Will Michael Vick start vs. the Falcons? Nobody’s saying no

At some point Matt Ryan and Michael Vick are going to start against one another. But it didn’t happen last December — Ryan had turf toe and Vick was Donovan McNabb’s backup — and it might not happen Sunday.

Then again, it might.

Vick got hurt two Sundays ago against the Redskins. He didn’t play Sunday night against the 49ers. When his injury (rib cartilage) was diagnosed, it was pretty much assumed he’d miss two games. But the Eagles haven’t yet ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Falcons, and he’s officially listed as “questionable.” In NFL parlance, “questionable” means “flip a coin.”

Did you see that? That was me flipping a figurative coin. And it came up …

Heads. Meaning, “He’s going to play.”

This is a guess, nothing more. Vick didn’t practice Wednesday. But he threw for the first time since getting dinged, reports Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, and McLane quoted Vick as saying he’s “got a shot’ at playing Sunday.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Vick had “made big strides.” He also said: “If a guy can’t practice throughout the week, then I probably wouldn’t [start him].”

Note the key word? “Probably.”

It’s Thursday. Game’s Sunday at 1 p.m. I’m thinking Vick will be ready by then, if not before. I’m also thinking I hope he is. Because that’s a game I’d like to see.

Reid will play him only if they are behind and need a “spark”.

Would make for a more exciting and interesting game. Hope Vick is healthy enough.

Andy Reid has certainly left the door open to start Michael Vick. However, I would imagine he also has the season as a whole in mind. If Vick’s not ready to go, better to give him another week than to risk further injury in this one game.

I guess we’ll see on Sunday.

I would like to see Vick play so that Falcons defense can crush him and knock him out of the game. Yeah, I said it!

Yeah, go a head and do that. Jason Peters is out. If he runs at all he’s going to get crushed. If he stays in the pocket he’s going to get crushed. The Eagles OL is swiss cheese.

Imagine Babs hitting those hurt ribs….It would be silly to let Vick play this week. He’s almost guarenteed to get hurt worse….much like Turner running on that high ankle sprain too early last season.

I don’t think the Falcons defense is as good against a mobile QB as evidenced by Seneca Wallace’s success last week but then…he was healthy had a healthy left pro bowl tackle…and still couldn’t last a half.

I see Reid putting Vick in to try and score on us again, just like last year. This time, however, I think we make him pay. What could be better for us in terms of his throwing accuracy? Maybe Beerman warmup hit prior to a Decoud pick six.

I would love to see Vick play just so he can knock that overrated Falcon’s QB on his behind. But at the same time I want Vick to be 100% healthy. And for those that continue to grieve over the dogs, why are you spending your time on message boards and watching football, shouldn’t you be out there rescuing dogs or something.

Falcons 2010 check list:
1.) Avenge the 2008 wild card loss to the Arizona Cardinals. ✓
2.) Make a statement by beating the Saints on their own field. ✓
3.) Beat Vick and the Eagles and pay back for that humiliating loss last year in Atlanta. (pending)
4.) Beat Keith Brooking and the Cowboys in the playoffs denying them a chance to play in the Super Bowl in their own stadium. (Looking doubtful due to Dallas’ seemingly inability to get to the playoffs.)
5.) Win the division, gain homefield advantage, advance to the Super Bowl and become Super Bowl Champions. (Looking better every day!)
Go Falcons!

Michael Sick has caused enough sorrow and aggravation for long suffering Falcon fans. The corrupt legal system gave thug slap on wrist. What else is new? NFL commissioner kissed his a$$. Nothing new there either. If the lying sack of shet plays the Falcons should go after those injured ribs. Break em then serve um to Fred Flintstone. I personally would cheer a season ending injury. Career stopper would be nice. Filth like this thug belong on street on in kennelsa as pimps not performing in front of impressionable young people. Falcons need to send clear message. If not then to Hell with them too. STENDEK

Vick is NOT going to play, but Reid is waffling so the Falcons have to prepare for both QBs. Smart way to keep us off guard and something I’m sure any decent coach would do.

Keep in mind that it is to the Eagles advantage to force the Falcons to have to prepare for Mike Vick, which is probably different than preparing for any other QB. The Eagles are going to keep you wondering as long as possible so that the Falcons have to waste as much practice and meeting time as possible.

While I would love to see him play just as a fan, I think the Falcons have a much better shot at winning if Kolb starts.

I sure hope Vick does play Sunday. The Falcons need to go ahead and avenge that embarrassing loss they suffered against Philly just ten short months ago. Otherwise, the Vick fans might have another two, three or more years to bring up that one bad game as an irrational basis for arguing that the Birds should have retained the services of their controversial hero.

Go Falcons!!! Go Matt Ryan!!! You the man!!!

Ribs are tricky. One good lick and Vick will be out. I don’t think we’ll see Vick unless Kolb is sucking wind.

I’d like to see the match up personally, but I don’t think it will happen this year.

If you’ve ever had injured ribs, you know they take their sweet time healing. I seriously doubt that we’ll see Vick, but if we do, all it’s gonna take is one good hit and he’ll be back on the sidelines. Which is good if you’re a Falcon fan…I’d rather take my chances with Kolb. Vick might have lost a step, but he’s way ahead of where he was last year.

The Falcon’s need to kick some Eagleass….payback for last year’s embarassment.

Some of you folks are just haters Vick was one of us at one time, we rooted for him every Sunday and celebrated his success. It ended badly but let’s not hate the man, he was young and yes he made mistakes, have you been perfect in your life, especially with all that money and fame at such a young age. I think maybe I would have blown it worse than he did, He is a great talent and he seems to be trying to make up for his mistakes.
I believe everyone deserves a chance to start with a clean slate, I would love to see him play us and I hope we kick their butt, however I will not wish him or anyone else bad because of mistakes they have made,i wish them success in finding the change they seek and future success in life.
If he had not exhibited the desire to get his life in order I would feel differently, but he has and I am in his corner except when he plays the Falcons, and yes I am a white man not that it makes a difference!

The Eagles are just playing games, there is no chance Vick is going to play. If Vick hasn’t been able to return to practice on even a limited basis, there is no way he is going to play, especially since this is an injury that is easily reaggravated.

It doesn’t matter who’s under center–the author of last year’s slap in the face will be the fat guy with the moustache and the ugly green jacket on the sidelines. Andy Reid used Vick intentionally/strategically against us in our own house not to show his support to his #3(at the time) QB or to give the folks in the stands a thrill (those still wearing that #7 jersey) but for the sole purpose of embarrassing the Falcons’ organization, causing a distraction that would help them win the game. It worked. This time, we have to be the smart ones. This time we’ve got to put the crowd out of the game and put an asswhoopin’ on Reid that will make him think twice about pulling some such psychological BS on us ever again….

Mark,
I too would LOVE to see this matchup. I have a lot of love for the birds and despite others opinions, I still have some for ol’ MV7 too. We’re all human. People are quick to villainize the guy yet there are poeple out here doing much worse things. (look at the govt.lol) If he does play, it’ll be interesting to see how he does with the injury and a swiss cheese O-line that’s starting a LT that has never started a game….Abraham has to be licking his chops. If its Kolb….may as well call the game makeup b/c the birds will have it all covered! :)

People, get over Vick and his screw up with the dogs….. he did his time…..

There are other ‘professional’ atheletes out there tha have had terrible discretions with women that were only punished by a few week suspension. Not enough ‘evidence’ to prosecute, but did the deed regardless……

As terrible as it may sound – and you do not want either…….

Would you rather your dog was ‘killed’ by Vick OR your daughter was molested by one of the other atheletes that did not even go to jail for their indiscretion…

Brett is the latest, it seems, to do something out of line that would not be accepted in a normal job.
These guys are all paid a fortune for a GAME, yet think they are GODS and can get away with anything they wish….

Vick paid his debt. Many others have not. Let him move on for now.
IF he does something else by all means nail him. He is trying to get his life in order – let him alone.

Then we have Brett, who has said he is hurting and would not mind a few weeks off….
IS that a signal to the NFL commissioner to give him a two week suspension while he recovers??
Needs to be a more severe punishment, or this type of stuff is just going to keep happening.

Time to give more than a slap-on-the-wrist suspension to some of these guys….
Vick got his, big-time…. let him alone……

Go after some of the others….. Just think your daughter was the one accosted and use your high-and-mighty attitude to go after them….
