Memo to Mark Richt: Bag those black helmets forever, please. (AJC photo by Bob Andres)
Your attention, please. I’m about to recant an earlier prediction. I now believe Georgia will beat Florida.
(Let me also debit my increasingly shrinking account of credibility by noting this: I thought the Gators would win the BCS title. What the heck was I thinking?)
I know, I know. The Gators had a week off and Urban Meyer is too clever not to think of something. But the Urbanator has had a while now to get this offense going, and he hasn’t yet. And here’s what I know: Georgia will go to Jacksonville:
• With the better quarterback.
• With the better offense.
• With the better running game.
• Having won three in a row, as opposed to losing three in a row, which is what Florida has done.
I’m aware that Georgia’s three victories have come against three mediocrities, whereas the Gators have lost to Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State — all of which are ensconced in the Top 25. I really don’t care. I like the way Georgia is playing. I don’t think anybody likes the way Florida is playing.
Here I should also note: I’ve been wrong about this game before. (Two years ago, when the Urbanator’s team won 49-10 and he called his little timeouts.) I could well be wrong again. But I’m calling it Georgia 24, Florida 17.
And now I’m asking: What say you?

MB – Love the optimism, but I’ll believe it when I see it…Everything you say is true – but there is still the x-factor or mental block against this team. My request: 1) no uniform tricks 2) no dancing in the end zone 3) beat the snot out of the Gators

We’ll see… I really hope they win and I think they are definitely capable of winning. They have to play smart football though, if they commit more than 1 turnover or get a bunch of personal fouls I think they’ll lose. Otherwise, I’ll take them 27-21. Play with confidence and without penalties and turnovers and they should take UF in a close one. Go Dawgs!!

Mark,
How is it that when UGA loses to Mississippi St at Starkville, it’s a loss to a mediocre team, but when UF loses to that same team at home, it’s a loss to a top 25 team?
Is Mississippi State a mediocre Top 25 team at home? And I seem to recall that Arkansas and South Carolina were both Top 25 teams. And the loss to mediocre Colorado? The night of their 20th anniversary celebration of their NC, a night of an emotional high.
To quote the great Bugs Bunny, “What a maroon!”

As a homer, I have to go with my Gators. At first I was tempted to attribute your change of heart to the effects of the full moon, rendering the normally sane Mark Bradley into the monster Bark Madly. However, your reasons are too sound. Georgia has consistently improved while UF has yet to find an identity, much less the end zone. Since this is a rivalry, I expect the best from both teams. Exactly what the best is I can’t say at this time.

I want to feel the same way Mark. However, two issues lead me to think otherwise: 1. Defense still gave up over 400 yards in total offense last night, mostly passing. 2. UF had the week off. Don’t care what anyone says, it’s a huge advantage to have fresh legs.
I think it’s more mental than anything else right now. I mean ask tech, when you lose to someone as often to a particular team it plays with a football teams head….. right tech!
Rainey’s back(and I thought CMR was soft with some of his players) and Brantley is not that bad of a QB. Especially if we don’t put pressure on him. Look at UT’s Crompton last year. He was all world because he had ZERO preasure on him.
Just my thoughts. I’d love to see the Dawgs win big. Nothing is better when I can ride around Tampa with my big “G” flag for all these gator fans down here. They are thick as flies down here.

I don’t know! I think whatever ails the Gator offense may be cured by playing against the Georgia secondary this week. I hope you’re right Mark but I just can’t get a good read on this team. How come when UGA loses to top 25 teams South Carolina, Arkansas, and Miss. St. (away) they are bad losses, but the Gators lose to the same Miss. St. team (at home) and it’s okay?
The only “bad” loss in my opinion was to Colorado on the night they celebrated their 20th anniversary of the NC. Emotions were high; Caleb fumbled. Bad combination.

Two things that concern me: 1. our defense gave up well over 400 yards to UK. Mostly passing 2. UF had a bye week. I don’t care what anyone says that is huge before a game. Fresh legs will make any team better.
Of course can this team get over the mental thing that has been hurting them? No confidence in being able to play with the gators because of the record of the gators the past 20 years. I mean ask tech the same thing about how they feel with UGA whipping up on them 8 out of 9 years. Same thing.
Living down here in Tampa where the gator fans are thick as flies would be sweet to not have to listen to them for another year. If we can keep as pass rush on Brantley and make him into UT’s Crompton last year (I still have nightmares of that game) then I say we have a great chance.

atltiger15, what exactly has UGA done besides beating 4 really bad teams? The combined conference record of the three sec teams (TN, VANDY, KY) WE have beaten is 2 and 1.
No doubt the Gators are down this year and while the Dawgs certainly have a chance to win, they wont. While they have been on a bit of a roll as of late they are still a poorly motivated and poorly coached team. With a week to prepare Urban will expose the Dawgs as the chumps they really are.

Bobo had better called some passes to our great tightends as they are not existant on our passing plays neither are our running backs. We must develop this type of passing attack to go with long passes and wideout screens to Greene. Our opponents linebackers cannot keep up with our running backs and tight ends on most plays but where are they this season in the passing attack.
Florida and Auburn will whip us solidly if Bobo and Richt do not open up the playbook. They will stack the middle and stop the runs on ist and 2nd downs, then we pass on 3rd downs and punt on 4th downs. Pass on first down and second down, run on third down some time, but mix up the playcalling so our opponents can be confused.Use the backs, tight ends and the wide receivers, mix it up and win.

The most encouraging thing I saw last night was when our defense stripped a fumble after a big gain by Kentucky. That was mean. Kentucky deserved the big gain, but our defense took it from them like a school bully. This is significant because in the past our defense would have just laid down and died. I like the ferocious mentality. Still saw too many missed tackles for my liking though.
Florida is garbage. Its now or never. This is our championship game this year. It will make or break the season.

The Dawgs are looking better but we do not match up well with Florida. We beat Kentucky because of turn overs and because we were able to run against their weak DL.I highly doubt we will be able to run against the Gator D like Kentucky’s which means we will most likely have to pass to win.
What concerns me most is our putrid pass defense because Brantley is an efficient passer and with 2 weeks to prepare and the Gators felon play-maker back on the team, I don’t think the UF team we see this Saturday will look much like the inept UF team we’ve seen earlier this season.

I think after UGA took a big lead over the Cats we kept it simple in order to not self destruct. The difference in our Wins is the lack of mistakes such as penalties and turnovers. I think we need to go downfield a bit more with play action. If Caleb King comes back strong I could see us putting up ground numbers against UF that mirror the GT game last year. Where were the TEs Saturday. It appeared we were using them more up until the KY game. Also we need a few more screens. Not a big stretch at all. Both teams are mediocre, but Georgia is a lot hotter right now. Georgia’s confidence should be high, while Florida’s should be low.
If Richt can’t beat Florida this year, then he’s not the right man for the job.
FLA DAWG, if Florida wins by 3 touchdowns as you predict, then Richt should resign during his postgame press conference. Florida’s just not that good this year. Georgia has proven that it is better than it’s 1-4 start. Time to man up and beat UF, the excuses have run out.

Alex, you are the moron. They did not play fantasy football so yardage does not count. Usually teams that turn the ball over, etc and get behind throw and throw and pile up yardage. UGA did not pile up yards because short fields, kick off returns dictated they did not have to. UGA soundly beat Kentucky, but so did Florida so that does not mean anything. Florida will be ready but they are no where close to last years team which should make for a close game.

Demps should be close to 100%. Brantley…ditto. Moody will be back. Moses Jenkins will be back (starting CB at the beginning of the year and at 6′3, matches up well with your best WR. Rainey will be back (and he is not a convicted criminal…just a kid who made a bad mistake for the first time in his life and paid dearly for it). Matt Patchan will be back for the first time this year to add experienced depth to the OT position. James Wilson will be back for the first time since game 2 to add experienced depth at the OG postion. Debose…who is really coming on….will be back from the injury that cost him most of the MSU game. Jaye Howard…one of the best DTs in the country…is back after missing the MSU and most of the LSU game. Trey Burton is going to have an impact at the QB position…like he did late in the MSU game. Ronald Powell is starting to play like an impact player now that he is playing the strong OLB position. And…yes….Meyer has been “tweking” the offense this week (more direct hand offs from both the shotgun and I formations…and no zone reads which he is ineffective at doing…and zone pitches…which he is completely ineffective at doing. And more focus on the running game.
This is going to be a very close game between two teams that are a lot better than their records indicate. Georgia is a very good team when healthy and focused. So is Florida. Both are mostly healthy….and both are very focused for this game. I expect it to be a great game that can go either way….just like I thought it would at the beginning of the year.
I JUST HOPE ADDAZIO AVOIDS BRAIN FARTS AS HE HAS ALL YEAR IN CRITICAL SITUATIONS….like running the zone pitch with Brantley in two critical 3rd and short situations when everyone in Gator Nation…except Addazio…knows Brantley can run the zone pitch because no team thinks Brantely is going to keep the ball and run with it…which he never does and really can’t. But I am sure Addazio will mess something up to cost the Gators as he has all year…..I am just “dreaming” that he won’t this time. And…please….don’t let the game come down to the best punter in the country having to make a game deciding FG…PLEASE.

Dawgs are good enuf to win this game but must play their A game on both sides of the ball. Cuff should sit this out. Meyer saw what KY did to him. FL’s rested and had 2 weeks to prepare. Bobo, you better not throw the screens to the wide outs cause FL will be sitting on it. You did it one too many times vs KY and they almost picked one. Run the ball w/ both King and Ealey. If you run the little guy (#30) please go wide he’s not a up the middle type of back!! And for goodness sake on D, please put some pressure on the FL QB w/ 5 man rush and some blitzes. You allow Brantley to sit back there and FL will win especially using the soft zone like GA did vs KY. GA’s DB’s are not that good but w/pressure maybe Brantley will hurry his passes and give our secondary some relief. Granthem eaRN YOUR DARN SALARY!!
FL and Mayer have lost 3 in a row. They sure as heck don’t want to make it 4 in a row. Unless the Dawgs change up w/some new looks on O and hard nose D its same ole same ole and another year losing to those hated lizards.

Georgia > Florida…..
Yeah…Florida is terrible…they lost to LSU in the last seconds because of a missed, easy FG. They lost to MSU for the same reason.
Yeah…Georgia is rolling…with monumental victories over powerhouses Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and a Kentucky team missing their best runner…a Kentucky team Florida completely dominated when they had everyone healthy…and a Tennessee team Florida easily defeated in Knoxville.
Yeah….Florida is terrible after losing two very close games to two top 25 teams.
Yeah….Georgia is once again in the hunt for the national title after blazing through Dores, the Vols, and the Cats…
Yep….easy blow out victory for the Dawgs….once again…over the pitiful Gators.
See you in Jacksonville! Don’t forget to pack your red panties.

And about the by week crap…stop crying…either last year or the year before…Florida did not have a week off and still still kicked the Dawgs butt. But I am sure….if the Gators beat Georgia again…the Dawgs will have lost for the 18th out of 21 tries because of the refs, because the Gators had a week off, and because the Gators had 50% of the fans in the Jacksonville stadium.
But…if Georgia wins….it will be because Mark Richt is the greatest coach in the country….Bobo is a genius…..and….as always….Georgia has a lot better talent than Florida…and proved it this year!

But I am being realistic…vs. a lot of Georgia fans on here who think their team is all that now with big vics over the Dores, the Vols, and the beat up (after the SC game) Wildcats.
The Georgia/Florida game is a toss up….but I sure hope the Georgia players are thinking the Gators are “terrible” like their fans are….it will make the Gators challenging task of beating the Dawgs this year a lot easier.

Nothing like a week off. I still don’t think Georgia has proved anything. I think they beat two teams because of the week before. One being Tenn. who has lost to LSU and the other being Kentucky because they had beaten South Carolina. Florida did beat Kentucky about the same margin as Georgia but beat them down there. Close game but I see that cockiness coming back into Georgia which always helps their opponents of late When they get cocky they can play some pretty stupid football. Florida by 3.

Whatever Florida has done this season, throw it out the window because it doesn’t mean a thing for this game. They had an extra week to prepare, and trust me, Meyer is going to have his offense ready. I don’t think they will score a ton of point, but I bet they will score around 20-30 points. The key is turnover margin, the team that wins the turnover battle will win this game.

Look. Florida is NOT garbage! They got beat handily by Bama–no shame in that. They lost to a very good and lucky LSU team in the last minute–no shame in that. But to lose in that way, like Georgia losing to Arkansas, is DEFLATING. This was to the benefit of a decent Miss State team in both cases. Teams often come out flat after losing a heartbreaker…Georgia lost to LSU in the last minute last year, then came out flat against UT. This year UT lost a heartbreaker to LSU, then came out flat against us. UF is a pretty good team with a sold defense and a lot of weapons on offense. They will come out and play well against us.

Tampa, your smack is amongst the weakest I’ve ever read. UGA ain’t all that but your team absolutely sucks this year for some inexplicable reason. Spin it however you want, anyone who has actually watched Florida this year knows this to be true. Of course, Georgia’s already proven it can lose to poor teams. It’ll be no upset if the Gators win this one. Georgia’s the better team for once but this one’s a complete toss-up.

Sounds to me like you are talking out of both sides of your “feet!” What is it….Gators are bad and Georgia is better….or is it an upset if the least of two teams (you are saying it is Florida) beats the better team (you are saying Georgia)…..make some sense my man!!!
….and sucking is not scoring 27 points against LSU and losing in the last 3 seconds against a top 5 team.
….and sucking is losing to MSU at home and only scoring 7 points.
If the team that played LSU or Kentucky shows up Saturday…Georgia will have its hands full…believe me.
If the team that played MSU show up and plays poorly….mainly because it had key players playing hurt (RB-Demps…played with a troublesome foot injury, QB-Brantley…played with rib and throwing hand thumb injury, RB-Gillislee…played with a hamstring injury, and Jenoris Jenkins…played with a hamstring injury….and several key players not playing at all (startomg CB-Moses Jenkins…fractured elbow since game one, starting DT-Jaye Howard…out with badly sprained ankle in the first quarter of the LSU game, RB/slot receiver-Chris Rainey…suspended for acting real stupid towards his long time girl friend, WR-Andre Debose…out early in first quarter with a badly sprained ankle, MLB-Jelani Jenkins….out with a mild concussion suffered in the LSU game, OG-James Wilson…out with knee injury, WR-Deonte Thompson…out with a mild concussion from the LSU game, OT-Matt Patchan…out all season with knee injury, RB-Emmanual Moody…out with a leg injury, ALL OF WHICH WILL BE MOSTLY HEALTHY AND/OR BACK FOR THE GEORIGA GAME….then Georgia will win easily.
But…I suspect….with all the above players back and mostly healthy and in good standing….and with a week off to get healthy and hopefully correct some things on offense….the Gators will come out playing like they are capable of playing….and played against Kentucky….and give Georgia all they want and more.
It has been a strange season for the Gators….but they are still very loaded with some very good talent…and if they put it all together next Saturday….WATCH OUT!

Mark, apparently Vegas doesn’t share your optimism. The early line has the Gators by 1.5, and this is a team that has lost 3 games in a row.
What that tells me is:
1. The oddsmakers are giving weight to Florida’s recent history with the Dawgs.
2. Vegas is not impressed by who the Dawgs have beaten in the last 3 games.
3. Vegas believes the Gator coaching staff is better.
Just some thoughts….

I was talking about the Gators punter (who is truly the best punter in the country…and you will see in this year’s NFL draft)…Chas Henry….having to kick field goals in the Georgia game…because all three of the Gator FG kickers are injured.
Yes….Drew Butler kicks them far and long….but Chas Henry kicks them VERY HIGH…and VERY FAR….AND VERY LONG…..and hardly anyone ever returns a kick against him even though he is averaging over 45 yards a kick….and no one places the ball between the 0 and the 10 better than Chas Henry…and by the way….he is from Georgia.

TampaGator…you never disappoint me..always the sarcastic remarks about the dawg fans and tens of thousands of excuses for your gators..i think most of us realistic dawg fans by no means think we are a powerhouse and are going to steamroll the gators..i will add something to what you said however…our losses have alsom been to top 25 teams in SC..at Columbia..Ark..at home and Miss State..in starkville…disn’t you all lose to Miss State on your own field….but you are quiet right, both the dawgs and gators could have easily won everyone of those games…i don’t think either team is as bad as their record..but..i’m not going to make excuses for our losses, they are what they are..glad to see that you have Rainey back…unfortunately when our former QB, possibly starter made a stupid mistake for the first time in his life, our coach, kicked him off the team…he probably deserved another chance, but not at uga…different story i guess for Rainey, and though i think he deserved another chance also, it shouldn’t have been at Florida…but thats the decision of your school and Coach..and please don’t give me that its two different things…bottom line is that is was uncalled for incidents against a young woman…spin it anyway you like, but thats what it is…i would just ask that you don’t lump all dawg fans as being unrealistic about our team…for us that follow the dawgs closely, we know what we are and we are just proud that we have turned our season around from where we started…win or lose in Jax, we still will back our dawgs…

SEC Observer…I wouldn’t have thought otherwise regarding Vegas, picking the gators…i like that the dawgs are the underdogs in their minds and based on our recent past in Jax…who could blame them…this year even though neither team has performed as expected, you still have to go with the odds…the gators being off the week before surely helps…it gives the team extra preparation…the dawgs get back late from Kentucky and have less time to prepare but i don’t think that is as huge as some make it…i think the fact that we are hitting on most cylinders right now is good and taking a week off may not be best right now…i like our chances this year, but i have liked our chances many times down here, so who knows..what ever team makes the fewest mistakes will win…i think it will come down to a one possession game for one team or the other…go dawgs

The Gators are good, don’t let there be any mistake about it. UGA is good too! The big difference is that the Gators are without TeBow. They will find themselves, but not unlike UGA without Stafford, there was no good replacement. The Gators will be ready, the dogs will be too! The rest for the Gators will help them, and the Gators could get 2-3 quick scores on new things. Rainey is now being highly recruited by Auburn as a transfer. Should be a good game.

Dawgster….I said the game is a toss up if the Gators show up healthy and ready to play like they did against Kentucky.
Not healthy for LSU and MSU…and that is a fact…not an excuse for losing. The Gators lost because LSU and MSU were better than night.
Concerning your QB that was kicked off the team…and your inaccurate Rainey comparison….your QB was charged and pleaded quilty to a crime in a plea deal to avoid a serious “hands (and who knows what else) on a female” felony conviction. Rainey was charged with a verbal assault but the charges were later dropped without a plea deal…because the women he has had a long-term relationship with and knows him best dropped the charges. Still…Meyer suspended Rainey from the team…and after the chares were dropped….worked with the players, the university, and the law to work out a program that Rainey could work his way back into the good graces of the team and the university…and Rainey has done that. Believe me, if Rainey had been convicted (as your QB was in a plea deal)…he would never play for the Gators again. That didn’t happen…he met the requirements of being back on the team…and he is. So use an anology that relates my friend….like your QB and Jamar Hornsby…and in that case…Meyer did exactly the same thing your coach did….kick him off the team for good. Meyer has always kicked players off the team that were convicted of felony crimes….Jamar Hornsby and Ronnie Wilson (the only two players ever charged and plea convicted of felonies) while Meyer has been the head coach at Florida.

The Dawgs are hot and the Gators have had an extra week to lick their wounds. This is a close game to call, obviously. I’m looking forward to seeing it and actually have always wanted to go to it.
And yes if I remember correctly, in July, when the Braves had an 8 game lead over the Phillies Mark Bradley gave us 8 reasons why the Braves wouldn’t blow that lead.

In all my travels, I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a fan base whose self-perception is so far from reality. Georgia fashions itself a national power in the vein of Ohio State, USC, et. al., based primarily off one glorious three-year run 30 years ago with Herschel Walker.

Also Dawgster….I said…at best the Georgia/Florida game is a toss up if Florida shows up like they did against Kentucky. You need to take your blinders off when you read and post. I have said all year that Georgia would be a totally different team when A.J. Green returned…and they are. I think Florida will be a totally different team…as compared to how they played last week against MSU….with a much healthier and polished team on the field next weekend against your Dawgs. Georgia is a good team now…not great. Florida is a bad team right now…but could be great next Saturday…and if they are…WATCH OUT DAWG FRIEND!!!

Georgia has better than Average offense. Fair defense. Florida has a horrible offense and great athletes on defense. Both teams seem to be hurting in the assit. coaching category. Florida owns the head game. They will tell Dawgs that in pre game warm ups. After watching both teams the last three weeks, Dawgs should win, but Meyer will have them jacked up and tell them that losing to Georgia is unacceptable, especially these Dawgs. It’ll be close. I ‘m scared to pick.

One more thing before I go…..Florida has a lot more to lose right now because they remain in control of their own destiny….Georgia doesn’t. They need to beat Florida…which is very hard for them lately…and then hope that Florida beat SC…..and I can’t see both off those factors happening….but I do see how Florida could beat both Georgia and SC and head back to Atlanta to get beat by either Bama or Auburn…the obvious class teams of the SEC…and one of those two teams will play Oregon (not Boise State) and get beat…soundly…for Oregon is the obvious class team of college football this year. Now good nite.

A victory over Florida this year won’t get many kudos except in Georgia. A defeat will make the Auburn game the only chance left to beat a ranked team. Not a good time for anybody to play Auburn. I know. The only thing really close in the LSU game was the score. Unlike Florida, UGA only needed to press the reset button(AJ) to get started. Florida’s problems are much more complex. LSU needs to get by Alabama and Arkansas somehow and have somebody beat Auburn. I would love for Georgia and Alabama to take down Auburn. Unfortunately, I don’t see LSU or UGA completing those missions. Alabama, maybe yes.

If Georgia could defend the forward pass, they would run the table….Kentucky threw at will on our secondary, with a pretty good pass rush……We have a 60/40 chance to beat Gators and a 30/70 against Auburn. Our line is really starting to jell, with that, we run it down Tech’s throat again with Nesbitt helplessly watching on the sidelines and win pretty easy. Tech will be calling for Johnson’s head next year after Nesbitt leaves and they sputter to 5-7 or so….

IF Florida wins this year, I’ll be changing my mind about the game and will politic to have a home and home or possible moving it to Atlanta. UGA will beat Florida by 3, Idaho State by 33, Auburn by 7 and Tech by 27. The D is a concern but we definitely have a better offense than Florida and their defense is only slightly better. We can win a shootout against Auburn or a low scoring game. We’ll kill Tech, say 44-17. You know that you have a really weak non-conference schedule when Tech is the best team you’ll face out of conference.

Well you know—Georgia has a mental thing about beating Florida—I really do not understand it because usually when ateam lines up and runs over Florida —Florida does not win. You have to play physical and to the last second of the game with no turn overs—-other wise–Florida will win this game no doubt–I just dont think Richt gets it yet–Dooley never struggeled (sp?) with Florida—-Maybe Richt should talk to Dooley about the Florida game and get some suggestions. It would be nice to see Georgia beat Florida but———I will go ahead and make a prediction–if Richt does not beat Florida and Ga Tech this year ———–he will be fired–end of story.

TampaGator..as usual you get on here and spin things your way all the time…and my friend..you can say our QB’s incident and that of Rainey’s is apples and oranges, but i would disagree..but that fine if want to say that…if you would bother reading my posts a little with a little more intellegence you would see that i was trying to say that both of the incidents were violations against young women, no matter how you spin it or what charge was what or who plead what…i will say that i would think that a young man that texted someone “time to die” is pretty serious and also when a young man puts his hand on a woman without her permisssion, drinking or not, it is quiet serious and our coach did what he had to do…your coach had the same opportunity but chose another route..thats his choice..alos, since as you do do often…you forget what you post…then comeback and attack the people that disagree with you by insulting their intellegence…i commented about your sarcastic remarks toward the dawgs as you always do…i said nothing about who you thought should win or not…my whole point to you was that you always want to put the dawg fans down for any excitement that they may have on our team…we understand where we are and how the season has been so far, but everytime we make a statement regarding how the team has improved and that we are looking better..but you have to get in your digs, everytime..i don’t get that..but i guess its just how you feel..again….i its sad that you feel that their is a big difference in what Rainey did or that he wasn’t convicted because the charges were dropped..bottom line is that whether it was a dumb, silly mistake or not, he still cannot deny, nor can you, that he did indeed send a threatening text…but as i said earlier, everyone makes mistakes…wasn’t my decision nor yours so it is what it is..i was only pointing out how the two incidents were handled differently…i will say this whether the dawgs win or lose Sat to the gators, i won’t come on here and get on your fans for feeling good about your team nor will i say how great we are or rub it in your noses…i will enjoy the win, and move on from there…i will be anxious to see how you respond to the dawg faithful if you should win…anyway good luck and should be a good game…go dawgs.

As far as the BCS, if the SEC champion is left out of the title game it won’t really be legitimate. After 4 straight BCS titles the SEC has earned the right to be represented in the championship. Any other outcome will cost the BCS title game credibility, especially if lightweight Boise State is one of the opponents. I’d venture to bet that less than a quarter of the country truly believes the Broncos can stay on the field with the SEC champion for more than a quarter. Hell, UGA would blow them out (again), and they’re an also-ran in the SEC East. The media and the computers would never treat “mighty” USC with so little respect.

This happens if, and only if, UF turns it over at least 4 times in their own redzone, if Urban leaves the game for health reasons, if Murray grows 6″ between now and Saturday, if UF is on its 3rd string QB and UGA puts 14 players on the field every 2nd, 3rd and 4th down and the refs don’t call it… and yes, if we do another blackout!!!!
We suck. We really do. I’m over the hype folks. We’re not consitent. We’re not a winning team, we just made .500. We have a coach balding and getting fatter this year while OUR, NOT HIS, team gets worse. I saw the bowl projections that Delbert D. posted. Is anyone as tired as I am of almost always playing the “league that can’t count”, i.e. the Big 10? Playing them got old in the 90’s. Beating them consistently has become even more tiresome. Sure, the Dawgs got FSU and Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, but those were the least attractive games of the major bowls in both of those years. I’d prefer to take on a Pac-10 or Big 12 team, especially before realignment comes to those conferences. I especially want to have a shot at the University of Spoiled Children (USC) or Nebraska. The Dawgs’ record probably precludes those match-ups this year, but stranger things have happened. I’ve seen 10-1 teams wind up in the Holiday Bowl against 8-4 teams before. UGA went 9-1-1 and shared the SEC championship (if my memory is correct) and had to settle for the Bluebonnet Bowl against a mediocre Stanford in the late 70’s. The disappointed Dawgs played with no emotion and lost that game, too. It would be nice to be the underDawg and show the nation what kind of football is played in the South. As if they didn’t already have a clue by now.

This about as even as these two teams have been in awhile. Tebow gave the Gators a big advantage in the last 4 years. He was that good a player and leader. Florida has not found a player to fill that void yet.
Georgia was never as bad as they looked during that 4 game losing streak, nor are they as good as they have looked in the last three.
This game will come down to who plays the best early. Florida has to lack some confidence because of their current losing streak, but if something good happens early for them, they could roll.
Georgia is gaining confidence, but has to overcome the “demons” of playing Florida and the lack of success they have had against the Gators. If something good happens to them early, they could roll. This game will be decided by 2 touchdowns either way.
Oh, and to the dopes who want to fire Bobo, check out the SEC stats and see where Georgia ranks in total offense. And that was without A.J. and Chapas for 4 games. Some of you folks are just plain dumb with your comments. And I used to pull for Tech when they were not playing Georgia, but you Tech fans are making it very hard to continue that. Ya’ll have problems of your own, that ain’t going to get fixed this year.

We’re out of control and we’re about to hit a brick wall with UF because I’ve got a bad feeling they’ve gotten their act together and it won’t be anything anyone has seen on tape this year and that means adjustments which we don’t make well will not be made at all.
when you start firing cordinators to keep your job, the ship has sunk. I don’t see Saban doing that but we saw Tubberville do it for sure at Auburn. it’s a sign.

If UGA can’t beat Florida this year then it may not happen for a very long time. This is the worst Florida team in recent memory. They are completely out of sync pretty much every game. I think UGA wins by at least two touchdowns.

Bottom Line..you’re right the dawgs were not as bad as they looked nor as good as they look now, probably somewhere in between…i hop on Sat they are better than they really are..you’re right on about the confidence they have gained, but its got to be in the back of their minds as to how this series has gone for awhile…i know its in my mind…but on paper it looks like this one should be pretty even….i think our offense will be the key..we have got to move the ball, and we have done that in the past, but had to settle for field goals…we cannot do that this time…we need to punch it in when we get to the red zone..defense will be tested and probably give up some yardage and some points, but in the end it will be whether our offense can score enough…

Here should be the plan… 1) run the ball, 2) run the ball more, 3) run the ball down the throats of the Gators. We just don’t need to get fancy in this game and stick with what has made us score 125 points in the last 3 games.

Dawgster… I agree with you. I grow weary of the senseless war of words. It frequently leads to name calling and insults. I honestly believe that coach Meyer and coach Richt are very good coaches. I also think that both teams are middling so far this season but I believe that the dawgs are on the upswing. If they stay focused and disciplined, they stand a good chance of winning. There are plenty of good players on both teams that represent their school well in character and on the field. As usual, the outcome will be decided on the field, not on this blog.

SEC Fact Finder
October 24th, 2010
11:38 pm
This is going to be a fun week, all the smack talk, bragging, accusations etc. all week.
Lets look realistically at this game and what each team has done in the previous 8 games this year.
UGA just spent the week and weekend preparing and playing a Kentucky team that played UGA hard for 4 quarters and would not allow UGA to substitute as freely as they really wanted to.
UF was at home with an off week to heal, regroup and find answers to their offensive woes.
UGA will get back Caleb King after a suspension, UF will get back Chris Rainey from a suspension.
UGA will have a normal week for preparation, while UF has 13 days to scout and game plan UGA.
UGA has won 3 straight games against 3 teams with losing records in SEC play. UF has lost three straight games against 3 teams that are ranked in the top 25. Winning is winning, and losing is losing, and streaks are streaks.
The biggest factor in this game is going to be how Urban adjusted his offense, and any new wrinkles he has added and how long it takes UGA and Todd Grantham to adjust. Georgia has a pretty good offense and UF has a pretty good defense. UF has a below average offense and UGA has a fair defense.
The adjustments, the rest and the resurgence of UGA will make this a tough one to call. But in everygame this season when a team has had and off week to prepare the team with the off week has won.
Like I said, this is going to a fun week to read all the tash talking.

DAWGNATION….and DAWGLOVERS…..it’s GEORGIA VS FLORIDA WEEK. The last time I went to the Georgia vs Florida game I was a senior in high school 1996. Ray Goff was the head coach of the Dawgs. Danny Wuerffel was the Gators QB. They played here in Athens. By far it was the best game of the whole year…it was money pumped into Athens.
So…..this is 15 years in the making I believe it is time for me to pull a JACKSONVILLE VIRGIN and say I am headed down to the game this weekend if I can find some tickets. LETS GO DAWG FANS LETS GET CRUNK….>>>>GO DAWGS SICK EM!

UGa will lose…and I hate that I just typed that…but they will. We will need a running attack to win, and we have none. We have the 3rd worst O line in the SEC (just ahead of Vandy and Tenn.). UF’s Brantley CAN throw, and our secondary is pitiful. UF will win 42 -17.

Florida will quit early after the Dawgs roll up a 20 point lead and head back to gainesville with another L! florida’s heading to shreveport this year, if they can beat vanderbilt and app state, which is not guaranteed.

ONE of CUM’s “schemes” is that this year it’ll be HIM who tweak with the unis. If I’m right, that’ll show that all is definitely NOT right in that noggin of his (well we already know that but…). UGA is going to go into this game with a different mindset than years past–as will the Gators. CUM is facing something of a dilemma that he hasn’t before. Think the ‘Dogs have gone to J-ville in the last decade with a tentative mindset? Bet CUM has a couple of (extra) mental hang-ups of his own about now.

Some of you guys are forgetting how this works… no matter how good we are, how much confidence we have, how much momentum we have, we always wet the bed in Jacksonville. Also, we are not as good as some of you are pretending. We are 4-4. With some bad losses. Just because we’ve won a couple, don’t take this game as predetermined. I think we have a shot. I think we’ll most likely lose, because in Jacksonville, that’s what we do.

TampaGator…Patrick Peterson is one of the best cover corners (if not the best) in all of CFB. He couldn’t shut AJ down last year, though he fared better than most. I don’t care who you have at corner, AJ is the best WR in college football and it will be a long day for whoever covers him if we decide to throw his way. That said, I think you guys still get it done (unfortunately). And Oregon is hardly the class of CFB. If I remember right, that team from Knoxville ran all over the Ducks. I shudder to think what a better team could do. Explosive, yes…but the most explosive teams tend to lose the title games (just ask FSU, Oklahoma, USC against Texas). Defense wins championships.

I will withhold any further bad feelings about Richt for now. But I was in the 20 percent in your poll who feel Florida wins-again. Its true if Richt can’t beat Florida in a down year he probably will never beat them again, and hopefully Richt will be gone soon and UGA can finally put together a search committee as good as the one Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, South Carolina put together in acquiring Saban, Chizic, Meyer, Miles(yes he’s better than Richt) and Spurrier. The search committee is key and hopefully will be competent enough next time to not select any more second, third best choices like unproven assistant coaches or a Marshall coach. Petersen of Boise State is by no means unproven and would be someone who could knock heads with the best. He knows something of defenses who tackle and attack and innovative play-calling on offense. But he won’t be available and if he was UGA wouldn’t know how to lure him.

How is that going to help his 40-18 record over these last 5 years 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 ?
He only beat a 4-loss Florida in this timeframe.
Now, you say he does a 2nd time yet again another then 4-loss Florida.
UNRANKED Florida.
We haven’t beat anyone this entire season and have a loss to hapless losing record Colorado in addition.
Our Offense is # 62 in the nation in Total Offense and # 8 in The SEC
Which is where we are ranked # 8 in The SEC.
Folks who brag on Aaron Murray have to not disclose his 4-4 record, his # 6 in SEC throwing TD, his # 8 SEC being sacked as a QB, # 7 in SEC in passes completed, # 7 SEC in 1st Downs, etc.
The Opposing Quartterback in the games has been better than he nearly every single game.
Those who were not, were cupcakes and cupcakes beat us too.
Now, 80 percent predict a win by CMR over Urban Meyer, who has a better defense than we have.
Yes, their offense is worse but they played LSU and Auburn whom we will not play this season.
Let’s get all excited about a game vs a coach CMR is 1-4 against.

When did a 4-4 (50%)record become better than a 4-3 (57%)record? and teams that lose big to a terrible, unranked Colarodo and get beat soundly by Arkansas, South Carolina, and Miss. State teams are usually not rated higher than teams that lose to Bama and lose close games to LSU and Miss. State…all ranked in the top 25.
Also….Janoris Jenkins and Joe Haden have both shut down A.J. Green for the last two years. Haden is gone and Jenkins has been hurting. And Moses Jenkins is back…..so we will just have to wait and see this year.

It our Gators get some intensity, field leadership from the seniors and Addazio wakes up, it will be a very good game. The team that plays with the most heart and desire to win will win the game. When you have the former O-Coordinator playing his old team, he tends to know………………….THE OFFENSE!
You said that, “Florida only scored 7 points against MSU.” I think being the former Coordinator and architect of the “Spread Offense” it shouldn’t be a hard task for the MSU head coach to figure out how to stop that Offense. Along with Urban Meyer, it was his team!
Btw, they also lost to top ranked Bama and LSU. Georgia? I wouldn’t make any comparisons about losing streaks if I were a dawg fan.

I’ve been a gator fan for over 50 years and I’ve never seen a team with this much talent play at such a low level. It’s truly stupid that the head coach recruited a classic drop back passer to run his spread offense. And why is an offensive line coach calling the plays as an offensive coordinator? The supidity of it all is unbelivable. Meyer needs to get control of this team and replace the qb and find somebody who knows how to call plays. This coaching staff is getting exactly what they deserve by the arrogance they display in not addressing the obvious. I would be surprised if they win another game this year.

I can’t imagine a Georgia coach who had his teams less prepared for a big game than CMR had his 2008 and 2009 charges for you guys. Those were drubbings on a monumental scale – and still cause my blood pressure to rise.

TampaGator, if Georgia wins it is because they are the better team. The one facet of GA Football for years has been a lack of coaching in one area or another…. which you are experiencing some of right now with Oddazzio ( see we had to deal with Slick Willie for a number of years- and now Bobo ). Georgia is one of the few teams that can match up with the Gators plain and simple I don’t care what you say- we have been right up there year after year with the Gators in recruting… Too often in the past the lack of coaching bordered on ridiculous and insane lending to mental meltdowns- hence undisciplined play… Back to X’s and O’s— I don’t think you are going to be able to run against GA; so, GA will have to play good solid pass defense ( god I hope they stay away from the Zone Sh*T )… We all know Florida will stack the line and force GA to throw- it is imperative to get the tight ends and other wide outs involved ( see King, Wooten, Durham etc )… it isn’t q

Bull-Gator, you are totally correct. Another thing which seems absurd to me is why doeas Coach Meyer allow Addazio to be the Offensive Coord coaching from the sideline rathar than up in a box where he can better see the field. I do not know of any sucessful team which has the offensive coord on the sideline during a game. It also seems absurd to have the offensive line coach as the offensive coord, but it is Meyer’s decision. This Gator team has bee very difficult to watch, and as we both know, the mood in the Swamp was very sour after the last 2 home games.
Hopefully, our team will get the fire and intensity back into their play this week.

I think UF and UGA are very even, just looking at the three common teams they have played. they both lost tough games vs MSU, with UF home and UGA at Starksville. They both handled UK and UT.
Anybody thinking this will be easy for UGA needs to get back into their straight-jacket and thake their lithium.
Mark Richt has gone to Jax, what, 5 times with clearly the better team, and won only twice. Only once did he coach in an attacking style and it worked well. In his other trips, he coached to not-lose.
If Richt/Bobo go aggressive Sat, UGA will have a chance to win. If they come in conservative and start their 3-and-out offense, UF will kick our butts once again.

Both teams will score points.
But the Dawgs defense is suspect. Giving up 31 pts to Kentucky (21 in the 2nd half alone) is not a good sign.
The game will be determined by the defense. A defense that gives up 31 to Kentucky isn’t very good- isn’t good enough to hold Florida.
Florida wins in a high scoring affair.

DawginLex…i think the bottom line here is, and not that i expect it, but many gator fans are not willing to give the dawgs players or coaches, and fans any respect until we can prove we can beat them with some consistancy…until that happens we are going to be viewed as a team that lays a egg in Jax everyyear…and i guess you can’t argue that…but this year the teams have both had their own issues..the dawgs seem to have righted the ship some and the gators, well we don’t know…i sure both teams will give their best Sat and the team that has the fewest turnovers should win..

ALSO, ANOTHER POINT WORTH MENTIONING–
The game plan against UK (keep it on the ground and threw the ball only 12 times all day) was a flawed plan. Yes, we scored 44 points but would have LOST that game had it not been for the kickoff return and UK fumbles.
The defense still needs a lot of work and Bobo is still a BOZO.

Four weeks ago I didn’t think UGA could beat Valdosta St. But it seems that CMR likes his job after all and decided to start coaching again. They’re playing with a fire that they’ve lacked for two seasons and there is no reason that they shouldn’t beat Florida. Well, there is one. The fact that the Gators have had an extra week to prepare offensively should not go without mention. UGA is still showing lapses on the defensive side of the ball and that scares me a bit. If the offense can make sustained drives and keep UF’s offense off the field, I think the Dawgs will be fine. A couple of turnovers, however, would kill them. UGA 34 – UF 24

It would be really great to get this one over UF and this is the yr to do it but big picture do you really think our D can stop Cam Newton?? Blackberry Cobbler…the fact is the turnovers did happen, thats what happens in games…the dawgs didn’t need to pass, and we have been trying all year to establish the running game…finally we were able to do that…doesn’t matter that Kentucky contributed to that…saying the game plan was flawed..we put up 44 poiints..without opening up the offense…had we not had the turnovers, i’m sure we would done some things diffierently, but we didn’t need to..running the ball kept the clock moving and kept their offense off the field as much as possible…once we had a lead like we did, all we had to do was not make turnovers…we did what we needed to do and i think gained a little more confidence for our running game…i think the game plan was fine and we adjusted our strategy based on gettting those turnovers when and where we got them…

If UF shows up with any level of passing game, we’re screwed! Our defensve backs can’t stay within 15 yards of a receiver on any pass route. If our starting defensive backs are the best we have, then every team we play is going to realize that and throw everything they have at us. Yes, we’re able to stop the run but can’t stop the completed pass…Kentucky was like 6 for 6 during the game on third down with 10+ yards to go!!! Come on guys show us you know how to stay with a receiver more than 5 yards from the line and start earning the thousands in scholarship money you’ve been given.

They put up big numbers against other good teams so the idea that the Dawgs are going to lose against Florida because of their pass defense against the Cats is ridiculous. I’m reluctant to pick any team in any game this year given my record. However, Florida’s problem is Urban Meyer. Florida won’t beat Georgia this year. Urban is exposed. If Richt can’t come up with preparation and a plan to defeat a Gator team this far on the skids, he certainly has to go.
The idea of beating Auburn isn’t even in the realm of possibility at this juncture but, for me personally to stomach the Richt era one more year, beating Florida and Tech is a must. Losing to Ida ST would be acceptable but losing to Florida is not.
With that said, yes, there is no reason why the Dawgs lose to Florida. Georgia is clearly the superior team. The offense can score and while the defense is porous they can stop. Gauging the Defense by Kentucky is wrong, the Wildcats can score a lot of points on anyone.

Mark, I hope you’re right, but I doubt it. UGA coaches and players (and, yes, fans) clearly have a head problem when it comes to UF. They could be winless, we could be ranked #1, and I’d still have to go with UF. Until we actually step out on to the field, hit them hard at the outset (no gimmicks!), don’t let up until 000 on the clock, and win, and do so 2 or 3 years in a row, you have to go with UF just based on recent history.

Their defense is better than our offense. Our defense gives up the huge pass plays. Florida will probably get those off enough to win. Maybe a heartbreaker maybe a blow out. Who would think so much could be riding on a game involving two unranked teams. This is a BIG game for both programs (much more than bragging rights) but nationally I am sure no one cares.

Agree, I think we have a chance to win…only thing I’d ad are two assumptions: 1. We score first to gain some immediate momentum. 2. Play calling doesn’t revert to a predictable “conservative” strategy in which case Coach Urban will shut it down.

Let me tell y’all that don”t believe in my dawgs. All we gotta do is keep the ball on the ground when coach says run it. And we gotta make it past the line of scrimmage as many times as we can. When he says tho it, we gotta tho it to AJ or another one of our guys. As long as we do that and score more ponts than them gators, we’ll win this thang. LISTEN TO THE BIGDAWG!

We ALL know what it takes to beat the Gators. We have been there before. We have been there with high hopes. Sometimes, we seem to be our own worst enemy. Stomping on the field. Wearing black. I have NEVER seen such CRAP. The Dawgs have been improving, no doubt about it. Will they regress to earlier season form? Lets hope not. I have been to a bunch of games in Jax, and it takes just one play to separate the winner from the loser. Lets do it Dawgs, coaches too! Bring home a WIN!

Florida and Georgia will play to a 0-0 tie after 5 overtimes. Everyone will get up and leave the Gator Bowl. Georgia and Florida will be dropped by the SEC and forced into the Southern Conference. (This is called tongue-in-cheek so don’t get upset). Both schools will raise hell and UGA VIII wil become president of University of Gorgia. The GA players will all report to prison and after serving two weeks they will promptly move to the islands and take up surfing. Who says college football isn’t fun?

This should definitely be payback time for the Dawgs. Lets not forget what Coach Meyers did to the Dawgs last year. He retaliated because the Dawgs sent their players on the field the year before beating Florida. Remember? As a result of them being a sore loser the previous year before, as they hammered the Dawgs, he decided to run the numbers up and towards the end of the 4th quarter, they scored again and he called a time out for Florida (when he didn’t have to) just to add insult to the injury. They also would go for two points as well. So I say let return the favor to Meyers. Lets run the numbers up on them. Lets not leave any doubt.

Serious Dawg fans need to start organizing and demanding that Richt be fired. Otherwise, sports writers will be asking the same question this time a year from now.
Richt represents mediocrity. Saban and Meyer represent excellence and championships. Richt simply isn’t in their class, nor will he ever be. Richt would have to be incredibly lucky to win the division, and the odds against him winning the SEC championship would be at least 50:1.
Those are the simple facts, and there’s no amount of enthusiasm or cheerleading or Top 5 recruiting classes that can get around it.
As they say in poker, “Read ‘em and weep.”

bradley: i don’t think 24 points will be enough to get it done. i think we’ll need 30+. i love my dawgs and never stopped believing in them, but i’m just not ready to say that we’ll beat florida. losing 17 our of 20 will do that to a sensible person. i’m ready to say it will be a close game, but not that we’ll win. i just don’t have a sense of how good this florida team can be, or if we’re ready to impose our will in the 4th quarter the way that we’ll probably need to in order to win the game.
i think the psychological stuff won’t affect this group as much as has in the past: we’re a very confident team right now, and getting branden smith back (”very probable” at this point) should help us in the secondary and on special teams. caleb king being back should help as well.

2. Poor defense.
3. incohernt offensive game plan.
But MB; you have stated UGa has so much momentum and better talent; so what does that say about them if they lose. Anticipating another apologetic commentary if Georgia loses.

I think it will be close. Georgia is getting more comfortable in their new defensive scheme and the players are beginning to understand it and react instead of thinking about what to do. But they still don’t tackle well. The offense can put points on the board in bunches and that’s why I am looking for a high scoring game – something around 42 to 40. It’s a tossup and I’m a Dawg fan but the extra week off will help Florida big time. I hope the dawgs can pull it out, but I am apprehensive.

Here’s Florida’s problem – they lost their offensive brain trust in Mullen who had been with Meyer since Utah – they would have sucked last year if not for Tebow – and even with him they were fading last year / they lost their defensive brain trust in Strong and that leaves Urban who can’t coach either. That team is full of talented prima donnas but has no chemistry right now and besides that – you can only put 11 on the field at once. I like us in this game because we are on a winning streak and Florida is on a losing streak – they get Rainey back from death threats and parole and we get King back from a traffic ticket and we just might have everybody on the field for the first time all together this year. Aj is wanting to atone for his 4 game absence and Ealey is madder than He## and King is right behind him. And the fact is Green isn’t even our best receiver – Durham is. I think our D is getting better every week and will show up just fine on Saturday. If you saw Meyer on the sideline last week you saw a man who’s heart is no longer in the game….when Tebow left he knows he should have left with him. What Urban is finding out is that it’s easy to be a hero for 2 or 3 years and then fly off to another school but if you stay in any one place long enough the wheel is going to turn and you will not be on the top. That’s why people who call for a coaches firing after a bad season are nuts – it’s not possible to have that kind of energy and and chemistry every single year – sooner or later you just fizzle out. How good is this UGA team when after 4 tough losses they have COME BACK and are on the verge of turning this ship around? That takes guts and leadership – and CHARACTER. This team may just go from underdogs to wonderdogs…….hold on to your seats, boys.

With everyone so down on the UGA secondary this week because of 353 yds given up I think everyone is failing to realize just why we gave up that many yds… We were up 28 -3… They HAD to throw just to stay in the game. We dialed back like we typically do which could have cost us…
Saying we suck because we gave up 353 in a game where they HAD to throw is the same as saying Murry sucked because he only had 121 yds… He was 9/12 and had 121 yds because he didn’t have to bother throwing the ball. Our D gave us field position all night. Created turn over after turn over after turnover… Not to mention Ealey ran like a man possessed. We played a little too soft after that big lead but at the same time we stopped their arse and the score isn’t indicative of the true outcome of this game.

As a life long dawg fan living in Jax its has been a hard road to travel living with all these gaytors. I wonder if CMR will show with great talent but still be undercoached .. Stupid penalties, poor offensive game plan, inability to stop the big play, etc… Its been too long having very good players not playing up to their potential. Please GOD dont try some stupid uniform change, how about coaching them instead. Theres no excuse not to beat UF this year, they are clearly down on talent and lack an identity. Lets hope that Bobo has some kind of gameplan instead or sprint draw, sprint draw , pass, which keeps us in 2nd/3rd and long all day. Spread them out inside the redzone instead of going to the I-formation. We have a very mobile and talented QB, let him loose !!!! Losing to them this year I would have to say should be the nail in the coffin for CMR.

Mark – I like what you said about GA’s chance a few weeks ago. That GA will win games, etc. It was impossible, however, you were the only one who said it. Good prediction.
However, Florida will win, in fact, convincigly over GA, even though Florida’s offense has not developed or matured ( Yes, SA will be gone at the end of the year)
FLorida will beat GA , VA, SC and FSU as well as beat Auburn (if Alabama is in SEC, Florida will not win and i think Auburn will beat Alabama)
So, as much as it hurts true sports fan, Florida will play for sugar bowl this year.
thanks for all your time (this year, FL-GA is not a rivalry, but a survival game..for GA, MR wont be a coach if he loses…for FL, fans will put Steve Spurrier above Urban Myer if FL loses)
