OK, about Georgia Tech: Can it pull the ol’ Hokie-doke?

Meanwhile, back at the Flats …

The reigning ACC champ is a two-touchdown underdog to a team that lost to James Madison, which tells us much about Georgia Tech and its season. The Jackets are 5-3 but haven’t impressed anybody — indeed, they lost to a Kansas team that was outscored by 147 points in October — and we’ve all kind of assumed their title defense has resulted in an abdication.

Only it hasn’t. If Georgia Tech beats favored-by-two-touchdowns Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Thursday night, the Jackets will have a realistic chance at again winning the ACC Coastal Division.

Do I see Tech (Ga.) beating Tech (Va.)? Frankly, no. But I’ve been wrong before. (See Georgia-Florida.) And I would never dismiss the chances of a team that has Joshua Nesbitt. And Paul Johnson just might think of something.

I broach the topic because I’m headed to Tech in a bit for PJ’s briefing. (Ordinarily on Tuesday, it has been moved to Monday so PJ can give out post-Halloween candy to brighten the spirits of morose UGA fans. Kidding about that last part.) And I’m kind of wondering what chance you Tech (Ga.) folks think your team has at Tech (Va.). Good? Bad? Slim? None?

I’d say better than slim but not quite good. But again, that’s just me. And sometimes I’m a Negative Nelly. Feel free to discuss, and I’ll be back in a bit. (Sorry. Didn’t mean to make that sound like a threat.)

I agree, I don’t like our chances, but with these Jackets you just never know which team will show up. GO JACKETS!

Don’t think Tech has a great chance except maybe they figured something out during the bye week. Seems like they lay an egg when they play any “good” teams this year.

Mark, consider it an honor, like the SI cover. Upsetting VT on a thursday night in Blacksburg sounds like a tall order. But CPJ is always good for one unexpected win on the road. Or maybe he’s holding out for Athens….

After 8 games you pretty much know whether a team “has it” or not, and unlike in 2009 this just isn’t a good GT team. This is a big revenge game for VT and they don’t usually lose in Lane on the Thursday night ESPN game. GT plays hard but loses by more than a TD.

And Tech will also win. But which Tech?

Tech beats Tech

November 1st, 2010

We will have to score on almost every possession to have a chance to win since VT is going to rip our D. But I don’t see that happening given the problems with the O-line and catching a footbal that hits a receiver between the numbers. Nesbitt and Allen are fine, but there is no support beyond them.

We beat Duke and maybe Miami to get 7 and a trip to Nashville or Washington D.C. UGA is an if and VA Tech is probably an L.

o-line has shown they cant block anyone.

VT being a favorite? Not surprised. Should be a three td favorite.

Willams one td
Evans one td
tyrod taylor one td

The point is simple. The defense will not slow down their offense and our o-line will continue to show they cant block anyone to give nesbitt enough time to throw or pitch and so on.

Would love to be surprised to see ga tech win, but not sure it will happen

Under CPJ we don’t lose 2 in a row. I say we win by 3 with a defensive stop on 4th down to keep VT out of field goal range.

If a receiver or a back out of the backfield starts catching some short & intermediate passes, G-Tech can win. If we can’t pass effectively enough to keep Va Tech from putting 8-9 in the box and crashing the O-line, we are going to see a lot of 3 & outs and we just might lose by 30.

Ga Tech just needs to focus on pulling a miracle game on Thursday. If they can get it done, just like FLA had to do this past weekend against UGA, they have a good shot at winning the division. I say this because they face Miami and DUke at home, while VT will have to face the hurricanes in Miami nd still play UNC and a Virginia team that showed they can pull an upset. Jackets, don’t say the season is done until it’s done. Defending last year’s title is still possible, improbable yes, but still possible.

I got a bad feelin’ that VPISU is gonna make it really ugly really quick. And JMU, you’re an idiot. With that logic, every one-loss national champion in the past – just give the trophy to the team that beat them earlier that year. Dumb.

Mark “Maytag” Bradley….thanks for sharing the fact that GT is the underdog, and that a win will be considered a long shot. You see, we have not watched a game this year, and really don’t know much about whats going on with any team other than U(sic)GA(ie 5 reasons & A++) . Is it possible for you to refrain from writing about Tech and go climb back on the Dawg Train? You should own up to all that brown nosing you have done all year. Go back to the U(sic)GA page or better yet, do the home appliance reviews. You are a giant Ga Homer and have yet to write a word about Tech this year that was not a put down. Can you just leave us be, or can we vote you off the Island on Tuesday?

Chan Gailey’s teams often won big games:

Va. Tech in Blacksburg.
Auburn in Atlanta, and at Auburn.
Miami in Miami when highly ranked.
N C State in Raleigh when highly ranked.

If Paul Johnson is as great as he is touted,
maybe his team can win another improbable big game too.

There is only ONE “TECH”. It is Georgia Tech!! You can call that team from the commonwealth Virginia Tech. Or you can call them VPI. They have changed their name more than The Artist formally know as Prince. But you may never call them “TECH”!!

VT has a really young defense and Foster, amazing as he is, just didn’t have them ready to go when the season started. They’ve gotten their act together now and VT had a bye this past weekend so they’ve had pleanty of time to practice and game plan. It might not be 2 TDs, but the Hokies pull it off.

VPI is returning 3 starters from a defense that we rushed for over 300 yds on last year and beat. Bay Bay only had 1 reception in that game (Nesbitt’s only completion) so don’t tell me how we are going to miss Bay Bay. Bud Foster is a good coach, but obviously he feels out-manned by CPJ if he had to go to Iowa for some coaching tips on how to slows CPJ’s offense down.

GT wins in a close one. Miami with their uncertainty at QB becomes more of a winnable game.

Ordinarily, I’d say GT needs a +2 turnover differential to win this game … assuming VPI&SU plays “well”.

However, early forecasts call for showers. And perhaps a little wind.

If THAT happens, the odds even up completely. And either team could win on a slower track.
