2 in 2007 to 6-6 now. He was the right man at the wrong time.
He’ll be a great pro. Of this there’s no doubt. Mel Kiper of ESPN lists him third on his latest Big Board, behind only Andrew Luck of Stanford and Da’Quan Bowers of Clemson. If there’s a difference between Green and Tech’s Calvin Johnson as collegians, it can be measured in Angstrom units. But the great Johnson at least helped lift Tech to an ACC title game in 2006. For all Green’s excellence, Georgia got worse over his time in Athens. Which doesn’t seem fair. But sometimes life just isn’t.
Twitter update: A.J. Green — he’s @ajgreen_uga8 — says he’s not going pro. Or at least not yet.
Tweet at 12:19 a.m. Thursday: “Idk where these ppl got that I’m going pro..this is def not true.”
Tweet at 12:34: “Haven’t even made a decision yet!”

Since I have first out of the way, the guy sold his jersey for money, a clear violation of the rules and he knew it. Too bad he chose to play minor league football instead of going somewhere to get an education and win championships.

Mark,
Excellent points. Also requires a serious look at WHY he didn’t do much better in his career, not only with wins and losses, but also statistically. To me it speaks volumes about our offensive coaching, in-game strategy and failure to take advantage of his exceptional talent. I think of Larry Fitzgerald, a similar player who broke all kinds of statistical records at Pitt despite having mediocrity all around him. Only conclusion I can come to is a high degree of incompetence with the UGA offensive coaching. Bring on the debate…

AJ, say it isn’t so. Dawgnation needs you back next year – cement your legacy, be the next Herschel, you’ve got plenty of NFL years ahead of you- make up for the Jersey debacle, you owe it to yourself and to your team. There is much more to living a complete life than money and your senior year at UGA will be priceless. You know in your heart it is what you really want to do, don’t sell out for the money, you won’t regret it!!

Another fine project from John Mccissic and the Summerville High School football program. And maybe the best player to come out of there. That says a lot from a school so rich in football history. Here’s something most of you may not know. When Aj played for the Greenwave, he would face rival Ft. Dorchester at least once a year if not twice in the playoffs. They had former Gator and now Bengal DE Carlos Dunlap on one end and Tarheal DE Robert Quinn on the other end, who is also projected to go early in the first round despite his not being able to play this season. It has been a good couple of years for Dorchester district 2. And Mccissic hasn’t retired yet he has now made his record almost impossible to beat. If you didn’t know, he’s the winningest football coach ever at any level.

If A.J. Green is most likely to go to the Browns he should stay in school
Nah…I actually think that the St. Loius Rams have the biggest need for a number 1 WR who can stretch the field…but they are playing themselves out of the top 10 picks…so unless they trade…and that would be a good place for A.J. Green to go and become an elite NFL WR.
Person who compared Fred Gibson to A.J. Green…are you serious? Probably were joking and stop comparing their collegiate numbers…that means sh*t in the NFL. Fred washed out of several practice squads and eventually out of the NFL, which is why he was getting this degree from UGA (finishing it).
A.J. Green will be a number 1 WR on most NFL teams when he gets drafted (instantly)
Selfishly as a UGA fan, I hope he somehow stays…but it’s just not realistic and makes no financial sense for him to do so.

What if Mel Kiper is wrong? What if he don’t know crap? Seems to me that he, and others like him, shouldn’t be allowed to ‘rank’ underclassmen, regardless if they’re eligible for the draft or not. Sure they can get independent evaluations, and should, but to be constantly reminded that some Elvis-haired know-it-all that you’re the next best thing since Calvin Johnson – only skinnier – is way too much to avoid.
Fact is, as MB has said, the young man has some unfinished business in Athens…we’ll see if he agrees.

No offense, Mr. Bradley, but the idea that you judge a player by how his team performs is not particularly bright, especially in the case of a WR. Exactly how is Green responsible for losses when the defense gives up 40 points?
And harping on the uniform suspension is equally lame. The punishment far exceeded the crime (not that there really was one), but as a typical sports media apologist for the NCAA, it’s par for the course.
Usually I give you high marks for your football and basketball opinions (baseball, not so much), but after your recent effort on the Hawks/Magic and this one, you are in a definite slump. Two straight stinkers.

Why can’t MEL talk about Juniors? They leave all the time. They get feedback from the NFL on their Draftability. AJ has no unfinished business at UGA. He made himself marketable to the NFL in probably the first 2 rounds and that is BIG money. The only people AJ may owe something to at UGA are the GAA money doners that paid for his Scholarship.

Think about it! AJ’s first year was with a future #1 draft pick at QB. The in his second year he was being thrown the ball by Joe Cox. And in this past season by a Freshman QB. What numbers would he have put up the past three years had all three been paired with Matthew Stafford?
No doubt he blew it in the jersey but the biggest reason for the lack of growth/regression was the above, poor coaching, and the lack of necessary talent. Remember GA’s record this season BEFORE he returned? 1-3. Nothing to write home about but this mediocre team finished 5-3 with him.

Agree with what you said mostly Mark except there is a HUGE difference between Calvin getting Tech to the ACC championship game and AJ getting UGA to an SEC championship game and it’s called ‘level of competition’. Much harder road to get to the SEC game. I’m sorry, it just is.

Anyone saying that AJ should return to school (if he’s truly projected in the top 10 picks) is simply naive. Do you remember Quentin Moses??? He was rated in the top half of the first round after his junior season. Did the ‘right’ thing, came back, faced double teams his entire senior year, his stats suffered, and he fell to the 4th round. The Cardinals cut him in the preaseason. A first round pick NEVER gets cut without a legit shot. If a player is projected in the first round, regardless of where, they should go.
Thanks AJ, for 3 solid years, it’s too bad the team as a whole couldn’t reach your level of individual play.

With A. J. gone it will force Richt to chamge the offense to accommodate the other players instead of depending on the passing game so much. Offensive play calling determines how long a defense gets to rest between possessions. Anyway, Where are the running backs that cement a balanced attack. Until GA decides the almighty pass cannot win by itself they will never be on top again. Why should a good running back come to UGA with the recent past history of pass, pass, pass, run??? Marino gave a little glimpse of a running plan but even with him Stafford had to get his passes in so he cold go to the NFL. The next Preacher Newton thing to appear in college football will be Preacher LeMay…Possibly not like the money thing but. Count on it this situation will be a pain in the side before that kid leaves UGA.
Uga has to decide what they want to be a minor league for the pros or a winner. Probably a poor comparison but how many Boise St. Utah, TCU players are in the pros? The Media spend too much time on the ones in the 10th grade that will be pros and not the team concept of writing about what some dl or ol may be doing to make the team better or the community better.

Based on Green’s performances against Florida, when he was mostly covered by NFL type cornerbacks, he will be an average NFL player and wide receiver in the NFL. He is a very good player, but not good enough to be a top 5 selection unless that team has no needs elsewhere. Now…if the Falcons have the number 5 pick…they should go for Green. But teams like the Falcons will not be picking that high. Teams like Carolina will…and their priority needs will not be at WR….or shouldn’t be.

@Joe, It would only make sense to come out if you are a first round draft pick if there’s a work stoppage. The agents will probably front some money to those guys because they are basically guaranteed so much money. I don’t think that the NFL will let that many games go unplayed because as of now they get all the ratings. There’s no reason for the owners or the players to miss out on that money.
AJ should leave. UGA will be there when he’s done playing and if he wants to get his degree. The millions.

plural leg·a·cies
Definition of LEGACY
1: a gift by will especially of money or other personal property : bequest
2: something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past

The answer to why Green didn’t accomplish as much as UGA is an easy one word answer: DEFENSE.
The defensive collapse at UGA is primarily the reason UGA failed to live up to preseason #1 hype in 2008 and had trouble in games they usually won before in both 2009 and 2010. Yes Stafford and Moreno going pro early didn’t help in 2009, but the Defense is the biggest problem at UGA.
Green definitely is a big reason UGA started 1-4 in 2010. I think at worse they lose 2 of those games, probably only one, if Green is eligible to play.

I know of no black folks who talk like that but that’s ok, just continue to showcase your talents and skills obviously learned from your parents. AJ sold a jersey which turned out to be a major crime while the school made millions selling tickets to come see him catch passes over the years. Go pro AJ, you can see from most of the comments what the people think of you. It is time to be concerned about your family and your own welfare. Too bad most folks blogging about you have neither the talent nor the skills to accomplish what you have done in your short life. Good luck at the next level. I remember when Emmitt Smith came out of college. They said he was too small.

Mark,
I’m with you, “…befuzzled after ‘first’…”
Reasons he might stay: his mom wants him to get a degree (HE wants his degree); the concomitant priceless senior year; unfinished business due to the sorry season; end up with the worst NFL team
Reasons he’ll go pro: the money (after he buys his mom a new house, she’ll relent); he can do summer school and finish his degree; the money; he doesn’t “owe” UGA nor the fans a darn thing (CFB is the NFL’s minor leagues)
I wonder about his body frame in the NFL; he’s pretty darn skinny. But, look back at Hines Ward when at UGA, compared to his frame now. He’s bulked up so much it makes ya wonder. Julio and Calvin, for instance, are much bigger framed. Can such a skinny WR take the pounding going up over the middle?
Yes, he’s a great one and we hope he returns.
“Chuck” @ 11:54; I don’t think it was coaching as much as it was three different QBs, the last of which was a freshman who’d never played a down of CFB. QB’s and WR’s have to play together a while, just like the O line.

Explain this: Kansas St basketball player receive free clothing from a department store and receive a 3 game suspension. AJ sells a jersey and receives a 4 game suspension. College basketball has close to a 40 game season where college football has a 12 game season. Where is the logic that the NCAA implores?

AJ needs to stay.
He is a magnificent college receiver. That’s a given. However, despite his wonderful skills, every time I see him on the field, and every time I see him leave five yards on the field by running out of bounds, I think to myself, don’t get hurt AJ. He needs 20-25 lbs more of lower body. He is Jerious Norwood waiting to happen. All the talent in the world with skinny legs and unable to stay in the lineup. Every DB in the league will be diving for his legs.
At this point all AJ has gauranteed is to get drafted in the first round. There is no gaurantee of millions.
“Will a new CBA result in an NBA-style rookie wage scale?”
“You betcha. However the two sides decide to redistribute the money saved, look for the mind-boggling rookie contracts like Sam Bradford’s to disappear under the new CBA.” Yahoo Sports

Mark Bradley, you’ve left a hollow legacy at the AJC. I think the only thing keeping you employed is your ability to generate ad revenue from the blog hits you stir up from the UGA faithful.
Green doesn’t owe you, the UGA fanbase or anyone anything. His legacy is that of many great players on the college level. Which is to play well enough to earn a job at the next level, but didn’t go “great places” while in school.
AJ should be checked into a mental hospital if you chooses to remain at UGA for another year. Or have him speak to old Tech hoop star James Forrest, who went from first round lock to undrafted by staying a extra year.

Just because a man is 7 feet tall that does not make him a basketball player. Must be something in Athens that make everything a few inches more than it is. Great for journalism or in this case selling news but until someone in this state starts judging talent in real daylight we are going to continue to watch major college football from the stands. Greatness receiver in Georgia history? There is an old man playing football in Pittsburgh I would give that one to and he has done something many Georgia players in the past have done ,that Green has not, win. This kid came back for the Colorado game and they lost. All the ink and crying about how the NCAA had cheated Georgia of wins then he returns and plays the weakest team in division one college football and loses. The only reason Georgia put this team on its schedule is because they were a patsy and then they lose to them. Colorado was not even good enough for a homecoming game. Green was in the Florida game and they lost to the worse Florida team in a decade. I was at a party Sunday night and Georgia fans were calling this freshman quarterback the best that has ever come to Georgia. These drugs have got to stop. As your loyal ,in state, opponent ,hear me, there is no fear of Georgia by most teams they play anymore. As a two generation Tech family I can promise you that was not always the case, for those too young to remember. Georgia retired Dodd early when Dooley showed up. He could see the years of wondering for Tech. If these conditions had existed back then Dodd might have coached another 15 years. I really can’t remember a lower point at Georgia since Dooley, maybe someone can help me on this. But as a Tech fan I can tell you there has never been a time like this, I can remember, since Dooley got there I feel less afraid of Georgia. No player on a team like this one and a history like Georgia’s can be called great and if I were a pro scout I would not let this source of reporting be my only eyes and ears.

I’m enjoying a nice cup of joe in front of the fire, reading the posts by the guy who just watched “Remember the Titans”. Remember that scene in the playoff game where the refs were calling all the penalties. What I can’t get is how they (GHSA) got the black refs to throw all those flags in the Calhoun-Carver game? There must have been some money in there somewhere.
Also, where is this Junior All Star game being held? I haven’t heard of that one, but it would be nice to go watch, assuming it’s not just another fantasy in some guys head.
By the way, I recall reading several articles that quoted Eric Berry as being very complimentary of Richt and the Georgia program, so I don’t think he “fled” from the state. Too funny, wait…I need to get back to that posting guy, I bet he’s at the point in the movie where they’re cheering the injured guy’s Mom as she waks into the stands. Good Luck Aj!

Green has got to learn that the media is not his friend , all they want is to break a story at his expense and he doesn’t have to make a decision for a few more weeks.
The reason I criticize AJ so much is because other when AJ signed with UGA he agreed the only thing he had control of is eating, drinking, sleeping, studying and playing football in exchange for a free education and if he did ANYTHING other than the above privileges he had to run it by the coach first and get permission , WHICH HE DID NOT. AJ should have been kicked off the team because I don’t want anyone playing for UGA that doesn’t always put the team first.
Having said that, now it’s time for AJ . He is eligible to turn pro and now he has to make the decision to go pro or stay one more year.I can accept either decision because it is nobody’s business except AJ’s but before now it’s all about the team and AJ was suppose to be one of the roll model’s and leaders this year and he failed at both.

You’re KILLING me! Reid hated Georgia, yet (again), UGA was a close second with him, and we didn’t even recruit him diligently until late in the game.
By the way, there were a slew of SG players in Athens just last weekend, including all those kids you stated would never, no way, attend UGA. Why were they there? I mean, their parents would NEVER allow them to attend UGA, but they sent them off to Athens for a long weekend?
Everything you say is so full of holes, it’s hilarious.
But, I’m off work until the 11th so I might try to dig up this ballgame. You say Decatur…Dekalb Memorial Stadium by chance?

I’m not putting anyone down or condoning any of the activity that takes place on this blog. The real UGA fans will always blog with some common sense, but earlier this year before the season started & these kids were getting trouble people were going crazy with their posts. Mind you blogs should never play a part in a kid’s educational choice, but we live in the electronic age so anything goes. By the way ” that is why ” Christian LeMay is black!

85% of the team and half the coaches are black. Racism argument fails.
As for our fanbase, the percentage of racists (of all colors), rednecks, trailer dwellers, ignorant or just plain half wits is about the same across the Southeast. So unless you can show alot of black players fleeing to play outside the region the argument fails.

You can blame Mark Richt for AJ’s underachievement when he tanked the ‘09 season by playing Joe Cox rather any of our more talented (and younger) QBs. Another example of Richt’s poor management/loyalty-to-a-fault skills, and another reason why it’s past time for him to go. Maybe Richt can leave for the pros and AJ can stay another season.
DollarDawg43

I hate to see AJ go but it, if his draft projection is accurate, it will be financially irresponsible for him to stay. That is just the reality of the world we (and he) live in. The window of opportunity for that kind of cash is very small. I just don’t think he can afford to pass it up.
Even some kind of insurance (which will be VERY expensive) to protect him if he suffers a catastrophic injury during his senior year won’t come close to what he can get with a signing bonus and some guaranteed money from the team he signs with.
That is just simple math and logic. He can always finish his education and get his degree later. I hope for his sake he does the latter if he does leave early.
As for some of the other (idiotic? inflammatory? wildly imaginative?) posts on here: How do some of you come up with that and what kind of weird enjoyment do you get out of it? Seems odd to me but to each his own I guess.

Talent-wise he is an exceptional receiver and athlete. He should do well in the pros as long as he is able to be durable. It is a real shame that he did not have the supporting cast to have the impact that a player of his caliber could have had. The DAWGS have fallen on very hard times defensively. No more Junkyard DAWGS. Poor defense has undermined the team effort so that offensively games could have been won but the defense has given them away. Haven’t been able to stop anybody, especially the good teams. Barring a miracle, with the current “talent” so to speak and the defensive scheme it looks like another disaster in the making.

Just admit it, he wants to throw it 50 times a game.
Put 2 tight ends in the backfield (he’s already moved Figgins back there), let them passblock, and then wing it 50 times a game.
Then, if he can get a QB who can throw accurately in the 4th quarter, red zone, and on 3rd downs and against winning teams, like Lemay or Mett, then he’ll be ok.
Just stop runing the ball completely.

I just wish we could have seen what AJ could do for one complete season with a good QB. His freshmen year we barely used him to begin the season…sophomore year he had Cox throwing to him (he saved a lot of poorly thrown balls that season with some incredible catches)…junior season, he misses the first 4 games.
I can’t blame him for going pro if he will be a top 5 receiver, but I can still wish to see what numbers he could put up playing as our #1 WR for 12-13 games with Murray throwing to him. He has been the best player on the field in pretty much every game he has played – definitely a once in a generation player for UGA.

Got 2 porblems with AJ Green,
1- Character issues–sold a jersey, which meant nothing to him, for $1200, got suspended, cost the team the whole season. I hope his srtock drops because of that. like the OK St’s WR Dez Bryant’s did.
2- Lack of toughness- had injuries last 2 seasons, not durable, has never played in all 12 games. He’s got a small frame, he’ll get smashed at the next level.

Speaking of underachieving teams….last year’s Gators have to be one of the top teams in that category…in college football history. You think of the talent from that team that is now playing in the NFL….many at a very high level….and the players that will soon be going into the NFL from this year’s team….and you have to ask how last year’s Bama team beat the 2009 Gator team. No one should have beat that team.
One solid answer as to why they lost to Bama…..Steve Addazio was in charge of the offensive game plan…not Mullen. Good luck at Temple, Steve, we Gator fans will not miss your stupid and unimaginative offensive play calling.

Were you watching the game? Janoris Jenkins, when he was covering A.J. Green, never caught a single pass….not one. And Janoris played him one on one most of the day. His catches came when he was doubled by a safety and a LB (one of those times even ended up being an INT in overtime). Jenkins and Haden also shut down A.J. last year as well…with Haden returning one INT that was a game changer. Janoris will be a #1 pick in the NFL draft….and might go before A.J…..depends on the teams picking 1-10….and the need of the team. I am happy to see AJ Green leave. He was talented, but had no dignity or honor. It was all about him, which seems to be rampant among the football team these days. He obviously doesn’t care about a degree, or doing the right thing after screwing the entire Bulldog Nation by selling his jersey for a few sheckels much as Judas sold out Christ. His unethical behavior and flawed character was the biggest single factor in the Dawgs’ disastrous season other than a total absence of leadership or coaching by Mark Wrecked and his overpaid staff. He will be a great Gangsta Thug playing for the legal tender in the NFL. The NFL is so trashy I have actually lost interest in professional football where every player is a millionaire and the average working man cannot afford to take his kids to a game anymore. Good riddance AJ! Leave your Red and Black in Athens and don’t come back. Now all we need to do is get rid of da Preacha Man and his gang of pretenders.

Certainly Jimmy Carter showed being a follower of Christ does not in itself make one a great leader. We all are flawed however and I think A J coming back would help make up for his letting down Dawg Nation and his team this year and help put him on the right road. As for CMR, he has proven deserves at least one more year and if this is his last, he has his faith to take him to greaer heights whereever Christ leads. I will be praying for both..

Owl, the spring game that you speak of that Mett “outplayed everybody” was the year AFTER you claim he might have been ready to start. The Spring game before that (the one you think proved his worth) he was 0-fer, with a pick. Don’t you remember some folks asking if we had wasted a scholarship on him after that game? And what leads you to think Gray was betetr prepared at that point to start? What did you see with your own eyes, (aside from ther fact that a year later he still wasn’t able to beat out a true freshman QB for #2 spot), that leads you to know that? From what I saw with my own 2 eyes, he wasn’t.

Mr. Bradley- I have just blogged at Junkyard Dawg about the “In your face” media spin that OSU and Tressel have about their 5 players who committed the same transgression as AJ at the SAME TIME that AJ sold his jersey and how their “punishment” will be not playing in the first 5 games NEXT YEAR. The players can go to the NFL and Treesel has a long time to practice and replace them. If the punishment had been timely as with AJ they shouldn’t have played THIS YEAR.
The players were ineligible to play this year; therefore, they forfeit all games in which they played and which they knew that they were ineligible. They should be replaced in the Sugar Bowl by Boise State, the goat team that you media goatherders led out for sacrifice. There should be an instantaneous outcry against this perfidious public performance portayed and pushed upon all players.
Glib is not the word for their (OSU and players) words. By appearing at seasons end and after practices have been held and time has passed to ensure no one else could be substituted for the Sugar Bowl, we the fans of college football and member schools have been duped with the preknowledge possessed by the OSU players and their school.
If the media, conferences, schools, the players and the alumni and fans don’t scream to high heaven and intervene now we will never get another chance. OSU’s actions are so disingenuous with their timing that I don’t believe I’ve ever seen such calumny that we are headed for and portrayed on college football before. Talking about a school and team that think that they are above the rules!! This is an insult to all. They should be taken to task before this day is over!
How about a column from the AJC Sports Dept as a group? Do something for the sport that you proclaim you love. Mr College Football, Mr. SEC; you wanted to be known as such, how about quickly writing a column and tell us why OSU should not be punished RIGHT NOW! Put Boise State in the Sugar Bowl while everyone has time to practice. Don’t let OSU sit on this info all season and try to get away with playing ineligible players ALL YEAR AND FOR A BCS BOWL GAME!!
Unfortunately, I believe that you all are feckless, make bloviated claims about your love of the game and are thinking of all the reasons that you can cover yourselves instead of uncovering this abomination portended upon the future of NCAA rules. If they don’t apply to all then they apply to none.If OSU plays I will not blame any team for breaking rules that don’t apply to everyone in order to play in a BCS game , enjoy the approbation and later tell everyone that you cheated.
Good Luck to us all.

AJ 2542 career yard. Jeffery 2150. 7.5 TD’s for both a year. 17.2 to 16 per catch favor Jeffery. Better blocker, Jeffery. Niether miss a ball. UGA better OL better QB’s. Switch teams Jeffery has the better career. Jeffery is better and will make the best pro. Oh, he is more physical too.

This OSU picture gets worse and worse. Since when does it count that the school didn’t teach them the NCAA rules correctly? I advocate right now that the Dawgs and the SEC should cease teaching the rules and let that ride as the excuse. This goes back to 2008 folks. Are we all being played for stupid by the arrogance of OSU and the NCAA. Why shouldn’t the kiods say that they fell asleep during classes on NCAA rules and the U take it on the chin for not keeping them awake?
NO! OSU knew the rules and they didn’t report the “Faus pas” the players made? Get outta here! The OSU President, AD, Football Coach(s) and others are responsible for what their players do or don’t do concerning the rules that we all play by and punishment is meted out by the Rules Committee who hold the school responsible for knowing. This punishment does not fit the rules crime that AJ and others have been held to.
Balderdash!! Who are they all kidding? The rest of us sheep , I guess. Since when does the same rule for AJ not apply to these Purveyors of the Glib Tongue? They had to rehearse their media conference to prevent laughing in our face. Doesn’t anyone else discern this put-on by OSU in league with the Big10 Commish and the NCAA? I don’t get it. It’s a slam at AJ, UGA and the SEC.
Pretend that any team in the SEC can come out with this timing and expect to punish players that either won’t be with the team next year and have time to replace the others for those 5 games. What would the college football scene be like if we said,”Well, AJ will be punished severely by not playing the first 5 games for UGA NEXT YEAR!!”. And playing an ineligible player (s) doesn’t count this year because we didn’t give AJ the proper training classes for the rules. BS of the first order. Pom de Rue!!
OSU is guilty of knowingly playing ineligible players this year and will continue into the BCS Bowl series with these ineligible players as well. Wonder who looked up that technicality before announcing at this late date? With NCAA approval? When did the NCAA take the offenses on to be able to agree and add an extra game TO NEXT YEAR’S PUNISHMENT? As slow as they are they must have known during the season and should have warned OSU about playing ineligible players.
If OSU gets away with this poorly contrived technicality and reporting with this NCAA slap on the hand, I will campaign mightily for the SEC to pull out of the NCAA . They should lose scholarships for their complicity. They should be placed on probation.
Any right-thinking college football fan should implore everyone to nor watch the Sugar Bowl this year. Advertisers are getting your dollar for watching an outlaw team. Money paid to the conferences will still be there, but we can show the fan’s disdain for OSU’s repeated illegalities that get swept under the rug every other year by shunning this game. Maybe advertiser pocketbooks can help bring some semblance of fairness and not reward the arrogance of a school’s program that spits in all pur faces.

I think ther still be a DRAFT enen if there is a LOCKOUT correct? The Senior players will not have to wait to be drafted in 2011 will they? I believe the DRAFT will be held as usual. If I am wrong will someone please give proof that there will be no Draft in the even of a LOCKOUT.

Calvin Johnson was great. It was a shame he played with Reggie Ball. But for it to be implied that AJ’s college career is “hollow” because Georgia underavhieved during his tenure is rediculous. The team was MUCH better when he played, and he can be thanked for helping us avoid bowl ineligibility. If he were going to take us any further than that, he would have had to play defense.

There isn’t a single one of us, no matter which team we are a fan of, that wouldn’t take the money and go. You draft five star players they start as freshmen, play three years then go to the NFL. You could solve the problem by no recruiting such good players. (Ingram, Jones and Darius from Bama will all go as well, along with Cam and Nick from AU).

Mark,
AJ Green is a great player but why do you have to compare him to Calvin. In my opinion, it shows that you like UGA more than GT at a minimum.
Is AJ Green better than Bebe Thomas?
Your opinion is no more important than anyone else in this state. Why don’t you interview people like Mel Kiper, Chris Fowler, Kirk Herb, and Scott Kennedy and see what they think about a comparison between Calvin Johnson and AJ Green.
This highlights the arrogance of a UGA fan, in my opinion. GT fans need to get more arrogant and start comparing Dwyer to Herschel. At least Dwyer won an ACC Championship and ACC Player of the Year in his college career. So the comparison can be a little closer.
Merry Christmas and good luck trying to convince whoever that AJ Green is the best WR ever to play college football. Remember, Calvin Johnson was voted the best WR ever to play college football in 2007 by the fans on Rivals.com. Champ Bailey was voted the best CB ever to play college football. I’m sure UGA fans agree with the Champ Bailey vote.

If there is still anyone left that doesn’t believe there is a huge double-standard and bias towards the Little 11 with the national media and NCAA, look no further than the current 6 OSU players who were popped doing far worse things than what AJ Green ever did. NCAA bylaws, guidelines, loopholes, what have you, they should not be playing in the Sugar Bowl, as everyone knows.
UGA vs Florida series, wide outs, etc.
December 24th, 2010
11:47 am
UGA greatest wide out was Terrence Edwards, who dropped a David Green easy pass in his hands, while in full stride, crossing the field and no one within 15 yds of him, going toward the Florida goal. Period. He made OTHER huge catches that helped Green on to becoming a historic NCAA winning QB. Edwards is one of the best in UGA history.
Another great tight end and still in the NFL was Randy McMichael. With UGA on the Florida 5 yd line he DROPPED two easy Eric Zeir balls in a row!!! It was raining but while i was in UGA in the late 60s, we stomped Florida like 56-10 in a bad, rain storm. You can catch the ball Randy, in the rain, just not that day.
AJ Green is UGA’s greatets wide out? No way …………….he made some nice catches but he only played about 2.2 complete years of 3 and with his clothing sale and the injuries here and there, he did NOTHING FOR UGA. NOTHING. He will be soon forgotten and even I would never urge him to skip the NFL for the Red & the Black. Who needs him anyway???
There will be others like Terrence Edwards and Brice Hunter ( RIP ) and Jimmy Orr and Leonard Pope and KRIS DURHAM, who was UGA’s BEST wide out in 2010.
Merry Christmas!!
PS sorry to hear about those Yellow Jackets that are academically ineligible.

I recall the 2009 LSU game and to his credit, AJ Green made a fabulous TD grab with about 145 seconds left on the clock in Sanford Stadium. He celebrated and was called for it and we were penalized for that crap and then we kicked off to LSU from our 15 ? and in typical UGA form, we lost of focus and let LSU return that ball to our 45 or 40 yds line.
Next play, toss sweep to Charles Scott and TD over lil Rennie Curran. UGA LOST THAT GAME.
By the way, Orson Charles also celebrated a nice catch vs LSU and he ALSO was penalized and THAT cost UGA a TD and we possibly did not even get a FG out of that particular series. Blame for that 09 LSU LOSS can be spread around but AJ was prominent late in the game and it hurt UGA more than it helped UGA.
AJ did nothing ………………..nothing ………………..for UGA.
Let us get past this guy ……………..he did nothing for UGA.

He is the same AJ Green who said, when the NCAA came a calling regarding illegal benefits 3 months ago : “I have never been in Miami.”
You don’t have to be in Miami, I replied then, to be Guilty of taking illegal benefits.
AJ Green knew that, then, too.
Only he – like Mark Richt – are liars.
Proven habitual liars.
AJ Green gets injured, on the average about every 5 games.
He is going to turn down the # 3 pick in the NFL Draft.
Yeah, right – Morgan Fairchild – that’s it, she is my wife.
That is like saying with 20 Losses the last 5 years, averaging a 4-Loss season over the last entire 5 years now, that Mark Richt is the best Bulldogs’ football coach of all-time with his 3-9 record vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams and with his 10 other games lost as well against not even Top 25 Final AP Poll teams.
Mark Richt cannot beat the great football teams in the 10-Year Mark Richt Era. Mark Richt did beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team in 2001 beating # 4 vols but he lost 4 games 2001. Mark Richt did beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team in 2005 beating # 6 LSU but lost 3 games 2005 as well. And, Mark Richt did beat # 9 Auburn in 2006, but lost 4 games 2006 as well.
How the frig is that great, with Mark Richt’s 10 Losses in 10 years to teams not even ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll.
8 of the 10 Mark Richt Era seasons were in fact 14-game seasons; yet, he isn’t even averaging 10 wins a season – while 25 other teams are averaging 10-win seasons over the last 5 years.
It’s his coaching staff hires; and, that of course is Mark Richt’s own personal fault. He is a Christian lest we forget, first and foremost : Not Unit, Corps, God, Country.
