O.K. dog fans you eked out a victory over a weak Tech team without its best player (Nesbitt). Go ahead as Mark said and as I have admitted UGA has better talent and plays in a tougher conference. But even with all the miscues Tech had they still played a hell of a game. And you know it. With all the great recruits UGA gets they still can’t compete in the SEC. I’m proud of my Yellow Jackets. They ran all over this state tonight with a “high school offense” with guys ranked 1,2, or 3 vs the top 4 & 5’s of Georgia. We got beat. Congratulations Georgia! When we get a “high school defense” watch out. Really though, the guys on defense played their hearts out too. My hat is off to them too. See you in Atlanta next year.

Good win. Hard fought, rivalry game. I’m feeling good about UGA’s future with Aaron Murray, and MARK RICHT! And the defense will come around. The D made big plays when they had to…and that’s a damn good offense at Tech.

But, what in the world were we thinking with scoring at the end there?? Terrible neglect from Richt. He better have a damn good explanation for that one…

Oh here we go again. Poor ole Georgia Tech just can’t get a fair shake in this life. They didn’t get beat. They were just “outmanned.” Is there a column in the record books for “outmanned” Bradley? I’m not sure there is. There is a W column and an L column. Johnson and his wonderful coaching ended up in the L column. That’s all that should matter. No excuses necessary Bradley.

We must have been watching a different game. I saw Johnson and his wonderful offense with the ball late in a close big game with a chance to win. I was immediately reminded of our game with them last year and their game with Iowa. And just like in those games Johnson the mad genius and his brilliant offense did JACK DIDDLY SQUAT. The guy is the most overrated coach in football. Lose and he’s hailed as a hero? Simply unbelievable.

Well, I guess that the Georgia defense made a couple of stops when it had to. But only a couple of stops at the end of the game when Tech had to pass. If Tech had a little more time at the end they could have run the ball and scored. When will UGA ever get a defense? The Georgia offense looks good but AJ Green will bolt for the NFL next year and someone will have to step up. Durham is gone too.

Very, very proud of my Yellow Jackets. Disagree with this article whole-heartedly. Anyone who watched this game should. Tech was not “out-skilled”. How can a team who rushes for 400+ yards lack skill? Tech lost because we missed an extra-point and had to alter our approach. No excuses, we lost, congrats to UGA for playing a fine offensive game and exploiting our stupid 10 yard cushions. But to say Tech lost due to a lack of skill is a joke, which is par for Bradley. Been around long enough not to concede a thing to Tech, but CMR does not seem to have a handle and Georgia has a kit of talent bit little if any character. Dooley got humiliated a few times and if CMR can turn it around then fine but I’d say this is it. Johnson seems incredibly smart and Richt has had a boneheaded play or two in his day. This is the kind of game Tech usually wins va Dogs so I’m thinking CMR has one last year to bring back some decent football.

I’m tired of all this crap. UGA beat Tech again. Mark Richt is 9-1 against the insects. Tech had a better record going into this game than Georgia and once again lost (like last year). Tech ran almost 100 plays, georgia ran 40 plays and Dawgs still won. Everyone wants to complain about Grantham, yet Al Groh’s defensive gave up 35 points in 40 plays. No Georgia is not a very good team this year, but they beat the so called Genius Paul Johnson once again. Georgia faces an option team once a year, beats them 2 years in a row and people complain. Tech’s got some serious issues. Johnson’s teams aren’t getting better. The gimmick is over. If he doesn’t modify his offense, he’ll lose even more years to come. Bottom line, Tech LOST. Even if they make the extra point, Georgia is knocking at the door with less than 3 minutes left. Georgia was easily in Walsh’s range to win it. The extra point is probably irrelevant. When Tech had to pass they looked like a single A High School Football team. Get real folks!

Your piece is a shining example of purely arbitrary expectations.

Paul Johnson loses a close game — in which in his team makes some bonehead mistakes — and he’s a genius. If Mark Richt had lost because his kicker couldn’t hit a PAT, then you would (further) call his job in question, pointing out that a missed PAT is obviously a sign of poor discipline and sloppy coaching. And one of the big Tech mistakes you cited was simply a good defensive stand by UGA (one of the few we had all night, btw).

Yes, yes, we all like CPJ’s candid way with the media, which be refreshing for you. Even as a Dawg fan, I enjoy his bluntness, a perishing art-form that used to be essential to winning college football games. (Check any of the Bear’s shows after a loss.)

But how long are you going to keep the bar so low? CPJ coaches at Georgia Tech, not Georgia State. If Boise State can get athletes, why can’t Tech… in a talent-rich South? Tech’s program will never really permanently step up to the next level until Tech’s expectations step up to the next level. The big question for Tech is has CPJ chosen/inflicted a philosophy/strategy that will protect Tech from being miserable, but never really enable it to be more than just an occasionally over-achieving underdog?

Now — with all of that said — let us hope that UGA will bounce back next year, as it has done a couple of times under CMR. If not, expectations will not be nearly as forgiving as they are at Tech. It’s not enough that our coach is smart and principled, which CMR is. He needs to win 10 games a year, or our Jacobin wing will run him off for flavor-of-the-month.

Don’t get me wrong, Mark, I think you called Tech and UGA really well this year. But this end-of-the-semester-man-crush-confession was not your best observation… nor a favor to the Tech program.

To HT’s earlier comment – why in the world would you score with just over a minute left and give GT a chance to tie the game and force OT when you can take a knee and run out the game after a first down. Hey Bradley, does the truth hurt so much that you continue to block me? Tech should have won this game. The three pointer at the first of the game that Johnson screwed up, and the fumble inside the ten yard line also in the first quarter would have won the game without these mistakes. I hope I don’t have to be subjected to your biased reporting in the future.

What are we going to do with Todd Grantham? His scheme gave up 11 more points than Martinez’s last year, and Tech didn’t have Thomas or Nesbitt! Fire him? Then what? Get adjusted to another DC? Let him stay on? Then what? Give up tons of points over and over again? I think UGA needs a totally fresh start in the coaching department, but it’s not going to happen.

Well, ugag beat GT again and they are happy and proud…good for them. It has made their year now for what, the last 4 years. It is nice to see that all of their 4 and 5 “star” recruits can beat the Jackets and MAKE their year. Afterall they need something to hang their year and their whole self worth on. Congratulations dogs on your fine 6 & 6 year and beating my Jackets to MAKE your year. It is nice to know that we are that important for you, because without a victory over us you got nothing to hang your hat and your self worth on. Afterall, as much as it pains me, you guys are just as irrelevant in your conference as we are in ours this year…but hey you beat GT, now your year is complete, and you are happy. I wanted to win badly, but glad we could make your year guys. See you in Atlanta next year…maybe you guys will actually be 7 and 4 or so when we meet again. UGA : “a good academic school” Yes, but that does not apply to the Football, and Basketball teams, If you are a football player at UGA and are getting an education you are not a very good football player, you are there to keep the team GPA numbers above the Mendoza line.

Why would any recruit with a brain want to go to Athens except to have to win the last game of the regular season to become bowl eligible? I hope UGA does not become another Auburn and start buying players like a woman shopping on Black FRIDAY.

I realize it is very difficult for the large majority of thUGA fans to put this game in the proper perspective. GT was a 15 point dog and not expected to compete. However, if not for a missed extra point and the GT defense not giving up the last TD on purpose, the outcome may have been different.

Your supposed superior athelets and recruiting classes may help you you rationalize the marginal victory but the bottom line remains that you were outcoached on all fronts. Say what you will about CPJ, but he coaches up the players in his program, not down.

I raise these issues so that you may use them as talking points when you report for the midnight shift at the poultry plant or convenience store.

It must be a miserable existence to watch the game in your trailer with the knowledge that you have to dress in your car to punch the time clock.

bo, yes it is PJ’s 3rd year and we dont need to make excuses. We put up 500+ yards against you, held the ball for 38 mins and ran almost twice as many plays as you did with our backup quarterback in his 3rd career start. St. Mark is in his 10th year and you and all of your Ugag brethren are beating your chest over beating a 6-5 team from the supposedly weak ACC. The difference in this game was Ugag scored 21 points off our 1st 3 turnovers and we scored 0 on your 3 turnovers.

As a coach I would not want to be in Nick Sabans shoes year in and year out at Alabama, a fan base that wants to win, every team in conference setting up their “bye” week the week before you play them, and getting everyones best game each week. Those factors alone will ruin a season in a hurry.

No excuses here, just a sloppy game as usual for Tech this season. Still, I love how some of the biased UGA fans are ridiculing their offense. I tell you, that Dawg defense did an excellent job of stalling this “high school” offense to a miserable 500+ yards. And according to one brilliant fan, it was all done with “2 plays”. Wow, that’s really something to be proud of. It’s comments like these that just make your team’s fans look like morons.

On another note, I’m a CPJ fan and I’m not about to jump ship now. Never have, never will, but that being said, I do wish the man would occasionally think about kicking a field goal on 4th down. Instead of accepting a free 3 points to start the game, he goes for it, Tech gets stuffed and momentum swings back to the Dawgs. It’s hard to win a game when you continually spot your opponent 14 points. And the QB draws at the end of the game were ridiculous. Why? UGA’s D was spent and showed no signs of stopping Allen. Why get cute and roll Washington out on consecutive plays? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!

Anyway, I too congratulate the “classy” Dawg fans for a hard fought win. Murray’s gonna be a beast in the future.

Offensively Georgia has talent. Defensively is another story. Georgia lost 3 D-lineman to the NFL. They have not replaced them. Except for Dent their linebackers are mediocre at best. The secondary is inexperienced and makes mistakes Three DBs graduated as well from last years team. Georgia should be 8-4. If Green had played all year that would have materialized.

I know one thing, if I was a stud running back I would sign with Tech in a moment, because you know you will touch the ball 20 times a game at a minimum…..and in todays game with all the passing offenses, spread offenses a back just does not touch the ball as often as they used to. I am a UGA fan and even I realize GT runs the ball very very well and plays in a decent conference.

Focus on replays of E-Bay Green’s performance tonight. For example, early in the game when he had at least 5 yards to gain before taking a hit, but he chose to run out of bounds (and short of a first down). He’s clearly saving his body for the NFL. So much for Georgia.

This is the thing, a team reflects it Head Coach, and if a coach is an offensive coach they will recruit the best players and put them on offense, if the coach is a defensive guy he will recruit athletes and emphasize the defense. CPJ is and offensive guy, CMR is an offensive guy and it shows. CMR’s first 5 years he had great upfront talent left by a coach who knew defense wins game, and CMR used those players :Seymour, Stroud, etc to their fullest ability. CPJ needs to find a couple of those speedy tall recievers who can actually catch the ball, but when you are primarily a running team it is hard to get those guys to sign. Look at CMR’s recruits who are verbals, it is lacking any outstanding outstanding studs on defense once again….

You must be delusional Miami Beach, if you had a Son that was a tall, speedy WR, would you risk his NFL Future (i.e. $$$ Dollars) by playing in CPJ gimmicky offense?

The honest answer whether you admit it or not is heck no.

CPJ will never get the studs at WR OR at RB, mainly because RBs in CPJ’s “system” don’t pass block, the play with thier hand on the ground like FBs and don’t “pick their own holes”, things that NFL Scouts want to see before they will invest 1st or 2nd round money in them.

#8 from last yr. was 6-3 230lbs. and ran a 4.38 forty, he was drafted because he was a physical freak, not because of CPJ’s Offense, if CPJ were Recruiting when Dwyer & Bay-Bay came out of HS, they would NOT have even chosen GT.

This is something that GT have to live with as long as CPJ is our HC.

I am so sick of reading these articles and seeing Tech fans jump all over them. WE LOST….AGAIN. And we’ll lose again next year!!!! Bradley is right, Tech does not have the talent to play with schools like Georgia and Tech never will unless Tech decides to make some tough decisions in order to expand the recruiting base. FACT.

What offense Tech runs doesn’t matter. How close the game was doesn’t matter. How well Techy played doesn’t matter. This game was the same as last year, the same as 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. Different story….SAME ENDING!!!!

Move the game to week 1, drop the game altogether, but better still do something Tech should and that is decide to make the academic changes the other schools have or drop to a non-BCS conference. To the GT Administration, I HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR RICE!!!

At least Mark Richt is humble enough to admit when he makes a mistake. CPJ did well to get his team ready, but always going for it on 4th Down and his play calling with 2:54 left was not good…….humility is a good quality for a coach to have and CPJ does not have it…..you can have your moral victory of CPJ “outcoaching” Richt. It will be interesting to see how CPJ does next season without any Gailey players…I think this year’s group of seniors is the last of Gailey’s guys…

As a Dawgs fan i gotta give teck kudos on their running offense however i must agree with only throwing the ball 4 times a game is not realistic what happens when u get down by 21 u gotta throw it…it appeared as though he panicked beuase GT had plenty of time to run the ball down the field in the last 2 minutes versus 4 straight passes when they had not passed all game….the Quarterback looked like he was scared to even throw the ball this has gotta be changed for u in the future because no quality receivers are gonnna sign with Tech who wants to be just a blocker especially if u have aspirations to go PRO….Good battle amongst too mediocre teams at least it was entertaining which is always a plus….

Granted, Johnson’s offense is very effective against teams, like Georgia, that have more talent than discipline and intelligence. On the other hand, take away a few of the LBs and a DB or 2, and exactly how much talent does Georgia really have on defense? Not that much.

Sorry, Mark, but no coach who receives all the praise you can heap on Johnson can put an offense on the field that is absolutely incapable of throwing the football when required. Washington did a very nice job running the triple option, but there are backup QBs on high school teams who throw better than he does.

Are you telling us that a “genius” like Johnson had no option at the end of the game other than to put on obviously overmatched QB like Washington in the game in the final minute, needing to pass to move the ball down the field.

Does Tech ever work on what used to be called the 2-minute drill? Sure didn’t look like it. I guess genius coaches don’t need to be worried about such trivialities.

There’s a reason almost nobody in college runs the offense Tech does. Sure, it produces a lot of yards and a decent amount of points, but there are times when you gotta throw it, and even a genius like Johnson can’t will his offense to do that.

Georgia made Tech’s defense look as inept as it really is. Since Johnson apparently only coaches the offense, guess that’s on Groh, not the genius head coach.

Assuming Georgia can find some receivers who can run routes and catch the ball, along with a few defenders who can actually comprehend what the coaches tell them, the ‘Dogs will be fine in the next few years.

Tech, on the other, will be hoping for 6-6 records and bids to bowls on the same level as the one they’re going to in the immediate future.

My lasting memory will be GA doing everything in their power to let Tech hang around…from the poor kickoff coverage starting the game to King fumbling deep in Tech territory to Murray fumbling the snap on 4th and 1. You can’t on one hand praise Tech for keeping the game close despite turnovers without realizing GA was busy doing much of the same. As lucky as we were to win, Tech was equally lucky to be close. If we didn’t shoot ourselves over and over again, that game wouldn’t have been that close. At the end of the day, the better team won because they made the plays when they had too…the other team did not. It’s not coaching or anything else…one team executed when it mattered. Auburn wins because they execute when it matters. GA did it when they needed it. Boise lost because they didn’t…Tech, the same.

You seriously believe GT was going to be able to drive down the field in 1:29 with their run-oriented offense, Mark? Give me a break. Johnson might have done the only thing possible in allowing UGA to score, but it was hardly a matter of outcoaching. GT is a TOP team,not a quick strike offense. And, inevitably, they did what everyone expected with them trying to score with the forward pass – they threw an INT.

Couldn’t a genious figure out how to throw the ball just a little? Johnson’s “genius” move to allow UGA to score would have only been brilliant if there was a chance that his offense could actually execute a 2 minute passing drill. The reason GT is said to have a high school offense is not because they can’t move the ball. All of Johnson’s teams at GA Southern, Navy, GT, etc have put up great total yardage performances, the reason it is a high school offense is because there is virutally no passing game when you absolutely have to pass it.

Mark: I have been a Tech fan more years than I care to remember. Got an A once on a term paper I did in high school about the Ga. Tech vs Tenn. Vols back in the 50’s when the teams were like one and two I think. Tech lost on Grant Field that day.
