These were six of Washaun Ealey's 30 points. (AP photo)
LEXINGTON, Ky. — On the morning of Oct. 9, the Georgia Bulldogs were 1-4. We mention this because … well, because it’s Oct. 25 and they sure as heck aren’t 1-4 anymore.
They’re a robust 4-4, having won three SEC games by the aggregate score of 128-45. They’re 4-4 headed to Jacksonville in a better frame of mind than the hated Gators, who’ve lost three in a row. They’re 4-4 and maybe they haven’t beaten the Who’s Who of BCS Bullies, but it wasn’t so long ago Georgia couldn’t beat anybody anywhere.
And now you’re asking: Is this apparent resurgence the real deal or just a red (and black) herring? And the answer is …
It’s real for this simple reason: Georgia was far too talented to have been 1-4, and we’re finally seeing what happens when that talent is brought to bear. The Bulldogs won big in a place where South Carolina lost just last week not only because Kentucky messed up — though the Wildcats did more than their share of that — but because some big-time players made big-time plays.
Brandon Boykin took another kickoff back 100 yards. A.J. Green rose up a couple of times and reminded us that he’s the best receiver among collegians. (Also that he was sorely missed throughout September.) Justin Houston did a Lawrence Taylor all over the Big Blue — sacking the quarterback, recovering a fumble, coming within a step of making his own Kroy Biermann deflect-catch-and-score memory.
And Washaun Ealey, whose fumbles on the goal line and misadventure in the parking garage became the symbol of that staggering start, came to the Bluegrass and rewrote his bio. He’s no longer Washaun Ealey, the man who cannot be trusted in the red zone. He’s now Washaun Ealey, the Bulldog who nearly outscored Kentucky by himself.
Five touchdowns for Ealey and one for Boykin and three early Kentucky fumbles made this easier than it should have been. (And a cosmetic fourth-quarter rally made the final score closer than the game itself.) Georgia got way ahead — it was 28-3 after 23-plus minutes — and buttoned it down. Aaron Murray threw only 12 passes, and that wasn’t because the offensive minds Mark Richt and Mike Bobo got stupid; it was because they got smart.
The first rule of politics also is the first rule of football: When your opponent is in the process of destroying himself, get out of the way. The ‘Dogs applied enough early defensive pressure to discombobulate the ‘Cats, and the rest was simply for form’s sake.
Yes, there were too many times when Houston and the rushers didn’t put Mike Hartline on the ground, and the Kentucky quarterback found unencumbered receivers. But we saw clearly here that Todd Grantham’s 3-4 can deal with a multi-faceted offense that’s cleverly constructed, and it’s unclear we can say half as much about Florida’s shockingly inept attack.
Simply put, Georgia goes to Jacksonville with a chance to stamp itself as the only real challenger to South Carolina in the SEC East, and who among us saw that coming after the losses in Starkville and Boulder? If you’re asking if this defense looks capable of derailing Cam Newton’s run to the Heisman at Auburn on Nov. 13, the answer frankly is no. But it could come a monsoon that day and Georgia might win 3-0 on a 60-yard field goal by Blair Walsh.
What’s important is that the Bulldogs have given themselves a chance to right a season going wrong. Sure, the schedule has had much to do with it, but the early schedule was tougher than calculus. (Especially without Green for Games 1-4.) A youngish team has gotten better the more it has played, and these past three weeks it has been pretty doggone good.
The Tennessee and Vanderbilt games were in Athens. The Kentucky game always loomed as the pre-Jacksonville obstacle, and Georgia came to Commonwealth Stadium and stacked 44 points on Kentucky and never let the hosts have a sniff at victory. It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it came at a perfect time.

We blew them out, regardless of the cosmetic scores in the 4th. If a guy rushes for 5 TD’s, then you’re dominating. Plus, isn’t Kentucky the highest scoring offense in the SEC (or second?)? Let’s take the inferior offense of the gaytors out of the game early and let Ealey and King run wild next week! GO DAWGS!

Glad to get the victory tonight..Bright spots were there and we have improved a good bit from the beginning of the season…..but still have things to clean up and work on.
1. Gotta to get better at pass defense—too many yards given up tonight..albeit Hartline studies a lot of film and does a lot of prep work–has a brother that plays for Dolphins and he knows about extra film study and weight room work.
2. Rushing football tonight was good..but got to get the ball to AJ more–more shots down the field…throw down field 25 yards plus to AJ about 5 times and he makes a least 2 or 3 big plays if not more…Get the most out of AJ as this is probably last year with us.
3. Want to see more playmakers on offense…speed kills.

The worlds largest cocktail party features two crappy teams, both unranked. UF 4-3 and sucking and UGAG 4-4 and always sucking. Have fun losing again in Jax for 18-21. Now, that’s an incredible stat to be happy about. Also, you won’t beat AUBURN, and you won’t beat GT. I think you can beat Idaho State, but not really sure. Your team sucks, so just admit it. Also, you brag about the almighty SEC, but the SEC East is weak as crapola. Hey, Give UGA VIII a bag of ice to lay on, pass around the red panties and get fired up for a game in JAX that doesn’t even matter. THWG! Hey, great win over powerhouse KY though.

TD passes thrown against us that the DB’s never see. They don’t even make a play on the ball. Ky had receivers wide open all night on third and long and UGA can’t do the same. Outcoached once again.

Let me say that a “W” is a “w”. However, as a loyal but critical Dawg fan, I think Bobo’s play calling was absolutely horrific in this game. Thank God that Ealey showed up for this game. It’s good to see him back to form and capable of handeling all the carries instead of splitting them with Caleb. Does kentucky have someone that can Match AJ, Orson Charles, Kris Durahm, etc? The answer is no. I saw time after time opportunities to play action ot AJ or one of the other targets, but we cont. to run the ball. props go to the O line, hell of a game guys. Geathers has made an immediate impact. What gives with our secondary and our D as a whole? They should have kept the Cats under 20 points but gave up with the game in hand. UT, Vandy and KY are not good teams this season. I’m not convinced about a meaninful turnaround. A win against Florida still leaves questions since The Gators stink.
But let’s agree you’re right – there is still no excuse for the miserable losses we had. So the question remains why can’t Richt get quality players ready for games.

UGA is the most awesomest team ever in the history of college football. In the most awesomest conference in the history of sports. Take the best teams from the Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-10, Big East, AFC South, NFC South, American League East, and they would still finish at the bottom of the Greatest Conference Ever. And Georgia is clearly the best team now IN THAT CONFERENCE!! Wow!!! Georgia will beat Florida 124-0. Then, it will be close, but they will beat Auburn 99-7 (Auburn will score because they do have Cam Newton and he’s OK). And pity the poor Yellow Jackets, my goodness those guys should just forfeit before someone gets hurt.

Just a few things that concern me heading to Jax. The defense should have made some interceptions with us up big and knowing they were going to pass. Kentucky was nearly 75% on 3rd down. On 3rd down can’t we fake a blitz and move lb’s back a little more where we will quit giving up 10 to 20 yard passes. Play calling still an issue with us running all the time it allowed Kentucky to keep in striking distance. Still no killer instinct still way to conservative with a lead. Last Walsh is struggling. The last 2 games he hit the upright that was good and missed 2 field goals and a extra point!!! We need him confident against Florida!!! But overall keep winning the turnover battle and GATA!!! So many good things:
1- Houston wreaked havoc
2- Ealey’s 5 td’s
3- Boykin’s big td return
4- Grantham’s gameplan to corral Kentucky playmakers
5- Big catches from AJ
6- Cimmitted no turnovers
7- Forced 4 TO’s
The only mistakes:
1- Got a little too conservative on offense after getting a big lead
2- Defense got burned on blitzes time after time when it seemed the blitzes were unnecessary–gave up too many points and yards–played too aggresive–gave up too many big plays
3- Walsh had a bad day–missed a field goal and extra point
All in all, excellent performance.

Nice column. I especially liked the 3-0 on a 60-yard field goal by Blair Walsh.
However, Walsh will have mono, Bogotay will have a tweaked hamstring, and UGA will win an a Drew Butler 64 yard field goal into the wind. Then Auburn groundskeepers will turn the hoses on UGA fans and sugar will fall from the sky as Larry Munson narrates from the broadcast booth while Scott Howard recovers from laryngitis.

Ealey comes through big in a big game. Defense became sloppy late in the fourth, but if you think about how the time of possession was in the game, they were out there 3/4 of the game. The D played good. Stopped the run. and did a very good job of shutting out a specialty offense’s go-to player. Made Kentucky find other ways to beat us. Hartline is a better passer than Brantley, and Trey Burton is “no ” Randall Cobb. UF is in for a game this year.

Hey as long as long as this team is scoring points, thats all I care about. We don’t have any talent on defense, so I don’t care if we give up garbage TD’s at the end of the game. I think its obvious that Bobo is an idiot and that Mark Richt is a second tier coach, and a three game winning streak isn’t going to erase this fact. Its going to take a lot of luck for this team to make it to the SEC. But as long as they can put up points, we’ll have a shot vs. Florida.

Good game overall by the defense. There still seems to be a player or two not paying attention. That led to some wide open receivers on plays where the line got pressure but couldnt quite get the QB down. Still, the turnovers more than make up for that. I would have liked to see them hold UK off the scoreboard a little better, but overall, another solid effort by the D that continues to look much improved under Grantham.

I wish there could be cheers and high fives all around. But this UGA team is still lost. The play calling still stinks, the pass defense is atrocious, and the players who suck still strut like roosters after making a play they should make every day, but don’t and celebrate like they just won the game. Yes, still alive in the mighty SEC East — Florida has a week off to soothe their team and like always, Urban will have his way. Maybe not by a lot, but UGA will find a way to lose. I don’t even want to contemplate what Auburn and Cam Newton will do to UGA because it doesn’t even seem sporting. Bottom line, another season of what if’s and why not’s. CMR will do just enough to buy another year and we’ll be having these same debates a year from now. I wish, just once, a UGA team would actually play to win instead of not to lose.

Should Georgia beat Florida? Yes.
Will Georgia beat Florida? Probably not. And it won’t be the defense’s fault.
Why? Because Florida has the bye week before the game. AGAIN.
Because Mark Richt has a pathological inability to beat the Gators as the head coach of Georgia (never seemed to be a problem for him at FSU), especially when the Gators are ripe for beating (Zook years).
Plus, how many of us in BulldogNation will be on pins and needles, praying to Jesus and crossing our fingers that (insert player name here) won’t be arrested between now and Saturday?
Mark… the team is playing better on the field, that is true. This is no Willie Martinez soft as pillows defense. The offense is still not greatly managed by Mike Bobo (today notwithstanding), but they’re better with AJ. But do you trust this team off the field? I don’t.
I don’t trust them because in the five-plus seasons after BVG left, Richt’s soft hand lost control of a football program with arrest after arrest after arrest.
I hate that I have to hope that no one gets arrested this week before the Florida game. We shouldn’t even have to THINK about that.
Our Greatest Player EVER shouldn’t have to come out at tell our head coach that he’s lost control of the team and needs to take it back.
Win, lose, or whatever… I just want to get through this cursed season without any more embarrassments OFF the field.

Couldn’t agree more w/”playing time They need to just let Vance Cuff watch.” bench that kid he could have cost GA the game. Even w/a win I’m not encouraged the way the D played on 3rd downs and the way the D Cood called the game. Way too many 3rd and long given up for 1st downs. If I’m FL I’m lickin’ my chops after watching that. If it wasn’t for good ole number 42 (Houston) sacking the KY QB it would have been worse. I don’t see why DC didn’t rush 5 w/one up the middle preventing their QB from stepping up. Take away KY’s 4 TO’s and this could have been another loss for GA, i’m convinced of it.
Play D like they did tonight and FL wins again. Ya just cannot play D like that w/o continous pressure on the QB. GA just does not have good enough CB’s to make up for a lack of QB pressure.
Don’t think FL won’t be ready. I doubt we’ll get handed 4 TO’s in JAX. D cannot continue to give up those 3rd and long. And our Offense will be playing against a bigger and better FL D. I just don’t have the warm fuzzies from what I saw in Lex tonight from the D.

You put far too much emphasis on this bye week. Florida’s problems aren’t going to be magically solved in 2 weeks and if they are then Urban Meyer is like the greatest college football coach of all time!
UGA can’t control whether or not Florida has a bye week. And they can’t focus on where they are in the SEC standings. All they can do is focus on their execution. If they prepare for Florida like they are a regular opponent as opposed to some insurmountable obstacle that they have to overcome, they will win their share of games vs. the Gators. Most of the years that the Dawgs have played the Gators, they were either equal or greater in talent than Florida( 2008 and 2009 being notable exceptions). But they lose because of the mental roadblock that Florida has over them. UGA has had little trouble beating Auburn and LSU the past few years. If you can beat these teams, you can beat Florida! But it won’t happen with gimmicks and uniforms it happens with execution( don’t let the 2007 endzone dance or Blackout games fool anyone. The Dawgs won both of those games by out executing Florida and Auburn). Trust me, if the Dawgs got out there and execute, they can beat Florida bye week or not.

What is this 1975? You only threw 12 times? You have AJ Green and Aaron Murray and you only throw 12 times….?!?!?!?! That may work against Kentucky, but it sure as hell isn’t going to work against UF or Auburn. The conservatism in this offense kills me. BOBO NEEDS TO GO!!!

The only thing that bothered me tonight was the unwillingness to go for more points with the ball at the 35, three timeouts left, and a little over a minute remaining in the first half.
That was about as conservative as it gets. In the end, it didn’t matter a bit.

Yes, I only threw 12 times because I am an idiot…..I don’t know anything except to give it to a tailback up the middle. Yes, I realize that I have AJ Green, but I want to be like Vince the Prince and take it back to 1970s offensive college football. Play action is the only thing I know….

Pass defense is horrible.. KY moved the ball at will against us. 3rd down conversions are simply too easy against us. Rambo is constantly out of postion and looks lost. Hopefully Ogletree can come along quick to give us some better coverage and tackling ability at the safety postion. Not too sure about this 3-4 scheme, looks like it doesnt transition well to the college game.

Now then, if we had a 3-game win streak against say….Florida….Auburn….Tech….then yeah, hand me a glass-full.

Grantham got burned on the blitzes for big plays all night long, that QB is really smart and Kentucky’s offense can score and put up yards. Thought it was dumb to blitz on them, they were having a hard time when Georgia dropped 7 or 8 into pass coverage with a lead. With a big lead, you don’t need to be blitzing, especially when you get burned. Cuff can’t handle 1 on 1 coverage against anybody, so you can’t blitz like that.
Fix that, and the defense holds them under 20 the rest of the year.

What happened to “Finish the Drill?” One major weakness a mid-level program like Georgia has is a coaching staff who doesn’t understand what Steve Spurrier does. You play 60 minutes and you don’t let up until the horn sounds. Why? Because you have a team that ISN’T as good as people think. UGA needs to develop a consistent attack, and that means play the game the same against Kentucky as you would against Florida or Auburn. That is how a team develops. Not by running around and laying down late in the game. Not by running in obvious passing situations. Bobo and Richt pulled back, and so did the defense. Kentucky was neck and neck with SC and Auburn. That was not the case tonight. UGA should have played a lot harder. This effort will come back to haunt them. I still see UGA finishing no better than 6-6. That means a slpit of the last 4 games. And please Mark, DO NOT accept a bowl game if you are 6-6. You do NOT deserve one.

Now back to Cuff, how bad is this DB? Awful is too kind a word, and Rambo where the heck is he on the pass? Pushing Cuff on one play, stumbling over him on the next. I really hope Smith is back this week, and we need to start Ogletree. ANY team can have a field day with our weak side defensive backs and Auburn will feast on that side. If UF has any offense at all, look to Cuff he is your answer to at least 28pts per game.

I love the bile spewing from Tech fans on this ‘dawg’ site. Especially from “UGA BLOWS”! We may finish with a worse overall record, but consider if UGA played in the ACC? And when we beat you in Athens this year, to improve our dominance over you, year after year…will back up everyone’s impression of the ACC. It would be another embarrassing loss from a top ACC team to a “lower tier SEC team”! Then again, after losing to Clemson, you can’t even be considered a top ACC team.

MB states “Georgia goes to Jacksonville with a chance to stamp itself as the only real challenger to South Carolina in the SEC East” – yea, only because the SEC East sucks this year – what WEAK teams they are. UGA will get its chance to beat Florida this year – only because Florida totally sux – as does TN, KY, and Vandy. But yet, the ever cocky UGA fans think “We are back” only because they beat-up teams that are less than minimally impressive. The ONLY teams that UGA has played that may be much good is SC and Ark. So, go ahead and BARK or WOLF or what ever it is that UGA fans like to do – but still, you haven’t beat ANYBODY of any substance. Just look how TN, KY, and Vandy look in their national statistics – about the bottom of the Nation is most categories.

I love bein a DAWG, but dang we make some dumb remarks on here.
Kentucky was down 28-10 at the half last week and won. S.C. lost cuz they did not have Lattimore for the end of the game (injury). We continued to score on the ground and that is a good thing.
Really, I would rather have Washaun rush for 150 than Aaron pass for 300 any day, cuz it almost gaurantees that we won.
Not only that, we have Sturdivant and Gates now starting on the O-Line. That unit needs to bond, and ain’t nothin’ better than a drive blocking party to bring 300 pounders together. We played intelligently and that’s why we won.
Why try to get into a pissin contest with a dynamic offense, when we can keep the ball away and burn clock?

Kentucky should not be a test….but they have better coaching now and ours is the same. Good win but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Turnovers mean we don’t have to open up the playbook. Beat UF like we have beaten the last few teams and I wonder why can’t we beat Auburn. Beat Florida and I think we beat Auburn too. We always beat them both when it doesn’t matter…to us.

This week is going to be very interesting. UGA has won against 3 teams in three weeks all with losing records in the SEC, while Florida has lost three straight to teams in the top 25.
The Gators have internal issues and a week off to find their MOJO. Georgia got beat up pretty good tonight physically at times, and without the ability to substitute early did not do Georgia any favors. While the Gators were at home (maybe not too drunk) to pay attention to the UK/Georgia game.
The Gators quarterback issue has not been resolved, their running game is lacking a physical bruiser of a back, they must rely on the return of Chris Rainey if he is allowed to play along with the speed of Jeff Demps to make plays on the outer perimeter. Brantley has to throw the ball with confidence and the wildcat play with Burton has to make a few plays.
UGA will give up some big plays, just as they did tonight, but the real question is how many and how often do they give up these plays. UF has a very strong defense and if Murray can not stretch the field the fast linebacker will walk up to the line and force UGA into 3rd and Long all night.
There are alot more questions than answers on both side, we do not expect another Auburn/LSU but we do expect some big plays, trick plays, fake plays, and of course a boat load of penalties on both sides of the ball. UF is young and undisciplined, UGA is just undisciplined.
Have fun you UGA and Florida fans talking trash all week. See ya Saturday at 3:38 for kickoff.

The key to us beating UF this week is a mental thing. Looking at how the dawgs have played even with their lousy weakside secondary of Cuff and Rambo? There are no other apparent weaknesses from the last 3 games. One has to like the Dawgs chances in Jacksonville.
But can we get over the mental thing? UF just seems to have year after year great fortune and we do not. The challenge this week is not the x’s and o’s, but the psychology of a clear mind.

This should be a great week. All the trash talk, all the bragging, all the questions.
UGA has won three teams with losing records in the SEC. UF has lost three in a row against three ranked teams. UGA got beat on physically by a Kentucky team. UF had an off week to find some answers.
UGA has done a good job of making a run in the SEC East, while UF has fallen back to the rest of the SEC. But the 3 game playoff is still on. The real player still in control is USC. UGA will still need some help and who knows if they will or will not get it.
UGA has a good young quarterback, a O-Line who at one time was the strongest unit on the Dawg squad. UGA has had some suspensions, had some fumble issues, had some major holes. Playing 3 inferior teams has allowed UGA to experiment, and find a few answers. UF has lost three games and in all three flaws were exposed. While in others they were a bounce away from a win. But the football is shaped differently to get those odd bounces.
UGA played a hard nose Kentucky team, and took a physical beating compared to what UF had with an off weak. It would have gone a long way if UGA had been able to substitute more freely tonight, but they were only able to minimally substitute. While UF sat(probably in an off campus bar) and nursed some wounds from the first 8 weeks of the season.
UGA will have 6 days to develop a game plan, UF will have 13 days to develop a game plan. UGA is on a winning streak, UF is on a losing streak. So common thinking would be if you are winning you want to keep playing, and if you are losing you need a break. Well both teams will get their wish.
UGA has a strong running game with some power(not much, but some). UF has zero power running game. UF gets back Chris Rainey, UGA gets back Caleb King. UF gets some guys well, UGA will have a training room full of nicks and sprains.
UF has a very good defense, UGA has a below average defense. UGA has proven they can win on the road, UF has won on the road, but that was before the losing streak and against a poor Tennessee team who was still in the game going into the 4th quarter.
UF has a quarterback who was originally thought to be a top tier SEC quarterback, but those predictions have not been very accurate. UGA has a freshman(redshirt) who many thought could be a liabilty, he has held his own.
UF has a defense that for the most part has been pretty good, UGA has a defense who is hot and cold and really needs the opposition to turn the ball over on unforced errors. UF has been turning the ball over and that may be a problem for The Gators.
The biggest unknown is the IDLE week by UF, did they regroup, and if they did will they come out with a completely new package that may take a half for UGA to make adjustments to? Does UGA have anything left in its bag of tricks( it will be Halloween weekend)?
This should be a great week with all the smack talk, and name calling.
LSU falls to Auburn, but LSU gave Ole Miss a better idea how to slow Auburn( maybe a little) and can Auburn keep it up for 5 weeks in a row?
Alabama gets a week off to prepare for a poor offense LSU, but good defense LSU.
USC slips by Vandy on the road, and now has to keep their heads in the SEC East race.
Gonna be fun guys…

Have to say that the turnovers helped spark us tonight – we are usually the one’s that shoot ourselves in the foot. That being said, Florida has always been a good team and if we don’t change our mentality against them, we may lose this game. Celebrate the victory tonight but we must change our mindset heading into Jacksonville. We have to, I mean HAVE TO go into this game with the mentality that we are the better team thus producing a fighting chance to leave with a victory.

I hope some of you fair weather LOYAL fans are perhaps a little ashamed of yourselves for knocking the Bulldogs earlier and not taking stock of the circumstances of the team. New QB, new defensive scheme and all you can do is knock the coach and the team. This is a rebuilding year and just give the team a year to get into the flow, pick up a few big boys to bang on the front three, and they will be just fine. As for you idiots that enter this blog, just to make idiotic and childish remarks about UGA, go find a blog that might really need your comments. Giving up yards to a Ken. team that that was either first or second in most meaningful offensive categories is not a real big deal. It of course would be nice to have a shutdown defense but it will come. The defensive honcho will get them where they want to be in time. This team is a complete reversal from the first four games simply because they are getting into the scheme of the defense and the offense has more experience now. They can and should beat Florida, Iowa state and Georgia Tech. And if they can take advantage of the poor Auburn Defense, they might be able to outscore them as well. LSU,s defense showed the “Bend, not break”, mentality and had they had a better offense, would have beaten Auburn yesterday..

Florida has a great Defense; Kentucky has a sorry Defense.
44-31 that’s great.
We needed that. Florida down there waiting on us to show up and us 2-7.
4-4 with no win over any good team.
Colorado LOST AGAIN. We have that BAD LOSS, horrible LOSS in addition.
Kentucky’s Scoring Defense is ranked # 98 in the country.
Florida’s Scoring Defense is ranked # 26.
Georgia’s Scoring Defense is ranked # 30.
Georgia’s Total Offense is # 62.
Florida’s Total Offense is even worse at # 89.
Since he has already played 3 plays this season, that we see Mack Brown.
Aaron Murray had a solid yeoman’s effort game for us last night.
Washaun Ealey put it in the end zone 5 times in 1 game.
He had 2 touchdowns total in the previous 7 games this season.
We sat on a lead again and as good as Kentucky’s passing game is, they really handed us the game with all their turnovers and sacks in the passing game. This really was the key to the game last night that our Defense is far superior to Kentucky’s Defense.
That will not be the case in JAX.
Our Offense, on paper, against these very poor Defenses we’ve beat this season is better than Florida’s. In the meantime, Florida has played better opponents than we have played.
Alabama and LSU are 2 teams we will not even play, for example.
After us, Florida plays Vandie then South Carolina at the Swamp.

I think most everyone knew that we would be slow to start this year with a new quarterback and defensive scheme. I feel the Dawgs are like a steamroller this year starting slow and gaining monemtum with each game. Grantham’s defense is definitely tackling better and forcing turnovers. Those guys are really going after the ball. Offensively we are getting comfortable with Murray and gelling as a unit. Blocking is much better on the line and in the backfield. Last night we were able to win using our running game but A.J. and Durham are still there waiting for next week. Going into a bye week losing 2 at home does not do a lot of good for the Fl. psyche as negative thoughts will permeate their minds during the time off. Looking forward to next week in Jax.

Hope you are right, Mark. KY moved the ball very well on our D last night. And Meyer has 2 weeks to prepare. But our offense took advantage of the short field in the first half, our game plan in the second half (run, dummy) was sound, and UF’s offense has an identity crisis because the QB Meyer wanted this year wears an Auburn jersey courtesy of his fondness for lap tops. Can’t argue that momentum is a factor, though, and we have it. If Houston and the boys can keep the pressure on Brantley next week then there is no reason this team cannot beat UF.
GO DAWGS!!!
P.S. Hey, bugs, how’d y’all do yesterday?

3 points to consider: 1) Bobo still needs to go at the end of the season. 2) Urban is still Urban and Richt is still Richt. 3) Finally, beating KY does not a season make. Wait and see what happens the remaining games before making reservations to Pasadena or New Orleans. Selah.

GREAT WIN! I don’t think the defense played as good in the second half. The last TD that Kentucky got was totally uncalled for. Kentucky scored enough points to win most games. Lets all just hope we can keep on racking up enough points to come out on top especially against a fresh Fla. team and of course an ever tough Auburn team. “GO DAWGS”!

Love the win last night. Great running game and some nice plays with A.J. Only concern are the plays on defense where we have them backed up and they make the play for a first down. But having said that, it was a great win and that is what counts. To all the naysayers – get a job coaching, make a name for yourself in coaching, and then complain. Life is full of people who are more than willing to be critical about someone else’s performance. Worry about your own and life gets so much better. Will bet most Tennessee fans will admit that is true now – Fullmer was the problem – does not appear so. In fact, old Phillip may have been and may still be, the solution. Go DAWGS!

I know I shouldn’t but I feel sorry for Idaho State. They’re playing like a train wreck. I hope MR and Bobo will let Mason get some playing time in that one. They just don’t seem to see a need to let the backup QB get ANY playing time. We had a much better player in Joe Cox than he was able to show because of this. I still say use the old Bear Bryant tactics. PLAY EM ALL! Thats what they’re there for. “GO DAWGS”

Mark B. – sorry about your cats.
Everyone else – Why does Mark Rick always seem to wait too long to turn on the aggression? This reminds me of 2007 in so many ways. Come out ultra conservative and lackluster paying absolutely as if they are terrified of the other team and lose to SC and Tenn then with your backs agains t he wall and nothing to lose play lights out the rest of the way. It would be nice if this Mark Rick guy could bottle the aggression and b@lls to the wall style and use it from day one instead of only once the season is “lost”

It is funny that anyone critical of Richt and his thugs is considered a Tech fan and ordered to go elsewhere. There was never a question about the talent of this Georgia football team. The question was of character and discipline. Georgia has beaten two very bad teams and run up the score by keeping the starters in. The crimedogs were lucky to get away with a win last night, after three UK fumbles, and would have lost if the game were longer. Contrast Richt’s lack of sportsmanship with Newton’s taking a knee when he could have easily scored another TD against LSU. Not to worry, Richt is not going anywhere. Georgia will continue to underperform when it matters.

My question is why does dogville let tech fans get under their skin? One would conclude that dogville only wants to beat the jackets and rave about beating the acc. The dogs beat an average, at best, Wildcat team to bring their record to 4-4, which is still not impressive. “IF” the dogs beat the Gators, then I think dogville can start bloviating even more. In the meantime, tech fans have nothing to do except slam dogville, which is quite humorous. Let tech fans mouth off. They are harmless and lost on solving other theories.

The QB is not a RS freshman anymore. He has started 8 games. Lay off Bobo. We did not have to pass to overcome the short field position this week. In previous games we had long fields in most every games except vs ARk in the last quarter when we made a comeback. We beat UF with the running game the last time by confusing them then hit them with the pass because they started looking for Moreno to run and threw to Mass. Defense was tired because they were on the field 3/4 of the game. Go dawgs.

Really sick of soo much negative dismantlings of a Win! Can’t stand the fair weather fans ! One week let’s fire Richt! now WooHoo we beat KY. UGA started out rough with a brand new QB that is very young , A brand new DC , A team with no confidence due to so many screw ups and without it’s best player on the team! Richt never would have expected to start the first game this way back in the Spring. And as with any jolt of failure it starts a downward spiral (Just look at FL) Football is Football. I have been a fan for too many years to remember and can not remember watching a perfect game by any team!!!!! We are in a season that has Boisie St. TCU and UTAH and Oregon in the Top of BCS! Point out a dominant team to me and I will show you they got beat! Auburn was never pointed out in the beginning of the season to go unbeaten! Cam N. is a great player. But if UGA can connect on passes and beats them and Alabama beats them at end of season they end up in Capital One bowl or something.
And for the TECH fans on hear well you all show your stupidity in your statements so your not even worth the breath!
UGA will go to JX and play a rejuvinated UF team that will have a new found confidence entering this game. We will have the best chance in years at winning this game! We will have mistakes and the same bad play calling as always but who cares as long as we win! And for all you negative fans out there, If we hold Cam N. to 4 TDs we will beat Auburn too!!!!!! And for GT , That will be another TN game!
Every team has things that are wrong with them, coachs that are not popular in their position, and loses they should have won. No one really knows whats going to happen until the ball is kicked off. If your a fan then be a fan and not a comentator or sports writer! Stay a fan even in bad times! ( I remember going to games with soo many extra tickets I couldnt give them away so we caught them on fire to keep our hands warm ! And I have been to the Sugar bowl to watch us kill a ranked team!) If you can’t be a fan then do all of us a favor and stay at home or give your ticket to someone that is there for the team!

The Dawgs did what they had to do and looked fairly impressive doing it. They ran the ball, they stopped the run, they played sound special teams (except a missed extra point and badly executed onsides kick) and they won the turnover battle (going to be some scruffy Dawgs in Jacksonville next week). That Tech fans is the winning formula.
Meanwhile Coach Fish Fry burnt the hushpuppies and Super Bowl Coach Al Groh missed the bus again. Just shows how hard it is to win without FBS recruits. The little Yeller Feller’s are imploding while the Dawgs are hitting their stride. Sux to be a Gnat don’t it? At least three more losses to come with Miami, VT and Georgia. Ya’ll be lucky to make Shreveport.

Mark B., will you remind us again why Florida virtually always gets a bye week before the Georgia game to rest, recover, and game plan while Georgia almost always plays a game. Then they head down to the Gators’ backyard and routinely get ambushed. It’s like Georgia is handed a .22 and Florida a sawed-off shotgun before each matchup and we’re told “it’s not that big of a deal, the best team will still win.”. That’s a joke, a couple of Georgia’s best teams that won SEC Championships still lost in Jax without a week to recover. What if Shockely had had a week to recover from injury and we weren’t stuck with Joe T. and lost in a close one? What if the two Davids’ SEC Championship team had had a bye, they were clearly better than Grossman’s Gators. If it’s the schools fault I’ll stop sending money and supporting that game, if it’s the SEC’s fault we need to appeal the scheduling, because for a game that’s usually the biggest of the year we put ourselves at a disadvantage every year!

Let’s see what happens in Jacksonville this weekend. UF has been taking elephantine-sized dumps on Dawg Nation’s mid-Autumn joy for years. Until they don’t, I’ll assume they will again.
As average as the Gators are this year, Coach Urban would probably like nothing more than to derail UGA’s apparent resurgence to salvage 2010. The great man has had an extra week to prepare for us, and I won’t sell him short.
And his gut has to be in knots every time he thinks about the one that got away, now plying his skills at Auburn. Especially with the Gators current offensive woes.
A coach doesn’t often have the opportunity to have two players-who-are-like-sons-to-him; especially in consecutive order.
Cam’s got Tim’s knack for showing out after big plays too. Apparently the SEC refs have taken notice and decided en masse, not to take notice. Does that remind anybody of the recent past? Man, if Fate had allowed Cam to continue his matriculation in Mosquito Pit, USA, it woulda been a seamless transition.
Great players both, that’s for sure.

This was a good win for UGA. They created turnovers and took advantage of them. This wasn’t a cheap win. Remember Kentucky beat SC (and SC gave Auburn all they wanted as did Kentucky) last week after being down 28-10 and the Dawgs came out after halftime and went down and scored. That was a statement.

Losing to Fla started well before Richt got there but he sure hasn’t done much to stop it. I agree that the game should be alternated between the Dome and Jacksonville. To heck with the tradition. Let’s start a new one.

JB that’s funny…I agree with you on Brantley..he’s not that good, and he’s fragile. Look for a lot of Trey Burton..BTW UF has the ESPN #1 OB jeff Driscol coming in Jan all 6′4″ 240 pounds of option QB. Like I said get us this year. LeMay is rated much lower than Driscol, but Murray is a stud so look for LeMay to decommit…LSU perhaps.

I would love to able to sit here this morning basking in the Fl sunshine laughing at UGA thinking they can win. I can’t simply put if you do not win this year you may never taste victory again in this game or at least for a long time to come. This is a BAD UF football team, our coaches don’t seem to have a clue as to who or what we are. Maybe Meyer should have stayed retired he is certainly coaching like someone who is. They seem to have that round peg in a square hole mentalilty with Brantley much like they did with Chris Leak, the flavor of the day seems to be T Burton. I ‘ll let you in on a little secret he’s nice energetic etc etc not the best player on the field though, Fl best chance to win is by letting JB do what he does best throw the ball down field, which for whatever reason they seem unwilling to do. So like the rest of Gator Nation I will limp into the Gator Bowl next Saturday hoping to see something different not really expecting anything though, best of luck UGA and welcome to Jacksonville.

We just beat a very good Kentucky team with one of the most potent offenses in the league. However, Kentucky exposed an area of weakness that goes back 4-5 years and that is our Cornerback play. We’ve replaced the lame Prince Miller and Bryan Evans with Vance Cuff, who runs around with his head in the sky and his thumb up his arse. Lakatos is got to start earning his coin and straighten these DB’s out. We’re giving up WAY to many 3rd and long plays this year.

UGA was ill prepared to start the season and with the off the field crap and fLEA markets with articles of clothing and such, they simply were distracted. The O line was not yet jelling …. again. Murray was throttled back by the ultra goofy Bobo in first four games. Yes, the 3-4 d was/is a work in progress and it will be next year before they find the wide bodies on the line like Bama’s Cody was.
There are some very bright spots but UGA on D in the middle is horrific vs. any stout SEC teams. This is a problem that might get exposed badly in the next three games out of four. The corner backs are not yet up to speed with coverages on routes. Still too far off the ball.
NEW AD McGarity will be viewing UGA’s style of play and the resulting effectiveness and level of talent vs Florida and AUburn and even GT ( they are so bad ) to put his final comments on this ugly, ugly and very UNECESSARY season. It really should have been a 9-3 year with an Outback apprearance. Not now ………………toilet bowl it is for UGA.
Richt can salve over the wounds of 1-4 start with wins over Florida and Auburn and GT. To lose two of these will frankly, place him in harm’s way of being canned. It is the way that it is. He knows this to be fair. He is well paid. Amen.
The alumni demand better from a team in a fertile HS recruiting state and with our facilities and our $$$$ Fan base. Money talks and smoke walks.

Another footbal rule of thumb: Go with what works until it stops working. The run with Ealey was working so there really was no need to throw or do anything else. The secondary still worries me. They are prone to letting receivers get behind them and to giving up the deep ball. If we do that against Auburn, Newton will eat us alive..

some of you guys need to learn how to relax and enjoy a win. No football team is perfect especially UGA this year and some of you want to yell and scream and stomp the floor every time something doesnt go exactly as you want….case in point….those of you harping on Bobo this morning. Yeah, Bobo has pissed me off a time or two and all of us worry about his play calling but give the guy some credit when he does a good job. Yesterday he called a good game. UGA was 1-4 a few weeks ago and that was one of the lowest moments as a Dawgs fans in many years…they have turned things around for the time being so how about having some pride in that and enjoy the ride? Watching football is supposed to be fun and it seems like some of you just torture yourselves with it. Your take the good with the bad, alright….Gators are next! Go Dawgs!

Bulldawg fans need to take a deep breath and remember 2005 because I have a feeling it will be a little deja vu. Back then Urban Meyer’s offense was sputtering early in the season and UGA had high hopes of kicking a little Gator tail. Unfortunately, Meyer used the bye week to overhaul his offense and UGA saw a completely new Gator offense- including a fullback.
The Gators have another bye to tweek the offense and show UGA something they haven’t seen before on tape plus Rainey is back. As always, UGA will get Florida’s A game.

Mark,
You’ve glossed over some very revealing statistics. Kentucky had 423 yds of offense and never even had to punt while UGA only had 290 yds of total offense. Take away Kentucky’s gaffe’s and they win the game. In fact you’ll rarely see such lopsided statistics with the more productive team losing. It’s hard to see how anyone could interpret this as a good win.

Is it just me? Now, I did not see the game last night, but UK had over 420 total yards. That’s sound a little alarming to me. How did the defense do overall last night? Should we be alarmed with the game coming up in Jax?
The fact that the gators had a week off makes me very uneasy for this game. Not seeing the game last night drove me crazy. Of course now, being that they won, I can’t watch it next week at all either. Can’t put any voodo on the team when they appear to be turning a corner.
One last question. Do we stand a chance against Auburn?

The pressure is on at UGA now. If the dawgs lose to FL there will be mass suicide. And it just may happen. Why is no one discussing Auburn ? Mentally, this team has already lost to Auburn and is trying to make the season seem significant by wins over FL and Tech. This season went in the dump a month ago.

Other than SC, UGA has played a patsy schedule. Who have they played that is decent ? No one other than SC. We’re all assuming now that FL and Tech are lousy so you play a year with two decent teams and 10 lousy ones. If there was ever a year to win a nat champ it was this one. This schedule is easier than Boise State’s or TCU’s and they are undefeated and deserve to be ranked where 2 and 3.

Where we can read about the really relevant games such as OK vs Missou or Auburn or Wis vs Iowa or
TCU vs Air Force ? Why are we forced to read about two lousy teams from Georgia. Why has AJC now defined its market as that within 25 miles of the Grady curve. Has the internet devoured the entire
national market for an Atlanta based publication ? Do I now have to go ESPN or Facebook to learn about the better college games ?

This should definitely be payback time for the Dawgs. Lets not forget what Coach Meyers did to the Dawgs last year. He retaliated because the Dawgs sent their players on the field the year before beating Florida. Remember? As a result of them being a sore loser the previous year before, as they hammered the Dawgs, he decided to run the numbers up and towards the end of the 4th quarter, they scored again and he called a time out for Florida (when he didn’t have to) just to add insult to the injury. They also would go for two points as well. So I say let return the favor to Meyers. Lets run the numbers up on them. Lets not leave any doubt.
