Who you for, UGA fans? The Evil Genius or Nick UnFairley?

"Good luck, Stevie boy. We're all counting on you." (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Three years ago yours truly paid a midweek visit to Columbia, S.C., for Steve Spurrier’s weekly briefing. Toward the end, I mentioned that a brand new AJC.com poll had just reconfirmed that the Ol’ Ball Coach was — ahead of even Urban Meyer, who was coming off a BCS title — the man Georgia fans most loved to hate.

“Glad they haven’t forgotten me,” said Spurrier, who seemed pleased.

Postscript: Four days later, Spurrier and South Carolina came to Sanford Stadium and beat Georgia 16-12.

The Bulldogs have nothing to do with this year’s SEC championship game, which will be staged Saturday at the Georgia Dome. (Fun fact: Seven different SEC schools have qualified for the title game since last Georgia did in 2005.) But Spurrier will be here, and he might actually be the sentimental favorite. Because here are your choices:

• In one corner, the Evil Genius and his Gamecock minions, who are new to this championship thing.

• In the other, RoboCoach Gene Chizik and Nick UnFairley and, lest we forget, Cam Newton.

For whom should Dawgs root?

Auburn fans love their team. Almost nobody else does. Let’s state for the record that Newton is the nation’s best player and Fairley its best defender, but we also must concede that the Tigers lead the world in irrational exuberance.

This isn’t to say South Carolina has been without sin. Tight end Weslye Sanders was kicked off the team without playing a down this season, and several Gamecocks apparently got the William Shatner rate at Columbia’s Whitney Hotel over the summer. And that “2001″ introduction at Williams-Brice Stadium was pretty tired back in … well, 2001.

But Auburn, as we know, has become the new standard in raised eyebrows, what with Fairley’s repeated slams of  Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray (see YouTube video below) to the series of revelations/allegations that led to Newton being declared ineligible by Auburn. (He was re-instated, after a timeout of one day, by the NCAA.)

Viewed alongside strutting Auburn, the Gamecocks seem rather gentlemanly.  So now I’m asking a question I never thought I’d ask: Georgia fans, are you rooting for Spurrier?

Or, put another way, is there really a cold front bearing down on Hades?

Auburn has shown without a doubt it has no class. What once was a great sport has now become a money driven gladitorial contest. Auburn leads the group in dirty play; par for the course these days. It’s a pity.

If Fairley goes after Garcia like he did to Murray I hope the players on the USC side go after the fat, cheap hitting SOB and take BOTH knees out and ruin fat *** life and career. cheap shots like the fat b*tch took is out of line
he should have been thrown out for the rest of the season, but he wasnt even thrown out of the game

Do it fairly and i bet you some crazied USC fan paints a target on you

I do think the hit in the back with Fairley’s helmet is the only cheep shot. the other hits are close but could go either way… They aren’t as bad any crybaby uga fans are making them… uga fans are just trying to place blame on everyone else but themselves… Get over it! uga sucks bad this year. UGA will get better again…. at least the hits from Fairley are contiuations of plays where as uga thugs went after an individual player… Just goes along with their arrests… Really know how to get quality players there!

The reason DAWG fans are upset is we discipline our own players for infractions, while other programs do not.

Auburn will play todays game with a professional quarterback.

A.J. had to miss 4 games for selling his own jersey.

Perhaps the most salient aspect of this entire blog is the cognitive ineptitude of Auburn fans.

Education in the state of Alabama must really be lacking……….

By the grace of God y’all beat Northwestern in last years bowl game. Remarkable how far a ringer can take you……….

Chaplain in Iraq, first of all let me say THANKS for your service. This little football game is miniscule compared to your work. Without all of you, we couldn’t enjoy the freedoms that we have, including posting on this game as well as playing this game. Please convey my thanks to all in your company.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post. The NCAA has had a double standard with regards to the two programs. However, I can’t help but wonder if there is a method to their madness. Maybe they have to have the FBI finish their work before they have teeth in their case. If Newton was paid, and the evidence is very strong that he was (1) why would he go to *AU? 2) why did he say “the money’s too much at *AU? 3) *they have a long history of this, have they suddenly stopped?. 4)Bowden’s own words, etc. etc) then *they’re paying other players as well. It’ll all come out, just like it did at SMU. And IF the NCAA is turning the other cheek, for whatever rea$on, I have a feeling that someone from the vast army of enemies that *AU has created (not by winning but by a history of classlessness and deceit) will come forward. It’ll happen.

bigcali,

Georgia leads the SEC with personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties this year. They led the NATION in 2009 (with 30), and 2008 (with 33).

They also lead the nation in player and athletic director arrests this year.

How well is that discipline working?

I don’t know why this game is even being played. The SEC West DOMINATED the SEC East. The East only wins were SC against Bama and the two that beat Ole Miss(WOW)!! The West won ever other game that was played between the two. Ole Miss only SEC win was against Kentucky. Give the title to the cheating Auburn team and let them move on to the NC game. The SEC will pay for it in the long run and hopefully Commissioner Silve will get FIRED. You want to see a double standard, compare Renaldo Sydney’s case at Miss. State to Cam Newton at Auburn. Sydney has already missed a full season plus 9 games this year for the basketball team while Cam got a handshake. The NCAA and Silve both SUCK!! This COWBELL is for the both of you!!

A day to commemorate

December 4th, 2010
1:23 pm

Attention, everyone, especially dawgtards. Today is the second anniversary of Saint Jan Kemp’s death. To commemorate her life, we will now observe a moment of silence in memory of Saint Jan, who exposed the shameful practices at UGA that were initiated and carried out by slimeball Vince Dooley. Dooley’s image as a coach and a nice guy were forever shattered during the trial, not to mention the one million dollars that dawgtards had to pay Saint Jan. These practices of recruiting morons and coddling them for four years, them tossing them out like garbage, are still going on, but at least the world knows what’s happening in Athens now.

And now, the moment of silence…

Mark (Since I’m older than you I may address you this way).

Your blatant and inexcusable hatred of Auburn has ignited a firestorm in the UGA babies that can’t be put out until they beat Auburn again. I don’t think your mama would be proud of you for instigating such self-righteous negativity based on what-YOU-want-to-be-the-truth. I’m sure that you learned way back in Sunday School (I don’t remember seeing you there much), that there are ten (10) commandments and a Golden Rule…”do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. I’ll be the first to admit and confess, I’m a dang sinner. But after having lost a child, four parents and young friends to untimely and horrific deaths, I must tell you that there are far better ways of living than sitting as judge and jury for ANYONE else other than yourself. Mark, oh Mark, stop this. I know your job probably rests on how many “hits” or responses you get and that’s a sad measure of success.

For those of you dissing Auburn, Aubarn, Allbarn, etc., please realize that those of us who attend or have graduated from Auburn possess something that is unique and CANNOT be duplicated…WE ARE ALL IN FOR AUBURN AND WE ARE FAMILY! Aunt Bea and Miss Cora have traveled the world and have found in the far reaches that if we so much as wear an Auburn visor, there is always someone there to give us a hug. (And I know some of you “perverts” will call that “gay”.) But it’s the truth, Auburn is one big happy family. And we don’t have hatred for the other SEC schools unless they’re playing Opie’s rec league team…and there won’t be any “special remedies” wrapped for them under the Christmas tree.

Truly, Mark, I wish you would convey the message (but July is not that cold) that Cora and I have heard from well-wishers all over the country (with the exception of UGA folks) encouraging, supporting and wishing the Auburn Tigers to win the National Championship. But oh my, Mark honey, those UGA students have got the foulest language and worst behavior of any school in the SEC…except maybe Florida….. Cora, Andy, Barnie, Opie and I were down at St. Simons back in late October and we were appalled at the crude behavior, disrespect and trashy mouths we heard. Cora had to retire to her room while Opie kept asking, “Paw, what does f****mean and why do all these young folks say it all the time?” Lands, Mark son, I could just go on and on but I need to go bake an apple crumble. Maybe you should ask your mama if you should have a change of heart and remind you of what you were taught in Sunday School about “judging lest ye not be judged” and following the Golden Rule (but then again I don’t remember seeing you at SS?). Also ask her for her blackberry cobbler recipe for me, please.
