Reporting from Auburn, this guy here likes South Carolina

Auburn, Ala. — I’m sitting here listening to Gene Chizik. And if you’ve ever wondered how RoboCoach would sound, listen to Gene Chizik. But I digress.

I’m sitting here listening to Gene Chizik, and I’m thinking, “I really like South Carolina’s chances Saturday.”

Not because of Gene Chizik. He’s obviously a good coach. But the guy who’ll be on the other sideline in the Georgia Dome is pretty good, too, and Evil Genius is bringing a pretty good team with him. And it’s a pretty good team that won’t be shocked by anything Cam Newton does, given that it was South Carolina against which the Camster had his night of arrival.

Auburn has had a great season — doesn’t get any greater than going undefeated in the SEC, does it? — but I still wonder about its defense. I especially wonder about Ted Roof, the Georgia Tech grad whose uncoordination of George O’Leary’s defense doomed the Jackets to being one of those good-hit-no-field teams a decade ago. Even the RoboCoach described the Tigers’ defensive effort in falling 24 points behind Alabama last week as “not acceptable.”

South Carolina has the better defense and the better coordinator (Ellis Johnson, who’s as solid as Stone Mountain). South Carolina also has a running back — Marcus Lattimore, the freshman who chose the Gamecocks over Auburn — capable of defusing Cam Newton by keeping the nation’s best player on the bench. As RoboCoach noted, South Carolina leads the SEC in time of possession.

I don’t doubt that a team coached by Steve Spurrier and staffed by Lattimore and the great receiver Alshon Jeffrey can contrive to put up four touchdowns on a neutral field against the men of Roof. (The Georgia Bulldogs had four in Jordan-Hare Stadium, lest we forget.) I realize Auburn is the world’s best team at playing from behind, but after a season of so many peaks and so many comebacks, the most recent being the epic rally in Tuscaloosa, how much the Tigers have left — cliche alert! –  in the tank.

Cam Newton is the nation’s best player. Nick Fairley is the nation’s best defender. (Sorry, Georgia fans.) Auburn has been at worst the nation’s second-best team — Oregon has been pretty darn good itself — over the course of the three-month regular season. But for this one game under the off-white roof, I like South Carolina. I like it so much I’ll give you the score:

Gamecocks 33, Tigers 31.

I agree with sketicism towards Roof, but after the first 20 minutes or so, AU’s defense held Bammer to just 3 points for nearly 40 minutes. Either the AU players changed by playing better, Roof made adjustments or Bammer quit executing. My concern is why we come out slow repeatedly. One of these days they may find themselves too far behind to recover, and the best team on the field may not win that day. I would much prefer a lead and then pound on the opponent and win with a two possession cushion.

To the Georgia Tech Frat-Boys who sat right behind me at the game Saturday night,

First, you looked kind of cute in your yellow pants, sweater vests and bowties. I guarantee you all the UGA ladies were wishing they could cross over to the dark side just to have a single date with you.

But you showed a lot of class this night. You are VERY lucky you were not punched in the face when you would scream “To Hell with Georgia” and boo each and every player being announced for Senior Night.

Your whiskey laced breathe and non-stop ramblings were exactly what you seem to ridicule UGA fans at Sanford Stadium for doing. So thanks for proving that you are in NO WAY better than any other student/fan/alum who also tailgates all day for a night game against a hated rival. For a second, you and your Tech bretheren had me believing you were sainthood, good christian fans.

You guys disappeared in the 3rd Quarter, after Justin Houston picked up the ball from your battered running back who just got LIT-UP by Akeem Dent. I havent witnessed a vanishing like that since Randy Shannon after an embarrassing loss to Central Florida. I hope you boys made it home safe.

Hey Mark…..I think the Gamecocks could have beaten Auburn the first time. Spurrier got away from the run and panicked and put in his backup QB when he neededa drive the most that resulted in an interception. If he lean on Lattimore and not get caught up in his Florida days of wanting to throw it all over the yard, I agree with you that the gamecocks can take them out.

I’m not quite sure why you are in Auburn. You obviously hate the Tigers, as every “article” you’ve ever written indicates. You preach about how great SC is, but fail to mention that Auburn has already beaten the Gamecocks once this year. Alas, you’ll stay muddled in your mediocrity of so-called journalsim, with your fingers in your ears screaming Auburn is the worst. You write for the AJC, so I would expect some pro-Georgia bias, but this is just rediculous. I’m not saying you can’t be a fan, but you should at least show some professionalism. Please explain to me how that small offensive line is going to stop AU’s large defensive line? Garcia got rocked in AU…WE CRUSHED/HURT Latte! If you remember Alshon had some circus catches against AU in that game…you will not see those catches two times in a row…He will get his numbers but it wont be like it was last time.

Last time SC played Auburn, Auburn was still getting into their offense. They haven’t even opened up the entire playbook like they have been doing past 3 games. For you to just list off all of SC’s pros and just say “hey SC wont be surprised of Cam” is very ignorant of you.

This is SC’s first time under the lights…you dont think they will be nervous to perform? You don’t think they will be worried to need to score fast and score a lot? Garcia is not the smartest kid on the block. He will give up interceptions and throw the ball in dumb areas…

I feel in this game all it will take is a turnover by SC and if AU can capitalize SC will feel they are behind the 8-ball and it will be downhill.

You didn’t even mention what Michael Dyer put on SC…yeah i think it was over 100…

Your hatred for AU comes out every so often…and today is the day. You brag about SC’s defensive coordinator..why not brag about the BEST coordinator in college football..ie Mussy

(He’s not motivated to do that week-after-week like he used to be, and sometimes just goes through the motions.) South Carolina does have a fine team. Garcia is a good QB, and Alshon Jeffrey is an outstanding receiver…underrated a bit by being in the same conference with Julio Jones and A.J. Green. Plus, USC has Marcus Lattimore…who may very well help to keep Cam Newton off the field. (At least, enough to make a difference.) So you could be right, Mark. At least, if USC wins, it won’t be as big an upset to me as the rankings might indicate.
I still think Auburn will win. They’re a better defensive team than South Carolina, and certainly their equal in offense. Going to be a very good game, though.

Mark had AU fans as the worst fans in the SEC earlier this year in an article. You make some good point about our defense. The problem will be for USC to slow down our defense. Teams have been able to do it for a period of time but we make adjustments. Lattimore is a special player that Spurrier will completely wear out until he decides to go to the NFL. I see this being close early and Garcia will lose the game in the second half or Spurrier will just pull him.

PS-I would describe Mark Richt as a Robocoach as well. You don’t have to be a personality to coach. I care about the W’s and not whether the guy is dynamic in front of the camera.

SC went into that game thinking Cam was a passing first qb, much like Jamarcus Russell. It’s not as if this guy had run crazy up to that point in the season. SC will have a much better defensive scheme this time around. Remember, USC ranks 5th in the country in run defense for a reason. Take away the Auburn game and they’ve given up less than 800 rushing yards in 11 games. Also remember, SC turned the ball over 4 times in the 4th quarter of that first game (in Auburn) and lost by 8. The chickens do a favor for those wishing for a playoff system and make a complete mess out of the BCS by posting a 31-28 win.

The remainder of the season for both teams is over, a couple of meaningless podunk so-called “Bowl” games. Give the credit and your energy to two championship teams, one of which has a shot at a national championship, which will be great for the best conference—and this comes from a Tech fan who loves college football, period—in the nation hands down, the SEC.

As for me, I will be at the game pulling for Auburn so they will have a shot at the national title.

After the Iron Bowl the Auburn defenders said that they really didn’t change their defensive schemes in the second half – very few adjustments were made – they just started playing up to their potential. Also, Goggins and Blanc were back from first half suspensions due to punches against UGA.

I just listened to Bill Oliver (google him if you don’t know) on Paul Finebaum’s show and he said basically the same thing – watching the tapes Auburn was calling the same defenses, they just started executing and playing at a higher level. This has been the same song and dance all year long. Auburn’s defense may not be great, but due to the depth of talent they are able to wear other teams out by the end of the game (or in Alabama’s case, half way through the second quarter). See the 4 turnovers by USC in the first game and OBC’s poor decision to pull Garcia and put in a freshman.

Auburn knows how to stop Lattimore and I believe they’ll hold him to 50 yards or less. Alshon Jeffrey is Auburn’s big problem – we couldn’t defend him in September and he will be a handful on Saturday.

My prediction: AU 38, USC 28, but the game won’t really be that close.

Dawgboy

Let’s face it. Last time these two teams played no one knew about Camburglar. Now Ellis Johnson knows and Spurrier knows. And SC’s DL is about as good as there is.

You can scoff at Lattimore all you want but he had a better year than the little Auburn freshman back (forget his name-wow what an impression), but they have those tall receivers and as far as I’m concerned Jeffrey is the best receiver in the country. So, yes they held Lattimore down last time. Pick your poison, Auburn. Spurrier will not be denied his 7th SECC.

jadennis

The “evil genius” lost to Alabama in 1999 by one point, 40-39.

After getting his second chance at the Tide in the SEC title game, the genius made adjustments that Alabama proceeded to work over to the tune of a 34-7 win.

Spurrier is a great coach. An all-timer of a Hall of Famer. But he didn’t look like it in that SEC title game in 1999. And he didn’t look like it 4 weeks ago against Arkansas when he got run over by 3 touchdowns 41 to 20 (in which Lattimore had 30 yards).

South Carolina may very well win Saturday…they are a good team. But it seems like Mark has only contemplated the reasons SC might win, and not compared them to the reasons Auburn might win.

The Carolina pass defense is just as bad as Auburn’s (they are ranked #99 to Auburn’s #104). And the rush defenses are essentially equal as well (both top 10). So really, the defenses are not that different.

So that brings us to the offenses. Auburn averages nearly 100 yards and 8 points more per game. Oh, and time of possession, SC averages 31.5 minutes, Auburn 28.5 minutes. If both stay true to their average on the year, then TOP won’t be a factor in the game. Just ask Oregon how important it is.

@ Dawgboy…no one is scoffing at Lattimore, he’s a very good player. But look a little closer at the stats before declaring him superior to Dyer.

M. Lattimore – 1,114 yards on 232 carries – 4.8 yards per carry.
Michael Dyer – 886 yards on only 146 carries – 6.1 yards per carry.

Give Dyer another 86 carries and he’d have over 1,400 yards. Lattimore is good, but Dyer is at least his equal. I think 3 years from now we’ll see that. Well, “we” will see that, you may still be ignorant. ; )

I don’t see Auburn running away with this – after all they’ve had close games with just about every SEC team they’ve played, including SC…so if it comes down to one or two mistakes that could mean the difference, then again anything could happen. And I also believe that SC will handle Mr. Fairley….I mean if Aaron Murray’s sternum could hurt Fairley’s shoulder, then it would appear that he’s not so tough after all. I do think that the SEC office will alert the officials that the body-slams on that concrete floor could be an issue, so watch for some quick whistles on Fairley – kinda like that first one at Alabama…of course he ended up winning the game with his fumble-inducing tackle of the Ala QB and subsequent recovery of same.

I mean you can’t deny that Auburn’s demonstrated that they know how to get the most for their money when it comes to football players – sorry couldn’t help myself.

I don’t think Lattimore will necessarily be held to under 50 yards….but why is that such a crazy notion?

He had 33 against Auburn, 79 against Kentucky, 30 against Arkansas, and 48 against Clemson (on 23 carries). He can be stopped…it’s not like he’s Adrian Peterson.

Again, not saying he WILL be stopped, but just pointing out that he HAS been stopped several times this year.

MURPHY – definitely not overconfident, I just know that when Auburn has faced a great back in recent times, they’ve been able to stuff him. He had 39 against us in September, and I believe we are a better and at this point more determined team. Our defensive line is great with a lot of depth for rotation, it’s our secondary that is problematic when facing tall receivers. I believe it AU gets beat it will be due to USC’s receivers, and the good Garcia showing up rather than the one, when hassled by defenders, makes freshman mistakes.

South Carolina 14 6 7 0 27

They reached their peak last Saturday against a downtrodden Alabama team.
Had two weeks to study and practice for that game and still came out slow.
Bama gave up in the second half and let up so much they were over taken.

Not to worry…. Cam newton is a great player… WHEN his team executes. However, this weekend will be the one game to remember.

You have a team that really has nothing to lose and everything to gain by winning.
You have another team that is feeling this sense of entitlement and mystical ability to come from behind (eight games already this year) and expects to be undefeated…. unfortunately they have no Tiger left in the tank… I predict a loss for Auburn of epic proportions, Lee Corso to crawl across the field at Williams-Brice stadium and the taste of New Orleans aka the Sugar Bowl for this years Carolina Gamecocks…

Mark, I’ll give you props on picking SCAR to win the SEC East way back in the beginning of 2010. I laughed at that prediction, and actually commented on that article that the only way SCAR would have any chance whatsoever of winning the East was if Spurrier found a solid RB and actually re-structured his offense so that it was run oriented or at least balanced. SCAR has had a pretty solid defense for a few seasons now, but when you predicted SCAR winning the East, I saw no evidence that Spurrier was willing to commit to a balanced attack. But anyway…Good call Mark.

However, as tempted as I am to pick SCAR in this one, and as much as I would like to see them win, I’ve been burned too many times this season picking against Auburn. I picked SCAR, Bama, and LSU to beat Auburn b/c I thought each of those teams had a much stronger defense and better DCs that would shut Cam down. Miss. State also has a better defense but still lost. Cam and Nick Fairley are certainly carrying that team. But there’s something else about Auburn that separates them from the rest of the SEC…they just find a way to win. It may be close and defensively ugly, but they find a way to win. Every defense in the SEC got torched in at least one game this season.

Auburn didn’t need any turnovers to win, they were putting the clamps down on USC but regardless take all the points off tutnovers and Auburn still wins.

BTW, turnovers aren’t always the sign off a clumsy offense, although it was for us against Tech, they can be the sign of a super strong defense. Ask Ingram and McElroy about that Auburn d… if McElroy even remembers.

Mark are you the same AJC commentator that rated Auburn’s fans the most obnoxious fans in the SEC. If you are; then you and your lousy, baseless, subjectively bias prediction can kiss my orange and blue arsh.
Without two Auburn turnovers early and in their own territory USC would not have been within 8 points. They probably would have lost by three touchdowns.
So why is it I keep hearing how USC lost because they had 4 4th qtr. turnovers? Auburn’s offense went conservativie in the 4th quarter to protect a lead. This strategy almost cost Auburn the game. Don’t expect CGC and CGM to make the same mistake this go round.
No offense USC fans. I know USC will be tough to beat a second time, but Auburn has come to far to let down now! I don’t expect a game like last September. Expect Auburn to score often in both halves of this game and Auburn’s defense to shut down any running game. I really don’t expect Garcia to finish the game, especially if he has to throw often to keep up.
I see something close to the Auburn vs. Ole Miss game. Auburn by 17.

All you hear from them is that “Wawar Daum EEagul” “stuff”. “We’re the best team in the history of the universe”, etc.,etc. It doesn’t even matter to them that it will all be for naught, and that it will be proven that, yet again, the program is filthy. Let’s see here: “Robo coach.” Sorry he doesn’t waste time being witty for the media. Auburn fans, players, coaches and the Auburn administration love him. The media can learn to adjust.

“Ol’ ball coach, Evil Genius”, etc . The guy is on a four-game losing streak vs. Auburn, dating back to his days at Florida. Not much to fear there.

Ellis Johnson was going to stop Auburn’s offense in the Sept. game. 500 yards and 35 points later Johnson didn’t look all that smart.

Lattimore: Auburn stuffed him the first game. Auburn stuffed Alabama’s duo of Ingrham and Richardson, holding the pair to 60 yds. Another stufferino coming right up!

Auburn’s Dyer doesn’t have to carry the team like Latt does at USCe. Dyer has 896 rushing yards averging 6.1 per carry, which is a better average than Latt. Fellow RB McCalebb has 771 and Auburn’s #3 RB has 385. That total of 2,052 is nearly double Lattimore’s and that’s not even considering Newton’s 1,330 yards.

Much has been made of USC-light’s four turnovers in the first game. Auburn had two. Points off turnovers in that game: USCe~14, AU~0. If turnover points had been even in that game, Auburn would have won by 22.

Jefferies is a great receiver and he’ll get his catches and yards. Jefferies, Childs, Green, Jones, on and on got their catches and yards against Auburn. None of them got a win.

Looks like a Tiger celebtation in Hot-lanta!

If the cocks play like they did against Bama and Florida, they’ll win by two scores. If not Auburn will win. The key is Garcia being effective and avoiding turnovers. I think Gurley goes off. Auburn will double or triple JEFFREY (not “Jeffries” he’s a f-ing belitnikoff finalist as a true sophomore, learn the name). Don’t know if lattimore goes off or not. Think he will have a nice day catching the ball. Last time these teams played, two starting o-linemen for Carolina were out with injuries. I think you hear us coming.

Auburn wins.

Auburn 42
USC 17

Garcia (already with his arm in a sling) will be out by the 2nd quarter thanks to Fairley. Without Ben Jones doing multiple dirty shots on Fairley he won’t be challenged to play dirty, I think a single simple sack and Garcia is out.

At which point Auburn smells blood and comes alive and shuts them down. Who scores first doesn’t matter as it won’t affect the psyche of either the Auburn team or the fans in the stadium. They won’t get down.

Lattimore won’t get past Fariley and company, mind you – company. They may pass and Auburn may do a bend don’t break scheme when it comes to passing while waiting for the defense to shut them down. Heavy blitzing will stop South Carolina very quickly. This is a team mind you that’s lost 3 games. They are not undefeated.

Auburn will play to its strengths but I think for the first time they will air it out deep taking pressure off the run at which point we will probably see a big game out of Dyer and McCalleb? (sp?)

Spurier was a good coach, not so much anymore. He is starting to own us but not really anyone else. Big win over UF is meaningless this year. South Carolina has never been and never will be the UF nor the UF 1990s style that Spurrier ran. Garcia is not capable of leading that team. Their backup QB maybe, but too many holes overall.

I think what bodes well for Auburn is that many people are picking South Carolina as if its Florida. Auburn is probably as pissed about last week as they are ecstatic as how they responded.

I’m thinking this is much closer to last years SEC game where Alabama blew the doors off Florida then it is to the earlier South Carolina vs Auburn game or last weeks. This won’t be close.

Fairley will be a non-player, Garcia WILL make it through the whole game and I’m willing to bet he throws for OVER 300 yards.

I’m also willing to bet that Marcus Lattimore rushes for over 100 yards.

Cam Newton may get lucky and rush for 60-70 yards but it won’t be enough….

I’m not going to ruin the game for Auburn, they’re going to ruin it for themselves….

Try and get some sleep now, you’re going to need it for the game.. and you’ll be up late on Saturday consoling all your friends and family over the trouncing Auburn took in the SECCG, and you can’t believe how close they came to winning and going to the National Championship, and how it’s unbelievable that TCU is playing Oregon and on and on and on…. blah blah blah…

So you have Cam Newton… this time it won’t be enough… can’t wait to hear his speech after the game.. and yes, he’ll have to make one because he HAS to be accessible to the media…. LOL

You could see a let down after the huge come from behind win against BAMA. As far as you wondering that the NCAA should have found something out on Cam Newton already if something was there, the answer to that is HELL NO. It took the NCAA 3 years to hand down the findings against USC and Reggie Bush. I agree with Mark on SC defense being very good and i think after playing Auburn once it will help them a little. I think it will be a very close game that could go either way. I will pick with Mark and say SC-37 Auburn 31.

There is no way SC is close by the third quarter. Everyone who knocks Auburns def forgets that they have db issues but their line is extremely good and anchored by the best defensive lineman in the game.

South Carolina will lose because Auburn knows what is at stake abd they’ll focus. I don’t buy SC defense being that good. They sort of cleaned up in the East but so did MS St and Arkansas. Carolima fans might be drinking from the sane reservoir that gives you Clemson/now Georgia syndrome.

To Seriously,
Wow, this obviously shows you have no clue what you are talking about.

Lattimore: 232 rushes – 1,114 yards – 4.8 avg
Cam Newton: 228 rushes – 1,336 yards – 5.9 avg

Lattimore has 4 less carries, lacks only about 2 games worth of yards as his average a game is over 100, and lacks roughly a yard to equal Cam’s avg. WOW!

How can you even use this as a debate, Lattimore sat half of a game against Southern Miss. sat half a game against Kentucky, missed a game against Vanderbilt, was injured in Arkansas game and missed second half, only had two snaps in the second half of the game against Auburn, and recieved minimal snaps during the second half of Clemson game.

Nearly every remark you have made has been weak and pathetic. If you are mad because Lattimore skipped out on Auburn just say it, but you dont need to constantly batter about a player which you obviously have no background information on. And frankly Lattimore is a more mature athlete than Cam even thought about being. It shows on and off the feild.

OK folks lets get this thing straight one more time.
1. Auburn will win the championship game on Dec. 4th. why?
B/cause they are undefeated.
The SEC is not going to allow a 3 loss team to win the conference championship.
NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!
Didn’t you get the memo a few years ago with LSU winning the National championship with blemishes on their record?
IN college football the SEC is King and if the powers that be can get an undefeated team from our conference into the BCS game it will.
Whatever it takes.
Sorry South Carolina. It’s all about the money. CBS paid unheard of millions to show SEC football this season.
One SEC school brings in more in one season than a lot of conferences bring in all put together. I read where Texas, Michigan and Georgia will bring in an average of 60 million per year each this season, not including bowl money.
Mark. you pay attention to some of the games Auburn has came back from this season.
Down 24 at Alabama, Bama scored first 4 times touching the ball just as UGA did. South Carolina had a big lead. You don’t take the 55th ranked defense in the nation and overcome these type scores. It just don’t happen.
From starting of the 2nd quarter on in the Bama and the UGA games Auburn got everyone of the calls. Alabama had more penalties for not being set on offense than they’ve had in the past 3 seasons in one quarter.
The late hits by Fairley on UGA’s QB would have been called penalties on anyoone else, but, keep the undefeated team rolling.
Hate to say it Mark but college football is getting more predictable every year, just like NFL.. Teams that bring in the big money get to play the longest.
At least we don’t have to listen to Boise St. and their whinning about lack of respect.
The bad thing is Mark, in the end TCU has probablly got one of the better teams in the nation and will NEVER see the Championship Game.
An undefeated TCU will probablly feel about as bad as an undefeated 2004 Auburn team did. sad bet true.

As far as Fairley being better than (Houston) I’d assume thay’s who you were refering to from UGA.
In case you didn’t watch the game saturday night Houston had a pretty good game himself and he also did it with a lot more CLASS!!

An Undefeated Auburn team sells!!
A 3 loss South Carolina team don’t!!
What I mean by that is, an undefeated Auburn team in the BCS Champioship game sells tickets.
TV wants the most exciting senario they can get and getting Cam Newton and the Undefeated Auburn Tigers will bring in 10 times as much as an Oregon vs TCU match-up.
Tv wants something thats going to keep BUTTS IN THE SEATS. And with their money that’s what they’ll get.
Ever watch a pro game on Sunday and about the end of the 3rd quarter things starts getting close?? The lines at the beer vendors gets longer, people buying $6 cokes and $6 popcorn to watch the forth, whereas if were a blow out they go home and don’t buy.

That thing about Auburn coming back form 3 touchdowns against UGA and 24 points against Bama. I’m not buying it, but TV is Mark.

Speaking of not drinking the koolaid. Question for you Fairley haters, what player was suspended for half a game this year for a dirty near season ending play, Nick Fairley of Auburn or Georgia’s own chop blocking machine, Ben Jones?

I ask because while we have plenty who want to point fingers at Auburn as “dirty”, I hate to point out some criticial points about the Auburn vs Georgia game. Who had the first personal foul in the game? We did. What play did it come on? The first. Who was called for chop blocks? We were. Then who nailed our QB in the back? They did. Then who cried “I HOPE ALABAMA BREAKS HIS KNEES IN REVENGE FOR WHAT HE DID TO MURRAY!”? We did. Amazing hypocrisy there. Oh, forgot, who started the fight at the end of the Auburn game? We did.

More importantly, last week Auburn vs Alabama and Georgia vs Georgia Tech, who got in a fight in pre-game? We did.

We are nothing more than a middle aged man from Dunwoody with 3 divorces who blames all his wives when in reality the only common thing among him and his 3 divorces is, him.

That is why Mark Richt has to go. He has lost control of his team. BUt I fear we’d have to settle for Nutt or somebody like that. I guess Gruden wants Miami. Muschamp, bah, loser nowadays although Chizik did come from a 5-19 record.

It’s just a shame we are this bad and this blind.

It’s past 5 minutes.

The “death penalty” is currently a punishment under the NCAA’s “repeat violator” rule. Since the 1970s, if a second major violation occurs at any institution within five years of being on probation in the same sport or another sport, that institution is barred from competing in the sport involved in the second violation for either one or two seasons.

—-
If memory serves me right the only team right now on probation is the University of Alabama and that is until 2012. They vacated wins from 05-07. Not sure who else is.

But Auburn isn’t.

So “Auburn’s gonna get da death penalty! booo ya!!!!” crowd, please, please, please, please don’t let anyone know you pull for Georgia. You’re a disgrace.

Signing off.

Mark Bradley, whatever.

Auburn 42, South Carolina (not USC) 17. Auburn’s defense blitzes early, the line takes Garcia out of the game early with a repeat should injury, backup can’t move the ball much and Lattimore ends the game with under 50 yards and people the next day will say “I think Auburn’s defense has finally matured.”

When in reality it was 12-0 Auburn vs a coach who is not into what he does anymore, a QB that same said coach doesn’t like nor trusts and a RB that went to Columbia only after Little Rock’s Dyer (ESPN’s #1 running back out of high school) committed to Auburn. It’s a recipe for Auburn to be 13-0 and Mark Bradley to totally ignore his prediction and come out with “Auburn loses big to Oregon…”

For the idle curious, there have been five rematches in SECCG history. The team that won the first time has a 4-1 record.
As for Spurrier knowing something about rematches, he lost the first game in 1999 to Alabama 40-39. He lost the rematch by something like 45-6. Doesn’t look like he learned much the first time that year.

Y’all are trying to convince yourselves that a 9-3 team is somehow better than a 12-0 team and is likely to win a rematch game. You can dream that, but if you’re getting money involved better put your money on the 12-0 guys.
Auburn is a lot better now than they were back in September. I think that 8-point margin Auburn won by in September gets stretched to around 21.

Why would talented kids want to lose to Florida EVERY year by 15 points and also lose to Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tenn, Bama and LSU. Go to any other school in the nation and don’t collect garbage for a living, like most 4-5 star recruits that regress at thUGA. Play for a real coach and fans that understand football, not just shop at wal-mart in Bogart, GA and buy groceries at piggly wiggly.

So on the heels of MikeP’s comment, let me see, what if Auburn and South Carolina are better than they were before and there are 0 turnovers and every kicker makes everything they tried. Well, in that case, lets go back to the original 35-27 becomes:

Auburn 27 and South Carolina 14.

Still thinking 42-17 Auburn.

@ jadennis everyone posts stats from the box score with no knowledge of what really happened in the game. The box score doesnt say marcus lattimore only ran the ball 3 times in the second half of the auburn game in which he only had 39 yards rushing on 14 carries he also caught 3 passes in that game for 28 yards, that is 3.6 yards per touch. In the Kentucky game he only had 79 yards rushing in the FIRST HALF and 133 receiving yards. He was hurt the entire second half except for maybe 2 plays.

Thanks Mark, I AGREE COMPLETELY!
While Auburn is an excellent team my Gamecocks will not blink and certainly won’t have 4 turnovers in the 4th qt this time. Clemson without the Lake will not have an answer for the balanced O SOS will throw at them Sat in the Dome. Cam is the best player in college football BUT he can’t score from the sideleines.
War Eagles are giddy about beatin bama with huge comeback, we controlled them the entire game when EVERYONE crowned them unbeatable and #1….hmmmmmm who does that sound like??????
PS The best sideshow will NOT be Spurrier on the sidelines; nope it’ll be that jumping jack cheerleader dude with the towel. RoboCoach will be making his case for a one loss SEC team in the BCS at about 7:14 and then Cam might have to actually face the media too.

You might want to ask why Tech cant get high-profile recruits? Maybe because the Dawgs own your a**! 1-9 1-9 1-9 1-9 I wouldnt want to play for Tech and get bashed every year either.

I don’t know what happened to Mark that first week in 84 when he came to AU but it wasn’t pleasant as he has been an AU hater ever since. I think Pat Dye looked at him mean. Only the most begrudging compliments come from his keyboard and personal prejudices are routinely unsheathed such as this year with the “most obnoxious fans in the SEC” article. The Eric Ramsey saga described as “mainly a love story” was a personal favorite and, of course, all the usual cow college fare. AU can make it easy to be hated with their hypocritical sanctimony…sort of like sports writers. Anyway, can’t say MB doesn’t know how to preach to the choir.

Anyway, I agree that SC has more than a good chance. Probably would have won this September if Spurrier had left in his senior QB. They beat the Bama squad much more handily than Auburn did. But it is reassuring that Bradley has picked SC to win for any AU fan as his prognostication success rate speaks for itself.

Some of you Auburn fans are completely ignorant and very arrogant, not to mention, way over confident. Lattimore has 1114 yards rushing compared to Cam’s 1336 yards rushing but you forget the fact that he missed almost 2 games. He was running wild on Kentucky before he got hurt and missed the second half and I can only imagine what he would have done to Vandy if he would have played that game. Cam has missed how many games this season? I would be willing to bet my paycheck that if Latt didn’t get injured, he would have more yards than Cam right now. But go ahead and be overconfident. You will be brought back down to earth Saturday. It’s pick your poison with this Gamecock team. Are you going to stop Lattimore or Jeffery and the receivers? Which ever one you don’t key on is going to have a field day and it’s entirely possible that both have success against your defense. Don’t forget that Jeffery had 206 yards receiving on you in the first game. I don’t think your coaches have forgotten. They will try to account for that and it will open things up more for Lattimore and they still won’t be able to cover Jeffery. Don’t look for 2 fourth quarter fumbles to bail your team out of a loss this time.

I love UGA2002s ANAL a sis of Auburn and SC.. IF there were no turnovers, IF each kicker made their kicks… hey here’s a good one… IF USC doesn’t show up to the SECCG Auburn will win… but that’s a big IF.. don’t expect it to happen… and whichever idiot said that Auburn will win because they’re undefeated and the SEC will make sure they go to the NCG? Really.. Seems to me thats not the case and never has been.. A 10-3 USC team in the Sugarbowl against Ohio State would be more entertaining than watching Auburn get their asses beat by Oregon…

Thanks for the indorsement. Now I know AU will win this game, I have been worried about The Old Ball Coach and his best team ever at SC, but I think you just gave them the kiss of death. The War Eagle defense comes up with big plays, althought they give up the big play as well. Nothing kills an offense like a Fumble or Interception and the boys on the Plains make it happen because they are physical. Combine that with an offense that keeps the pressure on the defense and they just wear a team down. That’s why they win in the end! Plus they want it more. Go Tigers, win one for the Shug!

I suppose the refs will drop out of the black helicopters to flag South Carolina.

LMAO.

Sorry……. just had to get that off my chest.

South Carolina has its share of talent and could pull off the upset.
What will happen?
Depends on which USC team shows up the guys that played Florida or the guys that played Arkansas.

Big wide receivers have given Auburn fits all year and this game should be no different.
AU has shut down stellar running backs all season and will do so again.

Garcia and company will put up some points but……
SC will have to throw more than they want to and there will be a pick or two.
That (and a few timely sacks) will be the difference in the game.

Let’s see about that first game: Lattimore gets pulled after halftime because Auburn stuffed him. That will change because???? If Auburn can stuff bama’s duo of Ingrham and Richardson they can certainly stuff Lattimore again.

Garcia was pulled because Auburn beat him to a pulp to the point that he fumbled twice in the fourth quarter and he started that game healthy! He’s starting this one with a bad shoulder and a bad hand. Do you think he’ll last until halftime?

Auburn is 12-0. Carolina is 9-3. The reason for that difference is that Auburn’s a better team. Better teams almost always beat inferior teams. Auburn wins, and it won’t be as close as the eight points Auburn won by in September.

There is no limit on the number of comebacks you can make. Auburn has more than proven that they are the most deserving National Championship contender in the country.

This game will be about about ball control and mistakes pure and simple and obviously who can score touchdowns instead of settling for Field Goals. You are not going to win against Auburn settling for Field Goals. 3 points is a win for the Auburn defense plain and simple. Settling for 3 will get you beat. If South Carolina controls the ball scores touchdowns and doesn’t have turnovers they very well could win the game.

I really think keeping the ball out of the hands of Newton is the way to win. They do need to run the ball and then throw deep off play action because Auburns safeties are always slow to help out over the top.

The only reason Roof looks like any kind of a coordinator is that Malzahns offense puts up such big numbers they keep him from looking like an idiot. Granted, Auburn needs to keep recruiting D players. Still thin in the secondary and the talent level isnt what it needs to be.

Still, I think Auburn wins this game. Garcia will find a way to screw it up in the clutch especially after he gets popped in the mouth a couple of times. Spurrier will be throwing the visor by late in the 3rd quarter.
