Tech versus Georgia: This year it’s the duel of the dual duds

Georgia's Ben Jones after the upset of Tech last season. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Call this the season of dual lead balloons. Georgia was ranked No. 23 in the preseason Associated Press poll, dropped from the Top 25 on Sept. 12 and hasn’t received a vote since. Georgia Tech was ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll, dropped from the Top 25 on Sept. 12 and received its last votes on Sept. 19.

Add their records together and you get 11-11, which is the essence of mediocrity. Add their conference records together and you get 7-9. Add their road records together and you get 3-7 (or 3-8 if you count Georgia losing in Jacksonville, which was technically Florida’s home game this year).

Total the records of the teams they’ve beaten and you get 44-76, and that’s skewed by the 9-2 of South Carolina State, which Tech defeated on Sept. 4 and which will face Georgia Southern in Round 1 of the FCS playoffs today. Together, Tech and Georgia own victories over two FBS bowl-eligible opponents, and both North Carolina and Kentucky are 6-5. (And are, not to put too fine a point on it, basketball schools.)

And yet … all duds are not created equal. Our friends in Las Vegas favor Georgia, which has a losing record, by 13 points over Tech, which has a winning record, if just. Strange as it sounds, that line seems about right: To see Georgia play is to wonder how it lost six games; to view Tech is to wonder how it won that many.

Tech is 61st among 120 FBS teams in points scored, 59th in points yielded. It’s first in rushing offense, next-to-last in passing offense. Georgia has scored more points and yielded fewer and ranks 18th nationally in turnover margin and 36th in penalties — the Jackets are 54th and 87th in those key categories — but it has lost five times to Tech’s six. Part of this can be explained by noting that the SEC is stronger than the ACC. Part, but not all.

Georgia’s closest victory of the season was 44-31 over Kentucky. Tech has won four games by a narrower margin. Georgia clearly has better players — and Tech has been without its best man, quarterback Joshua Nesbitt, since the second quarter of the Virginia Tech game Nov. 4 — but the Bulldogs have developed the distressing habit of losing every losable game. You can say, “That’s just bad luck,” but is it luck when it happens all the time?

Two weeks ago Georgia led the nation’s No. 2 team by two touchdowns on the road. Auburn rallied to tie 51 seconds before halftime, whereupon the Bulldogs ran a draw play and let the clock expire, secure in the knowledge they’d get the ball to start the second half. Whoops. Auburn perpetrated a slick onside kick and took the lead without Georgia touching the ball. From 21-7 ahead, Georgia would lose 48-31 on a day when it didn’t turn the ball over. That wasn’t bad luck. That was bad coaching.

This will be Mark Richt’s 10th game against Tech; he has lost only once, wasting a 28-12 halftime lead in the wink of an eye two years ago. That was the game that made Paul Johnson the toast of Georgia Tech, the new coach having done in Year 1 what Chan Gailey couldn’t manage in six tries — he beat Georgia. But Richt upset the Jackets last season when Tech was ranked No. 7 and bound for the ACC championship game, and now there are questions about Johnson, too.

That ACC title was achieved largely due to the production of five Gailey signees, four of whom left early for the NFL. The fifth is Nesbitt, who’s a senior. Before the season Johnson hailed this as the deepest of his three Tech teams, but what the Jackets added in numbers they’ve lost in high-end quality. And early recruiting returns for 2011 aren’t glowing. (Scout.com has Tech 38th; Rivals.com doesn’t list the Jackets in its top 50.)

As we approach our latest installment of Clean Old-Fashioned Hate, so much is murk. It’s unclear if Richt, who has presided over three consecutive seasons of diminishing results, can again maximize Georgia’s resources. It’s unclear if Johnson, who has fallen from a conference championship to 6-5, can again find enough players to win big. Likewise unclear is when, or even if, this proud football state will again matter nationally.

This has all the makings of a 3 touchdown or more win by the dawgs. However, these rivalry games never seem to follow the script. Given that the dawgs need this one to go to a bowl, it should be motivation enough for them to get a victory on Saturday. We will find out soon enough if Paul Johnson and his high school offense can pull off another upset in Athens. For more Georgia Tech Football articles go to http://isportsweb.com.

Think about the football team THUGA puts on the field. 96% of the players are academically provisionally accepted, with Adams and his cronies knowing full well that they will use up all their coaching and tutors and elligibility and then have their asses kicked out on the street and soon be pushing grocery carts around Atlanta looking for a warm place to sleep. What a pitiful way to run the State’s flagship university. I am going to this week’s game where the Ga THUGS will undoubtedly whip my North Avenue Scholar Athletes once again. Brawn and brainless win out over brains any day of the week when you are talking mayhem on the field. But once again I am hoping that Tech stomps their sorry asses.

It’s the yawn bowl because nobody cares. Both football teams are very bad, which is coaching of course. Both Richt and Johnson might have winning pasts but both are fielding miserable teams this year. You’ll have to look to the west to watch a meaningful and exciting rivalry that means something nationally.

Hey, roughrider, how about this for the mindset of UGA. From Neil Boortz in an AJC column:

Well, I don’t want to embarrass the subject of our little story by using her real name. We’ll call her Prunella. Our heroine is a senior at the University of Georgia and a columnist for the Red and Black, the independent UGA student newspaper.

At the end of her most recent column, “Think before you shop at Walmart,” you will see this tag: “[Prunella] is a senior from Lawrenceville majoring in magazines and women’s studies.”

With such a double major I’m sure the recruiters are knocking down her door.

“Think before you shop at Walmart?” As a matter of fact I do! My thought process is usually something like, “I think I’ll go shopping at Walmart.”

Prunella disapproves. She says that when she walks into a Walmart she sees “concentrated evil.” Not just evil, mind you — concentrated evil!

Our magazine major’s problems with Walmart seem to stem from the fact that many local retailers find it difficult to compete when Walmart moves into town.

That’s the nature of the free market.

Prunella doesn’t explain how she would remedy the situation. Consumers exercising their free choices apparently don’t sit well with this young lady. She is also upset with Walmart because it is a “large unfeeling corporation with (a) major impact on what we buy, where it’s produced and how much we pay.” Please. Whoever it is out there forcing Prunella to shop at Walmart, knock it off.

Somehow, in her column about the “concentrated evil” that is Walmart, Prunella didn’t address the fact that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. donates just shy of $300 million a year to charities around the country. The company also reportedly pledged $2 billion for a five-year campaign to fight hunger. The evil must be concentrated somewhere other than in charitable giving.

Perhaps, then, this is Prunella’s real problem with Walmart. In her column she expresses displeasure that profit-driven corporations “are firing American workers to cut production costs. They then charge American consumers more money than what it took to produce their products.”

Let’s address both of her points. First: How dare any evil “profit-driven” corporation fire workers to cut production costs! Cutting production costs is nothing less than a blatant attempt to improve the bottom line. Don’t these dastardly businessmen realize that they’re in business to hire people, not to make money? After all, potential investors look to the number of unnecessary employees as a surer sign of corporate health than profit and loss figures. Any good woman’s studies major surely knows that!

Second: Let’s erect some gallows at Sanford Stadium so, at the next Georgia home game, we can hang the next evil businessmen we catch selling a product for more than it cost to produce. Prunella must have sneaked into the back of a UGA business class to learn that her next pair of shoes should be sold for exactly what it cost to make them and place them on the shelves of her favorite store (not Walmart) — and not one penny more.

Seriously, folks. Is this what we get after tens of thousands of dollars are spent to produce a college graduate these days? Did her magazine professor see this column before she submitted it to the Red and Black? Didn’t someone warn her that such public displays of economic brilliance can end up being embarrassing?

And the most troubling question of all: Is she registered to vote?

This sort of reporting is good for papers. People asked similar questions about the state of football in Alabama about five years ago…but they seem all good today.

The Bulldogs are a better team but expect more of the same from this rivalry (a tough football game that will be closely contested and watched by only a few).

As for Paul Johnson – c’mon! He’s been here three years and has won a conference championship! It is the south and it is Atlanta but it’s just an amateur sport played by young, young men. Perspective y’all!

A “better degree at UGA, espcially in the science field.” Wrong and wrong. Check the national rankings.

You claim UGA has “much more research money.” Wrong again. Not even close. Check the endowments and research dollars by Tech; you’ll be embarrassed to compare those at UGA.

UGA isn’t even close to Tech in the national academic rankings. You did zero research before typing. Obviously you’re just another dumb Dawg that fits the Dawg profile.

Mark, suppose the schedules were flipped. Does Tech win 5 or 6? The differences in conference quality can’t be overstated. There’s a reason FSU ran roughshod through the ACC for so long: There just aren’t any quality programs in the ACC. Quality, to me, is having BCS Champion potential. I realize that definition has been watered down by the strength of schedules being removed from the equation. Is Georgia in bad shape record wise? Absolutely. A team has to have depth and stout defense to win in the SEC. Georgia is still working on that. Tech has never had any of the two under Turkey Neck.

Aside from several factual errors (as per usual) in your overly dramatic article, you must be the only one in the country who believes “now there questions about Paul Johnson (as a coach)”. Not a single Jackets fan questions Johnson or the direction of this program. Most rational fans recognize that this is a transitional year. We lost 4 game changing talents to the NFL. That’s not an excuse, but it’s part of the equation. Like UGA, we switched to the 3-4 scheme on defense. Unlike UGA, our D-line is tiny and we do not have the athletes that UGA has. That has, and always will be, a reality for Tech. But that will never be an excuse for losing, but when transitioning from a 4-3 to a 3-4, athletes make life a bit easier. With that said, Bradley, I think you are a horrible color writer. UGA should win this game, but they should have won in 2008 as well, and Tech should have won last year. Vegas lines are meaningless in this game. I will not be surprised if my Jackets lose 50-7 tomorrow, and I won’t be surprised when we win 38-35 either. (For the record, I think we lose somewhere in the middle, 41-32 or the likes). Go Jackets. Win or lose: To Hell With Georgia.

Dawglasville – I agree with your rankings; my post was rebuttal to a different poster. Emory is ranked higher than Tech and deservedly so in some areas. Your point in comparing apples and oranges is also correct in many cases.

But ponder if you will a degree that all three universities provide as a point in comparison, an MBA. How do the three schools rank?

Georgia Tech #26
Emory (Goizueta): #27
UGA (Terry): #59

That provides a better comparison of apples to apples for the three schools. Oh, and by the way, the majority of Tech’s football and basketball players are in the College of Management (not Engineering) but that College is nationally ranked with some of the best management/business programs in the country. In fact, better than Emory’s MBA and that’s not too shabby. UGA’s Terry College of Business? Not so much.

JB,
I think you will find that he said omit engineering. Then you will find that UGA does have better sciences, bio and chem anyways. As for every other part of the school UGA wins out. Business, it is no longer the management school at tech, and liberal arts. The only one Tech is better at is IT management, which is why I go to tech for that. Also UGA does get more funding, because it has double the students and department.

No one is arguing that tech doesn’t destroy UGA at anything engineering related, but it is the bigger picture they are talking about.

Also, having gone to every Tech home game this season there is no way the Jackets can pull this one off. It is sad but true. The experience Washington is getting will be great for next year though.

Ok sorry I was looking at old fact, I apologies for that one. Again we aren’t bringing Engineering in to this or we would then have to bring in everything else that UGA does that Tech doesn’t, I don’t count UGA’s “engineering” course as a real program yet.

Though as we all love ranks Tech was ranked #7 best public school in the nation and UGA was ranked #18. As much as we Jackets hate to admit it UGA is becoming a very good school.

Tech fans better hope PJ figures out how to win this game, if he can’t beat Georgia with a freshman QB who has a 5-6 record as a starter, there’s really no hope he’ll ever beat Georgia again.

Tech does have the #1 rushing offense in the nation.

Yellow Fuzz – really?

FormerDawg newJacket – the two schools are vastly different on the national academic stage. Those are facts. Yes, UGA’s students have higher SAT’s than previous generations of Dawgs, but that’s only recently and it still does not affect the curriculum or the reputation of the faculty. As a result, UGA’s rankings are not changing very much because the faculty is not changing that much. It is the faculty that provides the majority of a school’s academic ranking and reputation, not the students that are there for the education! Bringing brighter students into an average or above average program only provides an average or above average education.

Tech fan for nearly 50 years and obviously seen more wins by UGA than I would
like. Hope the players have a heckuva lot more faith that they can whip the Dawgs than I do.

I just can’t see it though, primarily because of UGA’s superior offensive and defensive lines— compared to Tech. Tech has virtually no pass rush. The Duke QB had time to walk up to The Varsity, order a Naked Dog Walking, walk back to Grant Field and still have an eternity to find an open receiver. I can see Aaron Murray picking my Jackets apart and A.J. Greene catching bombs right and left.
And we know what happened last season with King and Ealey against a much better Tech defense than we have this year. Sorry fellow Tech fans, but I have seen nothing in the previous 11 games that show me otherwise when it comes to the Dawgs lighting up the scoreboard.

Offensively, Washington is still unsure of himself on many plays,as he should be after starting only two games. Plus, the Tech O-Line has not shown that it can get the job done run blocking consistently (emphasis on ‘consistently’). And they don’t have a clue on how to pass block. Washington was running for his life most of the time against Duke—against DUKE, the worst defensive team in the
ACC.

Throw in the fact that the Dawgs have a plethora of major incentives: winning season, bowl eligibility, beat their arch rival, seniors go out a winner on their home field, and end a disappointing/under-achieving regular season on a positive note.

Add it all up, and I think the 15-point line is legitimate, if not conservative. Again, it is what it is.

And before anyone says it, “Well, if the players felt like you they wouldn’t even get on the bus.” Like I said, I hope the Jackets have a lot more faith in themselves than I have in them. But when looking at their drive and conviction this season—save the Virginia Tech game—those are commodities that I have not seen on a consistent basis from this team.

A final note: please don’t bring out the ol’ “You can throw out the records when these two old rivals play.” Unfortunately, they may sound good, but as one AJC scribe pointed out a few years ago when he thoroughly researched the series the favored team usually wins, the 2008 season withstanding.

For the Jackets to have any shot at all, they will have to give an even better effort than they did in Blacksburg. Hopefully they will. In any case, I’ll be cheering for them Saturday night and again next year and the year after that.

Regarding football, I don’t see how UGA loses this game unless they give it away. Both are miserable teams that are their own worst enemies. I think it comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes. If both teams play well I think UGA wins with superior talent. If both teams play poorly it favors Tech I believe. If one team plays superior to the other then I think it could become a blowout for the superior team. My money would be on the Dawgs but my heart is always with the Yellow Jackets. US News and World Report ranks Tech seventh and Georgia 18th in the country for Best public Colleges. So, yes, Tech is ranked higher. But both are top 20 so neither is exactly a reform school.

Tech/Georgia observations (all academic):

1. Georgia has a higher APR and graduates more of its football players than Tech. Look it up.
2. Georgia has nearly as high a freshman class SAT and a higher freshman class GPA than Tech despite having a freshman class that is twice as large. Translation: in sheer numbers, Georgia has more academically outstanding students.
3. Georgia is more selective in admission than Tech, admitting 57% of this year’s applicants as opposed to 61% for Tech. Look it up.
4. Georgia has had yet another Rhodes scholar this year, giving it more Rhodes scholars this decade (4) than Tech has had ever in its history.
5. NOT INCLUDING FOOTBALL, Georgia has won 36 NCAA championships, in sports as diverse as baseball, mens’ golf, womens’ golf, gymnastics, equestrian, mens’ tennis, womens’ tennis, and swimming and diving. Tech? One, in womens’ tennis. And the Dawgs have won 133 SEC titles in 15 sports. Tech’s total conference haul in both the SEC and the ACC combined isn’t even close.

6. I don’t need to talk about the football record. Georgia’s superiority there is unquestioned via a dominating head-to-head record (including winning 75% of the matchups since Dooley took over at U.Ga. in 1964). That superiority will be re-affirmed on the field tomorrow.

The University of Georgia has the better football program, a better overall athletic program, is comparable academically, and has better-looking women. We also have the best mascot, a victory bell we get to ring after a win, a competent basketball coach and a lower crime rate. And our students have fewer zits.

So there.

I wish i could say we will win but nothing this team has done or shown in 2010…proves they can beat the most talented team we will see all year in athens and keep in mind that uga is playing JUST TO MAKE A BOWL GAME! No way we come out with a win saturday. I just hope we keep it close and not the blowout i think it very well will become. I don’t think UGA is good at all but i know we are below terrible. Why you say? Well…

Stupid penalties game after game= losses
Pathetic defense that couldn’t stop a bowl of jelly= losses
0 leadership when nobody plays up to their expectations= losses
Going for it at midfield all the time surely adds up to….losses
A special teams that could be the nations worst= losses
A WR core that couldn’t catch a cold=losses
Quarterbacks who couldn’t hit the side of a barn=losses
When you are 1 dimensional with 0 passing threat, that can= losses When you couldn’t block anyone even if a lifetime supply of hamburgers were on the line, that=losses

I can’t point to 1 phase of the game this team is good in? NONE! We fumble in our territory, we fumble when we are in the redzone! We can’t block or tackle. We can’t pressure any QB we face, we can’t really stop anybody unless they stop themselves! The defense is worse than last season and that is just ridiculous. Keep in mind we had 15 guys back from an ACC title team whom has showed 0 ability or even cared 2 cents to turn their season around. We have a QB who said he doesn’t believe in players only meeting?? You lost to kansas! Almost to wake forest! Whipped by an average clemson team. Smoked by NCST and UM at HOME!!! Sorry, but this team really doesn’t deserve a bowl game since nobody seems to care are play with any pride, why should the fans?? This team is a complete joke. UGA should win by 3 td’s but they have had issues as well. This game is like the blind leading the blind. The only difference is UGA is at home so they should find their way around better than us. 41-27 dawgs as much as that hurts.

Should i say THWG or tell our guys to play with pride for once this season?

I used to like the “Dawgs” back when they had Hines Ward, and company, but then when they beat Georgia Southern in 2000, 2004, 2008 and the fans were so classless about it, I mean we actually gave them a run for their money. They were talking mad trash like they were the best, then they turned around and got crushed by teams on their level, so that’s when/why I started rooting for Georgia Tech.

Hey JoeFan…what does that mean, you a fan of ‘Joes?’…regardless you don’t have an effin clue about what you’re saying. First of all, there ain’t no ‘good-ol-boys’ runnin’ the school, it’s Michael Adams and if he was ever ‘good’ most of us must have missed it. But there’s no academic problems to ‘clean up’. Thanks largely to the Hope Scholarship program the standards at UGA have done nothing but go up and up over all these years…average SATs, etc., are at an all-time high and continuing to rise…and seems to me I just heard that one of Georgia’s students has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship – your school got any of those? Athletics – not to worry, I’m not cause we’ll win the state and beat whoever your favorite school may be – Joe University no doubt – the next time out. And as for your ‘tax dollars’, they probably wouldn’t pay for one-day of raking leaves on the North Campus so you have my permission to withhold them going forward…and finally, if you think that UVA ain’t a party school then you just don’t know how to have fun.

Lot of comments regarding UGA and Techs season but what about Alabama.
At the start of season many predicted this team had much more talent that last years team and appeared sure bet to win national championship. Now a three loss team and a very disappointing season, and certainly underachievers, must be poor coaching from Saban and co.
Talent there but wins are not.

Maybe you can replace Loren on the sidelines next year. The old Constitution and Journal had great journalist. What happened? We are now stuck with you and the other partisan reporting. It’s a real shame Atlanta does not have a sports writer worthy of this city. Did Paul Johnson hurt your feelings, or something? OK, MB, you say there are questions about PJ.

(Don’t pull a Mariotti-like move, wherein you cast aspersions and throw stones and never back it up, his MO to never venture into a locker room, because he just might get his backside kicked. That’s not your play, since you have demonstrated your willingness to go into the lion’s den. And what self-respecting woman would ever go out with that buffoon? But I digress…)
The SEC is 3-0 against the ACC so far this year. One of those losses was Auburn, No. 2 in the nation, needing Clemson, which is middle of the pack in its own division in the ACC, to miss a field goal in overtime at Jordan Hare Stadium. Another was LSU needing to rally to beat a North Carolina team — also in the second division of its own ACC league — that was minus more than half a dozen starters.
The other was Bama steamrolling Duke, which played out as everyone expected.
The ACC may not be setting the world on fire. But is the SEC? Does Auburn really want a piece of Oregon in a BCS title game? Or Boise?

I agree with a lot of this blog, but this line is just dumb:

To see Georgia play is to wonder how it lost six games; to view Tech is to wonder how it won that many.

It’s pretty glaringly obvious why GT won 6 games (weak competition) and why UGA has lost 6 games (they aren’t very good). No need to pretend either one of these teams are better then they have played this season. They will be two of the worst teams to make bowl games.

It’s real simple. If Tech can hold Ga. to under 40 points they’ll win. Everybody else has this year. With Murray coming up Ga. needs to build up a defense. MR is an offensive coach period. I don’t think he even understands how good defense works. “GO DAWGS”

I need to make a public apology here. The other day I compared georgia and their fans to trash, and this was a terrible insult to garbage everywhere. A landfill is too good for the vermin that is the dogs. Tech, all you have to do is go straight at the dogs and kick them in the teeth, if you do they will back down and you will win the game. They are good at talk but when challenged they can not back it up. The same goes in the parking lot also, they are nothing but loud mouthed cowards. The rest of the country is depending on you Tech, no one wants to see the ignorant dogs in a bowl, so do your best and take the foolish mutts down. Good luck, you have a lot of extra fans this week

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

no bowl for the dawgies this year

The Jackets will end the season at 8-5,

the Dawgs at 5-7.

Dawg Fans beware: Mark Wrecked and his trusty Bobo will always find a way to lose… Our only hope is that Paul Johnson and company are even dumber than the UGA coaches…
Quite a difference in the state next to ours if you watched the Iron Bowl yesterday. All those Alabama and Auburn players from Georgia chose to play for real coaches instead of clowns.
Today’s game should be called the Flubber Bowl.
This is the state of Georgia football: neither UGA or GT have a single vote in the Top 25 today.
Hope and change ain’t cutting it. We need new coaches for both team.
Alabama should be watching the best players in Georgia playing at Georgia colleges.
Then we will win national championships again.
For now, we are a joke.

Saint Jan, aka The Tech Turdlink-

So I see you’re still posting the same tired ‘ole post (under several different pseudonyms) for the last several weeks. I guess creative thinking isn’t a trait commonly found in Tech bloggers. I mean, you do realize that most grade school students can cut and paste, don’t you?

I would’ve thought a mighty Techie grad gloating about his school’s academic prowess could muster something better than a stale 2 month old post highlighting an event that occurred almost 30 years ago. Guess not, huh? I mean really dude, Jan Kemp, Waffle House? What a chump!

PS Enjoy the beat down today… loser!

War Damn Eagle-
It’s gonna really suck when Cam “Show Me Da Money” Newton is found to be ineligible by the NCAA and your whole season ends in total, abject, utter embarrassment… won’t it? Can’t wait for SC to bust your chops!

Regardless of who wins, neither team will a decent bowl. I pray that no one gets hurt and that grown adults act civil. It’s a game, not life and death. Have fun and may the best team win!

Bradley, you need to change the caption for your photo. UGA’s victory over the trade school last year was only a upset to the idiot media types who stupidly thought Tech was any good in the first place. The same idiot media that’s been telling us all year long how Boise St was the best team in the country and deserved the NC is the same idiot media that props up weak, barely above HS level teams like Tech every year.

Today, UGA 42 Trade School 6

I don’t get this crap. They are talking on cgd about auburn losing next week and being back in the champ game? Huh? That has been the excuse forever that a team who doesn’t win their conf has NO chance at playing for a nat champ.
So this time they twist the rules? BS. If auburn loses, they are out. Then it’s tcu or wisc. I really hope sc wins next week to add chaos to this cause i would love to see the bcs rats scatter and try to either vote wisc who’s way down the chain or keep aub up. You don’t win your conf, you don’t play in the champ game. It’s always been that way. You can’t change it now for $$$. This is without a doubt the reason why a playoff is needed in this sport that’s run by scum.

If Tech wears their white uniforms, they lose. If they wear the tan pants uniforms they wore for Homecoming and Duke, they win. The alums cannot identify with the white uniforms that have the proven loser “black is out” mostly solid side stripes and black knee socks, and can identify with more traditional-looking tan pants. Even the tan pants uniforms will probably have the black knee socks, which is “black is out” nothing but bust. Black will be the color of the night sky, black will be on Georgia’s helmets, and any more black from my alma mater, Tech, will be an attempt to establish “black is in” for Tech in the future. Tech has tried to dabble in the forbidden color this year, and has only won the easier games in it, against SC State and Wake. Tech does not know how to wear black. If the Tech alums turn off the game because of all the black Tech has chosen to wear, only the student body and the families of the players will watch the game, and Tech will lose. Also Tech will lose Alum financial support maybe, definitely losing support to the scholarship fund with the Athletic Association. I would not send one penny to a “black is in” football scholarship program. I heard in the Tech Alum Assn newspaper “Tech Topics” that “black is out”, which was said by a head of the Alum Assn. This rule has not been honored by CPJ this year. He just honors the NCAA rule changes. That’s the ONLY REASON why Tech has lost. It’s CPJ’s fault. He always has said he has no idea, no magic wand, poor execution. Never his fault. The Athletic Association at Tech is comprised of the Prez of Tech, various profs and the head coaches. Can’t the Prez and profs get the word to him that “black is out”? Calvin Johnson wore gold pants, white knee socks and white shoes when he caught all his passes. Those were appropriate colors for Tech uniforms. Black can be used as pin stripes always at Tech, but no solid, wide black stripes are appropriate.

Dud? Dud? Win and we are probably headed to Detroit for a 12/26 matchup with Northern Illinois in the Little Caesar’s Bowl. I don’t call that a dud. Plus we were in Shreavport last year. I think I need a contract extension!

I think Ga wins but what does it say if they do? It says what they have said all year long. we can beat below average teams . Then comes all of the “wait till next year ” chatter. Wait till next year? When Ga will have less talent than they fielded this season. Look for Ga to win but only to be a prelude to next year that will equal this one.

Think about the football team THUGA puts on the field. 96% of the players are academically provisionally accepted, with Adams, Richt, and their cronies knowing full well that they will use up all their coaching and tutors and elligibility and then have their asses kicked out on the street and soon be pushing grocery carts around Atlanta looking for a warm place to sleep. What a pitiful way to run the State’s flagship university.

Candela Ross

Fred – This one is for you pal. I attended the ass-whipping last year at your high school styled stadium, better known as Bobby Dodd Stadium. You want to talk about THUGS, your crew as well as your fans should have been locked up. After the game, I witnessed no less that 5 different fights instigated by techies. I dare to say that half of them should have been sent back to the call centers in their home country India. So before you start slinging mud, take a look in your own back yard. This is a football game, not a slide rule relay race. Enjoy the game.

The best high school football recruits are playing in college because they’re not allowed to go straight to the pros. Thus the best high school football recruits want to play in the college program that offers them the best chance to go pro and thus are most like a Pro team. Conclusion WHY would the best high school football recruits want to play in a option offense? Didn’t the option used to be called the Wishbone? Heck when the Wishbone was popular in the 60’s, the pros still didn’t run it! Get Used to Losing

I said it before and I will say in again. Auburn is 2 wins away from the SEC having it’s 6th nation champion on Mark Richt’s watch. Georgia is falling deeper into the pitts of Hell Under Mark Richt and he should have been fired 3 years ago but there are still a lot of kool-aid drinking fans that think he is the right man for the job when he has put Georgia football on the same level as Mississippi, Kentucky & Vanderbilt.
