As Vince Dooley once said: "We've got good depth at dog." (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Two weeks ago we wondered if Georgia would win another game. (I was pretty confident about Vanderbilt and Idaho State, but the way the Bulldogs were fumbling and getting arrested you couldn’t know.) Now we wonder if they can win the SEC Least. (It’s suddenly possible.) And we also wonder if their coach isn’t again the most stable guy in his division.
Mark Richt has gone from losing four in a row, a personal nadir, to beating two division brethren by the aggregate score of 84-14. In the SEC East, where every team has lost at least two league games, this qualifies as a surge.
How uninspiring has this division, once the class of the collegiate game, become? Consider: Should it beat Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday night, there’s a chance Georgia, which not so long ago was 1-4, would go to Jacksonville favored over Florida.
Because the Gators are awful. And South Carolina looks eminently capable of doing the South Carolina thing, meaning build up hopes only to send them crashing. And the other three East teams are a combined 2-8 in conference play. A closer look at the Least;
South Carolina: Even by Poultry standards, the past three weeks have been dizzying. The Gamecocks blew a lead at Auburn, beat No. 1 Alabama by two touchdowns and blew an even bigger lead at Kentucky. Steve Spurrier botched the endgame in Lexington and was summarily demoted from Evil Genius to the New Les Miles. And Marcus Lattimore, the great freshman runner, got hurt against the Wildcats.
Florida: Watching the Gators lose to Mississippi State and erstwhile lieutenant Dan Mullen, it really did seem as if the Urban Crier was about to cry. (Given that the last Florida coach who lost to MSU got fired the next week, Meyer might have had reason.) His famous offense had managed six points against Alabama and now seven versus State. In between he’d managed to get outsmarted by Les Miles. Retirement looks better with every week, wouldn’t you say?
Kentucky: Joker Phillips, the new coach, has a new slogan: Operation Win. This marks an improvement on the old UK mission: Operation Lose In The Most Painful Way Imaginable. And the Joker did just beat Spurrier — would that make the Ol’ Ball Coach the Riddler? — in a game of national significance. But the Wildcats have also accomplished two things that required real effort: They made Florida’s offense look good for one night, and they lost to Ole Miss, which had lost to Jacksonville State.
Vanderbilt: It was believed new coach Robbie Caldwell wouldn’t win an SEC game this season. Hah. He has beaten Ole Miss and might beat Tennessee. He also lost to Georgia by 43 points. It’s still Vandy, I’m afraid.
Tennessee: As ever, the Vols’ schedule eases toward the end. By then, however, they figure to be 2-6 overall and 0-5 in SEC play. And the hiring of Derek Dooley, which went over well enough at the time, has begun to be regarded as another in the series of Mike Hamilton whiffs. (Athletic directors never look good when their choice messes up worse than Les Miles, who has become the most interesting man in the Western Hemisphere.)
And then there’s Richt: Calm, cool — if Georgia’s coach is nothing else, he’s calm and cool — and managing to collect his thoughts. The offense looks good. The defense looks better. After starting 0-3 in the conference, the Bulldogs are on the move.
To win the division, Georgia needs to finish a game ahead of South Carolina, which holds the tiebreaker edge because it beat the Bulldogs. (A three-way tie could reset the tiebreaker.) But the Gamecocks still must play Arkansas in Columbia and Florida in Gainesville; it’s possible they could finish 4-4 in the league.
To get to 5-3, Georgia cannot lose again. It must win at Kentucky, in Jacksonville and at Auburn on Nov. 13. I’m not sure about that last game — Auburn’s pretty stinkin’ good, to borrow a Richt-ism — but neither the Wildcats or the Gators are any better than the Bulldogs. This could still happen, people.

MArk, Auburn is good, but they are a one man team. Auburn’s defense is by far the worst D in the SEC (And possibly the nation), and their offence is Cam Newton and 10 nobodies.
As long as Newton is healthy, AU can beat anyone, but if someone comes up with a scheeme to contain him or if he goes down with an injury, Auburn would be hard pressed to win another game.

So uga loses to miss st, just like fla, and beats up on crap teams tenn and vandy and they are good and Fla is awful. Ok nice logic. 17/20 is what it is. And you aren’t beating auburn.
Plus even if you did win out, you would need SC to lose 2 more times. That’s not going to happen.

I can settle. I can tell you haive never been to a uga football game. Its been a long standing tradition by uga students and fans alike to change the last line of uga’s fight song from “all hail to dear old uga” to ” and to hail with ga. tech”. Been to tons of games heard it with my own two years for 15 plus years now. It’s not called clean old fashioned hate for nothing. Both sides hate each other, both sides like to get under the others skin and both sides are just as guilty as the other. Take the red and black glasses off buddy.

Can you write an SEC column without blasting Meyer? UF isn’t any good this year (painfully obvious). It doesn’t change the fact that he owns Richt and the bulldogs. This blog is very similar to the “Georgia gives Gators warning” nonsense you wrote two years ago. A couple of days later your bulldogs were embarrassed 49 to 10. Of course you didn’t write a follow up. Just know that in two weeks I will be back to say I told you so.

i agree Murphy….get by kentucky will be tough, but if we do the gators will be waiting and i suspect you will see Trey Burton at QB and of course we know Rainey will be back in the lineup…i’m sure his punishment will be lifted by then..i mean he only threatened the life of a young lady…any other coach in this league would not have him on the team…i’m not saying he shouldn’t get a second chance…but as with Zach Mett…you just have to dismiss him and let him continue his career somewhere else…but one man shouldn’t beat us…and its time the dawgs take care of business in jax…but first up is kentucky and that is never easy even when we have very strong teams…go dawgs

The Dawgs can’t think about standings etc….Just need to say focused and disciplined and work each week at getting better…Have seen some improved past 2 weeks….Some of the Dawgs i.e. Rambo and other defensive and offensive guys have started studying more film as Aaron Murray…Believe that if they ALL will continue to commit extra time to film study and learn their assignments very well that they will continue to improve –but it is a must as Kentucky will play well, then Florida, Auburn, Tech down the stretch…they must give themselves the best chance to win by studying extra and working very hard in practice.

Mark, I’m not from Missouri, but I say to the Dawgs, “show me!” I believe the next two weeks are as important to UGA as two games have even been. Lose one or both, and Richt’s career will be shaky, and recruiting will suffer greatly. Win them both, and UGA is back in “prime time” with an enormous game at Auburn.
If I were Richt, I’d get Boss Bailey on the plane to Lexington somehow Saturday!
Because I’ve given Mike Bobo so much hell this season, I must praise him for a good job the past two weeks. He’s mixed up the plays well, and put Murray in the ‘gun a lot, which has led to the big point outbreak. I just hope he lets Murray keep his foot on the accelerator.

Mr. Bradley, for the first time I totally agree with you. UGA is getting better, UF is getting worse and So Car is somewhat unpredictable. At UF, Meyer has seemed to have lost his fire, and the offensive coordinator is succeding at becoming a buffoon. Additionally, I am not aware of any other college or pro team where the “O Coord” coaches the game from the sideline. How can he see the entire field. Additionally, Addazio “O Coord” appears arragant.
Coach Meyer is not the same and the players appear rudderless, but they are not criticizing each other “yet”. Meyer needs to decide whether he wants to be a football coach or pursue another vocation. We Gators are very appreciative of what Meyer has done for us, but neither he, the team, his family or the Gator Nation. deserve this ineptness. Sitting in the Swamp the last 2 weeks was not fun.
Unless things change drastically, the Dawgs will clobber the Gators on 30 Oct.

Too much of a long shot Mark, UGA is playing much better but Kentucky will give UGA all it can handle, giving Florida two weeks to prepare for UGA and I expect them to be playing with their hair on fire, and Auburn, their defense is good enough to hold us to lots of field goals while Newton runs wild over us, remember, we can’t stop teams with running QB’s. I’d be happy with taking two out of three the out of those SEC games and winning our last 3 non conference games….that is if we make a bowl. If UGA is to win out, they’d have to continue to get better week in week out. I’d love them to do it, but logic has to interject some rational thinking.

Florida truly is garbage. I said before the season started that all their showboating and classless play the past two seasons would come back around to them. Karma is a beeyotch. Meyer is an arrogant punk that thought he could mail it in this season and still get the job done. Its amazing to me how his little “leave of absence” never came up in any preseason analysis of this team. As for the players, I suspect they’ll phone it in from here on out as well. The bounces and yellow flags aren’t going their way anymore. They do have their usual convenient off week before the Georgia game, but that can sometimes backfire with a mentally fragile team. More time for them to stew about how unfair life is because nobody is cowering at the sight of the mighty Gators anymore.
Screw the SEC East standings. Screw South Carolina. Screw Kentucky. Screw Auburn. I just want to beat the trailer trash from Gainesville like a damn drum. That would make the season.

Kentucky played their best ball of the year on Saturday, and it won’t duplicate. I know Richt will have them focused for Kentucky and all, but you know everyone is looking towards Florida. The Gators are a crumbling program this year and I hope reality has set in for UF because things are not going to get better. Come on Ted M, do a little research and you’ll see that we have one of the better Ds in the SEC, as far as points allowed, already. Look at what SC’s offense did vs Bama, and what ARK did to Auburn.
Grantham’s bunch has held all of our opponents to fewer points than the top teams have, even with 9 new starters and a whole different scheme. Plus, until the past 2 games, Bobo’s O led the free world in 3-and-outs. I like the way I can actually see adjustments on the fly by Grantham.
Yeah, we lost 4 games, but were in every game, and in 2 of them, The offense scored 6 and 12 points.

HEY. Nice try but I’ve been to games that uga DIDN”T play Tech and heard the “and to hell with Ga. tech ” from the students and fans. Stop making excuses, thats my problem with uga fans on this site. You guys want to bad mouth other fans and other schools for things but you do the same or similar things. I read the bradley and shultz pieces, even if they are about uga, or tech or whomever because I love college football. ANY time a fan of another school says ANYTHING not liked about UGA, uga fans go after him. But yet the roles are reversed all the time and not just uga fans against tech. Point is stop whining, smack talk is part of college football and everybody has a favorite team and everybody has the right to do it. If you don’t like somebody saying TO HELL WITH UGA, OR NOTHING SUCKS LIKE A BIG ORANGE, OR GAYTORS. Shut off your computer, stay at home, and watch the game on your own tv.

my point, earlier, was the fact that Tech fans TRULY expect UGA supporters to fold up, and throw away our “G” gear. They expect us to badmouth the program and burn down the stadium.
When reality sets in, that we LOVE our program today more than ever, they get frustrated. There are the few, and trust me, they are the FEW, who want Richt gone, and want to act like we are doomed. But they are not “real fans”. Tech should know a thing or 2 about “real fans” and fake…… where were you guys before Paul Johnson got lucky as s*** and beat UGA 2 seasons ago?…… think about that for a minute……

Problem #3–Auburn is good this year!! But the home team loses more often than it wins in this series. So the Dawgs have a chance.
My preseason prediction was AU vs UGA for the SECCG. Still possible.

It’s still S Carolina’s to lose. But that’s entirely possible. And you gotta think all that talent in Gainesville is going to come together at some point this season. At least their defense will keep them in most games. This is going to be interesting. Better bring our A game to Kentucky and give the Gators something to think about.

Just focus on KY, people. Hope to play well against the. Cobb is going to be hard to contain.
Can’t see anyone stopping Newton…maybe slow him down. Get a lineman and a linebacker to shadow him and his every move. Their ONLY responsibility is Newton….period. At 6′6″ and 250…he can run like a deer. He’s pretty much unstoppable.
Get the win in KY. Survive and advance. Anyone that states “It’s ONLY KY!” should be banned from making comments on any blog from here on out.

A few years ago Georgia was struggling and Auburn was ranked 5th in the nation. At a high school game on Friday night an Auburn friend promised not to rub it in about how bad they beat us during the following week.
Georgia dismantled Auburn. Anything can happen.
Beating Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday night will require a monumental effort and the Dogs don’t have nearly all of their probelms worked out, but Mark Richt is who Rudyard Kipling had in mind when he wrote, “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you . . .” Mark Richt is a man.

UGA is a completely different team now than in the first four games. AJ is back and now the offense has alot of confidence and any time you have #8 on the field you have a a slugger’s chance of winning games. Defense is playing much better and starting to get the hang of CTG scheme. I really like our chances against UK and UF. Auburn should be the real test of the season but we have historically played them well. I think UGA can run the table and get to the SECC.

Come on Mark, that column from 2 weeks ago was clearly written tongue in cheek, concluding with “if Georgia loses this week, forget I mentioned this”. Not hardly a prediction.
If Mark Richt’s program is now the model of stability in the SEC East because it beat bad Tennessee and Vandy teams in the last 2 weeks and hasn’t had a player arrested in the last week, that doesn’t say a lot for the SEC East. The East is about as bad in football as the SEC West was in basketball last season, and that’s saying something.

The Gators really hosed us by losing to Miss State. If they had won, we would have had a simple path to the East title – (i) win out, and (ii) have Florida beat SC at home – that would have created a three-way tie, with UGA winning the tiebreaker with the best division record. Alas, the Gators refused to help, so now we have to win out and have SC lose two games (Florida and Arkansas?). And I can’t say I look forward to playing a Florida team coming off a bye week following a three-game losing streak.

Go take down the flag on that ugly car of yours, and remove the official lyrics in your fight song, and then the playing field on hate will be level. I am a UGA alum, and come from a very large family of UGA fans/alums, and we truly do not care about Tech except for Thanksgiving weekend. But if you live near Tech, like I unfortunately do, you will see that I cannot wear my UGA hat to a local bar in the middle of the summer without some baseball without some pimply faced nerd saying “To Hell with Georgia” as I walk by.

Larry, you need to put in the mix that they switched Defensive coaches, schemes and QB’s. It takes TIME to get used to things when the bullets start flying for real. Very few teams can pull this off. It seems like the DB’s are starting to react without thinking now, even if the competition is less than stellar. I like what I see and never thought we would be undefeated or world beaters at the beginning of the season. I’m trying not to entertain that thought Mark. This UGA team still has to prove it can win on the road. Dogs have improved, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the little surge they’ve made came to a crashing halt this weekend or in Jville. The return of AJ has certainly resuscitated the offense. The defense looks improved but UT and Vandy are terrible on offense. Awful-fense is a more appropriate description for both teams. UGA can’t lose their edge (mentally). UK will be a much better challenge and gauge of how much the defense has improved, if at all. UK has a very scrappy team and is certainly better than they demonstrated vs. UF. Hartline, Locke, and Cobb could give UGA a lot of problems. And as all UGA fans know, even when UGA is better than UF, Jville is a struggle for UGA.
As pathetic as LSU’s offense is, I still like their chances vs. Auburn and Bama b/c they’re defense and special teams, somehow, compensate for their utterly incompetent offense. LSU’s defense is the best in the SEC and possibly the country. Better than Bama’s. Auburn vs. Bama should be one of the best Iron Bowl’s we’ve seen in a while. SCAR kind of exposed Bama’s defense, but Bama was totally flat and mentally unprepared for that game. Bama’s secondary will also be better by the time they play Auburn.
Miss. State is for real. Especially on Defense. They held Cam Newton and co. to 17 pts. and took Auburn to the wire. Bama better not be sleeping when Dan Mullen comes to town.

Auburn…I can’t decide if they’re as good as their press (Their QB is good, but seems to try to do more than he should…looks like he’s trying to win the Heisman all by himself, sometimes). Kentucky….VERY probable win for the dawgs. All this is to say, considering how the season started; an SEC East crown would be a remarkable turn around! Good luck! See ya in Nov.!

Gator Mike, y’all got the talent, but you’re missing Teabow. He was a leader on the field. It doesn’t look as though Brantley has the leader “stuff,” at least yet.
I think UGA’s Murray has that leadership stuff, not with his words, but he is fearless (like Teabow) in his play. I also think if UF had gotten Murray, they wouldn’t have missed a beat this season with him in Myer’s (and Teabow’s) spread offense.
Hopefully Bobo will continue his two game trend of running spread plays for Murray. He thrives in it.

Mister Rogers, people transfr schools for various reasons all the time, yes, even for some criminal behavior. It’s up to each individual school to decide. If it’s your team and the person does well, all is forgotten. It’s the people that he’s playing against (and beating) that bring up past incidences. The man is playing. Just get ready for him.

I’m not going to hold my breath. I can buy Georgia somehow going into Jordan-Hare and winning a shootout against Auburn. Georgia can’t deal with running quarterbacks, and Cam Newton is going to score a lot of points against the ‘Dawgs. But I just can’t see Spurrier losing twice more, which is what needs to happen for Geortgia to go to the SECCG. Vandy or Tennessee sure as hell aren’t going to beat them. So it’s down to Arkansas and Florida. Both are games that SC can lose, but I don’t see Spurrier allowing it to happen. If Lattimore stays banged up, maybe. But when you figure Georgia has to beat Florida (a tough order for UGA, no matter how bad Florida is… the Gators have a voodoo curse on the ‘Dawgs), Auburn, and, oh yeah, Kentucky this weekend… it’s still far-fetched.

The biggest difference SadDawg is that no one cares about the ACC. We all know its an academic conference first, basketball conference second, and football is around 7th or 8th I think. The SEC is the crown jewel of college football, and other conferences supposedly cannot even come close to them. Thats why it would be rather humorous if a 4-5 loss SEC team won the SEC championship.

I know Coach Richt is against running up the score against a defeated team. But fourth quarter with Mason in as QB and the depth charted 3 & 4s into the game to finish it up did not look as good as it could have been. Maybe their instructions; on the ground, run the clock and just try to make first downs. Murray runs like the wind when needed. I too am afraid that a no-mercy-defender will ring his clock. Mason must play ready to relieve

Murphy, thank you for your observation. I have been to every game this year except for the BAMA Game. Our offense really does stink, and it has been getting progressivly worse each week. Our offensive coordinator “offensive, arrogant and incompetent”. The UK Game was an aberation because UK is not a bad team.
It is hard for me to say this, but I never saww a Zook team look as incompetent as the Gators have against LSU and MS St this year. Sitting in the Swamp over the past 2 weeks and looking at our first half statistics tells the story. UF is not a good team. Currently, we lack leaqdership from the coaches and the seniors. Our collective arrogance and sense of entitlement have finally caught up with us. Perhaps this team will catch fire, but there are absolutely no indicators that it will happen.
This year’s Cocktail Party Game is up for grabs. The team that enters the game totally focused on winning will win this year. It is hard for me to say, but I have not seen any fire in the Gators for the past few weeks.
Good luck to your guys.

Mark wrote: To win the division, Georgia needs to finish a game ahead of South Carolina, which holds the tiebreaker edge because it beat the Bulldogs.
Mark – Look at the tiebreakers. If SC finished 4-4 and one of their losses is to Florida, then assuming that Florida beats Vandy the UGA/Auburn game is irrelevant.
In other words, the outcome of the UGA-Auburn game in deciding who goes to Atlanta can only be important if one of 2 things happens:
A: Florida loses to Vandy
B: South Carolina beats Florida AND loses 2 of 3 to Vandy, Arky and Tenn
Then again, example B does not necessarily make the UGA/Auburn game relevant. UGA could still win a hypothetical 3-way tiebreaker between UGA, SC and either Kentucky, Vandy or Tenn. Then again, UGA could still hypothetically do that if SC only loses 1 more game if that loss is to Vandy or Tenn and the teams all end up 5-3.

Wow, one thing has definitely changed. All of the sudden, all of the fans who were two weeks ago calling for CMR’s head, are suddenly 100% behind him and this team. Must have been different fans ???? Yeah, right.
I don’t think you can tell anything about UGA or GT at the moment. Both schools played lousy opponents the past two weeks, and everyone declares everything okay, and the defenses fixed. I wouldn’t worry too much about either offense, but the defenses still scare me. But I do agree with Yogi Berra, “95% of this game is half mental.” Once the team(s) start believing in themselves, they can start winning. It does help that there aren’t any other great teams out there either.
Auburn could be good, but watching the Ark game was a lot like watching the NBA All-Star game: your turn to score now. UGA/AU game will be the same way. It will be which team commits the most turnovers (and thus doesn’t score on that possession) that loses. They might as well just play the Auburn games like they do overtime. Let each team start on the 20 and try to score. The team that doesn’t score on every possession loses.

I’m just not sure anymore that Richt is the man for the job, as much as I respect him as a person. His success initially was with Donnan’s players, and Van Gorder’s defense won games for us. Not the UF needs motivation to show up to the game, but lets just go ahead and give them there first 3 game losing streak since 1988. Auburn is playing damn good football, but the game that worry’s me the most is still the UF game. Should I lower my standards and be impressed when an defensive coordinator ONLY gives up 30 points?
Florida can’t hang more than 7 points on MSU( at least UGA was able to score a garbage TD on them at the end). LSU slops around vs. UT and McNeese State! Bama beats Ole Miss in a lackluster effort! I don’t give a damn if the Gators have 4 weeks to get ready for UGA(folks make too big of a stink about a bye week anyway). The Gators offense is just not good. Its one thing to have a bad outing the first week, but when it happens again and again and again, its a problem. The Gator play calling is terrible, and Brantley is awful. I’m tired of UGA nutting up in this game. There is no reason for UGA to not be able to beat this Gator team by at least a TD. I’m even OK with a Gator win as long as its competitive. But if UGA gets blown got by the Gators like 41-20, then Richt should be fired. If you can’t beat the Gators in a freakin down year, then your program is pathetic!

UGA appears to be on a roll here:
1) they have their full team for the first time all year.
2) the defense which is already top 20 in the nation in scoring, seems to be getting better and better.
3) the Auburn game is tough, but they have been here before. In 2006, an unranked UGA squad went into Auburn and blew out the top 5 Tigers.
Much like 2006, this year started in turmoil. The loss of AJ Green, a freshman QB, and a new defensive scheme. In 2006, it was the loss of Senior QB Joe T. forcing Freshman Stafford and Cox to all the sudden get into a QB battle during the season.
Richt and his staff got things going that year and never looked back. It looks like the same is happening this year. Sometimes it is good for a program to go through a crisis. The staff appears to have shifted the right gears so far.

The last thing this Georgia team needs is to start thinking beyond the task at hand. Turning this mess around has started and you like to think that you can handle a Kentucky team that’s a little banged up. Then you can look to Florida who’s clearly as beatable as they’ve been in who knows how long…then you’ve got Auburn??? Well, at least we’ve got ‘em where we want ‘em – at Auburn. Let’s hope they’ll need to use the hoses on us at the end of the game….but then that’s thinking beyond Saturday and we don’t get to do that.

Forgot to add that Murray is looking like a seasoned veteran. He reminds me a lot of how well Shockley played in 2005. However, Murray will likely be here for 4 years, instead of one and done.
Auburn’s defense has been very poor this year, especially against the pass. With Murray playing well, AJ Green, and the variety of other weapons on offense, I see no reason why UGA cant expect a great offensive game against Auburn. The question is, what can Grantham’s D do against Newton?
Hopefully, UF will not figure things out in their week off. UK will be a tough test for Grantham. Randall Cobb ate up Willie Martinez. Lets see what Grantham has in store for him.

As a college freshman, the Gators coaches largely used him as a change of pace to the Gators’ more traditional passing quarterback, Chris Leak.[3] Tebow’s contribution to the Gators’ 2006 college football season was as a key back-up who helped the Gators win college football’s national championship game for the first time since 1996.

Tebow’s biggest game in the season came against the LSU Tigers on October 7, where he accounted for all three of the Gators’ touchdowns, passing for two and rushing for another. Tebow had a one-yard run on the goal line for his first score, a one-yard “jump pass” to tight end Tate Casey, in which he jumped in the air and double-pumped his arm before releasing the ball, and a 35-yard play-action pass to wide receiver Louis Murphy.

I glad you can figure out who is real. I am thinking Miss. State is pretty good though they looked like Miss. State against Auburn. Georgia has to play Auburn in Auburn. Next week’s LSU game is the biggest of the year. If LSU beats Auburn and Auburn is looking ahead to the Alabama game, Georgia will pull one of those meanless upsets. My guess is Florida beats Georgia because it is the only thing left for Florida to save a horrible year, Georgia thinks they are past all that by beating the two worst teams in the SEC.

Nobody on here is saying that UGA is awesome this year and is going to a BCS game or whatnot. The point that is being made about the victories over UT and Vandy is that UGA is playing BETTER than we were in Sept. THATS IT!! It does not matter who we are playing against. It is a matter of things like our players being in the right position, making the right reads, creating turnovers, knowing where to be, and things like that….

For 10 years, it looked as if the SEC was the stronger side of the SEC, and that the western schools had it easy. Alabama was down, Auburn was average and LSU was inconsistent. And then there was the MS schools and Arkansas… All the while, TN and FL were winning NCs, the Dawgs were one of the strongest programs in the nation year-in, year-out, and even SC was on the rise. Oh, how things have changed! I think UGA can pull it out, but I’m not sure I want them to. Mixed feelings on losing 4 in a row (especially THOSE games) and still playing for the SEC title. Not sure if it’s because Vandy and TN are that bad, or that we are becoming that good. In any regard, the KY and UF games will be the measure of how much the team has progressed since the beginning of the season. Wish we had the bye before Auburn rather than GT. Auburn will be the toughest test of the season by far.

The next couple of seasons will be very telling for Urban Meyer. This is his second season without Tebow, UF’s version of Herschel Walker and maybe the most dominant quarterback ever. Meyer’s now 13-6, or .684, without Tebow, including the cupcake games.
Thank God Cameron Newton chose Auburn rather than to stay at UF.
The idea of Georgia winning the East at this point seems unreal. I’m not sure I want them to be in contention for the conference title at 5-3, it just doesn’t seem right. But if Georgia closes the conference schedule by beating Kentucky, Florida and Auburn, then we will be as deserving as anyone else in the “least.” Which is to say, not much at all.

Aw c’mon – Georgia can’t beat Florida, and Auburn will beat the snot out of them. All Florida has to do is throw their helmet on the field. Between that and the referees trying to get back at Georgia for running all the players on the field several years ago, Georgia doesn’t have a chance. If Auburn can score 65 points against Arkansas they’ll score 85 against Georgia. But of course, Georgia will beat Tech. Go Dawgs.

Scary Thoughts

From a recent Neal Boortz column in the AJC:
Well, I don’t want to embarrass the subject of our little story by using her real name. We’ll call her Prunella. Our heroine is a senior at the University of Georgia and a columnist for the Red and Black, the independent UGA student newspaper.
At the end of her most recent column, “Think before you shop at Walmart,” you will see this tag: “[Prunella] is a senior from Lawrenceville majoring in magazines and women’s studies.”
With such a double major I’m sure the recruiters are knocking down her door.
“Think before you shop at Walmart?” As a matter of fact I do! My thought process is usually something like, “I think I’ll go shopping at Walmart.”
Prunella disapproves. She says that when she walks into a Walmart she sees “concentrated evil.” Not just evil, mind you — concentrated evil!
Our magazine major’s problems with Walmart seem to stem from the fact that many local retailers find it difficult to compete when Walmart moves into town.
That’s the nature of the free market.
Prunella doesn’t explain how she would remedy the situation. Consumers exercising their free choices apparently don’t sit well with this young lady. She is also upset with Walmart because it is a “large unfeeling corporation with (a) major impact on what we buy, where it’s produced and how much we pay.” Please. Whoever it is out there forcing Prunella to shop at Walmart, knock it off.
Somehow, in her column about the “concentrated evil” that is Walmart, Prunella didn’t address the fact that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. donates just shy of $300 million a year to charities around the country. The company also reportedly pledged $2 billion for a five-year campaign to fight hunger. The evil must be concentrated somewhere other than in charitable giving.
Perhaps, then, this is Prunella’s real problem with Walmart. In her column she expresses displeasure that profit-driven corporations “are firing American workers to cut production costs. They then charge American consumers more money than what it took to produce their products.”
Let’s address both of her points. First: How dare any evil “profit-driven” corporation fire workers to cut production costs! Cutting production costs is nothing less than a blatant attempt to improve the bottom line. Don’t these dastardly businessmen realize that they’re in business to hire people, not to make money? After all, potential investors look to the number of unnecessary employees as a surer sign of corporate health than profit and loss figures. Any good woman’s studies major surely knows that!
Second: Let’s erect some gallows at Sanford Stadium so, at the next Georgia home game, we can hang the next evil businessmen we catch selling a product for more than it cost to produce. Prunella must have sneaked into the back of a UGA business class to learn that her next pair of shoes should be sold for exactly what it cost to make them and place them on the shelves of her favorite store (not Walmart) — and not one penny more.
Seriously, folks. Is this what we get after tens of thousands of dollars are spent to produce a college graduate these days? Did her magazine professor see this column before she submitted it to the Red and Black? Didn’t someone warn her that such public displays of economic brilliance can end up being embarrassing?
And the most troubling question of all: Is she registered to vote?

At what point did you UGA fans become so Delusional? To think that just because you beat two of the nearly worst teams (not just in the SEC) in the nation – you have “turned it around”. How stupid is that? That is what is wrong with UGA and UGA Fans, who have been repeatedly ranked as some of the most OBNOXIOUS fans in football. Yes – you have now won TWO games in a row – but what have you proved? TN and Vandy are ranked near the very bottom of the nation (Div I – 118 teams) in total offense – of which they both are 97 and 102 respectively: and not much better on defense (72 and 81st respectively). When Dawg fans make comments like this idiot: “After HUGE wins over the mighty Vols and Vandy! UGA is a contender! They’ve knocked off the mighty.” It really SHOWS just how far the BullThugs have dropped – when they call TN and Vandy the “Mighty”. I guess that makes Idaho State look like 10ft giants.
Yea – true – you may have won two games in a row – but what have you proved by beating these two losers? As usual, the cockiness of BullThug fans is unfathomable. Sure – you might just beat FL – of course, who are they this year? They have lost 3 in a row – after all Florida is ranked 91st in the country in total offense.

Strange how each year some SEC teams have a pattern for ups and downs.
UGA-Doesnt seem to get in gear till middle of season.
Auburn-Starts off fast and seems to lose momentum past halfway
Florida-looses focus after start and regains past halfway
Carolina-fast starter then falls apart at halfway mark
Bama-starts bland-gains focus midway-finishes strong
LSU-tends to be on a roller coaster all year-but continues to win

Georgia should be quite aware of this Kentucky team, they play hard nosed defense and can move the football. If Georgia turns the ball over, they will certainly get embarrassed. If they run the table, who knows? Auburn can be beaten, but the only way is to contain Newton, which nobody has done yet. Newton should be the front runner for the Heisman by far!!!

Mark the UGA homer hates Urban Meyer and Florida and makes it known in his UgA loving writeup!!! Very professional mark! Did you ever criticize your favorite son, mark richt, for ordering his players onto the field in 2007 to taunt UF after that great 1 yard TD? (hint: no—instead, it was proclaimed to be a great move by the great mark richt and would lead to a new attitude by uga in future games). How did that work? Blowout losses in 2008 and 2009!!! All I;’m saying is there’s a really good chance Georgia wins this thing.
Spurrier:
Simply, he falters at end of seasons at SC. Spurrier won’t have a 2 week bye to get ready for any opponent. Lattimore’s out for 2 weeks with a severe ankle issue. Ark is SC’s worst match-up fear: worst SEC pass defense (SC) against best SEC pass offense (Ark). Spurrier has never won a game against Urban Meyer and he never will.
Meyer:
The guy’s in a free fall. Should have quit, like he wanted to back in December, he saw all this coming when he faked the heart attack with his “swallowing/choking issue”. Meyer just has no way to generate offensive points Without his safety blankets like Tebow & Harvin, Florida’s not been very good. Without A-Level asst coaches like Strong & Mullen, Meyer’s TRUE coaching skills are being revealed. Florida will lose to Appalachian St folks.

I’m not even thinking winning anything but the next game. I know they were weak teams but a blowout against anybody looks great right now and the losses, except Colorado aren’t looking too bad. Auburns defense is going to be their downfall and the Gators are having a rebuilding year as I expected so we may wind up with a better year than expected after those FOUR LOSSES.

Pass this test and then they start to believe. If that happens who knows where it can go. If it doesn’t happen, well then idaho state is it.

South Caorlina is the best team in the East, maybe the country.
Did you guys see the way SC beat Alabama?
Garcia’s incredible, Lattimore and Jeffries, man, they’re tough.
Spurrier’s 2nd in SEC in wins, gave himself the gameball after beating Alabama, he KNOWS he’s good.
SC’s so good, they don’t even need to practice to win out.
Gonna be an easy ride for these guys.
