Yes, this post is about Tech. But here's a look at the 2009 Independence Bowl. (AP photo)
(*In this case, “BCS” stands for “bowl of cruddy stature.”)
Georgia Tech is 5-5. It needs to beat Duke, which is terrible, to become bowl-eligible. If the Jackets lose here today, they’ll need to beat Georgia, which is the best sub-.500 team in the country, in Athens next week to secure a postseason invitation. And where might Tech go if it notches Victory No. 6?
ESPN.com has Tech ticketed for the Military Bowl, which will be staged in Washington D.C. on Dec. 29. Scout.com, SI.com and CBSsports.com all have the Jackets headed to the one place guaranteed to slash Tech fans’ arsenal of ever-ready UGA insults by 67 percent — the Advocare V100 Independence Bowl, which is staged you-know-where.
For 51 weeks Georgia fans have gigged Tech with these four words: “We run this state.” For 51 weeks Tech backers have responded with one word: “Shreveport.” And — wouldn’t you know it? — the Jackets could well be bound for that charming city to play a bowl game on Dec. 27. Yikes.
That said, the only thing worse than going to Shreveport is not being eligible to go to Shreveport. Tech could and should take care of that today. (Did I mention that Duke is terrible?) Even without its best player, the Jackets are 10-point favorites. Should his Jackets somehow mess up and get beat, I fully expect Paul Johnson to punch someone, even if it’s only himself, in the face.
And with that, the floor is again open for questions, comments and testimonials from the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. And it must be stated that at least one outsider attaches great value to an Independence Bowl bid. I remind you that A.J. Green got $1,000 for his jersey from the 2009 installment of that epic event.

Bradley,
Can you explain why u report GA Tech sports with such sarcasim? Any ajc writer that covers uga wears rose-colored glasses. Yet, we get your little jabs in most everything that you write.
Your *BCS comment was unnecessary and inaccurate. If Tech beats uga next week, we will be 7-5 and likely go to some respectable bowl.

Mike, You must be a virgin to college football and more importantly to GT vs Ga. Tech has no chance, have you actually watched this miserable season? As thye famous Paul Johnson states ‘It is what it is.” He also states’The Georgia game does not define our season!” I am die hard Tech fan, my dogs name is Jacket, if you knew my bank you could figure out all of my passwords, which have something to do with the name Yellow Jackets.
Tech will be crushed by Georgia and Johnson will blame everyone but himself. You have no idea what is ahead for Tech with this goof ball coach. Next yeart 2-10, only if we are lucky.

Reality, Mark tells the truth, you just cannot handle it. Go look at who we beat this year. We are very bad college football team and Georgia will crush us. You are in denial!

I don’t agree that Ga is the better team. They have not beat anybody this year, so I think Tech has a good chance to beat Ga next week.

Here’s the game column, if you’re inclined. If not, thanks again for the company today.

I’m a GT fan, but I think Ugag wins by 14-21. Our defense is just no there – the only way we come close is if we play as we did against Va. Tech. Both teams have played poor football this year – it’ll come down to who makes the fewest mistakes. We both have an issue of beating ourselves…

Go Tech, Season ticket holder for 20 years. I pull for Tech and anyone that plays Georgia. The truth hurts and you denie the truth. Remeber me when Johnson is fired. I want Tech to win every game, when the head coachh states “The Georgia game does not define our season!” I then know he has no clue:
I’m a ramblinwreck from Georgia Tech and a hell’uv an engineer,
I’m a hell’uv , hell’uv , hell’uv an engineer.
And like the Jolley good fellows I like my whiskey clear!
I’m a ramblinwreck from Georgia Tech and a hell’uv an engineer.
Oh, if I had a daughter sir, I’d dress her in white and gold,
And put her on the campus to cheer for the brave and bold
Butif I had a son, I ‘d tell you what he would do:
He would yell to hell with Georgia, like his daddy used to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Go tech, don’t question my alliance for Georgia Tech I just tell the truth, if you can’t handle it then you need to grow up!!!
