Sure to delight no one! Our annual look at Tech and UGA fans

Two years later, Tech's hedge fun still rankles. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Two years after the fact, Tech's hedge fun still rankles. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

I ask: What would Thanksgiving be without our annual Field Guide to Tech and Georgia fans? You answer: “A heck of a lot better, you jerk!” Being the stickler for tradition that I am, I choose to ignore you and offer, in the spirit of the holiday, something guaranteed to make both sides spit cranberry sauce across the room. Enjoy!

• Georgia fans refer to Bobby Dodd Stadium as the Joke by Coke; Tech fans refer to the gesture made in Jacksonville by defensive coordinator Todd Grantham as the Choke by the Dope.

• Tech fans aren’t looking forward to a bowl trip to Shreveport; having heard about Shreveport every day for the past year, Georgia fans look forward to the Independence Bowl being renamed the Karma Bowl.

• Georgia fans are still miffed that Tech players appropriated some of Sanford Stadium’s hallowed hedges after winning two years ago; Tech fans are miffed their team has beaten Georgia once in the time it takes a redwood tree to grow to the sky.

• Tech fans found it amusing that A.J. Green sold his jersey for $1,000; Georgia fans find it amusing that Tech can’t sell out its stadium.

• Georgia fans are mortified that the Bulldogs considered Auburn quarterback Cam Newton a prospect to play tight end; Tech fans wouldn’t mind seeing their team sign a tight end just for the heck of it.

• Tech fans are tired of being reminded how lousy the ACC is; Georgia fans never tire of reminding Tech fans how lousy the ACC is.

• Georgia fans giggled when Tech lost at Kansas; Tech fans giggled harder when Georgia lost at Colorado; neither side has giggled much since.

• Tech fans are starting to wonder about coach Paul Johnson’s offensive approach; Georgia fans have long found Johnson’s approach — “Punch somebody in the face” — offensive.

• Georgia fans doubt that any Tech player really takes calculus; Tech fans doubt that any Georgia player has a valid driver’s license.

• Tech fans refer to Derrick Morgan, who left early for the NFL, as the one who got away; Georgia fans refer to Da’Rick Rogers, who signed elsewhere, as the one who went to Knoxville and got arrested.

• Georgia fans hate it that Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina program has passed them by; Tech fans would love it if their team completed a forward pass.

• Tech fans don’t know what to make of Al Groh, the new defensive coordinator; Georgia fans have a pretty good idea what to make of Mike Bobo, the not-new offensive coordinator.

• Georgia fans never knew broadcaster Chuck Dowdle was such a rabid Bulldog backer; Tech fans knew it all along.

• Tech fans are starting to wonder if Johnson could only win big with Chan Gailey’s players; Georgia fans are starting to wonder if Mark Richt could only win big with Jim Donnan’s players; both sides are starting to wonder, period.

• The Georgia fan’s credo: “We run this state”; the Tech fan’s retort: “Your players can run but they can’t drive.”

• Tech fans get really upset when an opposing coach complains about chop blocks; Georgia fans got really upset because Auburn lineman Nick Fairley played unfairly.

• Georgia fans scoff at Tech’s low recruiting rankings; Tech fans scoff at Georgia’s high recruiting rankings.

• The Tech fan’s favorite unintentionally funny video: “Party in the UGA”; the Georgia fan’s favorite unintentionally funny video: Joshua Nesbitt’s Heisman campaign.

• Georgia fans think Richt is a great pitchman for Ford trucks; Tech fans think Damon Evans would be a great pitchman for Victoria’s Secret.

It’s a total shame Tech does not hurt like UGA hurts after a loss to each.Of course if I had to buy, wear, and own a FLEA collar just so I could say I did. WELLL. It’s really P$%%y when your world revolves around beating a second rate team in your own D$mn state year in and year out.Number the teets on the beech BOYS!

Fourteen players arrested this year. That’s impressive. I think the Fulmer Cup is safely esconced in Athens.

No wonder people call UGA The Cesspool of the South.

Tech is in a pathetic bowl and UGA has to beat Tech to get into a pathetic bowl. If anyone on either side feels good right now they aren’t fans of either program, but a bunch of dummies.

uga fans are nasty drunks. very difficult to clean up grant field when they visit. The players match the fans. Jailbirds one and all. Retards. Trailer trash etc. When fairly intellegent looking (looking I said),men start barking like dogs, its something to get sick over. 5-6 what a record for top 10 recruits every year. 93,000 fans go to see this???

GayTech fans are just nasty, drunk or not. They tell their wives they’re going to the Tech game, but go straight (no pun intended) past the stadium to midtown for the real fun. That’s why there’s a million Tech bloggers, but usually 10 at the game.

Wait, so are tech nerds blogging from the game, or from their dorm rooms? If they’re jerking it to anime porn, I’m guessing their rooms, but now with these new-fangled internet telephones, the could be prawn-hunting at that empty stadium, and none would be the wiser.

No matter how the rednecks from Athens try to impress and act sophiosticated, they will always be rednecks. Once a bus load of DawgRedneck fans came to the Tech game in Atl on a greyhound bus. The bus broke down alongside the stadium. and out of humanitarium reasons a bunch of Tech students took them some cornbread and soup.

Speaking of the illeterate former Ga Redneck players and so called student atheletes, whatever happened to the pathetic Fred Gibson. Watching him try to express a thought on TV was so painful it was embarrassing that he could have possibly ever met entrance requirements at even THUGA.

Damn Mark…badinage, really? seventeen bloggers just reached for a dusty dictionary. Anyway, this year both teams do have a badimage. One thing I have learned over the years, most of the time the record means absolutely nothing in this game, especially if Tech is favored. We are getting too many points in this one. I am looking for a WWE cage match Saturday as each team tries to salvage their season by doing mental and physical harm to the other.

Knowing my family is safe.
When the pet dogs come back from their morning jaunt.

Good barbeque and Brunswick Stew.
A new biography of Franklin Roosevelt or Dwight Eisenhower.
That first glimpse of the sun on a cold morning.
A Diet Pepsi to wake me up.
My parents’ good health.
The smell of freshly cut grass.
When the power comes back on after a storm.
A compliment from my boss.
Christmas carols.
A good report from the doctor’s office.
Andy Rooney.
Working great quotes into my daily conversations.
The memories with my grandparents.
That people seem to be generally forgiving of my foibles.

Georgia fans are seize the slightest indication of a good trend as a sure sign that they are going all the way to #1. Completely ridiculous. Tech fans are so dispassionate that they will never light the fire that will return the program to it’s former glory. Georgia gets players who are twice as good as the Tech recruits and does less with them than can be imagined. Tech fans, coaches and players sit and watch a half effort week after week and think “oh, well, so it goes.” No one should outrecruit UGA, they have a great university, great facilities, great fanbase, money, the best looking women, they are in the best conference, great tradition, etc. etc. etc. So why are they so mediocre? They should be in the top ten all year, every year. Tech has imbeciles in charge of the program, hiring coaches who utterly stink and sticking with them, even giving them long term contracts while performing poorly. Gailey is a great example. And what about the Tech defense? It is the worst in the nation. Oh sure, we had a great one under Bobby Ross, but that was 20 years ago!

One thing I hate about both: They have plenty of homer fans who mindlessly unload on the other guy. How stupid, how adolescent.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

About Half of uga’s fan base across the state are trailer trash red necks. We’re talking about a million people. They go to games. Another 35% are students, alumni well to do normal nice people.
Then 10% are jerkoffs that didn’t go to uga who think they know so much about college football and are morons. They are usually the ones posting on these boards. They have loser jobs and have no money saved.

Tech has a non american fan base that is likely around 20% of the fan base, Another 20% are indeed “nerds” who could care less about football. The remaining 60% half are true big football fans and the other are casual fans. Uga has a ratio of about 5 fans in this state to 1 for Gt. Maybe 6 to 1. So that is why you sell out your stadium morons. And many cases this year, ya didn’t. It’s called supply and demand. You tend to have more demand than supply. Obviouslay I am talking to the redneck who may have found a computer with an Internet connection and that other 10% who posts here constantly saying mature things like 33-10 Hahaha or 34 28 hahaha

Happy Thanksgiving even to the rednecks and dirtbags. I think the game will be closer than people think with perhaps some bad weather coming in. Could make for a decent close game. Dogs will probably win by 7-10.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?

As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.

when do the readers get to write about how your gray hair does nothing for you, how you are the joke of ky, outhouses, moon shine and everyone married to your cousins, how meanspirited you are, demeaning you are, as if the teams you pull for are all world champions. you spent all last year trying to get cpj to leave and coach elsewhere, now you want him around to bad mouth him and the gt fans. heather d same way, even though josh nesbitt became the all time acc leading rusher in the acc, he was not even deserving of a helmet sticker by that dimwit on the espn blog. rest assured if all the espn bloggers got together today, they would place that acc blogger at the “kids table” because she has the authority of a gnat..and bradley isn’t much better…you did your best to best to get your braves and now hawks the favor, how did that work out for ya? who is the joke? you are
